This place is really solid! The staff is friendly and the food is delicious! The portions are really big so it's a good place to share plates. I had the beef and broccoli and it was delicious. They also give you complimentary tea which was nice.
Ordered from both the dim sum and entree menu. Pretty decent food. Was looking forward to The Nancy Special the most and it is really homey, but I wouldn't rush to recommend it. Next time, I would just stick to dim sum. Pretty chill vibe inside for a Sunday brunch. Chill workers.
In the heart of China town, the food delicious. It's our second time here, we come for the dim sum on the weekend. My only regret is that they don't have the pushcarts
BLUF: 3.5 out of 5 stars. A mix of very good and mediocre dim-sum at slightly above average prices. We visited Ping's Seafood for dim-sum on a recent weekday. The restaurant was packed full with tourists and locals. We ordered: - Steamed Rice Noodle with Minced Beef 牛肉腸粉: This is a very good beef rice noodle roll; one of the better ones in New York City. The noodle was soft and silky. The beef mince contained scallion, which added a flavor dimension often missing in versions from other places. - Fried Seafood Bacon Roll 脆炸煙肉卷: These bacon-wrapped shrimp balls were very good, too. The dish was served hot, and the shrimp ball was done well. - Chiu Chao Style Dumpling 潮州素粉果: We've had better. This version was missing water chestnut. - Pan-Fried Stuffed Eggplant with Fish Paste 豉汁釀茄子: We've had better. This version was too soft and greasy. - Steamed Seafood Siu Mai 海鮮燒賣皇: This is a shrimp siu mai. The shrimp was mushy, where it should have been crisp. We might have ordered more -- the first two items listed above were very good, but everything else was mediocre -- so we stopped, especially since Ping's prices seemed above average. Other: - The menu seems to indicate a two-tier pricing for dim-sum, but our bill didn't match that pricing. - There are adequately maintained restrooms in the basement, accessible by stairs in the middle of the restaurant or by stairs in the front of the restaurant. - Tea is $2 per person.
Came back home to New York City to attend my high school reunion. Met a few longtime friends in Chinatown for lunch. Hadn't been to the area in almost a decade and most of my favorite places were gone. But Ping's is still around. I'm not even sure it carries the same name as it did when we used to visit it more than a decade ago. And the server confirmed that it had changed owners. But it is the same busy (and a little noisy) establishment with many diners, lots of steps, two stories, and some of the best dim sum in town. Service is very accommodating and quite friendly. I did get a fried rice dish when I ordered traditional sticky rice (cooked in banana leaf). And they didn't have any steamed custard buns (Nai Wong Bao). But we enjoyed lots of shrimp dumplings, steamed ribs, snow pea tips, squid, and even chicken feet. My friends and I really enjoyed catching up over a savory, delicious lunch. It depends on your appetite, but prices average about $30 per person.
I've been coming to Pings for years with my family but this is the first time I've tried the dim sum. It's definitely on the pricier side but there's no wait during the busy hours. It's got two floors so you can walk up the steps and ask for a table on the left side at the top. I tried the Turnip cakes, baked char siu baos, beef rice rolls, steamed spare ribs, sticky rice in lotus leaf, and the signature crunchy crab fried rice. The dim sum food was kind of average given the high price but we enjoyed their special crab fried rice. I think this spot is worth going to if you don't want to wait a long line at the other popular dim sum spots. I do think their dinner menu is better than dim sum as it has a better variety and quality.
What better way to start off the new year with dim sum? We made reservations for 15, which was going to be two tables but we ended up squeezing into one large table downstairs. With such a large group, we ordered multiples of a variety of dishes from fried shrimp balls to tendon to turnip cake to buns. Most dishes were $7 each and in the end, we each only paid under $30 --such an affordable and delicious meal! The service was good and everything was delicious. I do wish we got more refills on the tea, but there were so many of us in one table.
