Every single dish was packed with unique flavor that I haven't experienced before. The homemade pistachio ice cream was rich yet not too sweet. Perfect way to end the meal. I should have checked the reviews! Let's start with the main complaint: the place is WAY overpriced! $141 steak, no sides, just plain as is and even pre-sliced to make it feel like more. When you get to this price point, ours just common courtesy to give your patrons a heads up on the price. We didn't expect this and our came as a shock! Second, the water they serve was horrible, taste of chlorine was unbearable. Invest in a filter! The rest of the food was just ok, and like others mention, the portions are small. Lastly, the service was awkward, we were not rushed like others, but the waiter literally watched us through the whole visit, it was so unnerving! I heard amazing things about Hamdi and when I was able to secure a reservation, I was elated. When you enter the restaurant space, you truly feel you have been transported. The focal point of the restaurant is their open kitchen with its wood oven and grill. If you are a smaller party highly recommended trying to get seated in the semi-circle table facing the kitchen, truly amazing. The staff was so friendly and attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff were so kind and made it truly a special birthday. It was our first time and our waiter really helped us order the right dishes as well as the right amount of food. For drinks, we ordered the seasonal cocktail which was light and refreshing and a glass of Turkish wine which had lovely notes of tart cherries. For food, we ordered the Havuc, Kereviz, Tavuk Pirzola, Pide, and The Kebap. Everything was so delicious and full of flavor. Such amazing combinations of textures that I have never tasted before. My favorites were the Havuc and the Kebap. Something I loved was that all the dishes had an earthy tone to them whether that came from the nuts or the wood fire. For dessert, we ordered the Sutlac. Similar to a rice pudding but had a rich vanilla taste along with their toasted nuts. Perfect way to end our meal. Few things before heading to Hamdi. Street parking is limited around the restaurant so I recommend giving yourself time to find parking. The restaurant is also quite small and intimate. For larger parties, they do have a separate dining space outside to accommodate. Can't say enough amazing things about Hamdi. We had been looking forward to dining here for quite some time and chose it for a special occasion--our anniversary--so we arrived excited and expecting a memorable evening. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed. The atmosphere was energetic, but it was also very loud, with music and crowd noise making it difficult to hear our waiter explain the menu or make recommendations. We had to ask him to repeat himself a few times. Service seemed very busy throughout the evening. I mentioned that I would order my drink a little later, but no one came back to check in, so I eventually ordered through another staff member. It then took around 10 minutes to arrive, by which point I had already finished my food. The Cabernet was also served warmer than expected, which wasn't ideal, especially while seated near the grill. Some of the smaller shared plates were enjoyable, but the biggest disappointment was the dry-aged ribeye steak, which had been recommended to us. It arrived after the rest of the food had already been finished, and the texture was very tough--difficult to cut and chew. The flavor was also not what we expected from a ribeye, particularly at the $160 price point. Another surprise was the automatic 20% service charge added to the bill. We hadn't noticed it beforehand, as it was listed in a small print at the bottom of the menu and wasn't something we had seen mentioned on the website. Overall, we truly wanted to love this place, especially since we chose it to celebrate our anniversary. This is hands-down the best meal in Seattle right now. There -- I said it. If you're lucky enough you'll score a seat at the chef's table, which is quite literally dinner and a show. With the open kitchen, the blazing fire, and the team hard at work, you get not only incredible food but a peek into what goes into making the magic. On a recent Friday, I made a reservation to celebrate a special occasion with my +1. We were promptly seated and greeted (the owners remembered us!) and sipped on our proseccco while we perused the menu. From there, our server walked us through the dishes; they change seasonally, so some items were new, others I'd had before, and yet even others are modified to showcase the flavors of the season. This weekend we went straight down the vegetarian menu, ordering almost all the appetizers. Everything was truly wonderful, but the standouts remain the kereviz (rich smoked yogurt, celery root, Turkish figs, pine nuts, and crispy quinoa). For me, this is a flavor and texture mind meld and remains my favorite dish on the menu. But we were also surprised by a new addition: the patates salatsi, a "salad" of chickpeas, sweet potato, Turkish cheese, fennel seeds, and puffed rice. There's a slight crisp on what's sprinkled on top, making this such an unexpected runaway