    Gyro plate (lamb and beef)

    1. I love the free falafel. I thought this was just something they were giving out when they first opened as a grand opening thing, but they did it again when I went this past weekend! 2. Really appreciate a (small) parking lot, makes grabbing food to go much easier. The food here is delicious and the portion sizes are big enough for me to have two meals with it (which I did this past Saturday!), which makes the price quite nice. The staff are friendly. You self order in the front. The gyro meat is yummy, the falafel is great (different in texture than I'm used to, in the best way), their Greek fries were also exactly how I like Mediterranean fries (that different texture fry), and I really like their babaganoush!

Minna is a new restaurant, and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt as they get up to speed, but there were problems. The staff was friendly, and on each visit they provided a felafel on a fork to eat while waiting - the felafels are good, and this is a nice gesture. My first order was over the phone, and it was a frustrating experience - the person who answered the phone had trouble both understanding me and making himself understood - clearly English is not his first language. I'm sure that will improve over time. The restaurant itself is largely focused on takeout orders - although there are some tables and chairs, the atmosphere is stark and unadorned - and most of the chairs were occupied by people waiting for their orders - it was not a place you'd want to sit and eat (though you could). The ordering system in the restaurant is an ultra-modern computer interface with big touch screens and automated payment - clearly somewhere there is someone behind this restaurant with some money - compared to the computer for ordering, the behind the counter setup was minimalist and simple, just the bare bones needed to provide the food. When I walked in and ordered lunch using the computer screen, the order was easy and the receipt was accurate - the gyro was pretty good - the beef/lamb gyro meat was tasty, the pita fresh. There was way too much salad, not enough tahini or tzatziki or whatever ... but on the whole, it was ok. When we ordered dinner by phone, we ordered a felafel plate and a lamb shish kebab plate. The felafel balls were good and flavorful. They were accompanied with hummus, what appeared to be baba ghanoush, along with salad, pita, and a side of tahini. The hummus and baba ghanoush (if that's indeed what it was, perhaps it's something else similar?) were both bland and not very appealing, lacking in garlic or other flavor. There really wasn't enough pita to allow easy consumption of the hummus and baba ghanoush. The salad was pretty standard and bland (though it did include cucumbers) and the tahini could be used either on the felafel or the salad, but the salad didn't have it's own dressing, and neither of us finished our salads. The lamb in the shish kebab plate was flavorful, but of middling quality - some fairly good, some quite chewy. The lamb came with rice, salad, pita, and some tahini on top of the lamb. Without any kind of salad dressing, the salad didn't really work. And then there was the bill. I was given a receipt, which I didn't examine in the restaurant, but it was for someone else's dinner, a different order entirely. When I added up the costs of the food I ordered (and got) based on their menu on-line, the lamb kebab plate was $17.50, the felafel plate $13.00. That's a subtotal of $30.50 + 10.35% sales tax, would make it $33.66. I did leave a standard tip (as I recall, the choices on the payment screen were 18%, 20% and 22%?, but I could be wrong). Since my usual tip is 20%, and they take the percentage of the pre-tax amount, that would have been $6.10. That would have been a total of $39.76. But the charge that appeared on my credit card was $42.36. And not only was the amount wrong, but it didn't match the receipt I was given that was for someone else's food either. Do you get a pattern here? Despite their fancy computer system, they didn't charge me for what I ordered and got, totally an amateur operation in that regard, including getting the wrong receipt, and the wrong total charge. So sadly, as much as I wanted to like this new startup restaurant, I was disappointed. After two visits with similar experiences, I won't be going back. They will probably work the kinks out over time, and I want to support a small business getting started, but it's hard to recommend a place with so many issues - I hope they up their game soon.

Great service; our food was full of flavor and the portions were great size. We felt welcomed and the staff paid great attention to our group. Lots of choice and they even have ice cream!

Incredibly delicious! For sure the best falafel I have had in Seattle. The shwarma and baklava was also amazing. Highly recommend.

