I came here for lunch and thought it was a pretty good place. I got the chicken salad which came with lettuce, bell peppers, tomatoes, caramelized onions, cucumbers, chicken, taziki sauce and feta. When my food came out, I was pleasantly surprise that my salad came with an order or fries as well and the portions of my meal was gigantic. Everything was made fresh to order and the food was pretty tasty. The chicken was fat and juicy and and they didn't skimp out at all. The fries was a little on the salty side but it was still good. I manage to eat the entire thing but ended up not being able to eat anything else the whole day. Service was standard. Disappointing experience with Athena's Food Truck. I decided to check Athena's out during the Bellevue Food Truck Chow Down event, as it was the only food truck with Mediterranean food, which I'm a huge fan of! So you can imagine how pleased I was that Athena's was at the event. But the food was very disappointing and not something I would eat again. I ordered the Greek Salad with gyro meat, which cost me over $12 with tip. Once I got my salad it didn't look appetizing. I was surprised that the salad is made up of iceberg lettuce versus romaine, which I normally find with Greek salads. And since it came with cabbage and carrots I can only assume that the lettuce came from a mixed bag. That wouldn't be so much of an issue had some lettuce not been wilted or turning brown. Not amused. But what may be worse was the overcooked and heavily salted gyro meat. Not only that, but the gyro meat was very thin, so I do not think it was a rotisserie cook and shaved off like how gyro meat is normally made. I cannot believe I wasted $12 on this. I've tried Athena's a couple times as they have started to become a regular at our community events. The workers are very personable and always have a positive attitude. Their ingredients taste fresh and the gyros ($8) are stuffed to the max. Their chicken gyros (Chicken Souvlaki & Special Chicken Bacon Ranch) are delicious - the chicken strips are lean well-seasoned. I also love their fries! However, I tried the lamb gyro a while back and remember that they used patties instead of what I expected to be actual lamb pieces....this one was okay but not my favorite. Athena's is always pretty popular at our local events and they seem to have a constant stream of customers. I've been here multiple times over the past year or so. I have to say, I love the food. The Greek fries are phenomenal and exactly what I'm craving every time I venture to this location. However, the wait is super long. Today, for example, there were two people working in the truck. They are constantly cooking and one worker had to squeeze in orders between her meal prep flow. I waited a good 10-15 minutes to even place my order and 2/5 people in line with me left because it was taking so long. Then, once I got my order in, it took another 15 minutes to get my food. People were definitely getting antsy. One the one hand, awesome they have so many orders that they're constantly cooking and super busy, but on the other hand, they clearly lost business because of the wait. Then throw in the new Meal Pal thing and there wasn't really a flow. I think efficiency can and should improve here so Athena can truly maximize their potential. As another example, this same good truck last year had a third person working in the front of the truck taking orders and staying out of the way of the cooks who could just focus on making everyone's food. While it still took maybe 10 minutes to get food because it was always so busy, it didn't take as long to order and felt like a smoother process. First time trying this today and holy cow the food is delicious! I got a lamb gyro with a side of Greek fries (minus red onion) and it was fantastic. The fries were crispy on the outside and delicate on the inside. The gyro had a great ratio of lamb to veggie filling and the tzatziki and feta toppings were great. They're definitely a right way and a wrong way to make a gyro. Good news in this case, Athena's gets it right. Mostly. You can't miss the truck itself - with it's impressively-epic painting of mythological proportions, set against a bright-blue background, this is one that stands out from the crowd. The people inside the truck are pleasant and approachable, quick to take your order and get it going. I've only ever tried the gyros, but they are good enough to keep me coming back for more. The meat is tender and flavorful, the pita warm and soft, the vegetables fresh. The tzatziki sauce is a little bland, but luckily they don't overdo it and the rest of the ingredients stand out with their own flavours. When I splurge and add the Greek fries, it's an extra treat - fresh and crispy fries with a delicious layer of olives and cheese and garlic. Athena's does not lay claim to the best gyro in Seattle (that would still be my beloved Mediterranean Mix), but when they're fast, friendly, and a lot closer to where I work, Athena's comes in at a very close second. read more

