Had I written this review when they first opened I would probably would be leaving a terrible review with a really low star status. I didn't understand why anyone liked this place, I hated my burgers I tried, I didn't even care for the chicken strips, or the sauces. What did I not like about the burger? I do not remember which one in particular that I ordered, but what I can tell you is this. I am not a fan of putting mustard on a burger. Now don't get me wrong I do like my mustard's, but just not on a burger. The sauce or something was really mustardy, and that was a real turn off. I refrained from a review. The chicken strips themselves were okay. I can't remember which sauce it was I didn't like. Probably a honey mustard. I am very picky about them. Fast forward to now, and why the change of heart, and why the 4 stars. Since early spring, or really since Covid hit I have gotten take out from here several times. I found a burger I really like from here, and also really like their onion rings. I know. Sound like an oxymoron to hate onions, but eat onion rings. Truth behind that is I can't have raw onions, but only cooked. The burger I do like is the rodeo single patty for me. It has a really good bbq sauce on it, with an onion ring. They also have really good milk shakes, that I have not ordered in a long while, I am trying to be a good girl. I am glad I decided to retry this place, and also glad I didn't write a horrific review to begin with, and am glad I stuck with my gut on this. read more

I have enjoyed their food in the past, but would steer you away from using the mobile app. This was supposed to save time from waiting in line. I ended up waiting 40 minutes past the target pick up time and calling to inquire if my order had been lost. The only explanation I got was in passing saying sorry we have been slammed. My daughter & I stopped in for burgers, fries, & a shake since we were in the area. My first impression as we walked in was that a big group must have left recently & they hadn't had time to clean the tabletops yet. We placed our orders at the counter & then found a reasonably clean table to sit at. Our food came as prepared, but as I unwrapped my burger & fries I wasn't overly impressed with what lay before me. However, I'm naturally optimistic so I picked up the burger & took a nice size bite. I waited patiently yet expectedly for my tastebuds to start singing. I waited & waited & finally accepted the fact that my tastebuds were as impressed with the flavor as my eyes had been with the site of it. My daughter voiced a similar feeling while eating her food. As we prepared to leave I looked around & saw that many of the tables looked as unkept as they had when we arrived. I was super hungry and the place we were going was closed. Decided on way back and the moment I walked in smelled really good. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich grilled with Tatar tots. I heard rumors of a burger place that opened up off of River Road. Sure enough, Jake's Wayback Burgers is located in the strip mall across from Fred Meyers. There's not a ton of seating here, but enough to accommodate an average crowd. The prices seemed to be fair, the portions were rather generous. I ordered a Double Cheese burger with fries and a Ninkasi Total Domination. Not many "Burger Joints" in this area have local brews, and even though this place had just 1 to choose from, it was better than nothing. While waiting for my food, one of the cooks approached me and asked if I would mind a 3rd patty on my burger being they cooked up 1 extra on accident. I gladly accepted the additional layer of cow. With that in mind....My Triple Cheeseburger was not only huge, but it was really good. The fries were just as good as well. Not steak fries, but not shoe strings either. More importantly, they're not soaked in grease like that nasty Dickie Junk's BS... My daughter had Chicken Strips, 2 decent sized strips with fries. The strips were strangely thin as hell, but did the trick for feeding the kid. I'll be fair when saying eating that huge burger, chowing on some salty fries and pairing it with the Total Domination was pretty damn good. While eating, one of the employee's told me of a possible 9 patty challenge starting up in the next month or two. I'm not sure if I couldn't tackle something of that magnitude, but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot!! If you find out I had a heart attach, I probably attempted the 9 patty challenge.... read more

We had order our dinner through the app last Friday. The app has been improved and makes ordering easier. When we got home with the order, we noticed the burgers were incorrect. When the receipt said NO ONIONS, you would expect no onions but they were all heavily loaded with onions. Since none of the burgers were numbered like usual, we double checked and tried to figure out which was which just in case we had them switch. None of them matched our order, but mistakes happen. When my wife called the store about the issue she was meet with hostility from the staff. My wife was told she needed to be smarter than the app and was called a liar. The manager got on the phone and before my wife could finish describing what the problem was, the person on the phone was yelling, calling my wife names, a liar and outright arguing. In these times, if you can't provide decent quality service, someone else will. I will gladly pay up and to nicely for customer service. read more

