A22. Chinese Pork Belly burger (2 pcs)
Claire H.

I heard that Dumpling Kitchen's Chinese Pork Belly Burger was really good, so I had to go see for myself. I ordered 2 orders togo on a quiet Sunday evening (each order comes with 2; about $20 total before tip). I was the only person in the store and it took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. They packaged each of them separately and had them ready in a bag. The burgers are more like Chinese buns (mantou) with pork belly, sauce, and cilantro. Everything went very well together and tasted good because of how fresh the ingredients were. The bun wasn't soggy, even after my drive home. It was nice and fluffy and absorbed the juices really well. I would definitely come back and try their dumplings next time.

Beijing braised pork bun (6.95), Xiao loong bao (6.55)

Dumpling Kitchen takes over space where many dumplings' distributors have been before. D.K. has an expanded menu and 4 tables inside for dining. offerings: specialty dumplings & dim sum, appetizers, noodles, rice combos, frozen dumplings & Dim sum, drinks. eats: shangai-style pork dumpling (XLB, 6 piece-6.55) -nice looking wraps, had fair amount of juice, fillings. -no ginger slices nor red vinegar dipping sauce provided. didn't miss it. -had a slightly heavy msg aftertaste. beijing styled steamed braised pork bao (3/6.95) -large bun with nice soft texture wrapping -meat had slight unami flavoring. -also had a slightly heavy msg aftertaste *wouldn't repeat re the msg... prep time 10-15 minutes. wonder how cashier was able to tell what's in bag when no labels were attached-must be the see thru plastic containers.

A24. Xi'an Pork Belly Rougamo. This was yummy.

So they use to be Sui Mai Factory, then they were Pan Kee foods, and now Dumpling Kitchen!... For now anyways hahaha Anywho, I don't know if it was a name change or a change in ownership but they're the sister restaurant to the Dumpling Kitchen in the city in the Sunset. The one frequented by Ali Wong. I don't care about that. The only thing that mattered to me is that they didn't get rid of their frozen custard baos. And they didn't! Looks like they still have all the frozen foods from their Pan Kee - Sui Mai days, now with hot foods ready for takeout or delivery through Grubhub. We got the sui mais and their custard baos as usual. They have a large assortment of dumplings but I've found the skin is too thick for my preference. And while they have more meat, they lack flavor compared to my normal dumpling joint. The custard baos and sui mais are better buys imo. Moving on. For hot foods, we got D5: Taiwan braised beef over rice. I thought it lacked beef as it's heavy on rice, pickled veggies and steamed broccoli, but it all has good flavor. They also recommended A24: Xi'an pork belly rougamo. Basically fried pork belly sando. It comes with two so we got one spicy and one not spicy... But there was zero heat to the spicy one so if you like it hot, ask for extra spicy? Overall, I'm excited to try more of their hot food options. And they offer 10% off to your first online order. You know I like a deal.

Small hole in the wall shop. This is not a typical Dim Sum shop where you can walk in, pick what you want, and walk out. For us, we order some simple stuff but was told to wait 20 min for the food = cooking in the back for us = hot food which we prefer. Pricing is on high end since 6 Sui Mai is around $10. Very limited menu as you can see. So, if you are looking at traditional Dim Sum store, this is not it. If you are looking for hot and fresh dim sum and doesn't want to go to a sit down restaurant, this is the place. Food is pretty tasty for me.

It was not busy when I arrived. You can check the menu with QR code but you have to order with the server. As there are plenty authentic chinese dishes on the menu I couldn't decide which one to order, I finally ordered Changsa noodle and chili fried chicken. The food was ready pretty quickly. One thing I didn't pay attention while ordering was the chili fried Chicken. I expected to be dark meat and it was white meat whichbis very uncommon on this type of dish as I had this dish at many restaurants and all served with dark meat. I didn't pay attention to the description of the dish. It was good but I prefer dark meat. The Changsa noodle is unique as it is cooked with a lot of egg, jalapeno and black bean. It was yummy but I feel the egg overpowering the noodle. At last about gratuity. It mentions we don't need to tip but 18% is included which is a tip. It is very misleading information. If customer doesn't need to tip then 18% mandatory charge should not be enforced. Service was just ok. When we about to leave the restaurant was almost full which is a good sign. Overall food is good as it 4 stars but 18% mandatory gratuity will make me reconsider if I will be back for eat in.

Let's start with the order of the food being served. Soup came last... noodles came in 2nd ... anyways. Food is edible but more like Panda Express quality. If this were a take out or fast food restaurant, this can be a 4+ star restaurant. Service is friendly though. Plus, its restaurant announcements are pretty stuck up... although I don't have small ones dining with us. But the restaurant made sure you read how they feel about children in their restaurant. Will not be back.

