Came here with some friends after a morning walk. Wanted to try some sour pickle fish soup thst I had seen in NY but didn't have a chance to try. The place looks tiny on the outside but has a decent amount of seating. It's kind of your hole in the wall greasy spoon type of place but the people are nice and the portions are good! We had XLB, a sour pickled fish soup and a rice cake with pork and sour pickles. Okay, sour pickles sound gross but really, it's kinda sweet and the hubs loves it but never knows how to order it when we go out. XLB 5/5: Okay, this could be my go to XLB spot but it's not as close as I like. The dumplings were juicy and perfect pop in your mouth size. Can't beat the 7.95 price for 8! Fish soup with chopped pickled greens casserole 5/5: A large portion of soup and lots of pieces of fish. The tanginess of the pickled mustard is a surprisingly good kick. Nice and warm on a cold day. Rice noodles with pork and pickled greens 4/5: Not my favorite dish but done well with the rice noodles nice and chewy. Plenty of sliced pork and good amount of the picked greens. Overall a great hidden spot to get some good home cooking. The reason it's 4 stars is cuz of the greasy hole in the wall feel but hey, if it keeps the prices down then I'm fine with in. I plan to come back with the hubs to check out more of their menu!

LOVED IT! This is that little hole in the wall place you bring the family from out of town too. Every dish we ordered did not disappoint! The Honey Walnut Prawns, I could have eat 4 pounds of it! The chow mein, was what I have been missing. The quality of chow mein has dropped off in the bay area. They do close between 3-5pm and we walked in at 2:50pm. The waiter sat us said "order fast kitchen closing". He could have easily had us come back later. The food came out fast and just amazing. SO GOOD! We will return and soon! A must try! Hope this review convinces you.

I tried food at catered event. ORDER (not paid by me but I tried this food) -Salt Pepper Filet -Vegetable Egg Rolls -Sesame Ball -Fortune Cookies -Pot Stickers -Vegetable Bun STARS (stand out qualities) -All dishes above (except for vegetable bun) were solid good and tasty -Catering came with utensils and fortune cookie STAIRS (areas of growth) -Vegetable buns seemed a little dry; I think it was only one vegetable I will want to try the restaurant someday!

Have been coming here regularly and it never disappoints Our go to dishes: Hunan tofu - soft tofu in savory black bean sauce Fresh chili fish - tender fish filet in not too spicy fresh chili sauce Other highlights: Noodles of any kind - these are thick and taste handmade. Soup broths are not great and I like to doctor it up with white pepper and chili sauce, but noodles are bomb.

Customer service was amazing! I felt so welcomed here and not uncomfortable. We randomly stumbled upon this place after getting manicures down the street. Food was really great too! This place is a simple old school chinese place that focuses on its food. It was very clean. Out server was an older gentleman and he was very helpful and nice. He checked up on us throughout our meal multiple times to ask if everything was OK. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, which was outstanding. And also another type of soup and some spicy chicken wings. Everything was really good. And I look forward to returning once again

There was a…read moreshort line when I arrived, but the staff turned tables quickly and kept everything moving efficiently, so the wait wasn't long at all. I ordered their #1 recommendation, the Homura Aburasoba, and immediately scarfed it down. Popping the perfectly runny egg yolk into the noodles was incredibly satisfying, and every bite was packed with rich, savory umami. The noodles themselves were thick, chewy, and had a great bite that held up well to the sauce. I also tried the Wagyu dish, but it arrived more cooked than it appeared in the photos, which made the texture and overall experience a bit underwhelming. The sauce also leaned on the creamier side, which isn't my favorite pairing with Wagyu, so I'd probably skip that one next time. That said, the Homura Aburasoba alone is worth coming back for and easily earns Kajiken a well-deserved 5/5.

From the moment we walked in, the server who was seating guests spoke to us in a very harsh tone. It was my friend's first time visiting, so he didn't realize there was a line and walked inside. Instead of simply pointing him to the line, the server abruptly told him to get back in line. Once we did, everyone in front of us received menus except for us. When it was our turn to order, I pointed directly to the #1 menu item because I couldn't pronounce it. He acknowledged me by saying "okay," so I assumed my order had been entered correctly. About 15-20 minutes later, my friend received all of his food while mine never came. After waiting even longer, I politely asked if we could cancel my order. Instead of apologizing, the server immediately responded, "You never ordered that. I even read the order back to you and you confirmed." This confused me because I distinctly remember pointing to the item I wanted on the menu when I placed my order. Mistakes happen, and I completely understand that. What disappointed me wasn't that my order was missed... it was the lack of accountability and basic customer service. There was no apology or attempt to make things right, and I ended up leaving without ever eating. My friend and I remained polite throughout the entire interaction and even left a tip. Unfortunately, this experience makes it hard for me to want to come back.

Noodles were chewier than most beef noodle soups I've had and the beef pieces were very tender and soft. The soup wasn't too spicy by itself and had alot of depth and flavor. -Pro-tip: There is a little self-serve station near the kitchen where you can get add'l condiments like cilantro, green onion, chili, and pickled daikon. SCORE. Add in the cilantro/green onion for a flavor explosion. -Ordered one of the combo noodles + 2 sides. For my sides, I got a blanched bok choy and a fried gyoza. The bok choy was needed to help cut the spiciness of the soup and to add veggies b/c without it, you'd just be having carbs, beef, and soup. Gyoza was a win too. Service: FAST and friendly, just how I like my non-fine dining restaurant experiences. You scan a QR code at the table and then choose an english/chinese option. If you have questions, you can ask the staff, but there isn't a TON of options to choose from, so make it easy on yourself and order a noodle soup. Ambiance: Ample seating at 1:30pm on a Sunday. Didn't have to wait, which was a big plus as all the other restaurants in San Mateo over near 3rd/4th and B street were packed. Overall: Highly recommend and would come again. The tsukemen here was definitely an improvement compared to our previous visit. The broth was thicker, richer, and the meat was more tender. The spicy ramen, however, had a broth that was just as thick as the tsukemen. I found myself slurping a lot of the fatty broth, and it felt a little too heavy for my preference. We asked if they could add some hot water to dilute it, and the adjustment made a huge difference -- it went from a 2-star experience to a 4-star one for me. The Sand Storm calamari was delicious, just like at the Milpitas location. Service was courteous and quick, and the restaurant had a nice, clean, and comfortable atmosphere. Overall, a solid experience, and I'd come back again -- especially for the calamari.

And though we arrived on the slightly later side, they never made us feel rushed. The interior of Rin-Tei is minimalist and cozy, and had a very familial feel, as virtually all the tables are connected by a long bench along the wall. It contributes to the inviting, inclusive atmosphere of the restaurant, making it a great spot to meet up with friends. We ordered a variety of dishes which we all split, including: the garlic shrimp, the Vietnamese papaya salad, cold sesame TanTan pho, keema curry, calamari, sizzling wagyu loin, and a couple drinks. And everything we had was excellent! My personal favorites were the sizzling wagyu loin, which was perfectly cooked and abundantly juicy and flavorful, and the warm, tasty keema curry. I'd also never had cold pho before, but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.