This is probably my favorite burger place in town. I don't go as often as I like but every time I go, I am satisfied. This last time I got a regular Jake burger, with the works. The meat was nice and juicy and the fries were fresh. I got a chocolate mint ice cream shake to go with it; nice and thick, very minty. Also they have a burger and shake of the month. P-lease! Just ok. The process of choosing sauces and sides makes the ordering process slow. Prices not bad for final product. Issue was with cleanliness and food preparation. I watched 3 different women Make, wrap and serve. Food being tossed on floor (along with used plastic gloves when they wore them) and greasy hands handing out to go bags. Most distressing was watching one woman handing off full serving tray to another while spilling food on the floor....they acknowledge it, laugh and turn back to cooking and serving the food. Even pointed it out to third woman which warranted another bit of laughter. ... meanwhile a safety hazard stayed on the floor. I pointed it out...someone grabbed a broom....and then went back to serving food without sweeping it up. I'm sure that their focus was on getting food out fast but for me, taking a few seconds to put the extra lettuce back in container or tossing gloves in trash (versus floor)...or cleaning up hazardous situations should come first. BTW....NOT a busy time of day. The people just did not care about cleanliness and public safety. Manager should talk to them about this versus his..."....they must have been busy." I was able to order online which was nice and even found a coupon since its a national chain. Fed 3 adults and a child for about $40. I do wish they had a combo instead of everything a la carte. Burger places are easy to find, and usually just okay. This one is squarely in the majority. DLW and I wanted a little treat after doing good with a workout, so we stopped here for lunch. It's clean and spacious, and not so tacky as a fast food restaurant usually is. They offer a pretty good variety of toppings, sides and shakes. They have a monthly feature burger and shake, pepperoni pizza and root beer when we were there. Their promotion currently is a challenge to consume their triple triple burger, that's nine patties and a like number of cheese slices on one bun, in record time. No chance I'll be taking that. We each chose a specialty burger, southwest chipotle for her, Philly cheese for me, plus onion rings and chocolate banana shake to share. Burgers were double patties and two cheese slices, plenty big for lunch. I thought the chipotle burger could have packed more heat, but they probably play it safe on that score to avoid complaints. The Philly burger was plenty rich, with loads of onion and mushrooms, but underseasoned and quite greasy as well. Onion rings were crisp and fresh, but the batter was too thick and too sweet for my taste. Shake seemed to be made with frozen banana, which lent a nice little chew to the texture. You can certainly do worse around here for burgers, but you can also find better. For the price it's about what you should expect. read more

Our realtor sent us a coupon for a free classic so we decided to give this place a try. The burgers were actually really good. Fries were too. Service was a tad slow and they forgot to take the coupon off. Probably would not go out of the way to come here again. Definitely better though than the other fast food burger places. read more

I love the burgers. I really do. Cooked well, fresh, great taste. My only reason for the 2 stars is the ridiculously incompetent employees. Multiple times our order has been messed up. Multiple times have I been frustrated because reading a ticket seems to be a difficult task. I keep coming back hoping "maybe they are going to do better this time," then I get let down again like the parents of Nicole brown at the OJ trial. If yuh like good burgers, check this place out. But if you LOVE having your order made wrong every time and it being like a Russian roulette of burger assembly, 10/10 recommend. read more

Super fresh tasting meat, and great buns! Haven't been here in years due to moving out of the area, but man was I missing out. I got a Philly burger with Swiss cheese instead of American, and man did it hit the spot! Very flavorful, and a fantastic texture. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings, and they were also winners. Pickup was incredibly easy: I ordered on Yelp when I was leaving work, and when I arrived at the store the food was ready, and still hot. A little, but I think it was worth it. read more

Came in to order takeout and none of the workers were wearing masks. They are even selling their own Wayback face masks, and not wearing those as well. The CDC even states "require the use of cloth face covering among all staff." You would think they would want to follow CDC guidelines to protect themselves and their customers. I normally love coming here, but the service was even poor. The girl at the cashier gave attitude while placing our order. While waiting for our order, we noticed that one of the girls washed her hands then wiped her hands on her shirt to dry them before helping another customer. We also watched one of the girls pack our order without gloves on. The manager was yelling at the employees threatening to fire them in front of customers. When we picked up our food, one girl said "have a nice day" with an attitude and the rest of the workers laughed. My partner and I believe they heard us talking while I was writing this review. Poor service and sanitation. I don't think I'll be coming back, even after the pandemic. This place NEEDS new management and needs to be REPORTED. Extremely unprofessional. read more

I have one been here twice, and for the most part I enjoy the food! It's cook to order which is great. The woman who took my order this time was far more kind and respectful, rather than the last one who was less welcoming. Usually I would give this place and average of a 4 star rating but this time I was a little disappointed to find my chicken was left in the dryer for a bit too long and sometimes I can put up with the taste of an extra crispy sandwich but it just taste like chard. Stopped by for my lunch and this was my first visit to the Wayback Burger chain. Where I am from we do not have Wayback so I was pretty excited. They serve up fresh beef on a flat top and their squishy buns were quite nice. I went Rodeo Burger (American Cheese, Bacon, Onion Rings, BBQ sauce) and it was filling and tasty. Better than Carl's Jr. and on par with Wendy's, a pretty dang good fast food burger. The bacon was meaty but the burger patty would've been helped by a little love from the salt and pepper. Pretty good burgers and fries reasonably priced. Not bad for the area, since it is new it is fairly clean. It is busy during the normal meal rushes so plan accordingly. However, with the preponderance of burger places popping up lately there are plenty of other options (5guys, Dickie Joe's, Burger Lovers) as well as the awesome burgers at Cornucopia. Their burgers, while good, will never match Cornucopia and I would rather drive the extra distance for a similar burger and garlic fries at Dickie Joes. But if your in the area, this place is worth a visit. read more

