Overall, we had a nice experience here. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable, which made our first visit with friends enjoyable. The ambiance was beautiful and created a great atmosphere for dinner. Now for the food--the main reason for the visit. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. Service - The service is always friendly. Our server is always smiling, and I can't help but feel welcome with southern charm. Tupelo Honey trains its staff well, and I really enjoy coming here and interacting with the staff. 1 Star. Food - I always begin with the Biscuits with a Cause. These light, flakey biscuits are served warm with a crispy exterior and soft, flakey inside. But honestly, the biscuits act as a delivery mechanism for the butter and blue berry jam. I always ask for an extra side of butter and jam because I use it all. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Honey Dusted Fried Chicken (dark). The chicken was perfectly fried, crispy, and sweet. They did seem a little busy and I believe there may have been a shift change at some point. It took us 15 mins to get a table outside. I will add the wait time is the only bummer in my experience. Tupelo Honey chose violence against my skepticism. First off... $20 mimosa flights. Whoever signed off on that deserves a raise and a hug. By the time I got there around 4, brunch had cleared out, so I figured I'd have a quiet beer and disappear into the background. Instead, Fred behind the bar decided my afternoon was now his personal mission. That man could probably convince a vegan to order ribs. He talked me into the smothered chicken, which I was convinced I wouldn't like. Turns out my taste buds filed a formal complaint because they wanted more. The shrimp and grits are still the heavyweight champion of the menu. If you're ordering them, do yourself a favor and add the waffle. That's not a meal--that's therapy. The beers on tap? Solid. The espresso martini? Better than the life decisions that brought me there. Tupelo Honey somehow manages to feel like Southern comfort food made by people who actually care whether you come back. I only managed to get a picture of the fried okra, but I also ordered the fried green tomatoes and the half sandwich lunch special with tomato soup, with a sweet tea to drink. All really delicious! FANTASTIC HAPPY HOUR SELECTION AND PRICES ! Happy hour here for the win, seriously! I had been to a Yelp event at this spot before, but my husband and I are always on the hunt for solid and affordable happy hour deals. This place was absolutely worth checking out. They offer a great selection of happy hour appetizers, but the real surprise was their happy hour entrées for just $12.95. There were about 10-12 options, and each comes with a side (about 7 choices). Score. We started with the fried green tomatoes, served on a creamy grit-meets-risotto base that was unexpectedly exceptional. Then we shared the happy hour entrée of cast iron pork with a side of Asian-style Brussels sprouts. To be fair, the sprouts would probably shine more in the winter when they're smaller and sweeter, but the pork was fantastic. Crispy and juicy bites all around. A couple of warm tortillas on the side would make that dish even better. We will definitely be back. The cocktails during happy hour are a steal at just $5 each. So let's talk about Tupelo Honey in Las Colinas. I was genuinely excited to try this spot, but overall it was pretty disappointing. I'll give a little grace since it was Valentine's Day, but waiting almost 90 minutes for our food just isn't acceptable -- even on a busy night. Now the food. We ordered chicken strips, meatloaf, a chicken salad sandwich, and shrimp and grits. My chicken strips were only mildly warm, the mashed potatoes were extremely salty (and I love salt), but the mac and cheese was good. The meatloaf was just okay, the chicken salad sandwich was okay as well, and the shrimp and grits were actually great. Service started off pleasant, but the follow-up was lacking. Our waters were refilled only once during the long time we were there. We also ordered soup that didn't arrive until the third time we asked about it. Once it finally came, it was delicious -- but having to ask three times shouldn't happen. Will I come back? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Maybe during a slower time, but definitely not during peak hours. read more

I started with a mule, but it was overly sweet, so I switched to a margarita, which was much better. For my meal, I ordered the steak and eggs, which were cooked perfectly--until I found a long piece of hair on my plate. The waitress was very nice, promptly removed it from the bill, and offered a replacement, but by then, I had lost my appetite. On the bright side, the biscuits with blueberry compote were absolutely amazing. I also got a slice of bourbon pecan pie to go, and while the flavor was incredible, the portion size was disappointingly small--a sliver rather than a proper slice. The fried chicken's just plain delicious, whether it's on a waffle, as a sandwich, or just by itself. Aside from soft drinks, they also have mimosas, bloody Mary's and some beer on draft as well; bonus points for the craft beer! The staff's super friendly, polite, and patient which makes looking through the menu relaxing. They have a huge parking lot and a good amount of seating inside, although it does get packed pretty quickly so get there early or be prepared for a little bit of a wait, worth it though.
