Once seated the waitress took a little longer than expected to take our order. The drinks were good and so was the food but the Whiskey Cake was awesome! 4 stars for lunch and 2 stars for brunch. I've been to WC for HH/light dinner, lunch and now brunch. Lunch was very good, with the charcuterie plate, deviled eggs, 3 people split a 1/2 sandwich and soup and there was still some left. Another had the chicken and waffles and it looked pretty good. I had the chef's special sandwich, which is always a mash up of something well known. This time it was a muffaletta. It would have been really good had it been an actual muffaletta, but there was not enough meat/cheese to make it muffaletta-like and very little of the olive tapenade. Honestly, it's been three weeks since I had this and I can't remember what else was in it, which if it was good, I should! Overall the lunch was good. The service excellent. But I would stick to the other main items on the menu. Today the brunch was more like some good ideas with poor execution. We ordered the jalapeno drop biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were really good, and the gravy tasted okay, but the consistency was more of a dip. Way too thick. We almost ordered some warm milk to thin it down some. But the service started out a bit slow, so we didn't want to take a chance. I ordered the Farmers egg benedict and my husband had the chicken and waffles. The English muffin was too thick and not toasted, as seen in the picture. The shaved ham was ok, but just not quite right on the Benedict. A dollop of guacamole didn't add or detract from the dish. Could have left it off. I was looking forward to stabbing the poached eggs and seeing the runny yellow, but it was a bit strange to see really thick yellow and almost runny whites. How do they do that? The "smoked chili hollandaise" was undetectable. It was a bland dish and finishing it out was a dish of small chopped fruits - not seasonal, but green and orange melons with some (seasonal) pineapple. My husband's chicken and waffle came with a couple of small pieces of overbattered chicken and a very soft, very big waffle and what seamed like watered down syrup. I pick up their whiskey cake each time I go and we love it. I was hoping to introduce my husband to a really good place for brunch. But I think I'll stick to lunch. read more

Our server told us that Wiskey Cake doesn't even own a freezer! I got the Bloody Mary bar and my BF ordered coffee and then a mimosa! The coffee was so good we left wanting to buy some! We both ordered The Cure which consists of a mesquite flour waffle, housemade sausage, Niman Ranch ham, bacon, American cheese, egg, and maple syrup. We were a little surprised at the serving size when it came up but were not disappointed with the size when we finished eating! The sausage and the waffle were our favorite parts of the sandwich but it all was SO DELICIOUS! We will definitely be coming back. Ps. We drive through Texas frequently and wanted to check out this place. Parked and called to order their Reuben sandwich (The Rachael), and was told it was still on their menu, that they hadn't done the "switch-up" yet to a different seasonal menu. The phone rep said we could give our credit card and they'd bring it out or we could walk in to pay. It was too dark to read the card in the car so hubby walked in to pay. Now here's the kicker: The hostess, after checking with the kitchen, said she didn't have our order and they don't have this sandwich now. Huh! Do better for your customers in the future. The waitress I forgot her name but she's Venezuelan and was sooo nice, really good manners, excellent service. The food was amazing! We came here after church to meet up with a friend for brunch, and to take my buddy who was visiting from out of town. Our choices were between this place and another, and this one won the luck of the draw; we ended up sitting at the bar, and good thing that we did! The braised short rib hash that I ordered was derplicious! I had mine with an over-easy egg, and it definitely did not disappoint! The combination of the short rib with the hollandaise, pickled onions, and potatoes+egg made for a good, complex favor. Also had a cup of the tomato soup, which was also good; simple, but had great flavor. We partook in some libations as well-- we we're sitting at the bar, after all. I started with an old fashion, and then followed up with a concoction that Andrew, who happened to be serving us behind the bar, suggested: the *C*old fashion, which is basically an old fashion with coffee. Oh man! Thanks to Andrew's intuition and ability to read our group dynamic, we had a few other cocktails, including some their location-exclusive stock of whiskies. We finished with their signature whiskey cake (YOU DO NOT WANT TO SKIP ON THIS), which was rich, but yums. Overall, a great experience, largely due to Andrew's attentiveness and friendliness. The chef/kitchen clearly know how to cook, the bar staff and management clearly know how to make drinks, and so we will definitely back to partake in more of the delicious food and alcohol read more

