I met up with my former coworkers/friends at Dumpling Kitchen & Bar today. Since we live spread out in the Bay Area, we made Burlingame our meeting point. I researched where to go and I thought Dumpling Kitchen & Bar is a good place to go for dumplings. We arrived at different times due to traffic and parking for 12:30 pm reservation. I arrived first and the restaurant was not full. The ambiance is nice. The server Jim was patiently waiting to get our order until the party was complete. Finally the 3rd friend arrived. We were updating ourselves when the server came. For drinks we ordered the Chrysanthemum Tea as he recommended. One friend asked for ice water. We ordered the Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumpling but we told Jim to separate the sauce, Classic Siu Mai, Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Steamed Soup XLB, Chicken Potsticker and Scallion Pancake. The food came one at a time and we started eating. The Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumpling came with the sauce and we told Jim. He forgot and apologized and took the dish. The kitchen made another dumpling with the sauce served separately. That was a nice accommodation. The dumplings were fresh and delicious. The food presentation was great. This time, we came for the xiao long bao, popcorn chicken, braised beef, and pan-fried buns. It wasn't busy at all, we were the only table. Service was friendly, and the dining atmosphere was comfortable. The xiao long bao was the highlight. As you can see in the photos, the wrappers were thin enough to see the flavorful soup inside. Each dumpling was packed with rich broth that you could sip before enjoying the rest. The popcorn chicken was crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the pan-fried buns had a perfectly crispy bottom with a juicy filling. The only letdown was the braised beef. It was much drier than before, and the portion seemed smaller this time. Came here for lunch one weekend as a party of 6. They didn't have enough space inside, so we split the group 4+2 to be seated sooner. There's no other dumpling restaurant on Burlingame Ave I can think of, so I think is a unique offering for the area, which gives them a slight edge. The menu is extensive and there's lots of different dumplings to choose from. Overall, the dumplings were good, but I feel like if they could further edit their dishes then they could be great. Came by after a nearby appointment. The beef noodle soup had a solid, flavorful soup and pretty al dente noodles. Wish the beef came with tendons as well. Add in suan cai and I think it would have been a really strong niu rou mian choice. Still good though and would eat this again. The chongqing noodles packed a little too much heat with my health issues lately, but I thought the it was pretty good from what I could taste. The xiao long bao was surprisingly good. Skin wasn't too soggy, good amount of soup, meat wasn't too fatty. I think they're missing ginger with their vinegar, though. Wagyu dumplings were okay. I'll have to try pork, shrimp and chives next time. All in all, nice to have one Asian option in the sea of Italian here. For drinks, I stuck with water but tried a sip of my friend's Lime Passion Fruit beverage, which was delicious! For food, I was a bit limited as a non-pork eater. I ended up getting the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings and Secret Chicken Wings. The Crystal Shrimp Dumplings were very tasty, and came as an order of 3 pieces. Just average for the 2 dishes I tried. Beef noodle soup - noodle chewiness was pretty good but cannot withstand prolonged time in the soup if you have leftovers. Soup needed more depth of flavor and a hint more salt. I'm not a fan of broccoli or undercooked carrots in the soup. A friend and I decided to try Dumpling Kitchen and Bar since it's a fairly new restaurant in Burlingame. The location is right on corner of busy Burlingame Ave. I think there used to be a Japanese restaurant here before DK&B. On a weeknight around dinner time, the place was about 3/4 full. Immediately upon walking in, I realized this is like no other dumpling place I've been to before. First off, there is a full bar. The lighting fixtures and interior are really trendy and modern. We ordered the steamed soup XLB (8/10), shrimp toast (7/10), pork pan fried buns (9/10) - thanks to the two people next to us who burned their tongues and squirted soup broth on their shirts, we got advanced warning this was going to be a messy and juicy dish!, and Dandan noodles (6/10). Everything was really yummy. Service was wonderful. Our server was really helpful in helping us decide what to order. They also didn't rush us to leave even though we were done with our meal and was just sitting around catching up. We've been here a couple of times now & the dishes worth ordering over & over were the Grapefruit Bacon Asparagus Rolls and Hot & Spicy Dumplings with its mouth-numbing Sichuan sauce. As with all of the dishes we've tried, Har Gow is high quality; loved the plump, flavorful shrimp inside & delicate wrapping. Their Lime Passionfruit sparkling drink is unique & not too sweet. We popped in on a Tuesday evening at about 8pm and it was pretty full. The space is bright with indoor and outdoor seating and a long dumpling bar. Listen up, before this spot, I could say I've never met a dumpling I didn't like. Sadly, after dining here, I now can say I actually met a few dumplings I didn't like. While the dumplings were filled and meaty, the flavor profile of all four sets were off. The spicy shumai were intensely flavored: the pork tasted sour with this spiced heat. One dumpling had a very strong cumin flavor (maybe cumin or some other spice I can't put my finger on) and lastly, the xlb were flavorless. Overall, not my favorite. The food is not bad for the most part, the service was very friendly and attentive, and the little patio with outdoor seating is great on a nice day. The food is generally pretty tasty and I liked that nothing felt too heavy nor greasy. Since we were there for a light lunch, we got the lotus root mix, hot and sour soup, hot and spicy dumplings, and the pork pan fried buns. The only item that was a little bit of a let down was the pan fried buns because the top part was still a bit dough-y like they hadn't been cooked enough. There are a lot of dumplings places now between San Mateo and Millbrae so this might not be my top choice but the menu has several interesting items and it's an option to keep in the rotation. read more

Popcorn chicken: a tad salty, the breading and meat quality wasn't anything to write home about. Overall: pricey, but tasty Good selection of dumplings and dimsum style dishes. Kind of pricey but it's to be expected for its location in downtown Burlingame, plus the modernized interior. Staff were exceptionally friendly but that may be also because my whole family (including my mixed kids) speak Chinese. Portion size is a bit small for prices. For example, the fried mantou I'd expect at least 4 but it came with 3. Popcorn chicken was well seasoned with a bit of a kick. Potstickers had a good crisp, boiled dumpling skins had a good chew and not too thin but not overly doughy. Kids gobbled up the bbq pork buns before I had a taste. Husband really enjoyed the dandan noodles especially because of the great QQ texture of the noodles, and a generous topping of pork. Chili sauce on the table is yummy but not too spicy. They tasted fine but had I not ordered them, I wouldn't have known they were tom yum flavored at all. -Pork potstickers: Pretty average, run of the mill potstickers. -Sichuan spicy dumplings: Again, very very mild on the Sichuan spice. -Pan fried pork dumplings: The highlight of the meal. Crispy in the bottom, pillowy at the top, and full of juices inside. Would definitely recommend this dish. PS--Something I never would've noticed before having kids, but there is no baby changing station in the bathroom (at least the women's). I had to lay my baby across a bar stool pushed against a metal locker cabinet in the bathroom (this was the worker's makeshift solution, not mine) which made for a very small surface. If you're new to eating dumplings, then you may be impressed with Dumpling Kitchen. Our waitress was quite surprised that we ordered so much food but honestly, it wasn't that much, though the total bill was $142.58 Checkout my pics for all 10 items. The spicy dishes were definitely good: I've never had spicy siu mai $11 and I'm thinking traditional dim sum restaurants need to add this version to their menu! Spicy XLBs $12 were perfectly flavored with a juicy filling but you must eat them hot otherwise they won't tasty good -- once the wrapper gets cold, the juice leaks out of them. I wasn't impressed with the popular and more expensive Union XLBs $15. Another good one was the pan fried pork buns $12 -- those come out steaming hot so do be careful when biting into them. Sichuan hot & spicy dumplings $11 had that notable numbing tingling flavor that needs to be drenched in everything in my opinion. Lastly the Dan Dan noodles $16 also had a similar vibe with really good fresh chewy noodles -- perfect leftover to take home for breakfast tomorrow! Be sure to end your meal with the salty egg lava bun $10. These have a gooey filling that's absolutely addicting. Overall this was a good meal. I think the price point is really high for the amount of items and maybe this is considering it's the only dumpling place in Burlingame and XLBs are trending hard right now The nonspicy dumplings $12 were pretty basic and bland so I had to add a lot of chili oil to flavor them. We've been eyeing the spot for a while, but only recently decided to dine in after working out nearby. We ordered the lotus root mix ($8) to start. It came with thinly sliced pieces of lotus roots, as well as some wood ear mushrooms and peanuts sprinkled on top. The sauce was vinegar-based and the dish was light and healthy, not nothing astounding. I also got the stir-fried green beans ($15) which were pretty good, but quite pricey for a small portion. For dumplings, I wanted to try the tomato cheese and mapo tofu (both $12). Each portion was 8 pieces and came boiled. You can opt to have them pan-fried as well. The tomato cheese was surprisingly good and my favorite of the two. It's like an Americanized-dumpling! The mapo tofu was okay, but not as exciting as I had hoped. Service was okay. My boss was in town for meetings and suggested we try the dumpling place down the street from Limon. Ok cool. Wow! Was so good. I try to stay mostly veg so I was thrilled at their extraordinary selection of meatless dumplings and noodle dishes - the Mapo Tofu Dumplings in particular were stellar, and I liked the Scallion Oil Noodles too. I also did try some non-veg fare which was also great. The beautiful red, white and blue XLB combination and especially the Sichuan Spicy Wontons were fantastic. My boss also liked his wonton soup but I skipped that one. I was also struck by the attractive signage and branding which is probably what lured us in. I'll admit I was confused by the name - I hear D&B and think Dun & Bradstreet but maybe that'll help me remember