This is a really family-friendly establishment in Burlingame with delicious Chinese food. The owner is clearly beloved in the community and knows all of his regulars by name. We ordered an assortment of items including the XLB, sizzling rice soup, kung pao chicken, mongolian beef, orange chicken, the singapore fried noodles, and the eggplant. Everything was delicious, and I was told that all of the sauces were made in house, which is rare! I really appreciated that all the veggies in the dishes were fresh and crispy, and not overcooked, which is not always the case in some of these dishes. These folks have some tasty Chinese cuisine! I do not get around to Burlingame often enough and I know I'm missing out on some great food in that area. I did discover on Yelp this little restaurant that's been around a while and gets great ratings from Yelpers. I did get around to order delivery recently from these lovely folks, it was pretty good! Yelpers once again did not disappoint with their high regards to Young Can Wok. Great service from what I read and a cute restaurant there in Burlingame on the main drag. I ordered the Broadway Fried Rice with prawns, Chow Fun with beef and Egg Foo Yung with chicken. Everything was pretty good and if you're a fan of Egg Foo Yung like me, it's pretty massive and does come with a side of gravy and includes fresh veggies in the foo yung and nice chunks of chicken. There are several ways to order aside from chicken. The fried rice has several options depending on your cravings. I ordered the fried rice with prawns and came with big fluffy, plump shrimps and veggies, really good and not greasy. The chow fun is your basic big flat rice noodles, stir fried with little chunks of beef, you can order other options other than beef. All the entrees were piping hot with fresh ingredients. A nice little family owned Chinese restaurant that I went to during a lunch break recently. It's in Broadway in Burlingame so you do have to pay for parking and there are parking lots nearby. The restaurant is in a corner and it's pretty clean inside which is a plus. Service is solid as well. You know what you're in for when you see chopsticks AND a fork set on the table. What I ordered: - Sesame Chicken Lunch Special ($15.95) with Corn Chowder Soup included - Mu Shu with Pork ($17.50) - Loose Leaf Tea ($4.25/Pot) You're probably wondering why their tea is even notable, but it's mainly because they don't use cheap tea bags and use actualy tea leaves to steep. In that case I consider paying for the tea worth it and I'm not tea expert, but the tea was really fragrant. It was surprisingly better tea than most authentic Chinese restaurants I have been to. My dad ordered the Mu Shu with pork and the plate with the filling of pork and veggies was absolutely loaded. If you rarely get to try Mu Shu then this is a great spot to try it out. The wrap comes comes in a container that said "tortillas" which was funny, but they were pretty good and had the perfect soft texture. I also ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch Special for myself which comes with white rice and a soup of your choice which I opted for the corn chowder instead of the hot and sour. Their soups are pretty solid. The sesame chicken actually had a nice crisp and a good glaze to it. It wasn't really anything special and was really standard, but it was good enough flavor wise. The broccoli on the side was flavorless and undercooked although that was expected. The side salad was a little too heavy on the dressing. Overall a pretty solid lunch. I would say this is a pretty good option for some authentic Chinese food while also having your standard Americanized Chinese dishes too. While also having fairly reasonable prices. read more

Came here yesterday evening to celebrate Mother's Day to avoid the crowds on Sunday and was very happy with the experience. After hearing such great reviews from other people we were very excited with admittedly high expectations. We ordered soup dumplings, pan fried potstickers, phoenix wings, double pan fried noodles with beef, three coins in the fountain, generals chicken, and broadway chicken fried rice. The soup dumplings were fantastic and hot and exactly what we were hoping for. The potstickers were nice as well. These potstickers were definitely on the thinner side and reminded me of a Japanese Gyoza. The phoenix wings were savory, crunchy excellence. The general's chicken was crispy spicy goodness. The rice was well made with nice pieces of chicken and soy beans. This particular rice was more loose and not sticky and clumpy. I personally prefer my fried rice kinda sticky and clumpy so it