Mediterranean Mix is a no-nonsense eatery in an old building in Pioneer Square. There are a few tables inside and outside for a quick bite. The menu has the typical wraps and salads. Like many others, we were getting a quick bite before a show (or a game) at Lumen Field. We ordered at the counter. Service is equally no-nonsense. We cleared our own table when done. Yesterday was my first time here and it was a nice experience. My friend comes here a lot and recommend this place so we went. It seems to be a popular spot for Mediterranean food. The inside was neat and clean. There was one cook working and even though it was a little busy we got our food pretty fast. I got the Falafel Plate - it's vegan. They have a decent enough vegetarian options, it's enough to experience the main known dishes. The Falafel Plate was huge! The portions was so much that I had to take a lot home. In my opinion, the place is alright (not great) keeping the prices and taste of food in mind. The hummus sandwich had a lot of hummus and not much of anything else. I did not like the taste of falafel that was served in the veggie platter, moreover, it was not fresh(hot) and crispy. If you're wandering around Pioneer Square and are looking for someplace that will have a little something for everyone in your family, then look no further than Med. Mix on 1st Ave. I volunteer down in Pioneer Square and this has become my favorite go-to spot. They are a small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves a mix of food from Mediterranean to Burgers to Pizza. Now, this might sound like they are just a hodge-podge and may not be that great at any one thing, but the truth is, I've never had a bad experience here. My go-to are either the Chicken Shawarma or Chicken Rice. If you get the Shawarma, do yourself a favor and grab some fries as well. When you pick up your order, make sure you also ask for a side of their house-made hot sauce, which is a fresh habanero salsa that goes excellent on your Shawarma, or mix it with some ketchup to have with your fries. read more

Finally decided what we all wanted: 1 - Cheese Burger $8.99 (nothing on it just cheese & ketchup with fries) 1 - Falafel Sandwich $8.99 (said yes when he asked for fries) 1 - Gyro Sandwich $8.99 (said yes when he asked for fries) The guy (he may have been Polynesian) said our total was $51... we asked for a breakdown and he refused to give one. He was very rude about it and was doing his calculations from his phone, trying to over charge us. We paid him and he gave a receipt with the wrong charge, it was for $51. We asking for him to give us an a still receipt to see what he charged us for. The receipt he gave us was for $51, but didn't show what we bought.. He refused to give us a receipt for the actual amount we had paid for. (Really sketch because every restaurant should give you a receipt especially when you're asking for one) We decoded whatever on the receipt and drop it because we were trying to enjoy ourselves. It was less than 10-15 min and our food was already done. (Also, he was the only one there. He rung us up AND made our food) The guy said our food was done, grabbed it.. Gramps took a bite of the burger and the meat was not even cooked. Are you serious!? I already knew something was fishy when the guy was trying to overcharge us. My boyfriend and I didn't even take a bite of ours because we were scared he did the same to us since we made sure we didn't get over charged. Showed the guy and he didn't even acknowledge the situation. He wasn't even going to give our money back until my boyfriend stepped and said something. He made sure we got our money back because this is ridiculous! Not sure what happened here, but this was real fucked. Never coming here again, shitty service. Though yelp says this place closes at 2pm, it was open near 9pm on first Thursday, which was great since we were so hungry. Not sure if the hours are wrong on here or they just opened later for that day. Ryan had the falafel... ok. Not to be deterred, I went back for a gyro (since that's what everyone seems to yelp about). Bad move - worst thing I've ever had... horrible flavor, terrible meat quality. I rarely not finish my food (since I hate wasting - and there are the starving African children, blah blah blah), but yeah, I didn't finish this thing - it's that awful. It's not a sit down restaurant so what can you expect?! It's a ghetto hole in the wall place great for late night eats. I understand it gets super packed after 2am, but what do you expect when you have to deal with drunk people... They are very quick (which can come off rude I guess) but they just want to get the order out as soon as possible. Anyways, the chicken & rice was ze BOMBBBBBB.. & the gyro sandwich was delicious! Cheap and good period! Don't expect excellent "service" from here. If that's what you want, go to a sit down restaurant where you should expect and get good service. Solid pick for sure, definitely good place to hit for those late night drunchies. Aside from that though, I'm iffy on returning. Atmosphere: first I'd like to point out there was a Seattle dog stand right outside so you might as well walk there before the club closes and you can decide what you're feeling then. I got there around 1am on a Saturday night and were served immediately and were able to also grab a seat with no problem. Gyro plate: got the lamb, a bit over salted and cut too small. You can decide between rice and fries, get the rice, otherwise the portion of fries isn't that big. The naan though is amazing. Shwarma sandwich: pretty damn good. A bit too much sauce for me personally though. Chicken and lamb both taste good. Other: The soda machine is labeled water only on everything but there are cups for water which is nice. When we got to the front of a long line, the guy at the register talked to us like we were dumbasses although we are familiar with Mediterranean food. We asked him a simple question of if we could make the chicken shawarma a plate and he became very short with us. I could only imagine the way they would treat someone completely forgiven to this type of food, which is really a complete shame. We ordered the chicken shawarma and also the shish tawook sandwich. The chicken was tasty but needed wayyyyyy more sauce. It was pretty dry and should have been offered with extra sauce or toppings on the side, but this place didn't offer that. The only saving grace for the shish tawook sandwich was that the hummus made it somewhat more moist, but still needed be optional sauce IMO. The only saving grace of this place is reasonable prices, late hours, and the pita bread was undeniably good. I feel I should update my review since I've stopped back more than once for a gyro sandwich to-go with no complaints as I scarfed it down. Although I've rated it a 4-star, I'd say I honest feel it's a 3.5. If I'm being honest, this place is not a nice restaurant, but they serve delicious gyros. And I've actually gotten used to the fluffier pita, which now seems like it's not greasy or fried, but light and yummy. I honestly wish this place delivered, because if I never had to step inside again, I wouldn't be disappointed. That probably sounds harsher than I mean it. The service is more efficient than overly friendly, but kind and honest. I never get anything here but the gyro sandwich and I probably won't venture. But if I did, it would be for the falafel sandwich. I heard it's pretty damn good. Back to the gyro--it's got a decent amount of delicious gyro meat, tomatoes, lettuce, tzatziki sauce--which has actually tasted better the last few times I've order vs the first time I tried it. And, like I mentioned before, the pita is more of the fluffy, thick type vs the tradition pita I'm used to. But it works well with this sandwich and holds up to the fillings. Pretty decent for a quick lunch stop. You get some authentic and some not-so-authentic options to choose from. Plenty of food for under $10. Gyros, plated lunches, even pizza and fries. My meal today was the Falafel plate. ($7.70). Plenty of food but felt it was lacking a bit. 3 pieces of falafel, hummus, pita, baba, garbanzo beans, salad... The supposed greek salad was literally nothing more than some shredded iceburg, raw tomatoes, and onion. Didn't taste any dressing. They forgot my tahini sauce on the side. Another hidden gem out here in Pioneer Square, we have walked past this place several times & missed noticing it, until today. Dropped there for a quick lunch & ended up loving the place. Wonderfully toasted & fluffy pita engulfing the beautifully cooked meat, with the right bit of seasoning. It was delicious from the first bite till it lasted.