this restaurant. There's a bar, outdoor and indoor seatings and when we went we were able to choose where we wanted to sit since there wasn't much people. The staff is quick to attend to you and make sure your order is taken. The food came out quite fast and was delicious and hot! Thai Tom Yum XLB - 5/10 nothing special, I couldn't taste the tom yum flavor which was a bummer. Steamed XLB - 8/10. Flavorful and love how juicy it was when I bit into it. Hot & Sour Soup - 7/10. We ordered the hot and sour soup (this wasn't bad and probably my favorite dish of the evening), the popcorn chicken (salty AF, i would recommend passing on this), the spicy XLB soup dumplings (not much flavor and really bland), and the beef noodle soup (ok, but nothing to rave about). Prices were really expensive too, but I know that area of Burlingame is on the pricier side in general. This dumpling restaurant was not bad! My boyfriend and I were in the area and we happened to walk past their menu and were intrigued. We were seated within 15 minutes, seating was quite limited as they were packed with groups of all sizes - which was a great sign. Once seated, you can order off their QR code on the table. I will say, the online menu to order off of was a little fickle but we were able to get what we wanted. Onto the actual food: - sichuan spicy wonton: 8/10 the flavor was great and the dumplings were a perfect chewy texture. I do wish it leaned more in the chili/mala flavor rather than vinegar but it was still delicious! - pan fried dumplings (pork): 10/10 soup held up and it was the perfect texture - soft top half and crispy fried bottoms. The interior was hot and flavorful. The broth leans more in the vinegar side just fyi - hot and sour soup: 7/10 nothing special, wasn't spicy enough but still a decent broth! - salted egg custard bun: 10/10 great flavor and soft bun! Loooove this and was so happy to find it in the menu. - cha siu bun: my bf got this and devoured the entire thing, needless to say it hit the spot! Perfectly savory and sweet without being too much. Great ratio of filling to bun. We'll definitely be back to try their other dishes! Happy that Burlingame has a homey yet upscale dumpling restaurant in town. read more

Right at the busy corner, got a few tables of outdoor seating. Wasn't too busy on a Sunday lunch. Seated immediately. Nice large windows for natural lighting. Didn't drink but seemed to have a larger selection of spirits at the bar. Gotta pay for tea here, guess it's preium tea Ordered the original XLB, stir fried string beans, three ingredient dumplings, pan fried dumpling and the Dan Dan noodles. XLB's were good, good skin ration, soup was delicious, not too fatty but still got good flavor. Vinagre is table side and you need to ask for the ginger. String beans came out fast and was pipping hot. A bit on the salty side for me but I tend to like things bland, but it was delicious for the rest of the table. The three ingredients dumplings was decent. I couldn't really tell the three different ingredients, all i could taste was shrimp. Pan fried dumplings were presented really nice. A bit on the smaller side, looked almost bite sized. They also came with molten lava heat on the inside. Be careful since theres no way of being able to bite into them without it exploding and burning ur lips or mouth. I nibbled the top to cool it down. The dan dan noodles were great. Not too spicy, more of a numbing spice. read more

This place is a gem of a dumpling house! We had two orders of the chicken wings, my friend got the wagyu beef dumplings, and I had the seafood dumplings and a miso soup. The service was very quick and the waiters and waitresses were super duper friendly throughout the experience. The dough was the perfect thickness and man was the soup inside with the meat an absolute treat - my girlfriend needs to come next time as she would absolutely love this place! The ambiance was nice with sports playing in the background and you could have a conversation during your mean without the noise from others or the tv drowning the conversation out. The decor was nice and the bar setup is absolutely perfect for seating and enjoying a meal (they have tables as well!). I would 10/10 recommend this place to anyone and as said earlier, I will be back again for a date night with my partner who has never been! read more

I'm always happy to see another dumpling place open up, and I'm so glad we have one right here in downtown Burlingame now! We went there last week on a Monday, and were able to be immediately seated. As soon as we walked in, I appreciated and enjoyed the fun, casual atmosphere (not to mention the Warriors games playing on the televisions!). We ordered the sichuan dan dan noodles, pork pan fried buns, classic siu mai, steamed soup XLB, pan fried vegetarian dumplings, and fried popcorn chicken. Of the lot, our favorites were the pork pan fried buns and the pan fried vegetarian dumplings! The pork pan fried buns had a delicious, juicy interior that literally squirted when you ate it (which our great waiter proudly told us would happen). The popcorn chicken was another standout - excellent flavor and as deliciously crispy as you would hope. The sichuan dan dan noodles were recommended to us, but we were a bit disappointed... the cherry tomato didn't seem to fit the dish, and the flavor just felt a bit off. Everything else we had was tasty and enjoyable! Our servers were very friendly, and the food came quickly. Overall, we had a very nice experience and will certainly be returning here next time we're in the mood for dumpys!! read more