wasn't my preference but it was still nicely made. The double pan fried noodles with beef was hands down my favorite dish and what I was most looking most forward to. It had the crunchy noodles but soon to be saturated with that delicious sauce with crisp vegetables and yummy beef. Just thinking about it makes me hungry again. The only dish that left a little more to be desired was the three coins in the fountain seafood dish. I was excited to order seafood with my mother because nobody in my house eats it therefore it is something I don't often make. This particular dish came with prawns, scallops, calamari, and sole. It's also one of the more expensive dishes on the menu. When it arrived at our table I wasn't sure what it was at first because it was so small with hidden pieces of seafood. The sole on the dish was tender and delicious but the calamari and the scallops were rubbery. Very unpleasant. Not only that but the dish itself was pretty bland and didn't have any distinct flavors. Definitely something I won't order again. Overall a lovely experience. The service was nice and accommodating. They were attentive and helpful with our baby which is so much appreciated. The interior is not fluorescent harsh unforgiving lighting, nor Formica tables with clanging ... it's gorgeous burnished wood with soothing lights, beautiful sense of serenity, plants, cloth napkins, lacquered chopsticks. The food is super fresh, everything from the walnut pumpkin prawns and garlic eggplant to noodles and Shanghai pork dumplings, not overly spiced, not greasy but light and the flavors shine through. The balance of ingredients so nothing was overtly done, none of that cloying sweetness or drowning in red chili flakes, nothing swimming in oil. Everything was just so so so freaking delicious, and this from the star of the produce and meat and seafood! We loved all of it and leftovers for my husband were even better. Was looking for a Chinese restaurant with good reviews and settled on Young Can Wok. It did not disappoint at all and perhaps it was better than expected. First of all I love dumplings, so starting off with pork dumplings was no brainer. They were good too, but perhaps a little small. Then came the order of fried noodles with chicken. I have never had fried noodles before, and at first I was disappointed as they were hard-like eating Ramen noodles without cooking!!! Turns out that once you steal the chicken and sauce they loosen up and are tasty. My server was not best with her English and I was just clueless as to how to eat the noodles, so it took a while to figure it out!!! Fried rice was fresh and great! In fact it was the best fried rice I had and so was the sesame chicken. After my recent experience, my review/rating screams the need for an update of Young Can Wok. Bumped easily to a 4.0 star. A clean, well-established, well-oiled machine of a Chinese restaurant -- churning out a steady stream of customers all day long. Mind you, 98% are Caucasian. What does that mean? A "PF Changs", in a way. Good and a safe choice, but not strong or pungent flavors. I went once and was not impressed, another time and not again. But the 3rd time is the charm. Delish! But look at me, I'm white as can be. It's a neighborhoody place. Calvin, I presume the owner, is very hospitable and knows most customers by name -- he is the star here. There's another server (or two), but he, by far, is the terrific one. The other positive factor of YCW: good value, large portions for the price. Great things to order: ================= * Basil Garlic Eggplant [$13.95, 5.0 stars] -- Sauteed with onions and fresh basil in house special sauce. I love this. * Broadway Fried Rice w/Shrimp [$14.00, 4.5 stars] -- Mixed with eggs, soy beans and scallions. The shrimp taste was so clean and outstanding! Less good: ========= * Eggplant in Spicy Garlic sauce [$13.95, 3.5 stars] -- uneventful, again, and blah sauce. Wasn't spicy at all. They have 2 eggplant dishes, so I asked which one was better. For me, don't skimp on this! One is not enough! Average: ======= * Pumpkin Prawns [$18.50, 3.0 stars] -- larger than the norm shrimp (alas, "prawns"), no tail, fried extra crisp, candied walnuts, and "pumpkin" (also fried), broke up the monotony with the shrimp and glaze, but not enough wow in any category of good to order again...and too much gluttony -- it's all fried with the sweet mayo glaze. He often go there for lunch by himself and also with company lunch meeting but this is the first time he noticed an automatic 20% service charge for 1 person dining?? Yet, there are still tip option on the signature receipt. We like the food but won't be returning.