hit. (Trust me: just order this.) We also decided to get the pide, which has been updated with seasonal veggies and nettle puree. I love this dish every time I go. Though stuffed, we had seen a neighboring table order the Turkish tiramisu, which a server sprinkled with grated salt from a Filipino salt block. Did I mention this is dinner and a show? One of the best restaurants in Seattle! First the food: there was four of us so we shared quite a few amazing dishes. The Kereviz was amazing, I could have eaten the whole bowl myself but I had to share. The Chi Kufta was a perfectly spicy bite that was a flavor explosion. The Pide was so comforting and warm. The kebab was one of the best, if not the best kebab I've ever had - and I've had a lot of kebabs over the years. So juicy and flavorful. The steak was so flavorful and perfectly executed. It was bar none the best steak I have ever had. The rice pudding desert was such and amazing combination of sweet and salty and beautiful textures. Even if you think you don't like rice puddings, you have to try it. You will change your mind. Finally, the cocktails were so unique and delicious. Perfectly balanced. Don't miss out on them. Went to Hamdi with my wife and it was the perfect meal from start to finish. We kicked things off with the tartar and a house martini, both excellent, and worked our way through the menu to end with the kebap and the borek. Every plate was beautifully done and you can tell the kitchen is paying attention. Service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere hit exactly right for a date night. I had high hopes about Hamdi's menu, although it's a small menu, it's a good selection of representative dishes. I appreciate the creativity but I think the problem is that the effort to elevate traditional Turkish dishes made them too heavy, too saucy and removed the authenticity. Authentic Turkish dishes, like other Mediterranean cuisines, have light and bright flavor profile, its power comes from getting influenced from different regions like all the way from India, Middle East, Balkans, North Africa, Caucasus, and Central Asia and yet maintaining a common palate to create a vast selection for anyone to enjoy without needing to acquire a special skill to taste and digest the food. I love the ambiance and I think the open kitchen concept is very elegant and unique for Seattle, it feels very homey. The too bright lighting on the round table near entrance I think hampers the integrity of the chic environment. With that price point, Hamdi definitely positions itself to have only once experience. read more

We were there for a birthday, and the staff immediately shouted "happy birthday" at us in a way that felt more aggressive than festive. On top of that, they never offered us more drinks, and they didn't offer dessert or anything to actually celebrate the birthday. And to finish things off, the ventilation clearly needs help -- my hair and clothes left the restaurant smelling like I'd been sitting around a campfire. The food itself is very good with many vegetarian items. However, what was supposed to be a special meal left us all feeling very disappointed... and cooking a snack when we got home after spending nearly $100 per person because we were still hungry. First, the portions are very small for the price. For example, essentially HALF of a fancy baked potato cost $30. It was a delicious half potatoe and I'm sure it had a number of premium ingredients, but the cost was stunning for the portion size. Second, the service is poor. They were constantly rushing us even though we were eating at a normal pace. The brought the check when they delivered dessert and coffee, only to check for payment before we even finished dessert. Hamdi had been on our list to try for awhile. High expectations, quickly our experience fell short. Service was cold and not elevated to the overall cost of the dinner. The coursing was poorly done and for being a place where you share dishes, no serving spoons were provided. We ordered a $209 steak where they upcharge for hot sauce. We ended the night with two desserts. One being the tiramisu. We did not enjoy it, and one of the servers came over and said "oh no one does". Wow! What an experience! We had the private outdoor room. It was perfect for a family celebrating our recent college grad. The owners were so great and easy to work with. Had a reservation here at 7:30 and was promptly seated, the tables were a bit small and the chairs a bit uncomfy. The space is a bit small as well and when a different table came in we were asked to move our table to accommodate them. The service was pretty alright, I thought one of the co-owners who was working was a bit pushy. For our group of 3 she suggested that we have about 7 dishes and we ended up only ordering 5 as we didn't really want anything else and she remarked that "oh are we feeling like being light eaters today" and pushed for us to get extra dishes and I thought it was a bit passive. We did get one more dish which was the dip to go with the bread but I think we would've been happy with the initial dishes we ordered. Overall I thought the food was good, pricey for what it is but probs best Turkish food I've had in Seattle. Also have