The restaurant was crowded but we were greeted and sat immediately upon entering. The wait staff was friendly and professional. It looked and felt like all hands were on deck. Like all scratch kitchens, the food comes out at a snail's pace, but that unfortunately seems to be the new normal. With that said, we went for brunch and the food and drinks were great. We started with the duck wings. They were tasty and definitely just a "snack" because you only get 3. I had one of their custom juices and the breakfast burger. this place is amazing! i came in a group with my family. there was a lot of laughter shared amongst us and we didn't feel out of place being a little colorful in this place lol. our waitress was amazing, very friendly and attentive. the drinks were phenomenal & the food was great. i had the OMG 2.0 Burger and we had deviled eggs as an appetizer. i'd definitely come back to try more on the menu! i also was pleased that my brother and his wife arranged for them to bring out a special made whiskey cake for me to celebrate being 1 year sober. it's usually made with pecans, but i'm allergic so they made mine nut free. it was such a meaningful gesture and a delicious cake. read more

This was my seventh visit at this location . I needed to take a moment to give everyone a little more time to get their lives together before reviewing it. On one of these visits, my date and I were sat down and no one acknowledged us for 18 minutes. Yes i counted and yes we got up and walked away. Not relevant to this review. This review is about todays experience sitting at the bar. The bartender (with the cool mustache that takes a good 15 minutes to fix) was super kind! I feel crappy for not remembering his cool name.. Forest? I'm not sure but it fit him. He is the reason I'd be back and opt to sit at the bar next time. Food: Chicken & Waffles- chicken coating was messy and one waffle was burnt but I was starving. Redfish-Amazing and a party in your mouth Mac&Cheese- JUST ORDER IT ALREADY OMG burger- Looked amazing and I heard it was pretty good too (not eating red meat so I can't give a proper review). Drinks: Watching "Forest" and the other bartenders make drinks was like some magical work of art. Amazing! Atmosphere 4 Yet the corner both we were in was like being in a cave. Very dark, you truly could not see what you were eating. For apps we had hummus and a cheese and meat board. Those two items were very good. We still had some extra hummus and stuff on the board. Waitress asked if we would like to have some more bread. We said, sure! They charged me for two orders of toasted bread at .75 cents each on a $240 dollar meal. Just flat wrong! They show there pricing at $$ that is misleading as well. $$$ for sure. 25 dollar plates at least with extra sides costs. The menu was not that great to pick from and from our table of 6 no one was really impressed. The chicken and waffles got the highest review. Two of us had the pork hop. Bj's is much better for 10 dollars less with much better sides. Two got the salmon and one was burnt. The last was a crispy chicken sandwich. It was graded as marginal. Service was also a 3 for sure. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. So over all that is why I gave 3 stars and will not be returning. Way to many better restaurants to eat at when spending 270 for 6 people. read more

Love the decor and setting, like upscale Texas, southern feel. I went here for a surprise birthday party & the food was delicious. After taking WAY too long to decide on what to order, I went with the short ribs & a side of brussel sprouts! They were DELICIOUS! Wish the restaurant was in arlington, very good food, attentive service, great drinks. Salmon dip and deviled eggs were great appetizers. I had the omg burger 2.0. Get it if you like those stone mustards with seeds as it is one of the main flavors you will get each bite. The burger came with these seasoned salty-sour chips that were the same chips in the salmon dip so I got to use my burger side chips also for the yummy salmon dip. Had the Winchester 85 cocktail. Delicious. Lastly, the namesake Whiskey Cake itself was delicious and I recommend to get this each time. Not dry at all like most cakes. It's a fairly big piece so it's good to split it with someone. Hubby and I had our date night here a few weeks ago and I've been trying to think of how to describe it It was super crowded but it was a Friday night and there was open seating at the bar and bakery. The bakery seating was great! I could watch them make them cake and appetizers! That's when I knew I wanted deviled eggs and the cake! The vibe is really interesting but upbeat, kinda dark in there, fun, romantic, all at once. I wasn't in love with the picnic table we were seated at once our table was ready, but there was no way to be picky on such a busy night. The deviled eggs were delish! The pork sliders were so damn good! Hubby had a burger that he didn't seem excited about and some chips that appeared more of a decoration. The cake. The cake was heavenly. Rich and so unique. Our server Shelby was friendly and attentive from the moment we were seated and made sure our drinks were kept full for the entire night. Everyone's meals were perfect (I highly recommend the salmon), except for the children's meals coming out with cold fries, which was immediately rectified. The emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients and house-made syrups and cocktail components was really great to learn about as well. The cocktails were amazing and we ended the night sharing two huge slices of whiskey cake, which if you've never had, you should try when you next visit. We had the Guava gimlet which was not too strong. We also ordered a variety of appetizers: thai duck wings which was sweet and spicy so the alcohol drink was nice to offset the flavors. The hummus with veggies crudités was my favorite. It has the right creamy texture and the roasted peppers were tasty. It is a great way to make me eat more veggies. I also got the ramen soup which had some soft pork strands. It was not my preferred ramen version and did not have then typical depth I am used to. For entree's: redfish with orzo. The fish was tender (a tad overcharred) but still enjoyable. The creamy orzo was delicate and complemeted the meal. I had the short ribs which was fork tender. To finish off, we had he whiskey cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This cake is a must and their shining star. Just be sure to share or do half portion like I did. Overall, the amibience was relaxed and the rustic decor with fresh planted herbs is truly Texas. I would recommend a get together with coworkers or clients.. or simply a family meal. read more

I called in for a to-go order which was a breeze! I ordered the Chicken Melt and asked if I could get French fries instead of the chips. First I wasn't told there would been and extra charge to change that. Second, I go to eat my sandwich, (which was cut in half) keep in mind this is rotisserie chicken..so if not done right you'll come across bones..unfortunately..this was NOT done right.
