I ordered their namesake, the Gyro Saj Shawarma, and it was quite bad. The meat was just reheated and not off a spit and was too salty, whereas the wrap was flavorless. I don't recommend eating here unless you're prepared to be disappointed. The restaurant is also dingy and looks like it is not cleaned regularly, despite that I was there in the middle of a weekday afternoon when it wasn't busy. I suspect the high reviews are due to the fact that this is close to a huge hospital system with lots of traffic and visitors daily. Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine is one of my favorites, and this was quite inedible. I had also just finished a fast, so am generally more lenient as well. read more

My friend and I have gotten takeout here a few times and it's been consistent each time. She typically opts for the gyro falafel platter - Falafel Served with Rice, Greek Salad, Hummus, Tahini & Pita Bread. whereas my go to is the sandwich - Falafel with Hummus, Tahini, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Onions & wrapped in Warm Pita Bread. The pita is indeed warm and the vegetables indeed taste fresh. We usually grab it to go and I'm usually hesitant to do take out, but the food is exactly as advertised at a decent enough price. There aren't a whole lot of remarkable food places in the area, which sort of pushes you to Capitol Hill blocks away, but Gyro Saj has come through a few times without that hassle. read more

Came to Seattle for Sakuracon 2026 and came to Gyro Saj not once but TWICE during my stay. Absolutely loved the taste and freshness of what we were given. Enough space for sitting and eating. It was easy to order and clear. The food was mixed. I had the chicken plate. First the garlic sauce was pretty good. Nice flavor and consistency. I eat a lot of Mediterranean food so my standards are high. The pita was very good. They heated it and it was thicker and came out steaming. What didn't work for me was the chicken and salad. It was just somewhat blah. The chicken to me didn't stand out - the spices were there and it wasn't really fatty (I don't like a lot of fat on my chicken) but the flavor felt off. Overall I would say 3 of 5. I likely wouldn't seek it out again while here but if everyone was going here I'd eat. I had Gyro Saj bookmarked because of an earlier compelling post from fellow Elite friend, Elizabeth. I set my gps from work in Woodinville for the best route to try Gyro Saj on Seattle's First Hill (12/14/22) via 522W to I-405S to 520W to I-5S and took the Denny/Stewart exit via Boren to Madison, easy peasy. However with the ongoing road construction, finding street parking was not. So I opted to park in an adjacent parking garage and luckily Gyro Saj was right at the corner of Madison and Summit. It was bustling because of lunch rush and broadcasting the second half of a World Cup match on the flat screen. Convenient location to major hospitals and for students from Seattle University and O'Dea High School. I placed an order for a Classic Gyro and baklava. Nice that water or hot tea was also available while dining onsite. My order was prepped with such efficiency, I was able to savor a delicious lunch prior to an eye appointment at the Nordstrom Tower. Very fortuitous and convenient! Their Classic Gyro was prepared with such care - succulent portions of gyro meat, fresh crisp lettuce and tomatoes. I had to pick out the red onions though to prevent onion breath. Deft addition of yogurt sauce was the perfect touch. All of this was wrapped nicely in a soft warmed pita. It was so generously packed that using a fork was useful. The baklava was also a large triangle with tender layers of honey, nuts, and phyllo. It was spot on, fresh and not cloyingly sweet. After we ordered at the cashier, the staff brought it to our table. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Gyro plate was one of the popular dishes and the meat was tender and lightly seasoned. The pita was soft and warm. I really loved the crinkle cut fries and saffrons rice with spices. For $15, it's a pretty good size portion. The pita bread was warm and soft. The hummus was a little salty for my taste but it's not too bad. The meat was tender and the seasoning was just right. The rice was a little unexpected for me. It had a lot of spices in it that it was competing with the flavors of the meat. I wasn't expecting the rice to be so strong so I'm not sure if I like it or not. The salad was good. Definitely would need to come back to try their other food as they do have some items that I typically don't see at other Mediterranean places. I went here today to try out the Gyro Saj Schwarma and some Greek fries. I also got a mango lassi drink since it's quite a heavy meal and I needed something to wash it down with. The mouthwatering schwarma was quite delicious and you really cannot go wrong with the price point it's at! Great value and fantastic doner. You'll easily get your Mediterranean fix here! There was some nice crunch provided with the vegetables and wrap, which adds to the entire experience. Now I've never had greek fries before, but the Greek fries here were amazing! Generous heapings of garlic sauce and feta cheese topped with some herbs and some spicy powder atop some seasoned fries equals a good time! It's simply a taste of heaven itself! At the end of it all, I was left struggling to finish it as it's quite a lot of food. I was in a food coma for a long time today after the meal but it was definitely worth it! I went for a walk around the neighborhood, as I live in Interbay and saw the sign for burgers on Dravus St. and walked on Thorndyke a couple blocks before coming to a cluster of small locally owned businesses. This place is cute and local and reminds me of when I go on weekend trips to small towns in Washington.
