Zaalouk - eggplant, tomatoes, parsley 5/5
Steph C.

Needed a quick lunch while attending a talk and stopped by this place for pickup. The space has plenty of indoor seating if you want to dine in. I ordered the Zaalouk (eggplant, tomato and parsley) app and it came in a generous portion. It tasted like home cooking and I was satisfied to be able to savor a great meal while on the go. Staff were kind and efficient. I'd be back if I visit again.

Falafel Sandwich with Mango Lassi Yogurt Drink

Very solid falafel sandwich. Ingredients seemed quite fresh and the sauce was tasty. The server was friendly and helpful with our questions. It's a small place with bright colors and little tables to eat at. Very much fast casual for a quiet lunch or late night snack.

For a place that seems like it should just be a run of the mill shawarma place that drunken revelers in the Pike and Pine section of Cap Hill go to sober up when the bars close, the food at Casablanca Express is shockingly good! Specializing in Moroccan dishes, they do have your other staple, Mediterranean/middle eastern staples (hummus, shawarma, Falafel etc). My usual go-to items: Bakkoula: I love this realtively healthy side dish of steamed spinach with lemon and spices. Nice sour contrast to all the heavier main meal options. Lamb broth: holy crap this is good! Lots of cinnamon and other savory warm spices and chickpeas. It's a smallish serving, but it Comes with a bit of pita bread. It's so good when it is cold outside! Lamb shank: fall off the bone tender! Also comes with Lamb broth on the side with some hummus and small side salad. For $18 it's actually quite a lot of food. Harissa chicken: 1/4 bone in chicken covered in harissa spices. Perfectly cooked, succulent. It looks like it might be very spicy, but it it's not. lots of great flavor! Given its location, it really gives off a more fast food vibe so it's not a sit down experience. most of the traffic in and out of there is to go orders. When you are there later at night, expect it to be packed with the bar/club crowds, so I tend to go before the night time rush when it is virtually empty. I also appreciate their spotless bathroom, which you can only access if the shopkeeper buzzes you in. Quick, convenient, and delicious place to hit when you are in the Pike and Pine corridor.

Lamb Shank Roast Plate

Both the lamb plate and chapchouka were bland. However the hummus was soo delicious. I had to add salt and pepper to the lamb plate. Had I known it was gonna be this bland, I wouldn't have driven to get food there. I would just order a hummus dish next time. Prolly the best hummus I've had.

I had a lot of food cravings during the night and decided to walk around Capitol Hill before I landed on Casablanca Express. It has been a while since I had eaten Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food, so the thought of being able to eat it again had me excited. This place is considered "Fast-Casual", ordering and picking up your food at the counter. The inside is a little outdated, but you're not here for a special dine-in experience after all. I ordered their Gyro Plate that comes with the typical gyro meat, basmati rice, a small salad, and a side of hummus and pita bread. The presentation of this dish I found interesting. Most of the food was on top of a paper plate, but then it was also on top of a nice slab of wood that kind of gave it an extra charm. When it came to eating the gyro plate however, it was kind of lack-luster in a lot of ways. The meat was okay but it tasted like it had been sitting out and reheated. I also didn't think there was enough sauce spread out on the food compared to other places that are more generous. Bread and hummus was fine and the salad was okay too. I didn't bother finishing the rice though, it was very bland. If you're just trying to find a place open late at night, this isn't a bad option. However, if you are trying to find some good Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food, then there are surely a lot of better options in the city.

I tried the garlic fries with my friends after a night out clubbing nearby, and they were absolutely amazing! These fries are a must-try--packed with bold garlic flavor and incredibly satisfying. They're a great deal, too! Perfect late-night comfort food.

Wasn't a fan of the chicken Gyro. Very strong seasoning overpowers the entire thing!