So I'm not sure what the deal is... but my gf and I were sitting side by side, in the car, directly at the doorway to this place, both reading yelp reviews... but her phone pulled up "Wayback Burger", and mine pulled up "Jake's Wayback Burger". The two had different reviews and star ratings. Since I'm sure I ate at the one within 45 Division, Suite A, I'll review that one. :) This place, to me, had the feel of an old burger joint. It was very clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was decent. I had the fried pickle and bacon burger, with O rings. In my estimation, the food was just a touch above Five Guys and a few touches better than Dickie Jo's. That's not tough though. DJ's can be bested by a urinal cake, provided the urinal cake comes with fry sauce and a warm milkshake. The portions were not large by any stretch of the imagination, nor were the prices inflated. I think I got exactly what I paid for, and I enjoyed it. I would eat here again... just to sample some of their other wares. They have a nacho plate and a 9 patty burger that I'd like to try. The only knock I can offer (since everybody seems to look for one) is that half my food came on my partners plate. But how big a deal is that... I simply reached an additional 10 inches to get my o rings. With a meal like that, perhaps every one of us should be reaching a little further for the food... calisthenics, of a sort. read more

I was in there with my family for the first time several months ago. We ordered a variety of food including burgers, onion rings, and cheese fries. The patties were formed by hand which meant that some of the patties tended to break apart while you ate. They were pretty good though and much better than having a frozen patty cooked for a change. The cheese fries were a very generous portion. The onion rings were okay -- they seemed like they were made from scratch as well but they were somewhat bland. I wish we would have tried some of the handmade shakes but we did not because the entire order was kind of pricey. Really the price was the only thing that was an issue. It cost about $28 for my wife and two children to eat. Compare that to what it would cost me to make the same thing at home and it isn't as great a deal as I would have liked. I have not been back because the pricing is more than what I would like to spend on a single meal when there are less expensive options available. The atmosphere was decent (floors were a little sticky) and the line moved quickly. I would recommend this place to others as long as they didn't mind the cost because the quality of the food is pretty good. read more

Our family of 4 went to try out Wayback because we had heard "they have great food"..... We didn't get that experience. We ordered, paid and sat down to start our 25 minute wait. There were more tables empty than full so I didn't really understand the wait, but not a huge deal. Once the first of our four burgers arrived we only had to wait about 5 minutes between each burger before we could all eat together. The burgers looked great but we're very greasy there was grease actually dripping out the bottom, the burgers were very salty and our fries were cold. Needless to say we didn't eat our cold meals. I don't know if this is how it always is but our first experience here was not a good one. read more

We ordered takeout here tonight, so my review is based on the food only. I ordered a junior cheeseburger and fries. The bun was soggy and smashed, there were about 20 chunks of onion, a huge slathering of ketchup, one small piece of wilted lettuce and the patty. It was a sad, unappetizing sight. After picking off half of the pile of onions, the burger tasted fine. Nothing better than I could make at home for way less. The fries were good. However, when I order cheese fries, I expect there to be... cheese. There were maybe 2 singles fries with a dot of cheese on them. It was depressing. Just got delivery from wayback. We ordered vegetarian burgers and were served REAL MEAT. We called the store and they refused to refund us even though it was an issue on their end. This is extremely upsetting as I have not eaten meat in 5 years and this restaurant would not even apologize for their mistake. Excellent burgers and perfect fries. I am guessing that they use the technique of partially steaming the burgers, as they were very juicy and soft. Did not like the hot dogs, too thick. The bottom hamburger bun was pretty soggy from the juicy burger. read more

If you stick to the classic, single, and triple burgers, Wayback delivers a product similar to Dickey Jo's, Five Guys, or any typical burger stand style place. The fries are ok, as are the milkshakes. The service has been fast and friendly each time I have gone. The two marks against this place would be it isn't always clean (not sure if they have challenges recovering from the lunch rush or what) and the price is a good 25% too high for what you get. A burger and domestic beer set me back a solid $17 once. Ok for the occasional lunch out with a bro or two, but not a place I could regular. You could do much better (and I often do) at The Rogue with their Kobe burger and a pint of locally produced beer. read more
