First I want to acknowledge how friendly the service was at Maxi's on Mott. It was as if I was walking into a fine dining experience, everyone was focused on making sure all of the diners were enjoying their dinner. I had the wonton, dumpling, and stewed beef noodle soup and added gai lan (Chinese broccoli) for health. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and both the pork and shrimp wontons and dumplings were incredibly flavorful. I would say that the broth could use a little more depth but not enough to impact the rating.

When we saw that there's no line for Maxi's Noodle on this warm Sunday afternoon, we quickly snagged a table for our family. Inside was still packed; only one table for the four of us. As soon as I saw down, I was drawn by the "menu" on the wall with images and prices for the items. We quickly decided that we want to sample various popular items, although it still took a while to determine the combinations. We ended up ordering wonton noodle with beef stew, triple combo soup with wonton, dumpling, and dace fish ball, and a dace fish ball with fried fish skin lo mein. Growing up, wonton noodle soup is one of the top Cantonese comfort foods. The juxtaposition between the pillowy wrapper and the plump juicy interiors of shrimp and pork is simply comforting. The execution here at Maxi? Exemplary! The wrappers were pillowy and almost translucent. A bite into them reveals a copious amount of shrimp and pork filling. Then, you get that flavorful soup with each bite of the wonton, just pure bliss. The dumplings here are also a lot more plump with fillings than those at dumpling houses that are found in Chinatown. These dumplings definitely refuse to let the wontons have all the spotlight. The rest of the items were just as delicious. The dace fish balls here were far superior compared to those found in freezer aisles. The texture is nicely balanced and not too chewy. The beef stew was tender and full of flavor. The fish skin was light and crispy. Although the restaurant is on the cozy side, the friendly and attentive service made the place more welcoming. If there's no line outside, grab yourself a seat and treat yourself to some top notch Cantonese comfort food here.

Heard about this noodle shop in Flushing but didn't realized they have a branch in NY chinatown. When i pass by into one i did Not hesitate to come in! Came after lunch time on a weekday & lucky to have a table right away. My order came fast, piping hot & oh so delicious. Taste different from the noodles i use to order but still good. I would definitely come back to try other combination of toppings. I took Out one star, because although my server was nice & efficient, there was one lady who was loud. She took her break in one of the table while i was there & was carrying on full conversation with her co workers like its her living room. Kind of distracting when you are trying to savor your soup in peace. Would still come back though, ill just bring earplugs next time

Maxi's apparently has the best wontons in town, and the long lines seem to validate that. I've been wanting to try it for a while, but the weekend lines are always ridiculous. My wife and I finally went on a Monday and, surprisingly, there was no line. I got the beef tendon with wontons and my wife got the beef stew with wontons. I also ordered a side of imitation shark fin soup. The shark fin soup was exactly what you'd expect, with a nice touch of sesame oil. But the real star is the wontons. They are very bouncy, packed with shrimp, and I can see why people are such big fans. Was the bowl of noodles earth shattering? No, but it was simple in a good way and everything was done well. The beef tendon was tender too. It is probably one of the pricier bowls of noodles in Chinatown, but I think it was worth it. The other unspoken star is the chili oil, which is fantastic. I liked it enough to buy a jar to take home. I'd definitely come back, but only if I don't have to wait in a long line.

The best comfort food and so yummy and good! After hearing all about the rave on Maxi's noodle, I had to check this place out. I got the one topping egg noodle soup that had the egg noodles and wontons inside. The wontons were big and filled with shrimp which I love. The soup noodle itself tasted perfect - not overly heavy and just right in terms of flavor. Also got the curry fish ball which is always yummy. It does get busy but things move fast and you can get a seat without waiting too long. Service is also good and they bring you your food pretty quickly.

Please don't tempt me with Maxi's Noodle 3 because I've been here over 3 times already and it HITS every single time. My mom is from Vietnam and says that the broth here tastes exactly like the Chinatown stalls they had in Saigon! It's a light but incredibly flavorful soup, with the biggest and juiciest shrimp wonton I've had yet. Delectable and cheap!