I arrived in Seattle late and was starving. This place had 4 stars and was offering Gyros and Fries so I assumed you can't go wrong with that! To my knowledge you CAN mess up a Gyro. Not sure what seasoning or herb they had in the chicken Gyro but it was so potent and strong it overpowered the taste of the Gyro. I didn't even finish half of it. The loaded fries were tasty as I finished those completely since the Gyro was no good. If you see this place on Door Dash or Uber Eats, try them out for yourself but be cautious of the Gyros. I've never had a bad Gyro until I had this one!

First visit, quite impressed! This might just be currently the best late night into early morning hr's more casual style, non fast food, real deal offering in the entire Seattle area! Tried two platters: Charmoula chicken plate and the Lam shank roast both where delicious. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and looking forward to next time. New favorite late night into early morning eatery! -St.Rick "Line out the door" and "Car trunk take out" Hobby Pro PS. Best spot for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern style food in Cap Hill. Everything is freshly made, folks are super friendly for service. And the food is DELICIOUS! So much flavor, fairly priced for Cap Hill. Support a small business and eat here. By FAR, way better than other local spots with similar style food in the area (I won't name names).

Lamb Shank Roast Plate

Ordered the lamb shank. The bone in lamb is huge! The rice is flavorful. The salad is fresh and creamy with the cheese and the side - I chose the spinach and it was nice and lemony! Tl;Dr get the lamb shank roast plate. That's it. You are welcome!

Hands down, this is the best Moroccon/Mediterranean food I had in seattle. If you are looking for a juicy, worth the price meal, this is the place to go. I got Lamb shank roast and my friend got Chicken kebab plate. Both were really amazing. Even the salad and hummus was out of the world. The presentation was nice too. Though the staff was not good at english, he got our order right. The ambience for sure is not that fancy, but you will forget about it with the food that you will get here. must try: Lamb shank roast (You wont regret) :)

From the moment we arrived, the **host and servers were warm, welcoming, and very polished**. The service felt attentive without being intrusive, and the staff did a nice job keeping the evening moving at a relaxed pace. The Royal Feast included several dishes that were brought out over the course of the evening. We started with **cinnamon pastries**, which were warm and a nice way to begin the meal. The spread also included **couscous, rice, chicken with lemon, Italian-style chicken, lamb, and kebabs**. The portions were generous and worked well for sharing with a large group. One thing to note: **vegetarians don't have many options here**, so if someone in your group has dietary restrictions, it might be a bit limiting. The meal ended with **tea**, which was a pleasant way to wrap up the dinner. Part of the experience here is the **belly dance performance**, but it doesn't start until **after 6:30 pm**. If you're expecting dancing throughout the dinner, you might be disappointed. The performance itself was okay, but the dancer mostly performs in the center area rather than around the tables, so it feels a bit distant. Personally, I've seen more engaging belly dance performances elsewhere. Parking is something to plan ahead for. The restaurant **does not have its own parking lot**, so you'll need to rely on **Seattle street parking, nearby garages, or paid lots**. Like many parts of the city, you may also see a few tents from unhoused residents while walking to the restaurant. If you're familiar with Seattle, this isn't unusual. Overall, the experience was **fun for a group dinner and worth the price**, especially if you're looking for something a bit different with entertainment included. That said, the food and performance were **good but not quite top-tier**. Still, it made for an enjoyable evening with friends.

Highlights for me was that lamb tagine with a huge portion of lamb and the chicken tagine with lemon and olives. The flavors were really fresh and pleasant, though a pinch of salt could take them to the next level. There were very unique elements of Moroccan culture here, with the basin hand washing and giant metal vase of bread. We unfortunately didn't catch the belly dancer this time but has a really nice family meal here. The waiters were so friendly and quippy. Really enjoyed this unique experience.

Well balanced flavors, and rich texture, and a fun cocktail selection as a plus My favorites: - zaalouk: Smokey eggplant with nicely minced garlic for extra flavor - tortilla espanola: simple authentic Spanish style. Delicious - squid steak: a must-order!!! So tender and thinly sliced squid soaked in nutty and tomato-ish sauce. Full of umami flavor. Loved the zucchini in it too though it's just a side character. Most squid dishes in the states don't get the texture right, hard to chew sometimes, but this one is superior in many ways - lamb brochette: tender and juicy Will definitely come back here bringing family and friends - this place is such a gem and I would highly highly recommend to everyone!!!

