I must've passed Wok Wok a hundred times and never noticed it until I was steered down its entrance stairs one Sat morning for what turned out to be a surprisingly delicious Malaysian lunch. The Curry Frying Roti was properly flaky and buttery, with just the right amount of crispiness and chewiness in equal parts. The accompanying curry dipping sauce was everything it should be. For entrees, my Fish Head Noodle Soup was a hearty, filling, pescatarian lover's bowl of savory broth and umami--without the heaviness of laksa and coconut milk that most Malaysian noodle soups have (not that I'm complaining). The Signature Wok-Hei Stir-Fried Noodle Style had a nice smokiness and a generous portion of veggies/meat--it's not in the same league as what I enjoyed on the streets of Penang, but that's almost unfair to compare. Finally, the silky Hainanese Chicken was definitely one of the better ones I've had in terms of texture and flavor, though it didn't come with the broth-flavored ginger-scallion rice that traditionally accompanies it--so that kind of sucked. We arrived just after 11am, and by 12:15pm, the place was full. It was nice to see, considering how blink-and-you'll-miss the location is. Malaysian still has a long way to go to reach the level of prestige and creativity enjoyed by other Asian cuisines in the West, but at least spots like Wok Wok keep the hometown feel alive.

Wok Wok has so many options to choose from and is a great spot to visit even if you want a smaller bite. I ordered a delicious noodle soup that was hearty and flavorful. Their stir fried noodle options are also great and super saucy! Definitely worth visit :)

Wok Wok brings me back to my grandma's Malaysian cooking. The service is friendly & welcoming, making the dining experience all the better. You must start out with roti canai, the roti is so insanely crispy & chewy, with spicy, deeply flavored curry. For mains, char kway teow, bee hoon, nasi lemak, & white penang curry laksa are must tries. Each dish has its own unique flavor profile & truly gooood wok hei.

Decent Malaysian place in basement. Small line for late Sunday lunch. Menu looked promising Service is mid but on par with Asian spots in Chinatown First dish was beef rendang -- avoid. Not good at all. Small portion, inconsistent texture and too much cumin. Nyona's is much better. Oyster pancake was tasty. The hot pot rice was flavorful. We got the one with eggplant and salty fish. Highlight was the traditional watercrest veggie dish. Very well cooked and seasoned. Hainanese chicken was on par with everywhere else. Ended with mango sticky rice which is always good!

Review Disclaimer: I went to this place with some others, including a friend of the chef, so we were treated very well. Regardless of this potential bias, they make a seriously good white laksa here, which is easily what I would recommend the most, along with the Murtabak and ABC. As mentioned, I went with some people to this place a while back. They serve food from all across Southeast Asia, but are primarily a specialist in Malaysian food, and I would recommend going with those dishes. The owner is very friendly, and they weren't super crowded, but we were at a bit of an off-peak time. They've also apparently gotten a lot more crowded since then, as a bunch of TikTok and Instagram people talked about this place, which I'm glad about. I didn't bother with a drink, and we had tea and/or water, with me sticking with tea. First arriving was the very tasty Roti Murtabak, or freshly pan-fried roti pancake folded with layers of egg and spiced minced chicken with a side of potato and chicken curry as a dipping sauce. I have had this from a few other places, and these were particularly good, with the roti texture being much flakier than usual. The chicken inside was nicely spiced, and the curry on the side had a good depth of flavor. Another very good appetizer was the Beef Satay served with peanut sauce. The beef had a good char to it, and it was tender and tasty, and the peanut sauce was properly thick. This was also very good, and comparable to Curry House, while being better than West New Malaysia/Nyonya, with my only preference being Makan House, far south in Brooklyn. My least favorite of the appetizers was the Thai-style spring rolls, but it wasn't that they were bad in any way, but more that the other two were excellent. They were freshly fried and piping hot, but the filling was standard, making them the most generic of the other dishes. Still perfectly serviceable. The favorite of the main dishes was easily the Penang White Curry Laksa, or curry egg noodles with shredded chicken, shrimp, and fish cake, served in a coconut milk-based soup with a spoonful of their in-house chili paste. It was spicy, sweet, and savory with tender chicken, bouncy fish cakes, and perfectly cooked noodles. We were already quite full from other dishes, as this was one of the later entrees we got, but I used the last bit of savory room to finish this. This was better than the curry laksa in any of my previous favorite places, and was very decently priced. Would heavily recommend. They also had a good version of Ikan Bakar, or grilled skate, served with sambal. The skate was well roasted, and the sambal wasn't just spicy, but also had some other good flavors. Last was the Rendang Beef Stew, listed as an aromatic blend of their special chili paste, shallots, and lemongrass, and slow-cooked with fresh coconut milk. In terms of rendang, I prefer the dry style, and this was that type, but it wasn't the best, as some other spots have more depth of flavor. I also wish the beef chunks were a bit less chewy. The coconut rice on the side was very flavorful, though. Last was the Ais Kacang/ABC, listed as Malaysian-style Halo-Halo on the menu. It was a tasty version with a variety of beans and jellies on top of shaved ice with some syrups and ice cream. I would recommend it also. I liked the food here, and I am glad they are doing well. We had a couple of definite favorites, and I would recommend this place, at least for those dishes.