This…read morewas exciting to me as I enjoy food from the Middle Eastern part of the world, and the entrees do look very enticing! We went on a Saturday around 2pm and it wasn't too busy at the takeout window. The restaurant is only takeout - there are benches right next to the takeout window, but there are only enough spots for 8 - 12 people (2-3 people per bench). The only other seating is at the nearby street seating offered by the neighboring bars, which I can see being restricted during peak hours. Parking can be very difficult if you plan on driving, there is only street side parking that is usually full, and nearby paid parking in lots. Service is fast, after we got our order, we only waited 5-8 minutes for our food. We got their recommended Soujouk (Beef) and Cheese Wrap for $16. The wrap is long, I would say about 13 - 14 inches long, and I can definitely seeing most people getting full after enjoying one of these. The flavors are nice and you can taste the spices from the sausage - I could taste cinnamon front and center with other earthy spices lingering in an aftertaste. The wrap is very decadent, the cheese is hearty and indulgent and that with the spiced sausage and textural difference with the cucumbers is pleasing. Do note with how indulgent this wrap is, you will accumulate a ton of oil in your wrapper as you enjoy it - a nap afterwards is in your future if you eat a whole wrap! I think that Yalla Seattle is a good stop to try these cuisines in a casual manner and the price is reasonable. There are some other items on the menu that kept my attention and I would totally revisit to try the other items offered by this restaurant.

Yalla is a walk up window, and there are just a couple of benches right outside where you can eat, and according to other reviews you can also go to Montana Bar next door with your food. The menu is posted in a couple places right next to the ordering window, and it's pretty easy to parse. Almost everything there is what I'd consider a "portable food", meaning something you don't need a plate, fork, and knife to eat, which makes sense given that it's not a sit down restaurant. They have veggie saj, meaty saj, mezze, a few sides, and a dessert. I really like their concise menu. We tried the baba ghanoush ($9.5), which comes with saj on the side, a batinjan and labneh saj wrap ($12), and a halloumi grilled cheese (halloumi grilled inside saj, $13). As you can tell, the saj underpins everything at Yalla, and their saj is excellent. Warm, soft, flaky, and tearable, it is perfect for both dipping and wrapping and grilling. The batinjan and labneh wrap is bursting (literally) with tender grilled eggplant, a rich sauce, and tangy, creamy labneh. It is truly one of the most delicious eggplant dishes I've ever had. The halloumi grilled cheese definitely hits the spot, and is more filling than you think by looking at it. Baba ghanoush is so smooth and flavorful, and I love the pomegranate seeds on top! The folks who work there are super nice, very friendly, and food comes out quickly. Prices are very reasonable, and I will definitely be back to try some of their meaty saj! This place is going into my regular rotation, for sure.

However after we expressed that we didn't want to wait that long, we were told that if we wanted outdoor seating they could actually seat us in less than half an hour. We chose the outdoor seating option and took a quick stroll in the quiet neighborhood before coming back. Our server told us that Homer's plates are meant to be family style and shared so their general recommendation is 1 large plate or 2 small plates per person. For us, we ordered the Set of top 3 spreads, lamb ragu on tahini and we were served with 5 pieces of warm pita. We also ordered Grilled Pork with Stinging nettles, raw albacore tuna with taramasalata, and smoked and shaved kohlrabi. Our server warned us that the pork was going to be on the fatty side but we were still surprised by how fatty it was. The spreads for the pita were amazing as usual-- their seasonal flavors taste amazingly fresh. Our table wanted to order more pita and when someone came by to take the empty plate they asked if we wanted more which we did let them know but even by the time we finished all the plates, we never got the additional pita so we just took it off. The Kohlrabi was an amazingly refreshing palette cleanser before the pork-- super light and refreshing. After we finished our meal we grabbed some soft serve from the window and wow, for 7$ it's quite a lot of ice cream! The flavors that were offered when we were there was Dark Chocolate and Kettlekorn. I sampled the swirl and the fusion of the saltiness of the kettle korn, the slight bitter and sweetness of the dark chocolate was immaculate. Final thoughts: very cool experience, inside I could see the open kitchen and the stone wood fired oven and the ingredients tasted amazing. However it is a little inconvenient that it's walk in unless you're a party of 6 since the lines and wait can get incredibly long. It's also difficult to find parking in the area. Very neat experience!

We shared a number of dishes and two bottles of wine. We started with the Hummus bil Lahm ou Snobar, my favorite dish of the evening a hummus with bubbling spiced lamb. Baba Ghanouj, Bisara Munir, Arnabeet, Alhalaioun and the chicken and beef Shish Taouk. Everything was delicious. Flavorful, the proteins were cooked perfectly nice and tender.
