Alanya Doner is a family friendly neighborhood eatery that many people seem to like. The proprietors are very nice. Located near the Kirkland waterfront, they are a small-ish eatery with a few tables inside and two-ish outside on nice days. I really wish I like them more. I have tried them twice. We reacted both times with a shoulder-shrug kind of "it's ok", not great, not horrible, either. Their Turkish type of beef and lamb doner meat is the meatier variant. It looks like actual meat, less processed than some Mediterranean doner/gyro meats, but also oilier. We must have arrived during a slow period because our meat pieces were chewier and drier with a deeper brown on most pieces, which mean the meat have been rotating for a longer time, in between orders. Very friendly mom and pop shop ran by a friendly couple. I got their Turkish pizza which was made fresh and it definitely hit the spot. The place was quaint with a couple of tables. Alanya Doner is located in the heart of downtown Kirkland, which has plenty of paid parking, but not many free spaces. There were about 8 tables inside, but there was plenty of room on a Friday for lunch. The hours of the store mean that you are most likely unable to grab their food for dinner, but if you have enough flexibility in your schedule to swing by, this was the closest to the doner experience I had in Istanbul available in the US. You do pay before Beef and Lamb Doner Sandwich (4.5/5): GET THIS ITEM GET IT. The beef and lamb doner is insanely moist with bits of fat that add a fantastic texture to your bites. I wish they gave me more of the tzatziki sauce, but the meat was so delicious and juicy on it's own, the sandwich never felt dry. Chicken Doner Salad (1.5/5): Really, really wasn't a fan of this one unfortunately. The chicken was impressively bland and kinda stringy. Always always go for the beef and lamb and if you can only eat chicken, tough luck I guess. Kunefe (4/5): This dessert is essentially crunchy filo pastry filled with a very mild cheese. If you haven't tried it, it may sound a bit odd, but it's AMAZING. This has been the only spot I've found on the Eastside that serves an authentic version, but you do have to wait 10-15 minutes so the restaurant can toast one fresh for you. I was looking for something filling after taking a Barre class nearby. First of, parking in this part of town is not easy - limited parking along narrow street, plus the ongoing construction. I accidentally drove into the Marina Park area, where there was no parking and was essentially a deadend. It seems like a mom and pop shop. There were 2 people working when I came on a Saturday afternoon. The Doner sandwich with beef & lamb was delicious. For $12, the sandwich was a great deal. We had a really pleasant low-key dinner at the hole in the wall mom and Pop shop in the middle of the Kirkland waterfront area. I definitely underestimated how difficult it would be to get into a restaurant without a reservation by the water and we were really lucky to get a table at Alanya Doner right before they closed for the day. The shawarma plate was delicious and the Turkish pizza was unique as well. The owner is extremely friendly and overall atmosphere was very welcoming. Definitely recommend visiting if you are visiting Kirkland waterfront and want somewhere delicious but low-key to eat at. Of note, they do close at 6 PM, so it may be difficult to come for dinner. read more

Came in the early afternoon and was helped by the owner right away. Tried the Turkish coffee without sugar and pogaca. The coffee was hot and strong. Alana Doner was amazing and I can't recommend it enough. We stopped by for lunch and a Turkish coffee and enjoyed an amazing "Pride", a Turkish pizza, that was handmade from scratch while we waited - from the dough on up. Unique and delicious. The Summer salad we ordered along with it was made with vegetables fresh from the owner's garden. It does not get fresher than this. This was such a wonderful stop to make! We were leaving a nearby business after having a drink and I was feeling munchy. This cafe was but a few feet away that I had bookmarked from where we were. I got their Beef and Lamb Kebab. This was made up of shredded beef and lamb with a wonderful tomato type sauce along with yogurt. This dish simply blew me away. Everything was homemade and the yogurt that came with my dish was simply out of this world. Steve then started getting hungry and ordered a bowl of soup and some baklava. His soup was absolutely wonderful and the baklava that we shared was outstanding with it's balanced sweetness and flaky crust. Came on a beautiful Saturday noon - I'll say this to start - it is very warm inside so you aren't likely to want to eat inside. Fortunately there are tables outside and the waterfront park with benches etc are a minute away. During summer it is a no brainer to eat outside or takeaway. Ordered two items we split - the Doner plate (Turkish version of a gyro plate) - you can have bulgar pilaf or rice (we opted for the pilaf) and then it comes with strips of lamb/beef, salad, pita and tzatziki. Good portion and tasty - All the elements come together for a nice dish that I would reorder. 2nd item was simply pita and hummus and this was a solid offering as well. Owner came by and asked how things tasted and how are day was going - nice touch and love supporting small business owners as I'm one myself. 