When craving for Chinese food; either ordering take out or dining-in, we always go to Yan's Garden. We have tried most of the Chinese restaurants in San Carlos, but Yan's is our clear favorite. Food is delicious and flavors are comparable to the popular Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. Dining-in service is always friendly and very attentive. This is a very good place to entertain family and friends. My favorites are Sizzling Braised Tofu, Dry Pot Fish Fillet, Dry Pot Chicken, Sliced Tender Pork Chop with Salt & Pepper, Hong Kong Style Pan Fried Noodles, Braised Dry Green Beans, and Chinese Broccoli with Garlic Sauce. There are so many other good food options that it is impossible to order in one meal. We'll keep coming back! read more

Growing up in Arcadia, before 99 Ranch and lots of Chinese restaurants arrived in the area, my family used to go to Spring Garden in Pasadena, and I remember loving the mu shu pork there. Yan's brings me back to those days. We've been eating here more often over the past few years, and we have our regular dishes: chicken and corn soup, pork chops with Peking sauce, green beans, potstickers, and of course mu shu pork. Not sure who came up with the idea of a tortilla with hoisin sauce wrapped around cabbage, pork, and wood ear, but somehow it works. We usually have leftovers since the portions are quite large. There's other interesting stuff on the menu too (especially the Szechuan dishes) but most of the time we don't have enough room to order them. They also do drinks, and I like the lychee slushee. The staff is super friendly. Happy to have this place within a few blocks of home for some Chinese comfort food. read more

I did takeout, that said the staff was very friendly. Portions were huge. As for the food itself well... We ordered scallion pancakes-alas there were no scallions in them. I mean none. Pot stickers were good but with a very thick wrapping. Salt and pepper tofu was ok. The chicken soup dumplings could use more flavor but overall good for what it is. The snow peas beef and crispy chicken were just as good but nothing to really write home about. We love Yan's. We take out monthly because their flavoring is delicious and reliable! We usually order for a family of 7 based on the fortune cookies because we love so many dishes on the menu -- any permutation of beef/chicken/shrimp and string beans or broccoli. The fried rice, Singapore mifun, and potstickers always hit the spot! I just got the Chicken Salad to go for lunch with fried rice and Spicy Cucumbers and I couldn't be happier. Hard to find real Szechuan flavor in this area, so this place was a nice surprise. All their spicy dishes actually hit and don't taste watered down. The Sichuan spicy boiled fish is fire and probably my favorite thing on the menu. Their deep fried dishes come out still sizzling, which is always a good sign. Called to see if I ordered through door dash if they could please put the sweet and sour sauce on the side of the sweet and sour chicken and she said they would not take special orders because they were to busy. Like wtf how is placing the sauce on the side going to take up anymore time than placing it directly on the chicken! From boba tea and pot stickers to Mu Shu pork and Pineapple Chicken fried rice, this place has truly got you and your taste buds covered from beginning to end. I stopped in recently with my boyfriend for dinner and we had such an excellent experience. I love the family-run dynamic of this place... They're a fast-paced bunch and very efficient! The food here is not only prepared with the freshest of ingredients, but its also bountiful in portion and you can't beat the homemade taste! We shared between the two of us practically a whole feast... but enough for lunch leftovers the following day. Based off what we ate, i'd highly recommend: Hot & Sour soup, BBQ Pork Buns, Honey Walnut Chicken and Orange chicken. I also paired the meal with a black sugar milk tea and that was delicious--an absolute must, for the next time you visit. I haven't ordered the food here yet BUT I have stopped in for the boba many times. They have such a unique boba tea menu from mango pomelo sago to tiramisu lattes along with regular boba tea options as well. I'm way more impressed with their boba tea menu and quality than Boba Guys right across the street. There is also a convenient little kiosk at the front where you can input your order which is nice if you're an introvert, are indecisive, or have anxiety ordering things (lol). My only complaint is that I've tried ordering the boba online for pick up a couple of times and the system hasn't worked for me. I'll input my order, get ready for check out, and as soon as I input my card and press finish it says "oops there is an issue". I tried a few different cards (and know my credit cards are fine) and it still does this. Not sure if that's an issue on my end with internet, etc. but it's happened a couple of times. So I'll mostly just order in person and it's fine. The restaurant side has a mom and pop family feel to it. I'll have to try the food sometime soon! read more

