When you take into consideration what this little restaurant is trying to achieve, they have hit a home run. A small Greek restaurant with delicious food and interesting combinations. I had a Greek or Horiatiki salad with chicken souvlaki and braised eggplant. Lovely flavors! I love Greek salads and this one tasted great. My wife's pork souvlaki was a tad dry but still okay. My son ordered the Kipos salad with chicken souvlaki. He liked it. The restaurant is pretty small and seating is limited. We almost had to wait for an open table. You order at the back of the place, they give you a number to put on your table then deliver your food to you. Not a long wait for us. There's a large choice of Greek beverages. And desserts. However we all drank water and passed on dessert. Friendly service from the one person in front. Ordering the first time required me to ask lots of questions, but once I understood their system it's clear. My most important rating is not the number of stars but whether I would return. This review is for their takeout! My husband and I chose this spot to order takeout. We placed our order and it said it'll be ready at 6:35pm. The area is kind of hard to find parking especially during dinner time. Our order wasn't ready for another 30min which made it a little difficult, so minus one star. The front staff was friendly though and the establishment had seating and looked clean! I got the sausage with coleslaw and pita with tzatziki sauce. The coleslaw was a little bland, more oil than vinegar in the dressing, but it was probably the best thing along with the tzatziki sauce and raw tomatoes. What a cute little spot!! A Phinney gem, for sure...inside is very bright, modern, and curated to make it seem like you stepped into Greece. And it does feel like it! With the clean white walls, splash of blues with olive branches scattered throughout. They were soooo friendly too. Superb service! The food was super yummy and flavorful! We had the chicken and pork pitas, and both were so juicy and seasoned so well. The pitas are a hefty size, too. So we came out super full!! You can make it a plate for a few bucks more. And the Avgolemono soup!!! That was such a nice, surprisingly flavorful dish! It reminded me of congee....a refreshing congee with a hint of lemon. So comforting! Although it was above average (I've also been to Greece and love trying Greek food in any major city I visit), I felt it was very over priced though. We ordered takeout but decided to eat inside, and I think the presentation makes a difference. Inside the takeout box, the small portion size for the price became even more obvious. For a few halloumi fries, a small serving of chicken and just a sprinkling of veggies - which was a single lunch serving, the total came out to nearly $30. I didn't think the quality of the food warranted that, but if price isn't really a factor and you want some decent Greek, then maybe it's not as much of an issue. My friend is vegetarian and has celiac, so he shared a marked up menu with us that showed which items would be best for her diet. I am still thinking about my chicken souvlaki plate a week later. They have a ton of options, which is really nice since I feel like a lot of greek places have a lot of lamb options but that's not my favorite. They had chicken, beef, pork, beef patties, falafel, zucchini fritters, and more! I feel like the price is pretty good too! So many places have gyros and plates for $4-5 more although I will say the portion size isn't huge compared to those spots that are pricier. read more

It had taken the spot of a former Thai restaurant, and located between Windy City Pie and Ada's Restaurant & Bar. I had the opportunity to take in a late lunch on 5/26/24. I was able to snag a parking spot around the corner. I placed my order at the front counter with the upbeat staff member and was given a number. I sat at the window counter to dine onsite. The other folks during my visit had placed takeout orders. It's a modest spot with a few tables and counter seating around the periphery. Bright with spare wall decor. I would describe it as fast casual with a focused Greek menu. I chose the plate ($16.50) with the selections of spicy lamb meatballs, lemon rice pilaf, tzaziki sauce, red onion, tomato, and warmed pita cut into quarters. Definitely save a portion of your meatball or pita to get all the tasty remainders. Kind of unwieldy using flatware against the corners of the rectangle enamel coated dish. Real lemon because I found a seed in my rice. Now with lemon and rice...if only there was avgolemeno on the menu. Enjoyed my combo plate. I also ordered the Classic Loukoumades ($10.50), which were fried dough balls topped with cinnamon, walnuts, and Greek honey. I ate two and packaged the rest to take home. This was later devoured by The Homie and given a thumbs up. I prefer the loukoumades from another Greek spot in Magnolia and of course, what's served at the St. Demetrios Greek Festival. I just had Kipos Greek cater our wedding and WOW! 1. Dino was great to work with - he was flexible when my husband and I kept changing times and head count. Very accommodating to our vegan friends as well. 2. Literally all night everyone came up to us raving about the food and saying it wasn't the typical wedding food. I think the average person got three or four plates (we got platters of pita, lemon rice, spicy lamb meatballs, chicken souvlaki, bean salad, feta cheese spicy and other sauce). We go to Kipos during the weekends sometimes for lunch and always thought their food was excellent. Skip the spanakopita rolls. I think they were just over-fried but they were extremely tough with very little filling and what filling there was seemed to be just spinach so not much flavor. All my experiences here has been positive and consistent. Customer service is kind, welcoming and I typically don't wait long for food. The food here is delicious, I've tried a variety of dishes here and I've enjoyed them all. The ingredients taste fresh, light and nothing feels too greasy/heavy. It's really delicious and there's a variety of flavors that are delicious. The halloumi fries with spicy feta was something new and exciting, I've never had anything like it! I feel that there is a lot of pride in keeping the kitchen and restaurant clean. It's a great place to eat at. It's also kid friendly, the restaurant owner is great with kids! My kids can be anxious eaters when out, feel overstimulated, but they find the ambience of the restaurant to be quite soothing. They feel comfortable and relaxed! I think the environment and dishes offered are great for kids to join. They have a kids menu that's great! Highly recommend, get something you're craving but also make sure to try something new. 4.5 stars Tried Kipos for the first time tonight and everyone in our family of four loved it! The restaurant itself is cafe style, casual, bright and clean. Service was friendly but not overly so. We did our order for carryout, so we didn't dine there but we definitely would in the future. My husband is a vegetarian and ordered a salad with harissa yogurt dressing and grilled halloumi for his protein. He devoured it, and said he would absolutely order it again. Our teens tried the bifteki platter, fries, rice pilaf, and zucchini chips. They both enjoyed all of it, one said they would probably order as a pita next time. I had the chicken gyro pita sandwich. Was a little surprised that there were fries in it, but they worked. The tzatziki was a little milder than I prefer(bland), but not a terribly bad thing. It was filling and the chicken was tender and marinated well. I will say the order of lemon rice pilaf was a bit bland, but that might just be me wishing the lemon was a little more forward. The food was absolutely yummy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because they did not give much meat. Got take away for the family from the newest restaurant in the neighborhood. You can order directly off their website- no doordash fees or anything else silly like that. We all got the plates which was meat + side + sauce. We all got chicken which was very good and a variety of sides. The slaw is nice and tart and refreshing. My daughter got the zucchini chips which are razor thin. Sauces were tzaziki and I got the eggplant which was delicious. Next time we'll branch out to the beef and the spicy lamb meatballs. The homemade pita bread is also very good and you are given a good portion with each plate. Prices are totally reasonable especially given portion size. It was ok. Hearing that someone actually was going up try making a real gyro prompted me to give Kipos a go. Sadly most Americans who order gyros have no idea what the real thing is like. There are NO beef/lamb gyros in Greece. They are pork and or chicken and are very moist as well as tasty. These were more like granules of pork heavily seasoned with paprika and another spice I can't place. They DID get the part right about no lettuce. Also tried the spanakopita rolls with phyllo and spinach. But where's the feta? Mine had none so I missed the saltiness that should have balanced everything out. I've been to Athens and the Greek islands (cousins!) and I've never had a bad gyro in Greece. I hope Kipos keeps on trying and gets it right.