Okay, so H calls this place Flushing Wontons, and H was the one that said they opened one in Manhattan. I mentioned I couldn't find a place with that name, and H finally sent a map location and it's called Maxi's. H really likes this place, but I wasn't sure if I trusted H's tastes since H prefers the lesser known Sydney based laksa over the more widely known one that I thought was the best. I checked out their menu and I was seeing the articles mentioning their wontons outside their store front and I wasn't convinced. I never had HK style wontons where I actually enjoyed eating them and I don't particularly enjoy the HK style egg noodles that usually pairs with them. I went in and I was trying to talk myself out of trying this place, since I said, if this place has a wait, I am leaving. But nope, I got seated right away and they said their known for their wontons and duck egg noodles. Can I tell you this place has totally changed my perspectives on HK style wonton noodles. It is seriously the best one I ever tasted and the broth was so good. Filling and noodles didn't have a weird after taste like most places I tried HK style from. I saw they sell the wontons frozen along with their chili sauce, and I even saw they sell their red vinegar. I have never seen any place selling red vinegar. I would think it is their homemade one, but didn't know that's a thing where restaurants make their own red vinegar. The only downside is the one-time use plastic. I don't like them and especially using them in overly hot liquids! Also, the place is narrow and so yeah, you can't bring a large crew here. The lady I had, she was super duper nice and amazing. But damn this place got me craving HK style now.

Went to Maxi's noodles in the late afternoon in the middle of the week when it wasn't too crowded and was seated right away. Had the Wonton, Dumplings and Beef Stew Noodle Soup. Excellent Wontons - big and great filling with a lot of shrimp. Dumplings were also good, Beef Stew a little dry but not bad. Solid meal in a no-nonsense friendly environment.

The wontons here are some of the best I've tasted in NYC. They are so plump and juicy and packed with fresh and flavorful shrimp. I like to have the duck egg noodles with the noodle soup, but my friend got the flat rice noodles. The broth is heartwarming and hot and the food comes out very fast. I really enjoyed their chewy and tender beef tendon in my noodles as well. The Curry Fish Balls are also bouncy and fresh and not too spicy. Service was excellent. The waiters recommended we get vegetables on the side, but we decided not to. They refilled our water often and also brought extra chili oil to our table. There's one bathroom inside. If you pay with cash, it's cheaper.

Wontons, dumplings, and fish dumpling soup

Typical narrow restaurant as you would find in Chinatown. You don't come here for the ambiance. You come here for the food! Large wontons are full of shrimp. Juicy and flavorful. Same with the dumplings. Broth itself is full of umami made with pork bones, shrimp and fish. Best I've had anywhere.

After hearing raving reviews of the wontons from this spot, I had to check it out when I was in Chinatown. Maxi's Noodle has three locations, with this spot being their first Manhattan location. They have plenty of seating inside, but limit dining time to 30 minutes during rush hours. Service is quick. We ordered their 2 item soup, both with dumplings and wontons. The size of their dumplings and wontons were absolutely huge. They were filled with shrimp, pork, and other fillings. Out of the two, I actually preferred the dumplings. Super comforting meal for a cold day.

Heard this place was one of the top places for noodles and although super simple, it was very tasty! The place is your typical NY style feel with lots of places to sit in a smaller area, but the service helped with turnover and how quickly we were able to eat and continue checking out Chinatown. The dumpling noodle soup was excellent. It reminded me exactly of a dumpling soup I had in Hong Kong. The noodles were delicious and the broth was flavorful. The dumplings were HUGE and juicy and full of meat. Definitely worth a try!

The business name reference Chinese culture of calling adults "uncle" (suk1 suk1, 叔叔) or "auntie" (aa3 ji4, 阿姨) is a polite, common way to show respect, build connection, and bridge generational gaps. It treats non-relatives like family, making strangers feel younger and fostering closeness. The atmospheric decor contains very beautiful Chinese lanterns suspended from the ceiling throughout the restaurant. I believe it is decorated for Lunar New Year throughout the entire year. No comment for facility as I did not utilize. Customer service is average attentive and the staff is fluent in both English and Cantonese. I did not have to wait long to be served nor request the bill, and neither attain change. I often dine alone as a single woman and was regarded with respect for patronizing. It is always good to hear Cantonese spoken as it is mellifluous... at long last to continue this vernacular of Chinese language. I ordered in a mixture of both English and Cantonese. I was promptly seated by the maître d' promptly for a table. Melamine/plastic chopsticks in neon green and ceramic / porcelain china including ceramic Chinese soup spoon are distributed to customers while dine-in. A traditional teapot is also distributed during the duration of meal like large banquet hall Dim Sum restaurants. The large round tables contain a rotating lazy susan in traditional Chinese restaurant standard. Wow. No disposable wooden chopsticks and no disposable bowls for utensils are distributed at Uncle Lou. Price is slightly high, but worth the food quality and customer service. Uncle Lou did surely feed me! Shrimp Wonton noodle soup, Ho fun (flat rice noodles), shrimp based broth, $14.95 The bowl is gargantuan and the six (6) dumplings are good size portion served in ceramic / porcelain china. There are Chinese vegetable of one strand choi sam (choy sum) and scallions. The shrimp Wonton dumplings are a good size and good consistency. The soup broth is solid for flavor and consistency. It was served piping hot as steam was visibly emitting. The soup broth was slightly heavy. The flat rice noodles were sufficient for quantity. Noodle soup is Chinese comfort food and warms the heart. It sustained my hunger pangs throughout the day. Upon arrival the wait staff prominently announce to inform customers of 9% discount for cash payment and a 3% additional surcharge or fees for any credit/debit card payment for situational awareness. I was informant and made fully aware twice: upon entry when seated and upon receiving the bill. Uncle Lou complies with "Prohibition of Cashless Establishments, as of March 21, 2026, all retail and food establishments in New York State, including New York City, must accept in-person cash payments, banning fully cashless stores." (source: Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Local Law 34 of 2020). Oh! For small amounts of purchases, my default payment method is cash. Yes, cash is still widely accepted in the 21st century. Nota Bene: Have cash on hand to avoid annoying surcharge or fees. The bill is calculated and manually handwritten the old school way still a timeless classic. I paid my bill in cash including gratuity. No comment for Apple Pay or Google Wallet (formerly Android Pay/Google Pay) either acceptance or price differential vs. cash.