Truck never showed up when I ordered MealPal from them. I called their number and they didn't pick up. Shady business. Reporting them on MealPal. Apparently this isn't the first time they haven't showed up, recommend everyone read the other yelp reviews. If a business can't even commit to showing up, it reflects the integrity of the owner. And with that I can't trust them or what's in the food. When you order something from that menu that is specifically mentioned that it is vegetarian, you expect it to be vegetarian... well not in this case. Very disappointing to find a piece of chicken in my vegetarian falafel. I would have taken it back but unfortunately had a meeting coming up. Athena's food truck deserves 0 stars, and here's why. I've had the misfortune of ordering food here with Mealpal three times. The first time, on Aug 6, the truck was not at the spot shown on the map (Westlake) when I went to pick up my meal. I called the number listed on their website but the call went straight to voicemail. Note that Mealpal charges you for your order before you pick it up, so I had to follow up with their customer support for a refund. The second time, on Aug 30, I ordered a Greek Philly. This time the truck was at the Olive Way location that they advertised. However, when I went there to pick my meal, they had run out of bell peppers and could not make me a Greek Philly sandwich. Instead, they offered the standard beef lamb gyro. Further, the meal is supposed to be ready for pick up when you arrive. Instead, I had to wait in line for 30 minutes. The food was half decent so I'm not too salty about giving them the mandatory 1 star. The third time, on Sep 4, I ordered a Chicken Gyro but the food truck was not at its advertised location on Olive way, or anywhere else in the area. No one answered the phone either. Needless to say, Athena's food truck will not be getting any more of my business. And I suggest you stay away as well. What bothers me about this place is how well they put together the presentation, but fail to deliver. At Des Moines Farmers market they ran out of gas and had a bunch of upset people. That's fine. What isn't fine is that they didn't realize the gas ran out until they were serving cold food. They didn't bother to apologize or even acknowledge this issue to the folks patiently waiting. We waited nearly 45 minutes for some bad food. Then forgot our order. We spent $21 on this. About their food. Awful and just bland all the way around. The final straw is that they served cold fries to us knowing that they ran out of gas. Wow. They gave us our money back, hence two stars. Would have been better comments had they apologized. I paid for mine and GF returned hers and cold fries. We were polite but workers just wrote off the exchange. I own a business (non-food service) and know how hard it is to keep track of quality. Apparently in Des Moines you need some work as compared to the Amazon crowd in Lake Union. I see Amazon reviews are higher. Improvements to customer facing interactions at the point of service in out-of-Seattle venues will go a long way to improving the experience overall. read more

Pretty tasty gyros and fries. I like that they have rotating specials to put a twist on the classic gyro. The gyros could definitely be bigger for the price, though, especially given that there are plenty of super generous gyro places around Seattle. The food was pretty mediocre, until I had to deal with the staff. They are obviously not trained in customer service. My friend ordered a falafel, without realizing it had no meat. She took one bite, and was surprised and expected a new gyro from the staff. But the young girl at the counter only offered her a to go box. She did not once ask if she wanted to switch for a new one, which restaurants usually do when customers are dissatisfied. Just a to go box. The lady working knew my friend was unhappy, but continued on just standing at the counter and eventually asked my friend if she could throw the barely touched falafel away. Good and different. The lamb gyro is not made from the usual spinning log of meat ... or at least I don't think it is. The texture and taste are very different. I like the spinning meat log but I like their lamb gyro even more. The chicken souvlaki was fine as well but nothing to write home about (or write up on yelp about). I usually don't complain about restaurant prices but I did think the price point here was just a touch high. It's $7 for a lamb gyro and $3 for a side of fries. I wish they had offered some kind of combo for perhaps $9. I know it's only a $1 difference and that seems really petty (even as I'm sitting here writing this) it makes a difference in terms of perception. No traditional gyros here..... My lamb gyro was every little bit of a yummy goodness. It's a combo of seasoned lamb, smothered in sauce, with canalized onions spewing out of the sides, topped with a sprinkle feta cheese. I am a fan of messy foods. The messier the better it tastes. I always take my order to go so I can lick my fingers and without judgment. I have also tried their Zeus Burger which was also pretty good but in my opinion the gyros are the way to go. I was looking forward to a Gyro all day long after hearing about this place for awhile and their Grand Opening, I figured this would be a perfect time to try it. I ordered 2 Lamb Gyros and a Greek Salad. I can honesty say that this is the worst Food I have ever eaten. One of the Pitas was burned black! No exaggeration. How can something like that leave your shop during a Grand Opening!? The other Pita was not warmed at all. The caramelized onions did not work on the sandwich at all. They claim there is Tzatziki on the sandwich, but if there was, I couldn't tell because it was covered in a watered down greasy substance that I am unfamiliar with. The flavor of the meat was not even vaguely familiar to the Lamb that I grew up eating that was prepared by Greek families. I have no idea how it could be so horrible. The Greek Salad had about 4 olives in it and very little Feta. It was basically a bed of lettuce drenched in oil. I can't even begin to explain my disappointment with this place. I would never go back. I never eat fast food, but I would rather eat anything from any fast food chain in America before I ate this again. Athena's food truck came to where I work today. I love Greek food. I love food trucks. I am also typically not that picky about