visited turkey and thought it was pretty yummy. I really liked the wings. I love that it's a 100% wood fired restaurant. Right when you walk in you can smell the amazing aroma of the food being grilled over wood. It's not cheap though! For 2 people our waitress recommended ordering 2 mains, 2 appetizers, and 1 side. If you were to order the absolute cheapest items in those categories, the bill would come out over $100. SERVICE CHARGE - 0/5 They automatically apply a 20% service charge FULLY RETAINED BY THE RESTAURANT. They try to justify it by saying "oh this is how we pay our staff well" which makes no sense. If you're charging such high prices for very small portion food, you should very well be making enough money to pay your staff well. And if you really aren't, then be transparent to customers and raise prices instead of trying to add hidden surcharges in the fine print. This is the type of marketing practice that makes me not want to come back and support a business that does this no matter how good the food is. AMBIANCE - 5/5 I loved the cozy vibe with completely open kitchen. You can see the wood flames and sparks very clearly. It's not a big restaurant but very comfortable to dine in. THE KEBAP - 5/5 For essentially $35 for a single kebap, it'd better be absolutely amazing. And it does not disappoint. The flavor was so intense, almost borderline too intense. Hamdi is such a great find . I've been here twice as a vegan with non vegan friends and husband and it's been amazing both times! The cig kofte is my favorite appetizer and the entree is super flavorful as well. They even had a vegan dessert option for me. My new favorite place! I love when I am pleasantly surprised by a place and introduced to some new foods. There was not a bad thing on the menu, the kereviz was refreshing and tasty, the beef tongue was prepared fantastically and I have never had anything like that before. We also enjoyed the kebap and the steak, while expensive, it was so worth it. We finished with the home-made ice cream, which is a must. They did a great job with the mixed drinks as well, who uses Turkish coffee! The ambiance was great, dimly light place, nicely decorated and inmate. We sat at the chef's table while they prepared the meals, which allowed us to interact with the uber-friendly staff. Actually got a tour of the kitchen after we finished our meals. Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this place. It has been awhile since I have been blown away by place and this one hit all of the marks. I have been to this restaurant on multiple occasions it's good, and we like to visit when in Seattle as there is not a Turkish restaurant where we live. My husband and I were planning a weekend trip and were hoping to come to Seattle and visit Hamdi, unfortunately the weather had other plans and the roads are closed. I called the restaurant as soon as we found out we had to cancel the trip due to not being able to physically get to the city. The person that I talked to was very nice, but she said she had to talk to the manager and owner as there was a cancellation fee if not canceled within 48 hours, I let her know we would be moving our trip to the next weekend and would rebook for then if there was availability. I received a call back several hours later and was told that despite there being no possible way we could make the reservation due to the weather that we would be charged $60.... Per person for the missed reservation. I understand charging a fee for someone callously not showing up for a reservation, but it is absolutely a bad business practice to do so when people call as far in advance as they are able and have NO ability to make the reservation due to circumstances outside of their control. The fact that we could not make it is easily verifiable based on the address in our OpenTable account and a quick google search of road closures. I would strongly discourage anyone from making a reservation for this restaurant if there is ANY chance that you may not be able to make it... so like if you get into a car accident on the way, get sick, your parent goes into the hospital unexpectedly because there are NO exceptions. Unfortunately this restaurant has permanently lost my business and we will need to find a different Turkish restaurant for when we are in Seattle. read more

Tonight, dinner at Hamdi in Seattle. This is an upscale Turkish Restaurant owned by Chef Berk Guldal and his spouse Katrina. Chef Berk received his training at a historic Turkish restaurant in Ankara and has worked in many high end restaurants in the US. The menu is limited in its offerings and changes frequently with the seasons and availability of ingredients. I wish they had more entree options. It is a very small intimate restaurant and reservations are required. We ordered a couple of appetizers and a couple of entrees. All the menu items are listed in Türkiye language. Turkey is now officially called Türkiye. We ordered a Keteviz, a Karpuz, a Kanat, a 20 oz Ribeye and an order of Mangal Ekmek. For dessert we shared a Haytali. You will have to look at the menu to see the descriptions for these islands We ordered a unique mocktail with pomegranate, lavender, rose syrup and lemon spritzer over crushed ice.
