5/11/23,This is probably my fourth visit my friends were taking me out for a milestone birthday celebration and one of them is vegetarian and this had lots of options. This was the first time for all three of them. First off going to say our waiters Mehmet was awesome made the experience and celebration even more fun! Friendly never made us feel rushed as we were waiting for some of the gang to arrive doe to traffic and parking. Joked around and was open to giving suggestions. My go too since my second visit has always been Beyti with Lamb. I decided to try something new last night and went with the Ali nazik with chicken. Was delicious as I knew it would be and felt a little lighter. But still love the Lavash texture of Beyti. One of my friends had the beyti with beef the other had the same dish as myself and the third ordered two apps the rainbow hummus and grilled eggplant ezme. Was gifted a piece of Revani (Semolina flour and orange cake with light syrup and coconut sprinkles) for my birthday from Mehmet omg never had this dessert was so good. Not overly sweet. I actually quite surprised how good this was! The service was super quick too. The salad with my meal was amazing and my favorite. The dressing, I can't even explain it, it was that good. If you like citrus or tangy like dressing, you'll love it. The main dish itself was super good. I love tomato based food with rice, so it was a perfect condor me. The rice was nice and well cooked. The food was good. At initial look it seems pricey but when you consider the amount of time/ seasoning and prep that goes into this cuisine it is average priced. The ambience is so unique really feels like you have been transported into a different world. They weren't that busy but it took so long for us to be able to get our check and order. This is the lamb Beyti Kebab. I like that the wrapping was very thin, not doughy, and crispy and soft at some parts. The lamb itself was a little dry. Wish there was more salad or veges inside the kebab for a well rounded flavor and texture profile as it was very much carnivorous and meaty. Shared this plate between two people and was fairly filling but I don't think I could eat the whole thing because the flavor was fairly one tone/would get bored of it. They did have other dishes that looked good as we saw them brought out to other tables like their wraps so I might try those next time. read more

Food: Orient Express Platter ($24) - Loved trying the 5 different types of mezze with the toasted pita bread - each mezze was so wonderfully flavorful! The three main dishes are adana kebab, which I think is the best among the three dishes. It is very fragrant and moderately hard; ali nazik with lamb. I didn't see the eggplant, maybe it was in the white sauce. The lamb inside was soft and rotten and easy to eat; kuzu shish kebab is a few large pieces of roasted lamb, which is the leanest and most solid meat among the three. I ordered rainbow hummus with four flavors. I think the yellow one is the best. Next time I come, I will only order the yellow one. Several flavors have very delicate sweetness. Homemade ayran is his specialty drink. Salt and a little herb are added to the diluted yogurt, but there is no herb taste. The diluted yogurt tastes a bit strange but drinkable. The dessert birds' nest is also very delicate and sweet, but it is not American sweet so it is very acceptable. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, fragrant and delicious. It's been five years since I visited this restaurant and I can't say enough about this place in Fremont. The atmosphere while eating here is quite lovely. The interior design makes me want to look around and be at awe with the colors, glass, and umbrellas. The food tasted wonderful as I remembered. This round, I wanted to try out one entree through a fellow yelper's review: Falafel My Way Plate and one pida entree, which my friend and I decided to go with Karışık pide (which contain a good amount of meat). To go along with our food, we ordered Arnold in Türkiye, which is half lemonade, half Turkish black tea. The drink was quite refreshing as it was not too sweet and goes along with the carb-focused entrees. The Falafel My Way Plate is a type of dish where all different food component combined makes every bite really enjoyable. Make sure to grab a little bit of rice, a bit of crispy falafel bonbon with hummus, and veggies on your spoon. The pide was great choice too with the amount of meat and cheese for two people. Also, the crust is thin enough to consume as well! Through catching up with my friend and when the food arrived at our table, I felt like it didn't take that long. Tonight we ordered from DoorDash and were shocked to pay over $100 for very mediocre and small portions of dolma, eggplant dip, and pickles (seriously, $11 for about half a cup of mostly pickled celery? The nerve!). The entrees tasted ok but were not worth the price (you can get much higher quality for half the price on Capitol Hill). The kicker was $8 for two pieces of pistachio baklava. We love baklava. These pieces were TINY. Seriously, no larger than a chocolate truffle. We realize there's markup on delivery, and we're glad to pay it when we're not being fleeced by the quality and portion size. Visited Cafe Turko recently for the first time with some friends. I was able to try the lamb durum, manti, the rainbow hummus plate, muhummara spread, and one of the pizzas. Every flavor of the rainbow hummus plate (yam, beet, spinach, and regular) were delicious. I almost licked the plate of the muhummara spread (walnuts, peppers, herbs/spices, pomegranate molasses). I would order those appetizers every time. I found the lamb durum to be a bit one-note so I added yogurt sauce and that was great. I only had one piece of pizza but enjoyed it. The manti (pasta filled with spiced beef) was simply made and tasty. I'd like to try some additional dishes on my next visit if I have room after devouring the spreads with pita. The restaurant itself has colorful and attractive decor. Our visit was on a Saturday night and every table was filled with customers while others were put on a wait list. There didn't seem to be enough servers for the number of tables so there were several glitches in service. Came here for a tasty dinner on a bustling Friday night. The wait for a table for 2 was about 40 minutes. We were quite hungry so it felt long, but we popped over to Schilling cider for a drink while we were waiting. The only disappointing part of our experience was getting service once we were seated. While the kitchen was bustling, we didn't see many servers walking around to take orders and the people next to us were seated later than us but had their order taken before us. We had to flag someone down to take our order. Food came out quickly though and it was delicious. The hummus was smooth and creamy. We ordered the borek but they were out of it and suggested the za'atar flatbread instead, which was soft and fresh. We had a sort of lamb roll too that was fresh and tasty. The staff was kind, pointing out recommendations and clarifying how things would taste. My friend was visiting from Hawaii and neither of us had tried Turkish food. I'm glad we could share a comforting foray into delectable entrees that left us content. The beyti is rightfully famous. The lavash wraps with tender doner meat and gooey cheese are delightful finger food. Adding a dip into spicy and yogurt sauces only heightens the already tantalizing flavors. But the star for me was the aromatic lamb, with its sweet apricots that beautifully offset the rich spices and nuts. Lamb is my favorite protein across many cuisines and that continues to be the case after my first foray into Turkish food. I've wanted to try Cafe Turko for a while. Overall a great menu with many options for veg and non-veg alike. You'll find much more than the usual falafel and baba ganouj. A wide range of mezze (appetizers) with clear indications of gluten-free, veg, and more. Get out of your comfort zone and try some fava beans or endless amounts of garlic in the yogurt sauces. Eggplant is a specialty and always my favorite. I had the Ali Nazik (polite Ali) fire which was seasoned roasted eggplant with other vegetables, garlic sauce, salad, and tasty rice. Good size portion for one but save room for their many desserts. I had it with black cardamom tea for the evening chill. Overall, Cafe Turko goes into heavy rotation, and I'll be back with my partners. It was a Friday and packed. Great to see people out and enjoying local restaurants. Bonus tip: there are quite a few grocery items and desserts available for take-out. If you like the many teas and need pomegranate juice or molasses, you have your hookup in downtown Fremont. We came to Cafe Turko on a Sat night, and it wasn't too busy and luckily no wait! We wanted to sit outside, but apparently they don't serve you outside. If you want to sit there, you have to order takeout and just eat it out there, so we opted to just eat indoors instead. This place mostly has chicken or lamb, so if that's not your fav types of meat, might be hard to find something for you. I don't love lamb, so I got the Tavuk Adana Kebab and my partner go the Ali Nazik with lamb. My kebab was really good! It was super tender, and the flavor was great, and my partner liked his dish too. I do think it was pretty overpriced. My kebab was made out of ground chicken and cost $27, and the portion wasn't huge. Also the service was a little off. The woman who took our order was super sweet, but it did take us forever to flag someone down to get our check and when we finally did, the man kind of didn't really acknowledge us and walked away. They seemed pretty busy for a weekday so I would imagine they get busier on weekends. It is in a busy area plus the fun interior probably draws people in. I was glad we ended up here as the food was delicious! We had a few different appetizers to share and I also had a cup of the lentil soup. The portions are not very big so just watch out for that. Although not cheep, the food quality is very good here. I enjoyed everything although I wish the moussaka had been warm rather than cold. Overall I would certainly come back here when in the area. Cafe Turko is one of my favorite places to showcase to friends and family who visit from near or far. Everything from the decor to the food to the service is lovely. The interior of the restaurant is fun and lively with colorful umbrellas and unique stain glass light fixtures. The food is always a hit! This time we tried out the Seven Spice fries with fresh tomato sauce and they very yummy! The fries were well-seasoned, but the real winner was the fresh tomato sauce. Next we had my all-time favorite: the Grilled Chicken Pide and another hit: the Falafel My Way Plate. The Pide is something I always order without fail. It has an ooey gooey cheesy center with grilled chicken, bell pepper, and some tomatoes sprinkled on top. The crunch of the bread reminds me of a pizza crust and is my absolute favorite part. The Falafel Ny Way Plate did not fall short of my expectations either! The falafel rings were