My colleaguefriend found this place on Yelp and we Uber there. The area seemed sketchy and probably we would not want to walk around that area alone. The onwer told us he could not give us ticket for the transation due to someone had robbed the establishment recently and took the machine. The decor is very cute, love the lamps and the music is super happy and you feel like dancing there. However, the place is huge and we were only my friend and I, 2 other girls in a corner and a party of 3 at the other extreme of the lounge. Very desolated and I was wondering why there were not many people. Since I am not a hookah smoker was wondering if it is because of the quality of it or just because the area or just simply people don't go out Friday night. My friend ordered a frutal flavored hookah and explained the whole process to me and why now is fashionable to add something to make if cold. We ordered a tea pot to share and that was really nice. The owner was pleasant and attentive to our request to put Egyptian videos. We had a good night there.

Also, the hookah was wonderful, and the gentleman who was working came over periodically to check on and/or replace our coals. He also offered to change the music to whatever we wanted. Very kind! When my friend and I went the other week, we were the only 2 in there. I deducted one star only because we really wanted to sit at the purple couched, but they were reserved (even though there was nobody else there). But hey, maybe next time! Heads up - if you're not a member, there's an extra fee. Unfortunately I can't remember how much the fee was, and I wasn't told how much the membership price costs.

As other reviews state, this is kind of a strange restaurant that seems more like it's for regulars rather than new customers. There's no actual printed menu other than hints of a menu on the signboard above the register (and we confirmed this with the cashier). I guess this is to save on cost, which coincidentally also allows them to adjust pricing on the fly? There are photos posted of the menu from 2024, but my guess is those are of an old pre-COVID menu, given that the prices increased over 50% at this point. Per other reviews, dine-in orders are also packaged in takeout boxes and can take a variable amount of time to cook. We don't usually get takeout much, but decided to call in an order for this visit. This was at around 5PM on Saturday and we were promised a 30 minute wait. We arrived 30 minutes later, paid for the order, and it ended up taking about another 10 minutes. Not too bad. Benechin Beef ($18.99) - As I learned, benechin is essentially a different term for the more commonly known (at least in the US) jollof rice. In this case, the rice has a deep tomato and spiced umami that combines a pleasant saltiness with a heat level that builds and builds. It's topped with a small side of cabbage that seems to be stewed in the same spices as the rice. There's then a piece of yucca root, stewed but still rather toothsome with fiber strands all in one direction like muscle grains. For the beef, they include four pieces of thinly sliced barbecued meat. The meat is extremely flavorful with what seems to be a black pepper and allium based spice mixture. In terms of texture, it's quite tough and chewy, almost to the level of beef jerky. (4/5) Afra Lamb ($20.99) - This dish comes with a choice of rice or salad, not both as the older menu states. We went with the rice which comes in a smaller container and is a long grain rice cooked until perfectly fluffy. It's cooked with salt, which is something that I'm not used to. The larger container includes a mound of bone-in lamb meat doused in a savory and tangy mustard based sauce. The meat is a very interesting mixture of off-cuts, a combination of cross-cut ribs, shanks, lamb chops, and some random other cuts. The lamb is mostly bone in and there are tons of small bone shards all over the meat, making it a bit of a pain to eat. The meat isn't very gamey and all and is much more tender as compared to the beef jerky in the benechin. On top of the lamb, they include mustard infused softened onions and whole quick-charred onion rings, resulting in a still crunchy texture. They include some powdered dried chilis is a small pile hidden under the onions. Be careful - it's starts out smoky like paprika to start and the heat only starts to build after a couple of seconds. (4/5) Bantaba is a great place to try some new food. While it's not the most beginner friendly restaurant, it offers some flavors and dishes that are hard to find around Seattle.
