For a place that seems like it should just be a run of the mill shawarma place that drunken revelers in the Pike and Pine section of Cap Hill go to sober up when the bars close, the food at Casablanca Express is shockingly good! Specializing in Moroccan dishes, they do have your other staple, Mediterranean/middle eastern staples (hummus, shawarma, Falafel etc). My usual go-to items: Bakkoula: I love this realtively healthy side dish of steamed spinach with lemon and spices. Nice sour contrast to all the heavier main meal options. Lamb broth: holy crap this is good! Lots of cinnamon and other savory warm spices and chickpeas. It's a smallish serving, but it Comes with a bit of pita bread. It's so good when it is cold outside! Lamb shank: fall off the bone tender! Also comes with Lamb broth on the side with some hummus and small side salad. For $18 it's actually quite a lot of food. Harissa chicken: 1/4 bone in chicken covered in harissa spices. Perfectly cooked, succulent. It looks like it might be very spicy, but it it's not. lots of great flavor! Given its location, it really gives off a more fast food vibe so it's not a sit down experience. most of the traffic in and out of there is to go orders. When you are there later at night, expect it to be packed with the bar/club crowds, so I tend to go before the night time rush when it is virtually empty. I also appreciate their spotless bathroom, which you can only access if the shopkeeper buzzes you in. I had a lot of food cravings during the night and decided to walk around Capitol Hill before I landed on Casablanca Express. It has been a while since I had eaten Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food, so the thought of being able to eat it again had me excited. This place is considered "Fast-Casual", ordering and picking up your food at the counter. The inside is a little outdated, but you're not here for a special dine-in experience after all. I ordered their Gyro Plate that comes with the typical gyro meat, basmati rice, a small salad, and a side of hummus and pita bread. The presentation of this dish I found interesting. Most of the food was on top of a paper plate, but then it was also on top of a nice slab of wood that kind of gave it an extra charm. When it came to eating the gyro plate however, it was kind of lack-luster in a lot of ways. The meat was okay but it tasted like it had been sitting out and reheated. I also didn't think there was enough sauce spread out on the food compared to other places that are more generous. Bread and hummus was fine and the salad was okay too. I didn't bother finishing the rice though, it was very bland. If you're just trying to find a place open late at night, this isn't a bad option. However, if you are trying to find some good Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food, then there are surely a lot of better options in the city. read more

I arrived in Seattle late and was starving. This place had 4 stars and was offering Gyros and Fries so I assumed you can't go wrong with that! To my knowledge you CAN mess up a Gyro. Not sure what seasoning or herb they had in the chicken Gyro but it was so potent and strong it overpowered the taste of the Gyro. I didn't even finish half of it. The loaded fries were tasty as I finished those completely since the Gyro was no good. If you see this place on Door Dash or Uber Eats, try them out for yourself but be cautious of the Gyros. If I could give this place 0 stars I would I'm from Seattle and this has taken the spot for #1 WORST place I've been to and an absolute rip off We arrived at 12am and had a group of 4 at our table. The cashier brings our food but not enough forks. One person asks him for a fork and he asks us to wait. There is only one other customer that he is helping. Meanwhile, I am the only one sitting there with no utensils (or food) before I get up planning to get it myself. He finally gives me a fork and I thank him for giving it to me when our food is almost done. Because they are a new business I gave them a 30% tip... which I highly regretted after I was served my food. I feel as if the cook did it intentionally but I ordered the chicken kebab sandwich and there was barely any chicken in it. It also took a while to arrive. It costs 11.99 and I paid $17 for this absolute garbage. The first three bites were nothing but lettuce! Same with the end of it. Is this a McDonald's wrap??? Cause that costs $4 which is what this piece of tortilla was worth. I was very upset after this, because we had been planning to go to dicks but I said I was down to try this place and felt absolutely ripped off. I hope they go out of business. I got a Charmoula plate which was a huge serving (that I felt matched the price). I was satisfied with the flavor. I think this place has a solid menu that would make me come back next time. However, I dont think this is a good "grab and go" place since my order took longer for a weekday work lunch. The place gets cold since the air draft fills the room so Id take your order to go. Really terrible customer service. While the woman working the cash register was very nice, she and everyone else in the place gets jerked around by the owner or cook. If you're there, you'll spot him. Cocky guy acting like he runs the place and everyone in it. Don't be fooled if he acts and responds like he's listening -- he's not. My order was very simple: NOT a gyro plate. Just gyro, hummus, and rice. I told this to the gal at the register. The cocky guy butted in saying, 'just ring it up as a gyro plate - I got you.' Over 30 (that's right THIRTY) minutes later they called our number, we picked up the food, and discovered a ton of white sauce on the food and little to no hummus. Obviously we brought our order to the counter saying we didn't get what we ordered. They said all we were doing was complaining (yes - that's correct because they didn't prepare our food as ordered). We asked them to remake our order and the a-hole guy said no and reached into the register, pulled out $15 in cash, and slammed it on the counter in front of us. For reference, we payed nearly $20. Who doesn't love losing money on a meal they can't eat, waiting half an hour for it, and then getting treated like poo on top of it all? BYE. read more

It was better than last time, more tender, fat was trimmed a bit more and what fat was on the leg melted right into the rice and salad. The chicken was unbelievably fall off the bone with amazingly complex flavors across every plate component. From bay leaves to cinnamon sticks, the care of nailing Moroccan flavors was clear.