wonderfully flavorful, not too dry, and the hummus was divine. I'm not sure what they put in the rice, but the Turkish wedding rice was also delicious too! We thoroughly enjoyed spreading the hummus on the falafel rings and eating it with a spoonful of rice. Cafe Turko has many things going for it. From the decor, to the hustle and bustle, to most importantly the foooood. The rainbow hummus is an absolute must appetizer especially if it's your first time. It's so vibrant when it comes out and you get a sampling of all their different types of hummus. Their pita bread is warm, soft, and comforting. Don't make the same mistake as my table of rationing out the pita in fear that you'll run out to eat all the hummus. Our server refilled our small platter of pita when he saw that we ran out, so just ask! All the main dishes we ordered were great, with the one caveat of being a bit too salty, but what I loved the most was the beyti kebab! Definitely recommend. I've never had Turkish coffee before and so I ordered one to try it. BEWARE, the massive heap at the bottom of the coffee is not chocolate that's meant to be eaten, it's unfiltered coffee grounds. Be prepared for deliciousity! I never had Turkish cuisine before. It was never even on my radar but we were in the area and Cafe Turko had amazing reviews so when it opened we went for lunch. A frequent comment on bringing new cuisine into an area is making it accessible for the masses. Cafe Turko does just that though the accessibility showed how amazing Turkish cuisine really is. For example their menu has pide and then (pizza) beside it. I like pizza a lot so I ordered pide kiymali and found this oval shaped flatbread was pizza's more interesting cousin. It was amazing! The beef was spiced, the cheese perfect, the crust oh so soft - I was impressed with the huge profile of flavors that danced across my mouth. It was amazing! My friend ordered the lamb Ali Nazik and stated it was the best lamb he has had in years. He gushed about how good it was able to cut it with a fork. Super tender! To drink I had the Velvet Sip and my friend ordered the Turkish coffee. He was thrilled with his. I was surprised with how much texture mine had but it was still very good! Just chewier than I was anticipating. For dessert I was limited to halwa and Turkish delight. My friend ordered the revani. They were out of coconut so they put pistachios on top which my friend preferred. It was a different experience and probably one I would not repeat. The halwa was interesting as it had a dry, almost chalky texture with first bite and then would almost become mousse like. The restaurant itself was magical. It was bright and colorful and gorgeous. It had such a wonderful atmosphere I could soak it all in. But not too long because it wasn't long before the place was packed! By the time we got our dessert there was not a single open table and a line waiting at the door. I haven't tried Turkish cuisine before, and it is something that I personally would love to try - and upon seeing the reviews and photos for Cafe Turko, decided to check that off my list! We went on a Saturday at 5:30pm and were seated promptly. The service at this restaurant is inviting, fast, and friendly - and it is great to hear recommendations since the menu is loaded with so many enticing options that I wanted to try! I got a variety of options to try and I'll review them all down below: Velvet Sip: This was an interesting drink option as I haven't had a chai similar to this one before! There were a lot of walnut and coconut flakes near the top of the drink - almost felt like I was eating the drink rather than drinking it for some time! They were generous with the toppings and the chai itself was smooth afterwards - does reflect the name of the beverage well. Hummus Platter: Wanted to try all the fantastic hummus options at Cafe Turko and what better option than to order the hummus platter! This platter looks like it comes with 4 flavor options - original, beets, yam, and spinach. I would say my personal favorites were a close matchup between the beet and yam option - they were both sweeter than your traditional hummus but had a smoother texture. You could definitely taste the vegetable when eating these hummus options, with the beets and spinach being on the more pronounced side. The pita bread that comes with hummus is fantastic! Crispy with a slightly smoky aftertaste from the oven it was baked in. Ali Nazik Mania: Both the chicken and lamb looked like they were solid options to try on the menu, so I decided to get both to see which one is better! After trying both, I personally like the texture and taste of the chicken more. The lamb was tender and flaked apart, but was a bit more on the drier side for the thicker pieces. The chicken was tender and had the delicious spice mixture spread evenly overall, so I would probably just get the chicken options the next time I come back! The rice was scrumptious - had good flavor, was fluffy and complemented the lemony sauce and the meats well. The salad was refreshing, especially the pomegranate vinaigrette that come on top of it - gives off a subtle fruity flavor that was a welcome addition to the collection of flavors in the entree! Overall, spent about $82 for everything that you see here - and everything was great, from the atmosphere, food, and service. I would definitely love to come back to try the other options! I've had this place bookmarked on yelp for a few years and finally came to check it out with my sister. The interior is a large space with tables well spaced out.
