We walked into this old building on the Main Street of Burlingame. It is an old fashioned Main Street with lots of restaurants. We were immediately greeted by our server Eric, who was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations were spot on! We loved all three dishes. My mom and I are obsessed with this place. I dream about their tea leaf salad and I've tried a variety of their dishes. The garlic noodles with crispy tofu, Singapore style curry noodles and the chicken lettuce cups are all standouts. I've also had their stuffed chicken wings. Every time I'm back home in Burlingame I make sure to go. The service is efficient and the servers are funny. The ambiance is nice. Feels like a typical Asian restaurant in the Bay Area. I spent my Christmas evening here and my server Eric was very welcoming. I ordered the Singapore noodle, crispy wing, and hot tea. The noodles were ready within 5 minutes or so. It was delicious! It has bbq pork, shrimp, eggs. It had a very complex profile with hints of curry. My server offered me hot sauce to go with it which turns out to be their red bean paste. It was delicious and elevated it even more!!! I highly recommend asking for it with any meal you may get here. Then I ended with crispy wings. It has a sweet and tangy glaze over. Takeout order - mostly was excited for the pumpkin curry which was good. The three star rating is because some dishes were great and others were lacking to all around it was a mid-level experience. Pumpkin Curry: 4 stars - dark meat chicken, good portion of protein, nice al al dente pumpkin/squash and overall good flavor. Eggplant Garlic: 5 stars - we got two...mild and medium spicy. Medium spicy is spicy, and mild was good (little kick). The eggplant was mushy but the sauce was a bit tart and a bit different than what we are accustomed to at other restaurants. This dish was very pleasant. Walnut Shrimp: 4 stars - I appreciate this dish was not overly breaded (possibly not at all) Sesame Orange Chicken: 1 star - mostly breading/flour, lacking flavor, tasted a bit like sweet deep fried funnel cake bites Tea Leaf Salad: 3 stars - we couldn't pin point it but something was different about the tea leaf dressing. Overall, this dish was just ok. My business partner and I were in town for just a few hours before catching flight out of SFO. We had so many choices to pick from and badly wanted Chinese, but close to the airport too. So we arrived at 8 and they closed at 9 on a weeknight. It's a quaint little restaurant with about 10-15 tables. There was only one other table occupied when we got there. So it was looking promising. Ehhh that's where I should have left. The one female staff member did not seem to happy that we were there. She was somewhat standoffish and not very friendly. Now I'm a little bit of a Chinese food snob. After a visit to Chinatown I'm very picky. I live in Fort Worth, Texas and there's only two Chinese restaurants in the 8 million population metroplex that I'll eat at. So we both order the sesame orange chicken. My go to is just sesame chicken but they didn't have that. No fried rice option either??!!! So we both chose to split Jasmin rice. The food came out in 15 minutes and looked good. The broccoli had no flavor and was undercooked and warm. Sorry but the sesame chicken was under impressive. I ate it but just wasn't great. It didn't taste bad though. Too much breading and the chicken was very small pieces once you got to it. I gave them 3 instead of 2 because the food wasn't bad. Just very underwhelmed! read more

We came here after an airport run. We got here about 8:30 and they close at 9:00, but they welcomed us and assured us there was time to make us anything we would like from the menu. Needless to say, the service and ambiance was warm and welcoming. We chose this place because it was highly rated on Yelp. For a small restaurant, the menu was quite extensive with lots of interesting dishes to choose from. I wish I had been more hungry because everything on the menu seemed so interesting and delicious to order but we only wanted a light meal since we had just come from the airport. We got their signature tea leaf salad which is one of the best ones I have had! The freshly grated cabbages, fermented tea leaves, fried garlic, peanuts, sesame and sunflower seeds and whatever their dressing was, was so refreshing and crunchy. As soon as I walked in I was reminded why this restaurant was so memorable. The food is very tasty. The vegetable dish was packed with spices that enhanced the flavor of the veggies. The garlic noodles were perfectly cooked and also tasty. The ingredients were of good quality which really made the dishes pop. The service was excellent! From the greeter to the servers and all other personnel all had smiles and willing to help in whatever way they could. It was bustling with customers which is always a good sign. Yangon is so good! I was looking for more restaurants to try out in the Broadway, Burlingame area and I saw all the positive reviews for this family owned restaurant so I had to try it out. I enjoy Burmese/Chinese food a lot so I was excited and I can see why people like this spot. The owners are very friendly and provide great service and the inside is also very comfortable. They have a lunch special menu that they serve from 11:30am - 3pm on weekdays. They consist of a main entreee with a mango salad and rice (if it's not a noodle dish). It costs $15.50 in total for the lunch special which is nice value for the amount of food you get. What my table and I ordered: - Cashew Chicken - Singapore Noodles Starting off with the mango salad, the lunch special variation is smaller than normal, but it was still pretty refreshing and all the ingredients you could tell are fresh. I got myself the Cashew Chicken and it was really good. The cashews add a nice crunch. The zucchini was cooked perfectly and not bitter at all. The chicken was so juicy and moist. It just melted in your mouth. I also opted for the coconut rice for a slight extra charge and it is worth it because that little bit of sweetness of the rice helps balance out the savory flavors. The Singapore Noodles here I also feel they do it better than a lot of places I have been to. It was savory, but some places make them overly salty. I wish there was a little more shrimp although overall was still a tasty dish. I'd come back here again for sure. read more

