Honestly, wonderful! price: ~$30/person after tip and tax recs: cilantro beef, chongqing noodles notes: gratuity is automatically included for dine-in customers Came here after a long run and felt so taken care of. The free hot tea was delicious and comforting, and service was super attentive and speedy. - Chongqing Noodles: Slightly numbing but not terribly spicy or painful. I absolutely loved this dish. We ordered this with normal round noodles, but you also have the option of ordering with wide hand-pulled noodles. - Cilantro Beef: Ordered this by rec of many other Yelp reviews. The beef was perfectly tender, and the celery and cilantro offered a crisp and fresh textural contrast. The restaurant seemed more flooded with takeout orders compared to dine-in customers. They totally deserve more foot traffic! I would totally come back to try their other famous dishes, like the boiled fish in chili oil or the smork (lol).

Amazing food! Had the mouth numbing ants climbing a tree, the classic smork (smoked pork) a fried rice, and a hometown favorite thousand year egg with jalapeño! Holy moly! This place lives up to its name! So much flavor. Such tasty dishes! You HAVE to try for yourself! Must try, I can't wait to go back again.

Our friends love this place and we finally got a chance to try it with them. We went on a weekend for lunch and parking is insane! Plan ahead! There was no wait for a seat at the restaurant itself. Service was quick and friendly. Everything we ordered was delicious. The stand out was the spicy boiled fish fillets! The eggplant had a nice flavorful sauce. The fried intestines were fried to crispy perfection. Overall a delicious meal!

My wife and I were in the area. Visiting from So Cal. She found this place online, told me it was rated a Michelin star. To be clear, this restaurant is "Michelin Recommended" (not Michelin 1 Star) as some websites and reviewers state. But... It doesn't matter at all! Wonderful has amazing food, which you must try! We had the Smork with tofu (fried pork with tofu) and the beef with scallions. Also had their version of bread, which you MUST try. The food quality and preparation is so good, at a great price given all the inflation going around. Plus, the lady who served us was a sweetheart. I can understand why this places normally has a line out the door!

Sunday dinner, not much of a wait. Hunan menu items, ordered cauliflower smork iron smork ($25), eggplant string bean ($17), and Dan Dan with wide noodles ($18). Automatic 18% gratuity regardless of party size. The pieces of smork (aged pork) were small. Wished the iron pot had more meat pieces or thicker pieces. The eggplant green bean needs more flavor, definitely needs sauce, and it not spicy, at least the veggies tasted fresh. Dan Dan noodles were simple, it has a kick to it, but nothing stood out. The interior was cool, has an open kitchen if you sit on the one side. Overall, it was okay, a few unique dishes, but food can be tastier

Wonderful is serving traditional Chinese food with recognition from Michelin Guide for its smork (smoked pork) belly bacon dishes, Godfather noodles, and whole chili-braised fish. AMBIANCE Cozy and elaborate with traditional decor and beautiful wood seating SERVICE Staff was attentive and welcoming from seating, complimentary tea & refills, orders, and the bill (card only, and no tips accepted). FOOD 4.5/5 Smork with Smoked Tofu 香干腊肉 A spicy dish with smoked pork that's made in-house and from scratch from a traditional Hunan recipe. 4/5 Family Tofu without Pork 家常豆腐 Savory dish, not spicy - one for the vegans PARKING Metered Street-side RETURN? My next visit needs to be with a group or I go in very hungry to try the SF chronicle award winning Steamed Sole, Tofu, and Chili.

Delicious, delicious Chinese food! We went on a weekend night and didn't have to wait long before being seated. We ordered three dishes and all of them were super delicious. The service was amazing and the decor was beautiful, inspired by traditional Chinese woodwork. Food: - Smork (smoked pork) with bamboo shoots: 5/5. MUST GET! The smork was the highlight of the dish. You can taste the smokiness in the pork and it was very well cured. The bamboo shoots were a good complement to the dish, but I feel like it was too much bamboo shoots. - Potstickers: 4/5. The pork potstickers were juicy and packed with fillings. It's pretty standard and the way I like it. - Stir-fry green beans and eggplants: 5/5. I love how tender soft the eggplants are. The green beans are fried well. The garlic sauce gave it a umami touch. The dish worked very well together.