it. Does it have feta? Good. Does it have tzaztiki? Great. Does it have kalamata olives? Perfect. I'll eat it and be happy. I wanted to like this food. I really did. Their truck has kitschy artwork. It's unassuming. I thought it would be awesome. I ordered the falafel gyro. I love falafel. The falafel itself is seasoned well. Now, there is something to be said for having big balls, don't get me wrong; but this does not apply to falafel. The balls were far too big to cook properly. I saw the scoop they used and cringed. It was an ice-cream sized scoop. For falafel. No. I ate it, don't get me wrong. Wanted to check this truck out for lunch since I walk by it everyday. I ordered the traditional gyro and was very disappointed. First off, I expected more quantity for the price of 11$(with tip). The quality wasn't great either. It was bland, lacked sauce, and there wasn't all that much meat inside. I must say I can usually find the positive in any place that I eat, but with this place it was really difficult. I went to the Outdoor Movies at Magnusson park which is a fun experience if you haven't been before. Now I will try to review exactly what happens so people do not think I am exagerating. I got to the park at 7:30. The movie starts at 9. I figured I would have plenty of time to hang out with my friends. After setting up my blanket and pillows I decided to grab a Gyros and fries Athenas food truck. Line wasn't that long. I got in line at 7:40 pm. I placed my order, again for a gyros and fries at 7:50 pm. Now here is where it gets bad. They just must not have thought that there was going to be anyone at this movie (which shouldn't happen considering they were at the Outdoor Movies the week before) but I didn't get my food until 8:45. That is almost a full hour after I placed the order. I couldn't hang out with my friends before the movie started at all. It basically ruined the whole night for me. To top things off they used frozen lamb patties. What? Come on you are a truck specializing in selling Gyros. That is like a pizza truck serving frozen pizzas. In all the food was probably a 4 out of 10. Obviously not enough to make up for the long wait times. And to top it all off the person who handed out the food didn't even apologize to any of the customers like.me.saying they were sorry for the wait. Saying this place Sucks is not doing justice to the places that may not have the best food but it least try to have great service. read more

The staff has no hustle, that means long waits and cold food. Sandwiches are wrapped like burritos, not gyros, which gives you a lap full of sauce. The proper way is to place the sandwich butt-side into the center of the foil, twist, then douse the exposed top with sauce. I was excited to try beef, but they were out of it, along with falafel, and some vegetables. I got chicken instead. Lemon/garlic levels were satisfactory, though could be ramped up for a bigger, Greeker flavor. Sodium and fat was thankfully not on doner-kabob levels. French fries in the sandwich would improve the portion size and authenticity greatly. I am very picky about my lamb gyros and this was one of the best I've ever had! we got the pleasure of having them at the gorge amphitheater. Their credit card machine was not working correctly and we got charged twice but Nick took care of it as soon as we emailed him and we wish more businesses cared as much about their customers as Nick does. I'm done with these guys. I've been a couple of times and they take forever. I guess they don't know to turn their oil on when they get to their destination? I have found their falafel wraps to be exceptionally peppery. By this I mean, they must use pepper corns to make their falafel dough, because all you get is massive amounts of pepper. It's horrible. Today I got a falafel wrap and a gyro wrap. They gave me the gyro wrap, and than 10 minutes later, the falafel wrap. By this point the gyro meat was cold and mealy. It was just horrible. Who gives you half of your order early? Similarly, their Greek Fries are a pepper mess. When I got them last time there was not even a touch of hummus (as advertised). The tzatziki seemed to be mayo based and was missing the garlic/dill that I was craving. Pretty heavy on the toppings and enjoyed the feta/olives and the warmed pita. I don't know how this place got anything higher than a 2 star at best. It was really gross!! I was VERY excited to try this considering there are very few places in highland park to eat at. I got the beef gyro, the greek fries and onion rings, and my husband got the Zeus burger ( we wanted to try a bit of everything) My gyro was completely inedible, the meat was extremely tough and fatty, the pita was stale and it was DOUSED in an flavorless sauce. The fries and the onion rings were covered, and I mean COVERED in a very pungent spice blend that completely took away from any other flavor. I can literally still taste it in my mouth 4 hours later. My husband said his burger was OK but nothing special. The girl working the counter was very nice, but other than that I really can't say anything good about the place. Such a let down :( read more

Yay! I had a Mealpal order at one of the Athena's trucks today, and that truck wasn't able to make it there (no idea why... could be the construction, could be permitting issues with other trucks in the area, who knows?). I did my due diligence and walked around the area without about a block or two of the usual location, gave up and went walking back to my office, and found the other Athena's truck on the way. I explained what happened to them, and they happily fulfilled my order. I love that they owned the situation and went above and beyond to make it right for me, with a smile.
