Ordered DoorDash . The beef soup was good . Lots of mushrooms and beef . Basil spicy chicken was also great and tasty . Pork work string beans was good . Quantity is also good and pricing is comparably cheaper to other places . We ate it few times . Overall great - will order again . read more

Hate leaving negative reviews but this was probably the first meal I've ever thrown away. The generals chicken was just skins or tendons or who knows if it was even chicken. When you skimp on actual meat it makes me think what else are they skimping on... and I couldn't go on. Tossed the whole meal read more

We've been ordering delivery from here for almost 10 years...Food is always delicious, delivery arrives faster than advertised. Never had a bad experience. Great service! read more

I ordered crispy crunchy noodles and got exactly that! The veg and beef and sauce were separate so they wouldn't sog up the noodles before they got to me. And a nice little treat - they threw in a couple of spring rolls! So nice of them and I was delighted! read more

I hardly ever get Chinese food out because I am always disappointed. But this place has really good food and it tastes like it is made with love. The older lady who brought out my food was so sweetest and thanked me for my patronage . I will definitely return to this place again! read more

Came here to pick up a lunch plate. $15.39. Wasted. I ordered the General Tso's chicken with chowmein. The chicken didn't even taste like chicken. It tasted like damn tripe. If you know you know. The portions are super super small. The "on the house egg rolls" were not good whatsoever, super chewy and tasteless. Although I will say that the guy working there was super nice and respectful. But I'm there for food not company. I'm good off this place time to try others ! read more

The food was horrible. There was absolutely no taste and the quality of their food is as horrible as the lack of any kind of taste. The Westlake Soup was like water w/ canned vegetables and the wings had just ONE bone in, taking the other bone to make it separated. I can't even find the words to describe how disappointing and how horrible the food was....whoever hired the cook, the owner should take some time to find a better chef. I'm bringing the food back so they can taste it for themselves!!! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! Don't waste your money. read more

Very good Chinese food. I love crab cream cheese rangoons and this place has the best I've tried in San Mateo area so far. The crab to cream cheese ratio is perfect. It's light crispy and golden. I ordered takeout they do not offer dine in. I have tried the yellow chicken curry which was delectable. All the vegetables melt in your mouth with the sauce. It's soft and has great texture. I did not like their orange chicken. It had too much of a ginger taste. But everything else I've tried there was good. Service is very good. They gave me complimentary veggie eggrolls which were nice. I can't say much about the ambiance as this place is takeout only. read more

First of all this review is long overdue. We found this place during the pandemic and have never actually been there but have ordered many times since. We have tried many things on their menu but some items really stand out and have become regulars such as the fried crab rangoon appetizer that my wife loves. I have tried the mongolian beef and the black pepper beef, both were fantastic. We also love their chicken options...orange, lemon, sesame and Kung Pao have all been great for us. What stands out for me is the excellant service, they are always on time, the food is always piping hot and they are very generous with all the extras like sauces, free spring rolls and lots of fortune cookies! I`m glad we found this place, you will be too. read more

Oceanic Restaurant - Great food with great service!! - Chinese Near Me - San Mateo, California

Decent food here, slightly smaller menu. Friendly staff :). If you want to beat the rush, you can pre-order for pickup right when they open the next day. We loved their chow fun, fried rice, string beans and bean curd, and their chicken and veggies. All the dishes were delicious! We also got egg rolls on y)3 house which was so nice of them! They are currently only doing delivery and takeout. Go support your local restaurant! read more

Good food that reminds me of East Coast Chinese takeout. I recommend the Orange Chicken. Oh, I love that all of their chicken dishes are white meat only too. If you order directly from them, delivery is free and super quick. read more

This was my first and likely last time ordering from this place. We ordered delivery and were quite disappointed with the quality. The sizzling rice soup was ruined by stale rice and overcooked vegetables. The drunken chicken lived up to its name in all the wrong ways, and the chow mein was mostly noodles with a few measly green onions. It's puzzling how this place has a good rating; it's very deceiving. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

I really like this restaurant! They have lunch specials every day, which are delicious and give plenty of food for a very reasonable price. They also gave complimentary egg rolls as an appetizer which was such a nice touch. The staff were pretty attentive and service was fast. We ordered the salt and pepper beef lunch special ($8.75; not on the menu but if you request it the kitchen is nice enough to make it for you) which was very crispy and delicious. We also got the walnut prawns ($9.50) which had these gigantic fried prawns with just the right amount of sauce. Apparently they do free delivery for orders over $20 as well! read more