We visited Whiskey Cake to celebrate my Mother-in-Law's 89th birthday. We went early on a Saturday (5:30pm) and had just a couple of minutes wait while our table was prepared. The sweet lady that seated us asked if we wanted one of their upholstered comfy chairs for my m.i.I to sit in at the head of the table. She quickly swapped out a wood chair for the upholstered one. I thought this was the sweetest gesture and it was really appreciated. The decor is great even before you walk into the restaurant. The raised bed gardens and upscale lodge feel is really homey. The wall of whiskey was impressive and the ambience beyond perfect. Even the bathrooms were decorated great! Our server was hipster meets logger! They all wear suspenders and with his little handlebar mustache he pulled off the look well. He was very good at his job and explained specials, gave us background about the establishment (i.e. there are no freezers or microwaves at Whiskey Cake! Everything is made fresh). He was courteous, timely, checked back on us often, refilled drinks...all in all perfect. One of my kids had the kids mac n cheese and loved it. The hard boiled egg appetizer was wonderful. The adult mac n cheese was good but I probably wouldn't order again. Wine is what makes it adult. The salads are great, tomoto soup to die for. It was reported from the rest of our table that the Farm Bird was excellent as whatever cut of meat my spouse had! The Whiskey Cake was super good. I don't even really like cake and I loved this! 5 of us shared one slice and after 3 bites, it was enough for me. It is very rich and served with the best homemade whip cream on the planet. Dennis was our waiter/host and he made this visit like none other. Somehow he knew that he could be his authentic New Orleans self accent and all. Went to the Irving location on this last visit. In comparison to the Plano location, it's pretty consistent in terms of service and food quality. I believe that people have two kinds of foods that they go for at any given restaurant.... 1) Your GO-TO food (You order it each and every time you go) 2) Your rotation. (You're not 100% married to one food, but you have a few dishes that you'll eat) I've only been to this restaurant twice, but I'm starting to get a rotation going. There's not one specific food that I absolutely have to eat, but I have enjoyed what I tried thus far. I look forward to finding that one dish that I'm absolutely in love with. I've been to a couple Whiskey Cakes and it's about time I wrote a review! Whiskey Cake is a very Texas-y restaurant. Big, open, lots of wood and flea market decorations. Smells amazing. Little faux-light-bulb flower holders at each table. Loud. The last time we went it was on a Thursday early evening and we made reservations, which you really needed, even on a Thursday! It was packed, but we got a table immediately. Our server was friendly and cool. I will say this for this last visit - our food came out incredibly fast. You'd think that's a good thing, but we felt very rushed. We didn't have time to savor that first drink in anticipation of dinner. We were both a little spooked that the food was so fast - did they have this stuff pre-made or something? Or maybe the kitchen really is that efficient? - We got the pork brisket and a ribeye. You guys know the deal right? You and your significant other each choose something you both want so you really get 2 dishes when you're out to dinner! It helps if you both like the same stuff. Anyhow - both were very good. The brisket was very flavorful and rich. OH I actually got the Whiskey Cake for desert - finally! I was crazy starving this time so I got desert, too. It's pretty good - not my top desert and I wasn't like crazy impressed by it. It's a bread-pudding style desert with a sort of burnt-caramel vibe going on. Fun place! I had braised ribs and they were tender and delicious. I met a friend for dinner and it was a very nice place with a good atmosphere for conversation. The server was very good to leave us alone but came to the table often checking on us which I appreciated. You must try the whiskey cake - it's delicious. Made reservations for New Years Eve as a first time diner at WC. I'd wanted to try it for a while and I'm so glad I did. First, the service was phenomenal despite it being kind of busy. Second, the bathroom is clean which is always a bonus. Third, we ordered three of the whiskey cocktail drinks and all three were delicious. If you like cinnamon, try the campfire. Fourth, the menu isn't hugely obnoxious with so many choices you can't decide. I had the short ribs with spaghetti squash and ordered the Brussels sprouts on the side. The Brussels sprouts are flash fried and come out so crispy and flavorful. I'm glad I added it. My boyfriend ordered the steak with cheesy couscous and he loved it. Finally, we ordered the whiskey cake because that's star you