Reading through the other reviews, I think we got lucky with our visit and I'll take it! We came on a Sunday at 11am (party of 4). I found parking right away and they seated us almost immediately close to the Bay view windows. It was super busy with people waiting outside and inside was loud and lively (just how you want a dim sim place to be)! Inside is pretty nice and the view is honestly worth it. We ordered the dim sum classics: siu mai, ha gow, rice rolls, chicken feet, ma lai go, beef balls, salted egg yolk lava buns. Everything was honestly solid and portions were bigger than I expected. The dim sum menu is also pretty vast, but some classic dishes have different names so always ask the server. We also got some Chinese herb and fermented rice wine soup.....so good and a lot of chicken in it. Total for our party of 4 came out to be $105 (including their 16% service charge). Honestly not bad at all for the food we got (not all pictured), the fast service, and great views. This might be my new dim sum spot on the Peninsula! I went to lunch with colleagues hoping HL Peninsula Pearl would fulfill my desire for tasty dim sum and my experience was mixed. The venue is gorgeous (5/5; high ceilings, chandeliers, amazing views of SFO), the service was mediocre (3/5; our order was taken quickly after we completed writing it. We had to keep asking for things such as knives and bowls but we were accommodated and ultimately one of the dishes they brought out was incorrect despite me telling them they put it in their system wrong...now for the food. We went a bit wild and ordered the following (let's just say we had tons left over): -steamed surf clam w/ vermiccelli in galic sauce (3.5/5; clams tasted decent but I didn't love the texture. clams paired well with noodles and sauce -duo egg fried rice (4/5; my group enjoyed this dish. Large portion) -signature fried rice noodles (4.25/5; good portion and lots of seafood/meat. flavor was good but nothing amazing and quite a good value.) Note, we didn't order this dish but it was beside the dish we ordered on the list/menu and they didn't/couldn't change the order despite letting them know within minutes... -chicken feet in herbal broth (3.75/5; the chicken feet were cooked well and the broth was nice but I was expecting pan fried chicken feet, which i would have preferred. The broth was herbal and comforting) -fried crispy turnip cake in XO sauce (4.5/5; quite nice. crispy and satisfying) -chicken in honey pepper sauce (3/5; sauce left a lot to be desired. Chicken was juicy and cooked well though) -sautéed chinese bocolli (4/5; standard and simple but good) -bbq pork rice noodle rolls (4/5; pretty good. First off, don't get confused with peninsula garden next door. Very similar names, but different restaurants. I've come here for dim sum and banquet dinner, the dim sum is a better experience. I like how this place can accommodate large parties. The service is ok and seems used to serving large groups. DIM SUM- all is good. We ordered everything and anything you could think of and all the food was good. I wouldn't say spectacular but definitely good. We ordered lava buns towards the end of our meal and it took an hour to come out. I don't think it was worth waiting for them, but if you want them just order early. BANQUET- we got a set seafood menu, but I think a la carte could have been better. We added on chow mein and fried rice since it only came with e fu noodles. It was strange, the cold cuts came out last. There weren't many standouts- maybe the steamed flounder? The other table we were with ordered a la carte dishes and their food looked great. Ive been to other HL locations but have not tried this one yet. The space is decent with large windows and a running path outside, which makes it perfect for a morning run followed by dim sum and tea. I came with family and was not planning to eat much, but ended up trying a few things. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Monday morning. Hostess greeted customers with attitude and was completely unprofessional. The unfair treatment in seating guests was obvious, and they seem totally okay with disregarding guests like that. Unfortunately bad service seems to be a consistent issue at HL locations. We were placed at a table that was far too small for our large group. Even the dim sum lady questioned why we didnt have a bigger table, which made the whole setup feel poorly managed. Some of the cups and plates were dirty and had to be sent back, which is frustrating because clean serveware feels like a very basic priority for a restaurant. Sitting by the window is also quite chilly, but you do get a nice view of the water and planes taking off from sfo. I enjoyed the purple fried shrimp rolls and skip anything with the salted egg yolk batter. The menu had unique items that I havent seen at other places, including wine chicken which