The food here was delicious. Laksa noodles were so good, and the secret menu crispy pork belly dish was my favorite. The crab Rangoons were good, which is hard to mess up on. I would skip the mango sticky rice unless the mangos are in season. We got this as dessert but it wasn't in season, so the mangos were hard. The service was great, but the wait was insanely long. It took us over an hour to be seated and they are a very busy establishment with a small staff. The ambiance was clean, and you take stairs down to eat. I would come back here because the food is really flavorful and good, but only if it's not busy and a long wait.

If you like New West Malaysia two blocks away, you'll probably like Wok Wok. It has a similar ambience but a slightly lower price point. One drawback right off the bat though is the staircase going down from the street level -- yep, the restaurant is located in the basement. Service was mixed. We had to seat ourselves and waited more than five minutes before anyone came over with menus. The food also took a while, around 20 to 25 minutes. Surprisingly, though, we were served tea without asking, and the manager did stop by near the end to ask how we liked the dishes and to thank us as we were getting ready to leave. The menu is elaborate, with every dish accompanied by a color photo, laminated and organized into logical sections, and bound together in a spiral book. We ordered two rice dishes: Nasi Lemak with Rendang (Beef). The rice wasn't really elevated by any hint of coconut, but the rendang beef had the bold, rich and complex flavor, reminiscent of mole sauce in terms of taste. Very tasty and satisfying. Thai Lemongrass Stone Pot Rice Bowl (Pork). It came with a flare, sizzling. The taste was forgettable but the temperature and texture of the rice grabbed hold of my attention. It was piping hot almost till the very last bite. We plan to be back for more.

Just tried this place out as so many ppl were raving about it!! It's ok!! Food was flavorful!! Portions were very small, I had to order 4 dishes to get full! Wheww!! A bit on the pricey side & don't even get me started with service!! You have to flag someone down, anytime you want something!! You order from the QR Code on your table so you can't even ask questions!! What has dining turning into?? I had to wait about 15 mins just to get my check!! So according to them, tips are calculated after taxes not before!! On the upside, they take credit cards & my chicken bones were all deboned & the entrance ambiance was nice!! Waitress was only nice when I left them a good tip in the end!! Sigh

The restaurant is located in the basement; the air conditioning could be stronger, especially on hot days. That said, the staff were friendly, attentive, and thoughtful throughout our meal. The food was decent, and the prices are very reasonable for Chinatown--honestly quite affordable by NYC standards. It's a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner if you're looking for quick bites and good food. The dining space isn't very large, so it's better suited for individuals or small groups rather than large gatherings. Overall, I'd come back for the food, service, and value.

I went to Wok Wok to try their dishes, but unfortunately it was a crazy long wait. We decided to get take out instead, and walked around while waiting for our order, which took about 30-40 minutes. Inside of Wok Wok was very cute though, with good space, good seating. Service was also great and they are doing their best!! When I got the food, I made sure to eat it right away while it was warm. The Roti Canai was good, the roti was crispy and slightly sweet. My friend really liked the curry, though I thought it was a bit oily for my taste? Maybe I like more creamier curries instead. The Panang White Curry Laksa was what I was looking forward to, but it also a bit too oily, and not creamy enough for my palette. Regardless, the egg noodles are the superior noodles (I got combination and only ate the egg noodles), and the protein toppings were cooked well. I'm really glad I gave Malaysian food a try!

This restaurant is located down a flight of stairs. It is larger than it looks inside but the tables were pretty close to each other. My cousin and I were seated in a tight area with tables on either sides of us. They asked if we wanted water or tea and we choose tea. I got the chicken rendang nasi lemak. My cousin got the tom yum seafood noodle soup and Thai iced tea (the soup was too spicy for her). I enjoyed my rendang. It had a slight heat but not overwhelming. The nasi lemak was flavorful and went well with the rice. The price was resonable and service was fast.