We order from this place often times. The egg rolls are always on the house. They usually say delivery is about 45 mins but usually gets to you within 30 mins. Today I found this in my food. Maybe they can do a more diligent job on this. Overall food is not bad. Extra $2 for fried rice. read more

Good solid lunch special. Great price for the amount. The only issue is the online platform doesn't let you modify so you have to pick up the phone to get exactly what you want. I usually stick with the basics (Mongolian beef, broccoli chicken, etc) as I tried a prawn dish to be underwhelmed by the amount of protein. Also, tried the beef curry with the same outcome. read more

We've been going to Oceanic for years and after living out of California for a few years we had to stop here to pickup some food. I'm really happy I discovered this place recently! The potstickers/beef chow fun/ Wonton soup I ordered were great!

placing a delivery order through yelp...general tao's chicken $12.75...selecting mild...chicken chow mein $10.50 and crispy sesame chicken $12.75...delivery fee $6...tax $3.99...20% tip $9.19...total $55.18...quick warning...the tip is calculated based on entire total including delivery fee and tax...estimated delivery time was about 1 hour and 20 minutes...the status changed to preparing order and it never changed after...thinking the food will never be delivered...but, about 50 minutes later, the doorbell rang and food was delivered.... sturdy black plastic containers with clear lids for the sesame chicken and general tao chicken...sealed and no leaks...chow main in paper box container...bag of fried vegetable egg rolls included complimentary....soysauce, sweet red sauce and plenty of fortune cookies...food was got, but being inside a tight sealed container sesame chicken and general tao chicken was not crispy...soft batter covered in sauce...general tao was sweet and tangy with a hint of spice...sesame chicken was sweet with a slight tang...both acceptable and portions were good for the price...standard chow mein....overall, typical americanized chinese food with familiar menu and taste... read more

The standard of excellence for take-out Chinese in San Mateo. Consistently great. Never greasy or bland like some others we've tried.

We ordered a variety of dishes (over $100) and everything was either awful (sweet & sour pork) or just mediocre (fried rice, moo sho pork & chicken chow mein). The only dish we enjoyed was the vegetable egg foo yung. Honestly, the pork in the sweet & sour was so hard and tough! Our dinner was for 3 and we all agreed with above. read more

Ordered sesame chicken but very dry and hard to chew. Looked like it has been fried days before and heated up again when it was ordered. Braised tofu was the same. Very dry and definitely not freshly cooked. Very disappointed and won't order again. read more

Food used to be so much better here! Ordered garlic noodles, garlicky but they used to be stir fried a little and had better flavored. Now they're just pale and not as robust in flavor. And the chicken. What a disappointment! Ok flavor, but I was afraid to eat more than a tiny bite! Didn't look like chicken pieces but spare parts. I was convinced on opening the container that it was octopus. Not good. Will have to take this place out of my restaurant rotation. read more

This is by far one of my favorite places for lunch and dinner. I have been ordering from Oceanic for many years, and always fantastic and consistent in the way the dishes are prepared. I order from here very often and have always had the greatest experience. Highly recommend West Lake Minced Soup (can't rave enough about it), Lotus root and shrimp, beef and broccoli, Buddha's delight, General Tsao Chicken. Food always tastes great, plus I order as soon as they open so it's especially fresh. The customer service is superior and the delivery service is cheap (3.99 since I'm too far for the free). Great price for the quality and amount of food! read more

This used to be wonderful but two of the take-out dishes were practically inedible. The Salt & Pepper Squid Specialty was flavorful but was tough and rubbery. The Walnut Prawns Specialty were so hard that had to use a knife to cut through the crust. Oceanic has always been on the pricier side but the quality was always worth it. After spending over $60 on such a disappointing meal, I won't be ordering from them again. read more

Food: meats were just bits of fried material and oil. Not substantial meat at all. The flavors were bland and almost not there. Heavily fried. Not fresh. Service was quick, but I regret spending $100. Just thought I would try something new. read more