FOOD: We ordered the Spicy Garlic Pepper Rice (added egg and cheese) & the Garlic Pepper Rice (added crispy onions and cheese) both dishes super solid choices! They also have extra condiments available on the table (garlic shoyu and teriyaki sauce) if you wanted to add more flavor. Portions are generous sizes and we were able to take our leftovers home. SERVICE: Super quick and easy! Once seated, you order through the QR code on the table. Our food came out fairly quickly and staff members were attentive. AMBIANCE: Restaurant is fairly spaced out! Most tables are set for parties of 4 but loved how I didn't feel too cramped while seated. PARKING: Parking is super easy since they have a parking lot! Would visit again since we love the food :)

The ambiance is a bit similar to a fast casual restaurant than that of a high end course meal and the service aligns with that. Bathrooms are in a bit of a sorry state and chairs are peeling at the edges. Service is a bit clumsy and rushed. No one asks for any food restrictions before the meal and it isn't asked when reservations are being made, so you'll have to actively speak up if you need this addressed. Dishes are only fully explained at the bar, if you sit at the standard tables you'll get a very basic dish explanation. The food is mostly Chinese Japanese fusion and some dishes knock it out of the park, like the chawanmushi which is fused with flavors of Chinese egg drop soup. Some really drop the ball, like the scallion noodles which were soggy and overly greasy, the oil was not properly infused with the green onion and so you just got mushy soggy plain oil flavored noodles. The course lacked consistency. Some dishes were incredible, some average, and some downright bad. There's a lack of consistency in the prep also, there were crab shells in the orange crab dish, there was a bad bitter uni in one of the chawanmushi, etc. I think the ambiance, service, and course doesn't add up to the $150 price tag. There's definitely potential but the lack of effort does affect the overall experience.

It sits right there near the Bay Trail--on the boardwalk side of Foster City--where you can see the bridge heading toward the East Bay. Back when I worked for a small IT consulting company, this was our go-to lunch spot. Big group? No problem. They have the space, the big round tables, and of course the lazy Susan right in the middle, which is exactly how it should be. The daily whiteboard specials were always worth a look, and the kitchen here knows how to handle heat. Real heat. Lots of chilies, lots of flavor. Over the four years I worked nearby, my tolerance for spicy food definitely leveled up thanks to this place. My absolute favorite dish here is their Chung Hwa Road potstickers. They take about 10 minutes to make, and they are massive--easily three or four times the size of a regular potsticker. They come out connected by that beautiful crispy lace, that spiderweb crust on the bottom that makes everyone at the table pause for a second before diving in. Dip those into their house sauce with black vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and soy... honestly, it's perfection. They also do kung pao chicken the traditional way--chicken, peanuts, chilies. No fillers, no nonsense. Just clean, bold flavor. I appreciate that. The snow pea shoots here are another favorite when they're in season. Expensive, yes--but once you know how much work goes into cleaning and prepping them, you understand why. Worth every penny. Same with the steamed whole fish. Market price, always fresh, usually topped with scallions, ginger, and chilies. Spoon that over a bowl of hot rice and you're set. Service runs like a well-oiled machine. Tea comes quickly--usually jasmine or chrysanthemum--and if you lift the lid slightly, someone will notice and refill it. It's one of those small traditional touches that tells you they know exactly what they're doing. They're also incredibly organized with takeout. Soups are sealed tight, everything packed carefully so nothing spills. You can tell they've done this a million times. I lived on the Peninsula for two decades, and this place stayed in my regular rotation the entire time. Now that I'm in Charlotte, it's one of those restaurants I genuinely miss. We just don't have Taiwanese food like this out here. So if you're nearby, go. Order the dumplings. Get something spicy. Sit around the table with friends and take your time. And when you eat a potsticker, think of me--because life is too short not to eat well.

From the first visit, it was clear this isn't an "Americanized Chinese restaurant," but a place that truly understands Chinese cooking, technique, and flavor. What impressed me most were the mushroom dishes. Being able to enjoy mushrooms with such depth and complexity in the U.S. is already rare. The aroma isn't built from heavy seasoning, but from the ingredients themselves, fully brought out. The flavors are clean, natural, and incredibly fragrant--the kind that lingers and keeps you wanting more. It immediately brought back memories of authentic Yunnan flavors. Even more impressive were some of the seemingly ordinary stir-fried dishes. At first glance, they look simple, almost unassuming. One bite in, though, and you instantly understand what real wok hei is. That smoky, high-heat flavor can only come from a skilled chef using proper equipment and precise timing. It's not greasy or overpowering--just deeply aromatic and perfectly balanced. Simple, yet elevated. Overall, this is a restaurant that doesn't rely on gimmicks, fancy plating, or social-media hype. Everything is driven by pure technique and respect for ingredients. Each dish has a clear identity and leaves a lasting impression--not something you just photograph and forget, but something you actually remember. In the Bay Area, where Chinese restaurants are everywhere but truly great ones are rare, Ping's Bistro is a place I'd gladly return to again and again. If you're looking for something different, want to experience real wok hei, or simply appreciate honest, well-executed Chinese cooking, this spot is absolutely worth a dedicated visit.

The menu being visual online helped made ordering easier. The food came out in good timing. The staff was helpful whenever we had questions about what certain items were. Water refills were easy to flag down. The cucumber salad was a huge portion and so refreshing. We wish the cold potato salad was a bit softer (it was crunchy). We didn't find anything too spicy. For the skewers, everything was juicy and well-seasoned. The flavoring was great. My personal favorites were the beef and lamb sticks which were tender.