We tried a few other spots, until we decided to try Yan's Garden. We were really pleased with the quality and tastiness of the food here. Service was super friendly and efficient. The drinks range from boba to alcoholic beverages like beer and wine. There's literally something for everyone! *Food: Since it was only my husband and I, we ordered two main dishes and a bowl of steamed rice. The general's chicken was very flavorful and paired perfectly with the steam rice as to balance your palette. The salt & pepper porkchop was good and on the healthier side as there is no msg. Both main dishes were solid if you're craving some Chinese food. The steam rice was the only thing that was subpar as it did not taste or look like fluffy fresh jasmine rice. A super down-to-earth and friendly family-owned restaurant. One of my favorite things about this spot is the couches--you don't usually find that in restaurants, and my friend and I love coming here just for that. We're always on the lookout for cozy, relaxing places, and while we usually end up at cafés, expanding our search led us to Yan's Garden. I always order the soup dumplings when I visit, and this time, I also tried the boba--it was delicious! It was on a hot summer day. We were waking our dog babies on Laurel randomly came across this place in the quieter side of Laurel. The table and chair on the sidewalk was super inviting. Looks like a perfect spot to sit down and chill for a bit. And spacious for our dogs to settle comfortably. It's a good combination of Chinese food and healthy tea. We just wanted to have some small bites. So we ordered a couple things and highly recommend this vegetarian egg rolls. Perfectly crispy outside and flavorful inside. We also ordered the kiwi slush and mango passion fruit tea. Both are delicious actually. And perfect for summer days. They use chunks of fruits in it feels very much like real deal. Good spot for Chinese food in downtown San Carlos! I came for dinner Saturday evening around 6:30 and it was super empty. Very easy to get a table. The menu has many pages and there are a lot of dishes to choose from. My group of 3 ordered three dishes to share: Dry pot chicken ($18.99) - I didn't eat much of this as I tend to stay away from spicy dishes, but I tried 2 pieces of chicken and it wasn't actually that spicy Broccoli beef ($16.99) - pretty standard for this dish, though I thought the beef slices were a little too thin Fish fillet with black bean sauce ($17.99) - my favorite dish of the night! I've never had a bad version of this dish and it was good here as well We ordered rice on the side for $2.50 pp, and tea was an extra $1 pp. They also have a boba menu, but I didn't look at it as I was only here for food. We love Yan's! Came here once for their Oreo matcha smoothie which was 10/10. Not too sweet, just how I like it. Decided to come back to try their food and it was delicious too. I get the kung pao chicken with chow mein and it didn't disappoint either. Without even going through the details let me tell you that this Yan CAN cook! My family and I were immediately greeted with a warm smile from what seemed to be the owner. This is a family owned business so some items like their potstickers are a passed down family recipe. I highly recommend getting an extra order as we went through them pretty quickly. The Mongolian Beef was tender and had a nice savory sauce. I'm a big fan of this dish having a lot of onions and this one delivered. My only qualm is that it could have been spicier but then again I'm always looking for a little extra spice. Luckily, the Kung Pao chicken had what I was looking for so I was satisfied. The spicy mango prawns was a nice item. It was more sweet than spicy, not as overwhelming as a honey walnut, and much more flavorful than hot and sour sauce. There were bits of warm mango pieces, which some may or may not enjoy. I personally didn't care for them but to each their own. I was most surprised by salt and pepper fish fillet. That was probably my favorite item. It's a really simple dish but executed beautifully. It had a nice crunchy coat and a modest amount of salt and pepper. Sometimes simple is the best. So glad we finally ordered. We live in the neighborhood and have had some hit-or-miss experiences with Chinese (with one exception also on Laurel St that's always good). I had picked up a menu on one of many walks along Laurel and it was on our fridge for a while. The menu is pretty extensive. We ordered for pickup through the app just to make sure we got it right. I had the Spicy Mango Chicken and loved it. Just a little bit of spice and sweet. We also had pot stickers that were just the right level of freshness and not doughy, just a great mouth of flavor. Yan's has progressively gone down the hill. I have loved their War Won Ton soup for years and people here used to be friendlier prior to new ownership. They're about dollars while overlooking quality and service now. This Friday the large War Won Ton to-go did not fill both containers. It had very little meat, no carrots or bok choy. I asked for more veggies instead of shrimp. I got one shrimp in there anyways and mostly broth. It was the saddest War Won Ton I've seen and ignoring someone's request to omit shellfish could potentially have dire consequences for those allergic. The $15 chicken fried rice was equally pathetic looking and didn't taste fresh either. It contained very little ingredients unlike fried rice of the past. How do you screw the most simplest of dishes up? Obviously, they don't care. I can make better fried rice. I'm officially breaking up with Yan's. It's rip-off pricing for what you get and simply inconsistent now. King Chuan is my new War Won Ton spot. read more

This is my friends and I go-to spot for Chinese food in San Carlos! The food is always solid and the service is impeccable. In addition, you get a coupon for $15 that is valid for 60 days if you spend at least $100. We're a group of 6 people and have never had issues getting seating on Saturday or Sunday nights.
