Big fan of Cafe Turko. A welcoming space with some friendly staff that operates part way between a Turkish coffee shop and a restaurant. Starting with the coffee - delicious. Turkish coffee is a short robust coffee, similar to espresso. Served with dark brown sugar and a Turkish delight candy, it is superb. The food here is awesome. From Turkish pizza and flatbreads to some delicately flavored kebabs. All served by some of the nicest people. I've been in a couple of times and there's always members of the local Turkish community eating here. Says great things about any ethnic restaurant when folks from that ethnicity choose to eat there. The decor of this atmosphere is really colorful and bright but IMHO, the food is unmemorable and not very flavorful. I am a little puzzled by the reviews. There are better local Turkish restaurants than this one. I ordered the Manti dumplings, sour cherry and lime fizz drink, the cauliflower appetizer, fries with feta cheese and the milky baklava. The drink was good but pricey for $7. The cauliflower appetizer was just mediocre. Again I had hoped the sauce would be flavorful but it was bland over soft vegetables. The manti dumplings lacked flavor. I had to ask for more sauces (tomato and yogurt sauce) just to eat it so that was rather disappointing. The milky baklava was different and I did like that it wasn't sweet and the creaminess added more of a balance to typical crusty baklava. The service was decent and the waitress did a good job checking up on us which others have stated they haven't had good service on their visits. The verdict? Cafe Turko wasn't inedible but it wasn't good either so I don't plan on returning again. read more

I really wanted to try this place out last spring. Was biking along the burke gilman. I had a dog, and asked if they had outdoor seating as listed. There was a gentleman who was already sitting outside. We stood out front for about 5 minutes without being approached by the worker, who had passed us several times. Finally upon flagging him down we asked if we would be able to sit outside, he apologized and said no and that the person sitting outside was a former employee and that he made an exception for him. As we tried to look for another restaurant nearby online standing outside, we hear him bragging to the customer of how he turned us away and just said to us he was a former employee to get us to leave. It was a completely empty restaurant, its unfortunate we didn't have the opportunity to try it. But with that kind of service, I'd prefer not to support this business. read more

Love cafe turko! Been dining here religiously for years now. We always start off with their mixed hummus platter - spinach, sweet potato, beet and regular hummus served with warm pita bread. For mains we got the grandfather beyti and ali nazik with lamb (melts in your mouth lamb) and both the dishes were flavorful and tasty. We also ordered their special turkish coffee in chocolate orange flavor and it did not disappoint. Service was great and as you can see in photos the ambience immediately transports you to the streets of turkey with all those colors and local decor. I love the ambiance, the food, the service, and location. It is a nice oasis removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It also doesn't feel tucked away in a far out suburb. This balance of being able to find parking under the troll bridge, taking an after dinner stroll around Freemont is a real plus. Please do not go here, the staff is extremely rude, the food is tasteless and I have tried to give them multiple chances but I regret it every time. We came to Cafe Turko on Sunday as a party of 2 at 4:30 PM for a late lunch. Their decor is cheerful and festive-they have beautiful mosaic lamps strung all over their ceiling. I absolutely loved this and would have ordered another if we had stayed for longer. We shared amongst ourselves a few things: Turkish Finger Borek-these are cheese filled rolls that are savory and good. They come with a yoghurt sauce to dip them in. Muhammara-we enjoyed this peppery paste with some bread. We wanted to spread this on everything. We tried some of this on the crust of our pide. Karisik Pide-this was tasty! The crust was perfect crisp and chewy, and the toppings balanced each other well. I had never had Sucuk (Turkish sausage) before. This is a pide made for cumin lovers. There really was no wrong choices we could have made with our food picks though. We were looking at the other tables for inspiration of what we wanted to pick, and that only made it harder to narrow it down to these three! If we weren't so full, we would have bought some dessert as well. They do have some Turkish groceries and goods for sale, so we purchased some Green Apple Tea to enjoy at home from them. Right away, I noticed the gorgeous interior decor: hanging mosaic lanterns, decorative plates, and vibrant tapestries adorning the walls. Our server arrived quickly and I enjoyed the following items: * Rose lemonade - not too sweet and the perfect amount of tartness. * Green Green Manti - vegetarian dumplings. The size of the dumplings were smaller than I anticipated, but I believe that's how they're traditionally made. The meat was tender and juicy, the tea was fragrant and warming--just perfect (though I did miss the sugar cubes I love so much). The atmosphere is cozy and truly transports you to the East. The staff is wonderful--warm, welcoming, and impressively multilingual! They speak English, Russian, Armenian, and most likely Turkish as well, which added such a personal touch to the experience. Used to be my FAVORITE place in all of Seattle. Now it's mediocre for a couple reasons. 1.) The food is good, there's no denying that, but the prices are absolutely outrageous now. Like delusional outrageous. Just last year everything was 30% cheaper at Cafe Turko, so this a more recent thing. Chicken entrees are around $28, for context. This is probably what tanked their long-standing perfect Yelp score. Seems like they wanted to hop on the popular Seattle bandwagon of fleecing tech people. 2.) The portion sizes are VERY small. For everything. If you're going to price gouge, at least be generous with portions, especially for inexpensive proteins like chicken! Unbelievable. You only get a little bit of pita bread with hummus, then they charge you for extra (and it takes 15 minutes to get). 3.) Service is atrocious! We've always had this problem here, so this is nothing new. I see wait staff talking to each other in the back instead of re-filling drinks, breads, or checking up on guests. We had to wait 20 minutes for someone to bring us the check. If you're going to charge high end steakhouse prices, the service better be on point! Ambiance is probably the only other positive here in 2025. read more

Tl;dr: I ordered Café Turko's vegan dumplings and received Trader Joe's non-vegan spinach tortellini. I dined at Café Turko with my family on the afternoon of Saturday, July 12. I ordered "Green Green Mantı", a vegan dish of dumplings topped with chickpeas and tahini dressing. When my dish arrived, I needed only one bite to know I'd been served meat-filled mantı. I alerted the server of the error, who kindly comped my party the dish and promised to bring me my vegan mantı in 7-8 minutes. About 15 minutes later, my replacement dish arrived. This time I hardly needed to taste the "dumplings" to confirm that I again hadn't been served vegan mantı. Instead, I'd been served Trader Joe's spinach tortellini. I would know--I practically lived on TJ's spinach tortellini my senior year of college. I also know that these tortellini contain three types of cheese and that their dressing was yogurt-based rather than tahini-based as stated on the menu. Furthermore, I know the kitchen staff and the server were all in on this sleight of hand: There's no mistaking the heirloom-textured, deep-green dumplings of "Green Green Mantı" with the industrially smooth, white and pale green spinach tortellini from Trader Joe's. It's disturbing that Café Turko's vegan dishes aren't reliably vegan. It's disappointing that Café Turko's dumplings are sometimes Trader Joe's tortellini. But most of all, it's embarrassing that Café Turko chose dishonesty over all its other options to resolve what probably began as an honest mistake. If the server had told me the kitchen needed extra time to prepare my vegan mantı, I would've gladly given them the time they needed and taken advantage of the chance to try another appetizer to tide me over. If the server had told me that the kitchen simply didn't have the ingredients to make my vegan mantı, I would've happily ordered and probably enjoyed another dish. Instead, Café Turko took a gamble on my not being a TJ's shopper who knows tahini from yogurt. Amateur move. read more