5/5 and will frequent probably once every six weeks or so since it is a five minute walk from residence. This place is what I love about Kirkland - family owned, non-prentious, and really good homemade food. Was looking for somewhere for breakfast that was a bit out of the ordinary. Though there was a small breakfast menu everything was available so choices were a'plenty. You order inside and they bring the food to you. We had a Baku and a Pide. Dough my goodness! Light flaky buttery dough with both. The Baku is like a Turkish calzone, but filled with spinach and mozzarella or feta and parsley. So yummy and the perfect compliment to the delightful Turkish coffee. Sitting outside and people watching I could have been there all day. Didn't stop there. We also order a Pide, which is similar to a pizza, but only on that it's dough topped with goodness. We ordered one with sausage and egg and cheese. Rich and flavorful, and so big we had to bring it home. The owner is incredibly nice. Stopped by our table a few times to check on us. We came to the Kirkland waterfront to watch the sunset and spontaneously decided to grab a quick bite, ordering two chicken Doner sandwiches, ayran, and of course baklava. The service was quick and the owners were very friendly. The sandwich was fresh with flavorful chicken in a soft pita. Husband had the ayran which was refreshing taste to go with the sandwich. I love Doner Kebab's and when I saw this place, I was super stoked to have one so close to where I work. The person who took my order (owner) was super friendly. Restaurant was clean, nice bathrooms. That's where my pleasure ended. I regret ordering what I thought was going to be a traditional wrap, but instead ended up being a regular tortilla. The paper wrapper was dripping with grease and when I opened it to add the hot sauce (it was either Tapatio or Cholula...def not a Turkish topping), the entire thing was just greasy and falling apart and so the tortilla would not even hold together. All would be forgiven if it was tasty, but it wasn't even that....sorry. But I have had way better. The sweets were good though. My kids enjoyed the baklava. read more

We decided to order the doner plate with beef and lamb and the pide with turkey sausage. Dober plate: close to mediterrean food but the meat is drier, almost jerky like and the pita bread is a lot softer. It also came with bulgur and pilaf which was super aromatic. If it wasnt for pide, I would have devour the pita.the pide was amazing. Its like a pizza and a cheesy/garlic bread had a baby. The crust was crispy and the inside was cheesy and filled with sausage. The dough was homemade and it was definitely delicious. Service was also good. Despite it being takeout, the people made a lot of consideration: left the food in the front so we were 'social distancing'. They were very nice people. We grabbed Alanya Doner for lunch based on all the reviews, and were excited to try it. Unfortunately, our meal was nearly inedible. I got the Doner Sandwich (like a Gyro) and my husband ordered the chicken plate. They were both made with the most dry, flavorless meat I've ever had while eating out. They were both prepared differently, so we expected at least one to have flavor and be good. I went back through the other reviews and it appears they may be inconsistent, which is a kiss of death for me. At close to $50 for lunch, I cannot afford to eat anywhere inconsistent or bad. I don't think many of us in Kirkland realize how lucky we are to have Alayna Döner in town. It's a small spot, which is ideal if you want to walk down to the waterfront and enjoy a nice day/view. The service is great, quick, and friendly. I ordered a lamb/beef Döner on pita bread. This is hands down the best Döner I have ever had. It took me right back to living in Germany, where you can find a Döner shop on every corner. The meat is so fresh, tender, and delicious. The owner and employees were super friendly, the food probably took about 15-20 minutes to be ready, and tasted amazing. For the several years I've worked in downtown Kirkland, this place has served consistently great food with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. My favorite is the döner plate with house made hot sauce. On sunny days, I'll take it to go and eat at Marina Park, and on colder days I'll eat inside and enjoy Turkish music videos. I walked in a bit early before meeting up with a college friend yesterday at Cafe Alanya in Kirkland (6/23/18). But immediately greeted by a couple and presumbably the owner of this Turkish cafe. After giving serious thought, wished I did not eat my entire breakfast croissant just a few hours before. The overhead menu had so many delicious choices! What I did order was delicious: a bowl of homemade Red Lentil Soup. I disregarded the accompanying, unnecessary oyster crackers. The flavor was amazing (and vegan)! I also enjoyed the Feta Cheese Borek. Tender, delicate crust with not overly salty creamy feta. The seeded top added a nice crunch. And of course, some Turkish coffee with a bit of sugar. Served piping hot, but after two hours of animated conversation I drank it after it had cooled. My bad. It didn't give me the smack of being hit on the forehead, but felt the effective presence of its contents. The cafe had its share of takeout, but the few tables were filled during my two hour visit. Clearly a favorite of regular clientele and passersby at this corner on Lake Drive. Always a pleasure to meet up with a college friend from the good ol' Lander Hall and road trip days. Had a hearty meal here. I got the chicken döner plate with yogurt. The plate included bulgur (i substituted instead of rice), salad, tzatziki along with a generous portion of chicken. One word: Legit I personally don't have much experience with Turkish food, but my coworker who lived there does. For lunch, he insisted we drive all the way to Kirkland from downtown Seattle to eat here. I'm glad he did! Our whole group ordered the Iskender. A massive plate with pita slices on the bottom with layers of beef and lamb on top drizzled in delicious tomato sauce. There's yogurt on the side to mix the dish with and we also got homemade hot sauce upon request. The combination of flavors, texture, and portions worked amazingly well. A bonus is that this place is an authentic Turkish mom and pop shop. Definitely hoping to come another time. Tip: if you order the coffee, flip the cup over on its rim on the plate when you're done.