Had the chance to go to Wok Wok this past weekend and was so blown away! Immediately we were greeted with kindness and respect, and were seated immediately. The menu has a bunch of Thai/Malaysian/fusion options and we couldn't decide what to get because everything looked amazing. We ended up getting the following: - wings: perfectly fried and crispy with a delicious dipping sauce - roti canai: absolutely delicious. Curry was flavorful and most importantly the roti was perfectly cooked - hainanese chicken: solid, balanced, checked the box - white curry laksa: my personal favorite of the night. Absolutely delicious, heart broth with two types of noodles along with shrimp and chicken. Would come back just for this. Overall I had a fantastic experience. The prices are insanely affordable, especially with the large portions sizes. Looking forward to my next visit!!

I'd seen this place on TikTok and had to try it, and it did not disappoint. The food was exceptional. Not your typical Chinese fare; the Malaysian flavors are full of love, spices, and depth. The soup was perfect for the cold weather. I love the photo menu but I wish there was more description, the name of the dishes doesn't say much about the ingredients n the spicy level. Just assume everything is spicy. . Good thing the serves know their stuff n will help you order the right stuff From the outside, you might miss it since it's downstairs in a basement, but inside it's modern, clean, and inviting. Service is friendly, courteous, and attentive, which I always appreciate. Everything was delicious, definitely worth a visit. The only downside: the 4% credit card fee is outrageous, the only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five. Good thing I had cash!

We ordered three dishes that I had either enjoyed before or was familiar with: Wuxi Pork Ribs: The ribs were quite decent, tender and juicy, with a nicely balanced sauce. But there was nothing particularly memorable about them. The menu says the secret recipe has been passed down through generations for more than 110 years, but I found that claim hard to reconcile with what was on the plate. Slow-roast a slab of pork ribs for four hours at 250°F, I can get a very similar result at home. Famous Assorted Bowl: This used to be one of my favorite dishes here, and I ordered it almost every time I visited. Unfortunately, this time it was a real disappointment. The ingredients no longer tasted freshly prepared, well-seasoned, or flavorful. Instead, much of the dish had the bland, slightly lifeless quality of previously frozen food. Even the shrimp in the soup did not taste particularly fresh. Boiled Shredded Dry Bean Curd with Chicken and Shrimp: This is a classic Yangzhou dish and another item I used to order regularly. In the past, the bean-curd sheets were cut into extremely fine threads, with a soft and delicate texture that absorbed the flavor of the broth beautifully. This time was completely different. The bean-curd threads were hard and dry, with the texture of a packaged frozen product, and they had absorbed almost none of the broth's flavor. What had once been a delicate, carefully prepared dish now tasted surprisingly flat. Overall, Tipsy Shanghai used to be a restaurant I returned to for several specific dishes. However, both the quality of the ingredients and the care in preparation seem to have declined noticeably.

Lamb burger ended up as overkill and will be consumed as leftovers but a quick sampling let me know that it's gamey and fatty with strong notes of cumin. It would've been very easy to miss unless you're specifically looking for this place. Upon entering you're greeted by the numerous Michelin guides lol, front desk seated me pretty shortly after ensuring my seat was set, I was sat at the bar where they have a scan menu. Server immediately was attentive and filled my glass with some water. I was originally going to get the Dashi ramen but after I shared I'm allergic to shrimp the server felt it was a bit risky he was very careful so I appreciated that. I got the Tokyo ramen instead and a side of shishito peppers (he also omitted the Dashi JIC). It was happy hour so the appetizer was $7 I/o $8 and I also got an Asahi draft for $8. Ramen was $22. I was very surprised the server even asked about the oil the pork and peppers are fried in JIC of cross contamination - he shared that they use the same batch of oil as frying tempura (but I was ok with that but just watch out if you're like super super sensitive). Ramen: 7/10, decent bowl but not the best I've had. Feels a bit more Americanized and I prefer authentic Japanese ramen. Soup was rich, flavor but again it's one you can find at many other ramen shops in nyc. Noodle was a bit lackluster it was a bit soggy, not springy like freshly made ramen. The pork slices are flavorful but felt it's bit thin, I prefer a good cut...but personal preference. There's 2 thicker slices of marinated bamboo and half a jammy egg topped with scallions. Decent bowl but don't think it's worth $22. Shishito peppers: nicely fried. Well seasoned. 9/10 Overall - good spot for a decent bowl of ramen in the area. Environment: clean, nothing that caught my attention with design but just minimalist style, with black hard
