Came to Seattle for Sakuracon 2026 and came to Gyro Saj not once but TWICE during my stay. Absolutely loved the taste and freshness of what we were given. Service was fast and although the place is small with only seats for maybe 8 people we loved coming back. We ordered the chicken shawarma, two classic gyros and some fries. I will definitely make this place a favorite whenever i'm back in the area.
Gyro Saj is sort of lumped in with a few other takeout spots, chain or otherwise on the Madison St. stretch of First Hill. My friend and I have gotten takeout here a few times and it's been consistent each time. She typically opts for the gyro falafel platter - Falafel Served with Rice, Greek Salad, Hummus, Tahini & Pita Bread. whereas my go to is the sandwich - Falafel with Hummus, Tahini, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Onions & wrapped in Warm Pita Bread. The pita is indeed warm and the vegetables indeed taste fresh. We usually grab it to go and I'm usually hesitant to do take out, but the food is exactly as advertised at a decent enough price. There aren't a whole lot of remarkable food places in the area, which sort of pushes you to Capitol Hill blocks away, but Gyro Saj has come through a few times without that hassle.
The lamb shawarma was sooooo good! Falafel and gyro were great too but the shawarma was . I'd definitely come back here again.
After a long travel day and walking Pike Street we ordered take out from Gyro Saj. I had the falafel wrap which was amazing! Very flavorful and tender and lots of hummus and crunchy veggies. The staff were helpful and friendly. Very affordable as well. I am marking it for next time I'm in town.
Fast casual place, bright and vibrant interior and they even had flower centerpieces on their tables. Service was quick, grab and go type place. We got the Chicken Saj Shawarma and the Gyro Fries which was a generous portion. The Chicken Saj Shawarma was average, nothing special. The signage outside said they have the best Gyro Fries, it was also just average. The meats were kind of dry. I wouldn't go out of my way to try this place but if I'm hungry and pass by, I'd stop here again.

Everything tasted so good and was cooked perfectly. Plenty of seating all around . I think I would stick to the other spot personally since this places' prices are just a smidge higher.
I've become addicted to their Veggie Saj! It's this amazing wrap with falafel and cauliflower. It comes with this amazing sauce too. It's a big portion so usually I eat half for lunch and half for dinner. Very consistent quality and smells amazing.
I got takeout from here for lunch and was pretty impressed! I got the falafel plate which was falafel, rice, a small salad, hummus, and pita. In the middle of lunch hours they were fresh cooking the falafel which I'd never seen before, they're usually pre made and kept warm. Everything was delicious and tasted very fresh; the lettuce was crisp, the hummus was tasty, the pita was warm. I think $16+ for a casual lunch is a little much but everything was great quality so can't complain!
Got this for takeout and i think it wasn't the optimal state of fresh by the time we ate it. The chicken shawarma was a little dry and the greek fries were a bit soggy. But definitely a hefty amount of food and it was still pretty good- just could've been better
This is one of my favorites in First Hill for a quick bite! The serving size is amazing for the price and it's a well rounded meal! I love getting the lamb and beef platter, but enjoy their gyros as well! They also have some interesting sodas like this Vimto raspberry/black currant sparkling fruit drink!
Great spot for a quick lunch. Lots of folks ordered online and picked up to go while we were there. There is a full vegan section with a variety of options. Some of the items on the menu are huge!!! Ask ahead of time if you're only looking for a small bite to get some direction. All the toppings are right in front so you can see what you're getting before you order. Food was really good and a great value for the quantity.
The servers/chefs were friendly and the restaurant itself was fairly clean. I got a Schwarma plate, Choclava and Balava. The portions were sizable. In terms of flavor, the hummus, Greek salad, and rice were nice and flavorful. I wished the flavoring of the meat had more Mediterranean spices. The meat tasted and had a consistency similar to a herbed flavor sausage. Overall a solid experience. I would recommend getting a schwarma wrap as opposed to a plate as it's cheaper and you'd get all the flavors in one bite.

The Gyro Shawarma Plate was flavorful and the preparation was very quick. You can taste the spices used in the rice and dip. Portion wise, it wasn't small but it wasn't generous either, for the rice and the meat pieces; around 70% filling overall. The shop was clean, and the staff polite. I probably won't go back for the same kind of meal because of the average to lower end value to cost. It's a place to try, and be able to have a point of reference to other similar joints. read more

Falafel plate & Baklava is the way to go!! I'm currently on a job at the Swedish Cancer institute and is walking distance from main entrance. Delicious and very fulfilling! Their prices are great too for Seattle. Will be back!! Melissa from GA. read more

Got the chicken shawarma plate. Rating this compared to other shawarma it's gotta be a 3/5 mid. Anything lower would be leaving you on the toilet. The chicken was dry compared to other shawarma I've had. Hummus was avg. rice had good seasoning. The pita was mid. The tzatziki sauce was bad, can't even call it tzatziki since didn't have cucumbers. read more