My family's been coming here for dim sum and big family dinners forever, but I had no idea they were hiding a secret menu. It includes my favorite shrimp lava toast, salted baked chicken, razor clams, XO-sauce oysters, and more. While the prices are on the higher side, you're guaranteed some of the most authentic Hong Kong favorites. Their attention to detail is insane, like even the radish in the beef brisket pot was perfectly cut into uniform pieces! For the best value, we usually go for their banquet dishes over dim sum. ＊Ping's Signature Roast Pork 炭燒叉燒皇 $26.95 ** Sure, you can get char siu for cheaper elsewhere. But the quality here is on another level. It was almost comparable to my favorite char siu from michelin star restaurant in HK. It melted in my mouth, with the perfect lean-to-fat ratio. The glaze was done just right,, not overly sweet or salty. ＊Soft & Crunchy Crab Meat Fried Rice 珠翠雙昇炒飯 $26.95 ** Ngl this might be the best fried rice in my life. I've never had "crispy" fried rice like this. Each grain was glistening on the plate. The portion was generous and packed with crab meat. ＊Shrimp Lava Toast 流心蝦多士 $9.95/pc * I dm-ed them to reserve two days ahead. It was a deep-fried toast, topped with shrimp paste and a whole jumbo shrimp. When I had a bite, the half-melted cheddar cheese oozed out. Super meaty, crunchy, and satisfying. ＊Lobster E-fu Noodle 石燒龍蝦伊麵 $55 No canto banquet is complete without lobster yi mein. We could barely see the noodles under all that lobster meat. The gravy was quite thick, but it clung to every strand nicely. ＊Beef Brisket in Broth 清湯牛坑腩 $49.99 It was loaded with beef brisket, and you could tell they used a premium cut just from the tender texture. Just a note that their servers are really friendly and patient. That's also a reason that keeps us coming back.
First time dining here for lunch so of course I had to bring along the fam. Definitely try to get the whole party there before 12 as by the time we left around 1ish, there was a line out the door for seats. We got here around 11:30 so there wasn't a line yet. We ordered their crab fried rice and a couple of dim sum dishes. Servers were also bringing around plates of freshly choy sum in case any table wanted to add some vegetables to their table (not us!). The crab fried rice was pretty good and the fried rice was had a light seafood flavor though I wish it was a tiny bit saltier. Table favorites were bacon wrapped fried shrimp balls, fried fish balls and the tofu skin wrapped with vegetables. The har gow was quite large and seemed to be freshly made. For some reason, we also ordered chicken feet and it didn't come out till we were basically ready to leave (definitely go in knowing what you want to order). Next time, I think I'll try one of their lobster dishes or maybe one of the dishes that require pre-orders.
This Mid-Autumn Festival, the squad and I decided to let our inner fobs out and feast it up in Chinatown. Ping's was everything we were looking for: old-school Cantonese dishes with old-school Cantonese hospitality. That means large portions, thick sauces and COMPLIMENTARY dessert soups (#IYKYK). The only thing missing was the complimentary big bowl soup starter, but I get that in these inflationary times, any freebie is a treat. Word of warning: None of the actual dishes look as artful as the pictures in the menu, but they're still good for the most part. We started with the Crispy Barbecued Quail, which was roasted to perfection with plenty of jiu yim (spiced salt) for dipping. The Yin Yang Fish, which sadly was not arranged yin yang-style a la the menu photo, was still scrumptious, featuring melt-in-your-mouth poached fish pieces across from melt-in-your-mouth fried fish pieces, with some greens in between playing referee. The Half Crispy Fried Chicken in Garlic Flavor was a bit dry, but the skin was perfect. And our Ginger Scallion Lobster over Vermicelli was everything we were craving that night, with plenty of carbs to soak up all that flavor. And that aforementioned complimentary dessert soup? It was red bean soup with sago pearls, a combination of two of my favorite Chinese dessert soups. Winner winner, autumn dinner.
Good solid staples. We had the short ribs in clay pot n the fried rice in pineapple. Both decent. It's legit. Want to try the more authentic stuff I grew up next visit.
Great soups. Best won ton soup in nyc. (So far). Hot and sour a little too sweet but delicious and full of vegetables. All dim sum very good. Thin and full of fresh seafood. Prices on the high side and Other main dishes very pricey.
Service was perfect, came in for dim sum today being Chinese New Year. Order a few items, roast pork buns, shrimp rice crepes, fish ball and beef balls. Restrooms were very clean, we noticed an A-grade from department of health, which is a good sign. Ambiance was very feative and the room was decorated in bright red with red linens.

