Yalla is a small to-go window in the heart of Capitol Hill serving delicious middle eastern food. The menu is extensive and rotating with dips, wraps, and sandwiches. I ordered my food at the window and it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. I had a hard time picking out what I wanted, but all 3 things I ordered were delicious. Wrap/sandwich portions are a little small by themselves for a meal, so you probably want a side or something as well. falafel sandwich: sandwich with generous amounts of falafel, tahini sauce, cucumber, tomatoes, and lots of veggies. kefta: bread wrap stuffed with grilled beef, came with a side of tahini to dip. A cute, hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving up delicious Mediterranean eats -- it was recommended by a friend and great for takeout! My friends and I grabbed their Mezze trio to take over to a picnic in the park. All of their dips were really tasty, though I'd have to say that the hot pepper hummus was hands-down my favorite one. Each dip comes with a dipping bread -- it's definitely different from the usual pita and feels a little more like a tortilla but is generally tasty. There's lots of other things on the menu that I have my eye on and this experience has convinced me to come back again soon! read more

The Zaatar saj sandwich is super authentic and very delicious, I would know I grew up in Lebanon eating them. It's a great vegan meal.

Keeping at 5 stars because their food is excellent. But A little disappointed. They updated their menu on the ordering site, missing hummus and my normal zaatar and cheese. I was trying to remember what I Ordered and went for one of the items that looked in the photo exactly like what I typically get. I asked if I could replace with my normal item and told them the website to order was missing the info and had changed. Basically was told no. That "the eggplant is pretty Good too" and wasn't even comped the hummus I ordered onsite knowing that I don't like eggplant which Is what I ended up accidentally ordering because their site is A mess. Can't say enough good things about this place. Simple and unassuming walk-up window service. The menu was mostly wraps. I got the awarma & beef wrap and my boyfriend got sujuk & cheese wrap. We went to Cal Anderson to eat them and man, the wraps were a 10/10. The sausage wrap reminded me a lot of chorizo, both were super tasty and had a bunch of food so it was worth the price and then some. So based on a friend's tip, we decided to go to Yalla - a bad move on our part. When the store first opened, hummus was $6 and saj wraps were $6 - $7 depending on what you got. You also got a side of made-to-order saj bread. When we went, everything on the menu increased by at least $1 and we got store-bought pita instead of the made-to-order saj bread we were so looking forward to. Not to mention, the owner was really pushy about ordering sides and made it seem like they were free. I paid $1.50 to add labneh to my saj wrap, which made it $10.50!!! Such a rip-off. Clearly, quality is no longer a priority here as it was perhaps when it first opened. Money is the priority. Yalla is an exemplary case of cultural appropriation. Do yourself a favor and buy hummus literally ANYWHERE because this is the most expensive hummus you'll ever buy. read more

Literally my favorite go-to spot that serves up very Authentic very very tasty Middle Eastern Food. I have eaten most of the meat filled wraps with the Lahme Khuruf with the pomegranate and the ground lamb (heaven) and the Jibneh being my favorites. Sometimes the wraps aren't tight enough, so if you are eating and walking, make sure it's wrapped well before you get to steppin'. The hummus and baba ghanouj should be illegal, they're so good. The bread that they're wrapped in is made delicately by the soft hands of some women, I've just sat there on their bench and mesmerized by the technique and the love put in. It runs me a little over $20 for a wrap and one of their lethal (because they are addictingly good) mezze pints, but it's worth it. The wraps are generous in size too, so I can usually make it work for 1.5 meals. One of these days I have to purchase one of the cookbooks they have displayed behind the counter, and if they offer any classes, I want in! read more

3.5 stars This place is easy to miss if you're not paying close attention! Tucked away in a small corner in Capitol Hill, I was immediately drawn to the food offerings as I scrolled through the photos. The heritage behind Arabic food is one that is rooted in so many cultural traditions, and I love that Yalla offers an authentic experience. We went with their Kishk and Lahme Khuruf, with a side of their baba ghanouj. Portions are pretty good, especially the wraps. I actually loved the Kishk more than the Lahme surprisingly. The fermented bulgur and yogurt had a wonderful texture and flavor with the cucumber, tomato, and greens. It normally comes with olives, but we got it without since we aren't the biggest fans. At $9, the value was certainly there. :) The Lahme Khuruf had a nice flavor, but the texture was off due to the lamb meat being ground meat. We were surprised given the $12 price tag. Had it been mentioned more specifically, we wouldn't have gotten it. In addition, the pomegranate molasses didn't really shine through and the wrap was falling apart. Baba ghanouj was delicious! Just wish they gave more than one piece of bread to sop it all up. We're accustomed to having pita bread with this, but the saj bread worked well. :) Since we came on the weekend near the Thanksgiving holiday, the crowds were light and Covid protocols were followed well. Staff had pleasant attitudes, and the wait time is minimal. They do offer delivery in addition to takeout. While we weren't there biggest fans of the Lahme Khuruf, the Kishk and baba ghanouj are a worthwhile trip, and we will be back for that! read more

I have also tried awameh which is a middle eastern sweets, it was good. The lady which I believe is the owner is soo nice and gives you recommendations of what to order. TL;DR: Delicious, but BYOF (Bring Your Own Foil). Yalla is a gem among gems even in a zone where many great food options are nearby. It's hard to resist -- Taylor's deep appreciation for this food culture and gift for flavor are evident in every menu item I've ever tried. And, it's right in the middle of Capitol Hill, a quick and easy stop for to-go food. Which brings me to my only substantial compliant: Despite being a takeout window, the food at Yalla is never quite wrapped appropriately for takeout. I'm surprised they are still refusing to use foil-backed paper or another packaging option that allows a person to actually eat the food before half of it ends up in your lap. The juiciness of the Saj wraps is a huge selling point flavor-wise, but it's harder to appreciate when the oils have soaked through the wrapping paper, the paper bag, and the napkins within seconds of leaving the window. I hope they take care of this issue soon, but in the meantime I recommend bringing your own to-go packaging and/or being prepared to wear some grease for the rest of the day/night. The food is easily five stars -- as long as you can get it to your mouth before it all falls apart! read more

I came here on a weekday with one my girlfriends, and I'm so glad I finally did. First off, Yalla is just a walk up window, and you have to eat your food elsewhere, which they designated Montana Bar as the spot you can eat right next door. We found Montana Bar a little grungy, but there really isn't any other spot in the area to eat your food. Besides the lack of a place to eat, the food was bomb!!! This is a two woman operation, and they are really killing at it! We got the Saj Bread wrap with the lamb and pine nuts. The flavor was awesome, and the wrap as a whole was a great size. My girlfriend and I ended up splitting the wrap, but I could of honestly eaten the whole thing. We got it with a side of lebneh that was seriously so good! We also got the Baba ghanoj to share, and that was amazing!!! The bread it was served with was delicious thin bread that really soaked up all the delicious baba ghanoj, but I could of honestly eaten it alone with a spoon. Overall, awesome food and people! This place has high-quality, VERY filling food. Perfect along a stretch of many bars. I've been a fan of Yalla since they opened, but recently I went keto so that cut down my options drastically. I asked if they do lettuce wraps, but the nice person working told me they have a "box" style chicken instead - which is an off-menu item. This box was huge. So much food. It tasted amazing.