Yangon is a great Burmese place. The ambience is nice. The eating utensils are good clean not chipped. Service is also good. Parking is a challenge depend depending on the day and time you go! There are a lot of options for vegetarians. The tea leaf salad the okra and egg curry are fantastic. I think they can be a little generous with the side dish of rice serving. It almost felt like a four-year-old could eat that and asked for more.!! The rice serving as a side dishes poor. That is the one place they can improve in. For the meat eaters at our table: one person ordered a beef dish. One person ordered a salt and pepper fish, and one person ordered a chicken curry with eggplant - I believe all of those were good. Our family went in to Yangon for lunch today and were blown away by how good the food was. Far and away, we think Yangon has the best value for Burmese food in the Peninsula. We ended up ordering the tea leaf salad (4/5), crispy wings (5/5), crab and cheese puffs (5/5), chicken biryani (5/5), mongolian beef (4.5/5) burmese chow fun (5/5), and desert palatha with ice cream (5/5) which the kind owner gave to us on the house. All of the above dishes were amazing and the bill total was $105.46. We have been here twice and it is a mystery of life why this place isn't packed with a line out the door for lunches and dinners. Other Burmese restaurants charge double what Yangon charges and that their food isn't as good. My advice is to enjoy getting a seat while you can. read more

Yangon is a gem of a restaurant. We tried several of the Burmese specialties: mohinga (catfish stew), ginger salad, and chicken biryani. The mohinga was warming and flavorful, a hearty broth with rice noodles, fish, egg, fried wonton strips, and other tasty ingredients. The ginger salad was a showstopper: bold flavors and an incredible variety of textures. If you like ginger, it's a must order! The rice with the chicken biryani was wonderful, spiced with cardamon and cinnamon. The concentrated sauce on the chicken was mouthwatering. I can't wait to try more dishes! Went here last Saturday and the food was delicious. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the restaurant yet it still took a while to get service. We ordered the parata, the potstickers, chicken curry, combination chow fun, and coconut rice. Everything was solid. The parata was something we had never had before and it was very interesting. Tasted almost like a heavier fried croissant. The dipping sauce accompanying it was just as interesting. Very savory. The potstickers were unlike any potstickers I've ever had. It doesn't indicate on the menu what type of potstickers they are, but they are pork, and they are very savory with a lot of umami flavor. The chicken curry was nice. Very simple but satisfying. The chow fun was our favorite dish. Unlike a lot of noodle dishes where it's overloaded with noodles rather than meat and vegetables, It is the opposite at this restaurant. Lots of delicious meats and beautiful vegetables with ribbons of chow fun swirled in the midst. Normally when I go out to eat, I try to avoid Chinese food since that is all I eat at home (ah, the joys of living at home still). We were in a pinch to find something fast so I caved and we went to Yangon. I was able to park about 1 block away along California Drive, so it was a very quick walk to the restaurant. Inside, they only had two tables for dine-in, but the lady lead us to the back where they have patio outdoor seating with heat lamps. They also have something of a tent set-up to keep out the cold, wind and insects. It was super cozy and we pretty much had all that space to ourselves for most of our dinner. After we sat down, she came back with water and menus. Here is what we ordered: 1. Singapore noodle (share) 2. Okra chicken (share) 3. Burmese style fried rice (share) All the dishes came out in less than 15 minutes. The chicken and the okra are juicy! The chicken was a tad spicy but tolerable. The noodles were moist and not dry. The rice was fragrant and it was a different texture with the garbonzo beans in it. The onions and the beans added something of a light crunchy texture which tasted great. Overall, no complaints about any of the food or the service. Might come back to try more of their noodle dishes! read more

We tried out Yangon a week ago. They were getting ready to close, but seated us anyway. The food was delicious, but the star was the Samusa. I have never eaten one so full of flavor, with a crust which was perfectly crunchy and not too oily. I would give Yangon 5 stars, but the decor is very dated, and the chairs are old and covered with stained fabric. It put me off at first, but I'm glad we stayed. Next time I will order food to go next time with extra orders of the Samusa. read more

My sister asked me to look for a restaurant in Burlingame for us to take our father out to lunch at. I found Yangon which serves Burmese and Mandarin Cuisine. A few factors that helped me choose it were: staff wears masks, recent reviews were high, and reviewers said that service was friendly. As luck would have it, there was a parking space right in front of the restaurant. This was very helpful as my father's mobility is limited and walking for him is difficult even with a walker. I went ahead and secured a table in the front by the window facing the street. I had also already looked at the menu. I had intended to get the Pumpkin Chicken Curry, but had to switch to Pumpkin Pork Stew because coconut milk was used in the curry. My sister ordered the curry instead. You can ask your server to adjust the spiciness of the dish. My sister went with not spicy, while I went with mildly spicy. My father wanted the Combination Chow Fun which had a mixture of vegetables and chicken, beef, and shrimp. The server's helper was very good about refilling the glass of water for my sister. We had a good laugh when my sister misheard the additional time needed for the curry and stew which was 15 minutes. She thought she had heard 50 minutes and she had a meeting to get to. The rice seemed like it had been spooned from the bottom of the rice cooker. Our dishes were excellent, however. Poor Dad! His dish came out after ours. My pork stew was very tasty and the meat tender. The kabocha squash were good sized chunks. My sister also enjoyed the kabocha squash in her curry. Her curry was not spicy just as she ordered. Best orange chicken I've had yet!! Wow, the cook of it is so amazing. Be sure to eat it right away for the best texture. When you bite into it, you will notice that the batter is so light and crispy. It's almost as though the outer "skin" is detached from the meat itself, that's how airy it is. The sauce is perfection too. Huge, huge fan. I went for lunch and my meal was part of the lunch specials menu, so it came with a small mango salad and rice. You can upgrade to coconut rice for an extra dollar. I wish the coconut rice was more sticky and moist. It was on the dry side, otherwise the meal was perfect. Comes out to $14.50 before tax and tip.