do. I don't love cakes that much and I don't like pecans that much either so the cake was good on the first few bites, then I was over it. It is accompanied by home made whip cream that I could have eaten by itself. I won't order it again but you have to experience it once and I get that. I'm giving this a solid 5 stars. I only had one issue that really wasn't a big deal. The server brought our check after we got the cake, assuming we were done ordering. We were, but what if we wanted another drink? I know you can always add on but since it was delivered, we paid and left. Bonus points for complimentary NYE pictures complete with a green screen and props. We took four poses and the photographer printed it for us on an old school film strip like the scene in Beaches where the girls take pictures on the boardwalk. Plus I received an email of the pics so I could have a digital copy. That made up for the early check coming without asking if we wanted anything else. I just had the most fabulous lunch at Whiskey Cake! From our hostess Eden to our bartenders Tierra and Amy, and our sweet food runner (I didn't catch his name) there was so much class, knowledge about the food, education about the local sources that made the whole lunch a great experience. Tierra told us about each drink she made whether it was a cocktail or a freshly squeezed juice. The service was outstanding in spite of the crazy after church lunch rush. The atmosphere was cozy, but still roomy. The bathrooms were clean and beautifully decorated to match their farm-to-table theme and they had candles burning! The food. Shut. Up. As an appetizer, we ordered the roasted brussels sprouts with bacon and a fabulous, slightly sweet and tangy bacon vinaigrette. I ordered the Pork Ramen and was grateful for the rich, cinnamony broth and the tasty shredded pork. I skipped the nori, but the whole dish was delicious. My friend had the Farmhouse Ham Benedict and I stole a small bite. That hollandaise has just the right hit of spice and the shaved, local ham was fresh and packed with flavor. We had to try a piece of whiskey cake. You guys. Get - The - Cake. It's a moist, date-based cake cover with crushed pecans, served atop a rich bourbon en glaze and served with fresh, hand whipped cream. Tierra served us a delicious coffee drink of her own creation, a cold brew topped with handshaken cream, mixed with Bailey's and sprinkled with cinnamon. I enjoyed a grapefruit paloma before my meal. The food here is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is great. I'd recommend a reservation especially on the weekend. The rotisserie chicken with Brussels sprouts is yummy, as well as the chicken and waffles. My girlfriend always gets the salmon and loves it. I promise you won't be disappointed. So they say they make their patties with 97% brisket. I dont care if thats a lie. It was incredibly juicy and flavored beef so i believe it. Handmade buns always kick it to the next level. Whiskey Cake is a most welcome arrival here in Las Colinas. We have a dearth of good brunch spots, so this fits the bill very nicely. The decor is wonderful - very rustic, but elegant all at once. They also have a kickass herb garden out in front. Not sure what happens to it when the cold weather rolls in - guess I will have to ask next time I'm there. I've been in for both happy hour and brunch. I've never been disappointed with the food or beverages. Although I wish they would offer more craft rum drinks for those of us who don't drink whiskey (save your judgments!). My favorite thing on the menu hands down is the Adult Mac n' Cheese. It is some of the richest, most decadently gooey stuff you'll ever eat. And it's topped with bread crumbs, so omnomnomnom... The breakfast offerings are so delicious. Even their sourdough toast is amazing, and it's just toast! My farmer's breakfast was a cut above. The bacon was the perfect combination of savory and sweet, and the poblano grits are freaking amazing. Everything I ate was fantastic. The service is warm and attentive, too. Great food and awesome experience. First, the waiter was excellent. He was well versed in the menu, explained how they use and local ingredients, and provided his own personal favorites. I was visiting for the weekend and part of a party of 3. I ordered the farmhouse breakfast that came with bacon, eggs, cheddar/jalapeno biscuits, and some grits. Everything was fantastic and fresh. Portions were great. There was plenty of food, but they didn't overdo the size. The bacon was coated with a hot peppery flavor and the grits were a great thick consistency. I ordered a side of gravy to compliment my biscuits and was not disappointed. Another item to note - they sell candles which smell fantastic. You could smell the whiskey cream candle throughout the restaurant which put a nice dessert, yet clean smell into the air. For what I just paid ...... I think they forgot the rest of my food somewhere. The mixed drinks are drowned in ice and i definitely OVER PAID for that.