Great experience here tonight (it was my second time here, but I forgot to review it the first time): *the family that runs this restaurant is awesome, polite, appreciative, and friendly *food is very good, it is more of a Chinese-American menu, but since I speak Chinese, I was able to order some things a bit more authentic and not on the menu, they happily obliged and the dishes were great! *service is lightning fast, and they constantly attend to re-filling your tea, water, whatever you need *complimentary appetizers, soups, and desserts... WHAT??? keep it coming, please, and thank you!!! *I feel that if they had a more central location with a dedicated parking lot, many more people would come here. It's not totally visible or accessible due to their weird location on El Camino/25th, but if you are familiar with the alley that runs behind it, then parking is easy I'm going to bring my Chinese parents here next time to see what they think of it. I grew up eating Chinese food, and although I usually don't eat typical Chinese-American food (pot stickers, egg rolls, fried rice, chow mein, sweet & sour, hot & sour, General's, Kung Pao, etc... this place did them right. Coming back soon! read more

First time customer. Easy online ordering. Delivery was at least 20 minutes sooner than I expected. Fantastic, plentiful, and flavorful food. The (bonus) egg roll was the cherry on top. read more

Sometimes I crave lowkey chinese cuisine, which I've come to realize is not in abundance in the bay. Chinese food here is pricey and the taste truly depends on whatever mood the chef is in. I'm originally from the East coast and I'll never get used to the fact that rice is an add-on (everywhere else it comes as part of your meal.) Oceanic is a family owned shop, staffed by their children. I love supporting small businesses, and the kids were really sweet and attentive. The restaurant is pretty spacious and is good for groups and families. With that said, the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered the classics: - Hot & Sour soup - Not enough starch which calls for a very watery soup. The flavor was there. Probably my favorite of the three. - Hunan beef - Beef is pre-fried (that's foodie-term for low quality beef), VERY few veggies (a sprinkle of snow peas, onions, carrots), nothing outstanding. - Chicken lo mein - Bland. Wok wasn't hot enough so no 'wok' flavor. It came with chicken and a sprinkle of celery. It was like the chef had run out of ingredients for the day. Overall disappointing. Essentially $40 for a $20 meal. read more

I've lived in the peninsula for a long time but never came here due to it not looking like much. I generally only go to Chinese restaurants overflowing with Asian people and this is not one of them. Being of Chinese decent and having grown up in San Francisco, my expectations of Chinese food are very high given how much of it I have eaten all my life so I was skeptical. But I get an ad highlighting their lunch special and decide to give it a try given that it seems like a good deal ($8-10 plus free soup and egg roll). Hard to get lunch for less than $10 anymore. To my surprise, the service was very attentive. Soon after I sat down the hot and sour soup and eggroll showed up. The eggroll was just OK but the soup was actually quite good. I like a sour hot and sour soup and it was quite tasty. The offerings for lunch seem standard and I went with the Mongolian lamb. They offer white or brown rice, so I went with the brown rice. It's nice that they offer this option as I'm trying to be healthier. So the food arrives and it's a decent portion. The flavor is good and it has a little bit of spiciness but not too much. The crispies on top I could have done without but I just pushed them aside. As I'm eating I noticed the waitress speaking a little bit of Spanish saying thank you and see you next time. I think that's a nice gesture. I only had one dish but it was good enough for me to come back to try more. As I'm leaving it looks like a few of the family members who help run the business are sitting at a table and they all say thanks and bye. No read more

Came to this location very often a few years back during San Mateo County events. Haven't been back since the last few years. Originally had planned on going some where else but they were full and car was parked closer to this place. There was a reason that this place was on the emptier side. The place I had gone to a few years before was no longer there, taken over by new owners and changed the menu. Food was nothing to say wow about, don't even know what was inside the egg rolls just know there wasn't any meat. read more

Someone must have read my last review because the food has really stepped up. Hubby and I ordered a bunch of different dishes last week and all of them were good, some were downright delicious. In fact, the garlic noodles were so phenomenal that we're getting three orders tonight - thoroughly addicting! Honestly, I could live off of these noodles. We also ordered the Mongolian Beef which was well-spiced and nicely cooked. The Hunan Lemon Shrimp did nothing for me and Pierre's has spoiled me with their Ma Po Bean Curd, but overall we were very pleased with our dinner. Thanks Oceanic for reading the signs on the wall and bringing up your game. See you tonight!! read more

We ordered lunch today. While the portions were generous and the food generally good, we ordered one dish that was virtually inedible. The mango chicken lunch special was ordered and very spicy was selected. There wasn't one bit of spice in it which meant that it was sickly sweet. I had to add a boatload of hot sauce to make it tolerable. The Mongolian beef lunch special which we also ordered is very spicy was only moderately spicy. So basically, the food was inconsistent read more