I had Gyro Saj bookmarked because of an earlier compelling post from fellow Elite friend, Elizabeth. I set my gps from work in Woodinville for the best route to try Gyro Saj on Seattle's First Hill (12/14/22) via 522W to I-405S to 520W to I-5S and took the Denny/Stewart exit via Boren to Madison, easy peasy. However with the ongoing road construction, finding street parking was not. So I opted to park in an adjacent parking garage and luckily Gyro Saj was right at the corner of Madison and Summit. It was bustling because of lunch rush and broadcasting the second half of a World Cup match on the flat screen. Convenient location to major hospitals and for students from Seattle University and O'Dea High School. I placed an order for a Classic Gyro and baklava. Nice that water or hot tea was also available while dining onsite. My order was prepped with such efficiency, I was able to savor a delicious lunch prior to an eye appointment at the Nordstrom Tower. Very fortuitous and convenient! Their Classic Gyro was prepared with such care - succulent portions of gyro meat, fresh crisp lettuce and tomatoes. I had to pick out the red onions though to prevent onion breath. Deft addition of yogurt sauce was the perfect touch. All of this was wrapped nicely in a soft warmed pita. It was so generously packed that using a fork was useful. The baklava was also a large triangle with tender layers of honey, nuts, and phyllo. It was spot on, fresh and not cloyingly sweet. Terrific find! Definitely recommended! read more

We stopped by for a quick bite when we were in the neighborhood. It's next to Swedish Cancer institute in First Hill so you can find street parking or park in adjacent parking garage for $2 in 30 minutes. The ambiance was fast causal yet warm and inviting. Many seatings were available and the staff were friendly and efficient. We ordered chicken shawarma wraps, a Gyro plate, French fries, baklava and 2 bottles of drinks. After we ordered at the cashier, the staff brought it to our table. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Gyro plate was one of the popular dishes and the meat was tender and lightly seasoned. The pita was soft and warm. I really loved the crinkle cut fries and saffrons rice with spices. We really enjoyed every bite. After finishing, we put away the trays by the door. Great experience and we will be back! read more

A solid 4 star with potential for an increase in the future. This place is located right next to Swedish hospital in first hill so it's convenient for those working nearby. It's clean and spacious. I do like that they have all the ingredients visible so you can see what you're getting. I got the gyro shawarma plate which came with meat, rice, salad, hummus and pita bread. For $15, it's a pretty good size portion. The pita bread was warm and soft. The hummus was a little salty for my taste but it's not too bad. The meat was tender and the seasoning was just right. The rice was a little unexpected for me. It had a lot of spices in it that it was competing with the flavors of the meat. I wasn't expecting the rice to be so strong so I'm not sure if I like it or not. The salad was good. Definitely would need to come back to try their other food as they do have some items that I typically don't see at other Mediterranean places. The people here is really nice and service is pretty fast. I do wish they get more business in the future read more

Friends and I stopped by here for lunch after our classes and it did not disappoint! Service was friendly and quick. All ingredients tasted really fresh, I'd highly recommend the greek fries and the lamb and beef gyro plate! Portions were huge and I had plenty of leftovers. I went here today to try out the Gyro Saj Schwarma and some Greek fries. I also got a mango lassi drink since it's quite a heavy meal and I needed something to wash it down with. The mouthwatering schwarma was quite delicious and you really cannot go wrong with the price point it's at! Great value and fantastic doner. You'll easily get your Mediterranean fix here! There was some nice crunch provided with the vegetables and wrap, which adds to the entire experience. Now I've never had greek fries before, but the Greek fries here were amazing! Generous heapings of garlic sauce and feta cheese topped with some herbs and some spicy powder atop some seasoned fries equals a good time! It's simply a taste of heaven itself! At the end of it all, I was left struggling to finish it as it's quite a lot of food. I was in a food coma for a long time today after the meal but it was definitely worth it! There's street parking too, so come by and try a taste of the Mediterranean! I'm still shrugging off my food coma as I type this haha. read more

Had the gyro plate + garlic sauce delivered via UberEats. Given the great reviews for this place, I found it a little underwhelming and the sauce a little too watery, though the meat did have decent flavor. Maybe it would've been better dine-in? Wasn't the best Mediterranean takeout I've had in Seattle but would be willing to give it another shot. read more

Convenient spot to grab lunch if you're in the first hill area! They're really quick and had my food within 10 minutes of me ordering. Prices are super reasonable too. My company loves to order from here and I understand why. I had the gyro plate. The gyro meat was perfectly cooked and had a nice char on the outside, making it crispy and flavorful. The accompanying vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the rice was fluffy and fragrant. The portion size was generous, making it a great value for the price. Got the gyro plate and choclava for lunch and enjoyed it. Service was very friendly, the place is extremely clean, and the food is good. The rice was cooked perfectly, not too soft and had a nice chew to it. It also had a spice mixture that was truly unique, earthy, and warming. You'll need to try it for yourself. The garlic sauce is great and went well on everything, and the hummus tastes freshly made. Even the side salad was good and helped cut the richness of the meal. They also warm the pita perfectly to accompany your meal. The choclava is rolled baklava with some chocolate drizzled on top. It's a good idea and is filled with nuts, but I would like it more if it was sweetened with a little honey. I'll be back to try the chicken. Recommend checking it out. read more

If you're in search of a Mediterranean one-stop lunch spot, Gyro Saj is definitely worth a visit. The casual atmosphere, quick and friendly service, and delicious and flavorful food will keep you coming back for more. Upon arriving at the counter, the young chefs greeted me with earnest, helpful smiles and recommended the chicken shawarma and Greek fries as some of their top menu items. When I requested hot sauce and a bag, they exclaimed "Definitely!" and assisted me as much as possible. The food was just as impressive as the service. The chicken was flavorful and aromatic, the fries were fresh and warm, and the garlic sauce was irresistible. The platter was well-rounded, featuring a refreshing salad, creamy hummus, and warm pita bread. The portions were generous, and I had enough leftovers for an entire extra meal. On my next visit, I definitely want to try the lamb gyro, cut fresh off the spit. With fresh, delicious lunch served in large portions at a great price, accompanied by friendly service and kind smiles, I can't help but sing Gyro Saj's praises.