The menu is medium-sized, which I appreciate. It's big enough so that you have choices, but not so big that you feel overwhelmed. The flavors were so good -Salt & Pepper chicken with scallion biscuts: This was just alright; I felt like the chicken was a bit on the dry side and so were the biscuts. I would pass on this. Otherwise - solid dinner place, highly recommend checking out if you are in the area!

I've been to their Flushing location for dim sum before, but their entrees are even better imo. *Chinese Sausage Bamboo Baked Rice 金銀臘腸燉飯 $10.95 ** Such amazing value! So much lap cheong (chinese sausage/臘腸) and lap yuk (chinese cured bacon/臘肉) piled on top of seasoned rice. The rice soaked up all the oil from lap cheong and the sauces. *Sha Cha Beef and Vermicelli in Casserole 沙茶牛肉粉絲煲 $22.95 ** Almost every table ordered a casserole, and I was surprised by how much beef they packed in. The vermicelli noodles held onto the sauce well. Easily a "rice thief" dish *Sampan Congee 荔灣艇仔粥 $8.50 * The congee came out boiling hot. It was velvety, and loaded with toppings like shredded duck. Definitely eat it fresh though, because the heat from the clay pot makes the bottom start to stick together quickly. *Sauteed Lobster with Sticky Rice 糯米炒龍蝦 $48.95 (MP) * Many people rave about their lobster sticky rice online. It came with so many huge chunks of lobster so you can get your money worth it. There might be more lobster than sticky rice. It was also easy to pick the meat out with just a fork. *Fried Squid with Salt and Pepper 椒鹽鮮魷 $18.95 I wish it had a bit more salt and pepper, but otherwise the fried batter was thin and crispy. I've also never seen fried squid come in such huge, meaty pieces! *Honey Walnut Shrimp 核桃蝦球 $24.95 Skip. Walnut shrimp is usually a go-to, but this one was just okay.

The kind of place where the tables are big and the food comes out steaming hot and unpretentious. Let's start with what they're named after: the congee. So many places thicken their porridge with cornstarch or fillers, but here it's the real deal. Silky from long simmered rice. My personal favorite is the teng-ji-jook. It's a beautifully fragrant, slightly earthy bowl of pure comfort. If you've never had it, trust me, it's worth the visit alone. But don't stop there. The beef chow fun is a classic for a reason. Wide rice noodles with wok hei, tender beef, and not oily (you can see from the bottom). It's the dish everyone enjoys and it never disappoints. For something saltier, the salted fish fried rice and the salt and pepper fried squid are highly recommended. I heard the Dungeness crab is pretty popular so it was fun to pick at it while each person has their own dipping sauce as we wait for the hot food. We also got the stir fry Chinese broccoli which had a nice crisp and wasn't overcooked. I appreciated that. The pan fried tofu worked for the vegans at the table but even the non vegans kept reaching for it. I was surprised to see pickled garlic in my sweet and sour pork. It was so nostalgic, the way my grandmother would have made it. The lamb chops were perfectly tender without being too gamey. On special occasions, we get the stir fry lobster. It's the kind of dish you'd expect at a Chinese wedding banquet. Celebratory, messy in the best way. You could build a whole feast here just from banquet classics. Pro tip: if you're rolling with a small party, book one of their private rooms with a karaoke setup. Eat, sing off key and pretend you're at a family wedding without the formalities. Congee Village isn't trying to be anything it's not. And that's why I keep coming back.