I was underwhelmed about the food at Wonderful. We tried the "smork" with pickled beans. The dish smelled amazing and the beans were unique and flavorful. They were the best part of the dish. The smork, their speciality, smoked pork was not very good. They were put into the dish as little slices and most of them were this crunchy chewy texture that you get when you eat cartilage. The meat part was very small and I'm not sure if I was eating fat or something else. It was hard to enjoy and really get the flavor of the smoked pork. I would not recommend the smork. The green onion pancakes were not pancakes at all. It was this thick, doughy pile of layered dough, similar to 5-6 or pieces of naan stacked up (I didn't look at the pictures beforehand). It was not crispy and had NO flavor. It was a huge let down. The minced meat they serve with it was flavorful but I ended up mixing it with the pickled beans. We ordered some broccoli with garlic sauce and the flavor was nice and it wasn't in a thick goopy sauce but it was slightly overcooked and soggy. Service as okay; there were only two people working and it was a little busy. Also, they automatically add the gratuity which for party less than six was unexpected and increased my underwhelming experience. I'd like to give this place another try but not sure they have enough good unique food that makes it worth trying again.

Solid Chinese food and clean bathrooms. The soups are especially big in portion and tasty. Service was fast and the environment of this restaurant is pretty nice as well.

It was wonderful indeed! There are already a ton of reviews, but the food was good! The noodles were definitely chewier, so it was worth the extra cost to try. We wanted to try a whole bunch of other dishes, but maybe next time. Pro tips: They were super busy with lots of tables with only a few people working. Also, the hot tea can be very hot, so you may need to wait a bit first or cool it down.

Smork Fried Rice 腊肉炒饭

My friend and I have been here twice, both times ordering the twice cooked pork and smork fried rice. The service is very quick, I think there is usually just 1 waitress for the whole area. The ambiance is intimate and a smaller setting. The first visit, we were going absolutely crazy over our food. The second visit, the food didn't hit the same way. We weren't sure if it was us or maybe it was a different cook that day. Regardless, I think very highly of wonderful and appreciate the business.

Wonderful truly lives up to its name. We ordered several dishes and enjoyed every one of them. Ants Climbing the Tree was a standout, glass noodles with ground beef that reminded me of japchae but less sweet and more savory, really comforting and well balanced. The Godfather Fried Rice was another highlight, hearty, flavorful, and absolutely worth ordering. We also loved the eggplant and string bean dish, and the cilantro beef was excellent, easily one of the best dishes on the table. This is the kind of place where the food makes the decision easy because you'd happily order the same dishes again. The ambiance is casual and family friendly, not fancy or romantic, but comfortable and welcoming. Service was great, our server was patient and helpful, even though we ultimately ordered based on what we saw on Yelp. One small downside was the service charge. The menu mentioned no tipping, yet a service charge was added, which was a bit confusing since I usually tip around 18 percent anyway. Still, the food and service were strong overall. Highly recommend the Ants Climbing the Tree, Godfather Fried Rice, eggplant and string beans, and especially the cilantro beef.

This restaurant came up when I searched for low-sodium restaurants. Are there low-sodium options on the menu?

When you place your order, you can personalize your preferred sodium level by telling the waiters/waitresses. I always ask for low sodium and low oil for my dishes here.

Do they still have Lunch Special menu?

We have discontinued our 'lunch special' menu, and have incorporated these dishes into our single unified menu for lunch and dinner.

Am I able to order the green onion pancake to go?

Of course! They'll gladly do it for you.

Gluten free option available?

We are able to make dishes gluten-free but we strongly warn customers that such a modification will significantly change the overall taste of the dish and may ruin your experience.

Same menu for lunch and dinner!

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Unlike your typical Chinese Restaurant, this place specializes in Northern China style cuisine, so some of the dining experience may feel reversed. For example, they have a mince noodle that is served cold, but a Tofu Skin that is served hot. The English description are a bit off and they have a variety of frozen buns and other food you can buy to-go (they don't serve the buns at the restaurant). For the less adventurous, their spicy tofu, Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken (breaded and fried crispy) and a dry noodle are good starting point, and for vegetables, their stir fry green beans is good (but best served with some rice). Overall, this place is not bad, but wish their menu was more accurate in the description/content to meet customer's expectations.

Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice - Fragrant but oily and plenty of flavor. BBQ Pork & Egg Cheong Fun - Soft sheets of rice noodle roll with a generous amount of ingredients. Hargow - Very good with big shrimp and a sesame oil flavor. Shumai - Soft thin skin withmore seafood than pork taste. Chiu Chow dumpling & Beancurd roll were ok but had fresh ingredients. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too.