Came for a family lunch and it was pretty crowded. Got seats in the basement. Service was good and quick. Ordered a variety of dim sum and kitchen dishes. Everything came out quick and hot. Steak was nicely cooked. Clams were tasty. Like the variety. Heard there are lunch specials so maybe will be back to try that. read more

Pretty solid sit-down restaurant in Chinatown that is maybe a little more expensive than other places, but if you want somewhere with a nicer ambiance this is a solid spot. Menu is pretty extensive and appreciated all the pictures. Ordered the sticky rice, beef short ribs, and steamed fresh catch of the day. When going through the options for the catch of the day, I think there was a bit of a language barrier and I was under the impression that the different fish were at either 15, 19, or 65 dollars per pound. I selected the fish that I thought would be in the middle at $19 per lb and when I got the check, turns out it was $90 per lb! The fish tasted great but it's never a good feeling when your bill comes out to be that big of a surprise. In the future, might be nice to have them write out the catch of the day with the price point just to make it more clear. read more
A Cantonese restaurant recommended by a friend in Manhattan's Chinatown. The traditional dim sum trolley experience was a big plus. Steamed Pork Spareribs w. Black Bean Sauce豉汁蒸排骨: An auntie pushed her cart in while I was looking at the menu, and seeing spare ribs, I ordered a basket. It turned out to be the best dish of the meal. The spare ribs were all small, tender pieces, the meat falling off the bone with a gentle touch, and you could taste the savory aroma of the black beans and the original fragrance of the pork. The wood ear mushrooms added a touch of delicate umami, which was a pleasant surprise. Steamed Shrimp Dumplings水晶鮮蝦餃: Although you could tell they were made with frozen shrimp, each dumpling contained two shrimp, and the texture was quite firm, so it was acceptable. However, the dumpling skin was too soft and mushy; two even broke. As a dim sum place, this har gow was a bit of a letdown. Crispy- Fried Pork Dumplings酥脆鹹水角: My parents thought they were just average, but I really liked them. The skin was fried to a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior, and the filling was salty, savory, and aromatic enough. Chao Chiu Style Dumplings潮州素粉果: Similar to the har gow, the filling was savory, but the dumpling skin was too soft and mushy. Steamed Special Soy Rice Noodle豉油淨腸粉: I didn't want to order this, but my dad wanted it, and unsurprisingly, it was a complete disaster. The rice noodle rolls were soggy and had no texture whatsoever. Beef Chow Fun乾炒牛河: A huge plate, literally shocking the whole family. Don't order this unless you're really hungry. The beef was tender, the rice noodles were fragrant, and the wok hei (wok aroma) was mostly there, but the seasoning was a bit bland. Adding some soy sauce would instantly elevate it. In short, this restaurant seems to do very well anything unrelated to steamed rice noodle sheets, but not so well with anything related to them. The ingredients are of high quality, but perhaps the pastry-making skills are lacking. If you keep this in mind, you'll have a great experience. The prices are very reasonable, and you get a 10% discount if you pay in cash. The environment is a bit cramped and old, but Cantonese will never mind. read more

Came here for a lunar new year lunch on a weekday with my co-workers. Service was quick, the waitress brought out a plethora of dim sum for us to choose from almost right after we all got seated. We chose the har got (steamed shrimp dumplings), pork shumai, fried seafood bacon roll, shrimp cheong fun, pan fried turnip cakes, beancurd skin roll and the salted egg yolk buns. They were all pretty good, but the fried seafood bacon roll stood out the most to me. If I had to pick on one item, I'd give the cheong fun a miss. There are better ones in Chinatown! Since there were only 4 of us, we only ordered the lobster ee fu noodles to share, in addition to the dim sum items. The noodles were $70, I'm not sure if there was elevated pricing due to the festive season, but we did think the noodles were well cooked and there was a good amount of lobster. The lobster was cut up such that it was easy for us to pick the meat out. We ended up paying $140 with tips. read more
Authentic Cantonese food in Chinatown. A must visit!! Btw, they do accept credit card (a lot of reviews mention cash only). Service is extremely friendly, and a lot of space inside. FOOD: Beef Short Rib Stone Pot (8/10): Beef was so tender and extremely fragrant. Would definitely be improved with just a little more garlic Fish and Eggplant Stone Pot (8/10): Another very solid dish, with fried fish along with yuxiang eggplant. Goes amazing with white rice! Barbecue Pork (5/10): Would skip this one, not that good and a little dry. Crab Fried Rice (7/10): HUGE portion, fed the 2 of us for like 3 consecutive meals. Solid but missing a little flavor (tasted better when we re-cooked it with green onions!) read more

I was doing a lecture presentation at Ping's. They have private dining room downstairs enough for 20-30 people with 2-3 round tables of 10. The menu is amazing! Steamed giant oysters with garlic and vermicelli: the oysters were bigger than my hand. It's probably the size of my foot! So good! Chicken 2 ways: half crispy and half steamed. Fried tofu, walnut shrimp, and salt and pepper squid all in one plate! Twin lobster with soft noodles: good amount of lobster meat. Steamed Black Sea bass Mushroom and bok choy: delicious vegetable dish Crab crispy fried rice: this is the best fried rice! Love the crunch from the dried scallops. The wait staff were attentive. Owners were super nice! Made sure we enjoyed the food and indeed we did! read more

Very busy since there was a lunar new year festival right outside. Probably waited 15 minutes so not bad. Definitely chaotic and confusing inside. The food was amazing. As a mostly pescatarian, I loved how many options there were. The seafood felt fresh. My favorite was the shrimp shumai, which had large, fresh chunks of shrimp. I enjoyed all of the dumplings though. The bean curd was also good! read more
Came in for a quick dim sum lunch. The cart lady never made it to the front of the house, so had to order from the menu.. which was fine, and maybe fresher... the quality of the dimsum is great. The beef short ribs are cooked perfectly and have amazing flavor. The fish in the hot pepper dish is very good, a bit of a kick, the fish is perfectly cooked. The beef and veggie rice roll was not great. I won't order that again, not enough beef, the veggie bits were too big, and they had the crunchy dough in there as well.. it had too much going on. read more