is hard to find at home. I enjoyed the variety and seeing new dishes beyond the usual dim sum classics, even though I didnt get to try everything. We decided to come here because we had good experiences previously, but this time was a super disappointed experience for all of us. First of all, food quality. One of the go-to dim sum spots in the Bay Area with classic Cantonese dishes and great for family meals! Food was plated beautifully and was hot and fresh. My favorite was the oysters - tender flesh, not fishy at all, paired well with the sauce and green onions. I also really liked the dumplings covered with pumpkin puree sauce as it was such a unique combination of sweetness and savory that wasn't too overpowering on either flavor. My family and I went on a Monday afternoon and got seated fairly quickly. They are very efficient with seating. You get a number and must respond when called, otherwise your spot will be given to others. Food came out fast and servers move quickly. The location is also amazing, with stunning coastal views. The dishes were all tasty and we had a good time eating the great dishes, and catching up on family news. Over ordering fresh food can break a restaurant's bottom line. I tend to agree with the cook staff that running out of ingredients is better than over buying and not getting enough orders. Since the restaurant is a very large square footage, it probably costs a lot in rent, plus you have to pay the premium for the chefs to keep them on board. I'm from Los Angeles, and restaurants go in and out of business in the 626 area all of the time, so I know how hard it must be to keep up the quality and quantity of food balanced with the total cost of running the restaurant. You need to keep an open perspective on these things. The food quality of our dishes was excellent, we enjoyed the meal thoroughly and didn't have much leftovers to take home. I believe there was a wedding that Saturday evening so I see why they were rushing us to pay and eat. Food is delicious and came out so fast. Some of the servers looked mad at us when we just asked for water and forks? They only gave us Jasmine tea but it took awhile for them to get our table water. For the ambiance, views, and quality of food, I feel like the value here is top notch. It was a lot of fun to see the planes taking off and landing from SFO right as we enjoyed our meal. Would recommend going on the early side-arrived around 10am on a weekend and we got lucky and got the last table by the windows. Some of the dishes felt a bit small, like the roast pork, but the plating was very well done. I really enjoyed the siu mai here, and also tried the bean curd rolls, green onion pancakes, soy sauce noodles, salt and pepper tofu, shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, and sesame balls. This is my 2nd time I dined at the Pearl restaurant today. I recommended to my former colleagues and also retired now to eat at this restaurant as we want to meet halfway. We live at different places in SF and Peninsula. They have ample parking. We did not have any reservation as we are just a party of 4. We got the table. No tables by the window as it was full already. The dining room was huge with very nice chandeliers. We can see the planes landing & taking off. We did not order any tea to drink just cold water and hot water with sliced of lemon. We ordered Siu Mai, Steamed Dried Scallop & Shrimp W/ Vegetable Dumplings, Sautee Chinese Broccoli In Ginger Sauce, Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls, Chow Fun Noodles & Spring Rolls with vegetables. We asked the server about tofu how it was cooked if fried or steamed. He cannot described it and finally said it was fresh with soy sauce. The dishes arrived one at a time and hot. I came here for Tuesday dinner around 6 pm and was able to get seated promptly for my party of 3. I wanted a table by the window, but they were all reserved for large 10 person parties. The standard menu is two pages, and there's also an additional printed menu + receipt with what I assume are the seasonal/daily dishes. It took us forever to decide what to order as some of the dishes we typically order aren't on the menu here. We ordered 4 dishes for the 3 of us as I wanted to try more dishes and have plenty of leftovers for the rest of the week. We tried (* marks my favorites): Dried oyster, roast pork, and seafood clay pot ($28) * House famous abalone, fresh crab meat, and silky tofu ($46) * Sauteed dice beef tenderloin ($24) Custom chicken noodle dish ($24) The abalone and crab meat clay pot felt very luxurious with fish maw, giant scallops, and abalone. I really liked the sauce as well for this clay pot. The other clay pot we ordered with oyster and roast pork felt a bit repetitive with the abalone clay pot as the both flavors were on the lighter side and both seafood based, but it was good. The beef was very flavorful. The leftovers tasted amazing over rice. I only ate a couple bites of the chicken noodle dish, but I thought it was solid as well. We ended dinner with complimentary black sesame paste, which was SO good. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant served this instead of the standard sweet red bean soup. This place gets super busy on Sundays. We had a party of 7 that arrived around 1245PM and it took about 45 minutes to get seated. Luckily there was a walking trail by the peninsula that you are able to walk on and kill time. It's not your typical cart dim sum- They provide a menu and you put the quantity of each item you would like. They have a lot of items! We got the typical dim sum choices, Har Gow, Siu Mai, Chinese Broccoli, Beef Chow Fun, Soup Dumplings, and their huge sesame balls! We also tried their tripe and chicken feet which was good. They didn't have the deep fried shrimp ball which is what we usually like to add-on. They also don't put the chili oil on the table so we had to keep asking for more and the servers looked a bit annoyed we kept asking... sorry, we enjoy chili oil lol. And it wasn't even chili oil, it was more of a chili paste that they have. I enjoyed the food. You also get a nice view of the peninsula and you get to see the planes from SFO take off. If it gets crowded you can drop off people at the entrance and park in a spot farther away. Maybe closer to their HL Peninsula Garden location since the two lots connect. We had a private room with ocean/airplane views. They let you serve your own tea and wine if desired. I really enjoyed the wedding banquet food. (I think we had banquet menu B.) It was a bit slow starting out and the food didn't come out in the exact order listed. There was a bit of a wait between the petite four starters and the rest of the food. Maybe it was intentional to allow time for people arriving late. Standouts were the Chilean sea bass and the suckling pig. There were a lot of dishes with seafood. Me and my family came last Sunday morning during their opening hours. After 30 mins or so, the place started to get packed up! Arrive early to get a seat. I've been to plenty of dim sum restaurants and they each have their own type of way of doing things. I noticed there weren't that many employees on the floor to do refills, calls, orders, etc. There were more of those servers than there were 'Leads' if that's what they call it. It took some time to get some of our requests done. We ordered the typical spread: Siu Mai, pork ribs in black bean sauce, soy sauce chow mein, shrimp and pork chive dumplings, shrimp noodle rolls, and baked bbq buns. Each were all pretty good in taste and portion size. I truly didn't think anything was special or out of the ordinary; they were all pretty simple. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our meal and had a nice time looking at the ocean view and sightseeing around the restaurant. They don't automatically give soy sauce and chili oil so make sure to request these. Their chili oil wasn't my favorite type, but it'll do. They also don't have hot mustard which is a bummer. I would like to say though, their high-chairs for toddlers are awesome! It's literally a mini chair seat with a sturdy buckle; It's comfy and awesome. Overall, this dim sum restaurant is a good one and pretty fancy I should say. Service was very good. We returned later that weekend for dim sum. I had made a reservation by phone for 4 tables and left a CC deposit. If you make one, make it for their early time like 10am (they open at 9:30 I think). You have the tables for 2 hours. They don't have cart service so you check if off on a menu. We had an 11am reservation (which I would say is late but we had family driving over an hour away) and although our party was on time, we waited for tables to clear because we were such a large party. Once we settled in, we ordered our dim sum dishes and they were very good. We were able to try some dishes that we haven't had in NY. There is parking lot which is shared with their sister restaurant next door (a good size lot but extremely busy). The restaurant has views of the bay and we can watch planes land which was cool. Service was friendly and efficient. I was impressed with front desk, run like a well oiled machine managing flow and tables. We'll have to make another visit next time we're in town! read more

We tried a variety of dishes but I felt none of it was super memorable or flavorful. They also don't give chili unless you ask and even then they seem stingy with it. Got a large takeout order. DIdn't start well when the hot mustard top wasn't closed tightly and spilled mustard over most of the other containers. But it got worse when we started to eat the food. Sugar taste with everything. Only the greasy veggie spring rolls escaped. I don't think an egg ever got close to their Portuguese Tart either.