Had a really great meal at Ping's. A few dishes stood out to me and made the experience memorable. We tried the soy-braised squab, which you need to pre-order a day in advance. It's fresh (never frozen), and the sauce it's braised in has been developed over decades. The flavor was deep and layered, definitely something you don't find everywhere. The fried rice had a mix of crispy and soft grains and that texture made it pretty addictive. The Gwo Zing Zung (a type of Cantonese joong) was probably my personal favorite: hearty, fragrant and comforting, it reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. The beef short ribs in the stone pot were also great. The pot kept the meat warm for a long time, so even as we ate slowly, it stayed flavorful and tender. The lobster E-Fu noodles had a unique texture since the noodles are flown in from Hong Kong, and the shrimp roe on them was a nice touch. We also ordered dim sum, which Ping's is well-known for. Everything was clearly handmade and fresh. The steamed sponge cake (Ma Lai Go) to the rice rolls and even the steamed oyster with XO sauce. You can tell there's a lot of experience and consistency in the way they prepare dim sum here. Overall, the food was thoughtful, with a lot of tradition behind it. If you're into trying classic Cantonese dishes with care put into them, Ping's is worth visiting. read more

The dumplings were good, but the crab fried rice was just okay. It was very garlicky, and for $35, the portion was disappointing- only two small crabs with very little fried rice. We left feeling unsatisfied and still hungry. Overall, it wasn't worth the price, and I wouldn't return. read more

Walked right in around 12:15pm on a Sunday. We were seated right away! You order from menu-no carts like in some dim sum places. Service was super fast! We probably waited maybe 5 min before all of our dishes came! We had pork shumai, haka, shrimp shumai, beef ball, peppers stuffed with fish paste and turnip cake. All were delicious and pretty large pieces. Thank you for a great lunch! read more
We stopped by Ping's without a reservation for lunch on a Sunday. The spot is massive, with many tables both on their main floor and downstairs. The menu was huge and all the items, with a couple exceptions, were $5.95. The portions were pretty good and everything was yummy! My favorites were the black pepper ribs with pineapple, the egg tarts, and baked bbq buns. read more

Was very hungry so I wanted some dim sum on 11am on a Saturday and Ping's had no wait time, so it was perfect. The interior was traditional and very Cantonese focused. There are no carts, but there is a menu that lists all of the dim sums you can order and it includes the picture. I got the fish stuffed jalapenos, shu mai, chicken feet, turnip cake, and chive dumplings. I also got the Pu Er Tea. The tea was really good and the food came out fast. I think everything on the menu was good, but not mind blowing. The turnip cake and the fish jalapeno dish were my favorite things on the menu. It was close to authentic dim sum but not entirely. The chicken feet in my opinion could have been soaked in more sauce. The shu mai was good but it was not great. The turnip cake was really great though, it was perfectly seasoned and well made, the sausages inside were delicious. The chive dumplings were good but I think they needed more chives, just a personal preference. Overall it was good food for a decent price. read more

On a recent weekend outing to Chinatown, was in the mood for quality old school Cantonese food, decided to visit Ping's. I have been there before but it's been at least ten years. We were warmly greeted as we walked into a cozy dining room filled with other early evening diners. The restaurant was packed with families enjoying well prepared food which is always a good indication of the quality of the kitchen. We ordered the Crystal Chicken which is a chicken that is poached and served room temperature, the tender and silky chicken was delicious with the broth's flavor captured in the skin, every bite reminded me of the great kitchens of Hong Kong and San Francisco. Also ordered the barbecued roast pork which was good but would have been better if it was a little leaner. Also ordered the soft and crispy crab fried rice which was outstanding, some of the rice cooked to toasty crispiness, the flavor and textures of this dish lives up to its name. We started with the crab and seafood and the crystal veggie dumplings. The food arrived quickly and the service was very attentive. Will definitely return to try some seafood. read more

Can someone tell me how many people the upstairs room seats? Can someone tell me how many people the downstairs room seats?
Upstairs is pretty big. It's one of those restaurants that accommodates parties and Weddings. Stop there for dinner or dim sum and check for yourself.
Do they serve the dim sum on carts or order on a menu?
Both. They come by with the carts but if there's something on the menu you fancy, you can ask the server to send out specific dishes. Love them!
Are they letting customersuse the restrooms?
If you are dining outdoor, I think they will let you use the restroom.
