It's been a while since we were here, so we thought we'd give it another try. It has not gotten better. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The floor had food everywhere and spilled liquids. Dickie Joes is the BEST! I'm from Portland and they had one there that sadly shut down, but when I moved to Eugene I was elated to see one down here! We were there Sunday, Sept. 14th, a little after 4:00 pm. Understaffed, and one very young man was untrained and very slow and was clearly mixing up orders. More staff arrived as well as more customers, but still there was chaos. A man, 40ish?, the manager? was literally running back and forth between his office? and dickieyo's. Frantic. I have been in managerial positions and if there is a hint of a crush, the manager/assistant manager jumps in and helps wherever possible. He did not. He was clearly not on his game. Our dogs were terrible. Saturated in hot dog water. We didn't bother to ask for a replacement because an additional wait was unthinkable at this point. The fella that took our order was unfriendly, had zero eye contact, acted annoyed that we were there, and didn't listen. We ordered no onions and got onions on the chicken sandwich. Been going to this establishment for many years. We've seen a steady decline in food quality there and today's visit was VERY disappointing. I don't think that anyone should be working in the restaurant business that doesn't love cooking and their customers. There seems to be a decline in that work ethic and that will make it hard to return. I would really like to like Dickie Jo's, but... I don't. I had been here once before a few years ago for my nephew's birthday party. It has an old school soda shop vibe, but it only goes part of the way. They do it here and there, while the booths look like they belong in an entirely different restaurant. They either need to fully commit to the theme or don't -- but doing it half asses doesn't do it for me. I was looking recently for a burger alternative to Wayback Burger that also makes their own patties. Firstly, their website is an intrusive joke. It asked how I wanted to place the order and sign into an account. I didn't really want an account, and it had a guest (just using email), my google account, or Facebook. I chose ky email, but by the end of the transaction, it had access to my google information and had my CC info on file from my Google Play account even though I did NOT choose the google option. So I'm already not happy. I arrived to pick up my order even though I initially chose a delivery option (you actually select the tip for the driver first thing and then by the very end, as you are clicking to pay, you find out delivery isn't actually an option -- so why bother having me choose that and select a tip???) a few minutes early. My food was already ready (I could see the bag ready to go), but I had to wait 6-7 minutes in line to get to tell someone, so the food just sat. The lady in front of me had a pick up order and mentioned that she was supposed to have 3 drinks. She was given 3 cups and her huge bag of food to go and get those herself. Awesome. I get home and the food... just isn't very good. I got onion rings, but they were poorly breaded. The breading waa falling off as you picked one up. They were all like that. No seasoning of any kind. Just bland. There was supposed to be ranch (my youngest child had gotten fries with ranch as well), but they forgot that. And napkins. Considering the burgers with homemade patties tend to get messy and fall apart, these aren't things that should be forgotten. I got a double burger, added pickles and BBQ sauce and sauteed onions -- pretty much now I get things at Wayback. I have ZERO idea how the cooks thought that putting together a burger with veggies all over the place was a good idea. The BBQ sauce -- what little there was -- was on the bottom, followed by lettuce and tomatoes. Then a patty, then the onions, then another patty, then pickles on top, with some weird sauce on the top bun. Who thought this is the right way to construct a burger? Why are the veggies spread out everywhere? Why are the onions between the patties? The problem when you do this is it masks the flavor of the meat. Every bite ends up putting veggies on your tongue or the roof of your mouth. May as well just order a salad. And the rest of the burger? The patties were well done (which is fine with me). Zero seasoning. The patties have no flavor of their own. The onions were a bit on the raw side. The BBQ was so light it was unnoticeable. It just wasn't a good burger -- and really, it needed to be done completely differently. From the seasoning, to the cooking of the meat, to the burger construction. All were done very poorly. Unfortunately, this experience was poor from start to finish. The website ordering was inaccurate (no delivery after requesting a tip for the driver), the website used information I didn't provide to it, my food got cold because I had to stand in line to pick up my food that was ready when I walked in, napkins and sauces were forgotten, the food was severely lacking in seasoning and flavor and whomever determine how to do the simpliest of things like construct a burger has no idea what the hell they are doing. It wasn't a horrible experience from top to bottom, but it also wasn't good. At all. I'll pass on going there again. read more

The family, four adults and three kiddos, stopped in for lunch after a pumpkin patch activity filled morning. The ordering went smoothly, absolutely no issues there, but the service after we seated ourselves in the party area -- due to our group size -- was not good. The young man who brought out our order was incredibly rude. Starting with being downright nasty, because he had to search for us since we hadn't informed anyone we were choosing to seat ourselves where we did, to questioning what we knew we had ordered AND paid for. After the server made it clear we had broken the self-seating rule, which by the way, was not posted anywhere, he passed around our large order . . . hmm, the first clue as to where we were seated since none of the tables in the main seating area would accommodate our group, and two of us noticed the chicken add-on was missing from our salad. When it was pointed out to the server he got decidedly huffy, and responded by implying we just thought we had ordered and paid for the add-on, but did not. Then he proceeded to get really impatient when he was told the add-on was definitely ordered and paid for, because it was repeated back to us when we ordered. Never did he ask to see a receipt, which would've cleared the issue up immediately, and we were so shocked by his behavior toward us we didn't think to offer it up. Finally fed up with us he did take the salads back to get the add-ons, that were ready and waiting, because they were ordered and paid for. Things were so out of whack and awkward that I don't recall if he returned the salads or someone else did. Once we had them we discovered we didn't have enough flatware so my son went to get those since we were pretty certain the rude server wasn't planning to come back for any reason. Oh, and we have no idea what his name is, but suspect anyone who was working with him that day knows who it is. read more

I understand where I live and that this review is not going to change anyone's mind necessarily (since the parent company also runs Dickie Yo's (it's ok), Bill and Tim's (it's ok), and Mucho Gusto (not good). 100% local.) No one should be nickeled-and-dimed to have a decent burger when there are nearby options with comparable offerings. At least with the other nearby places, I know what I'm getting right away. I shouldn't have to pay extra for literally everything that isn't meat on a deteriorating egg bun. It could be better but in the several times I've gone here with friends "who really, really, really love it", I just don't think they can get better in my opinion. People seem to hold this place in high regard so perhaps I'm wrong. It's been around for awhile so perhaps I'm in the minority but it is too expensive for what you get. read more

I've been here a few times with my buddy and it is always good. Whenever we can't decide on food, it seems like we end up here. But both of us love burgers. The restaurant is always clean. In burger places, I always expect there to be a messy table somewhere, or several. That is never the case here and it's kind of impressive. Food is great. They've never messed up an order yet. The consistency is on point, which is something I'm a stickler for when it comes to restaurants. I want the same experience every time. I'm a huge fan of the truffle fries. If you haven't tried them, you need to! I highly recommend them. This is a place I will keep coming back to in the future. The burgers are quite good. We had the New Mexican burger (with a veggie patty) and the Rise and Swine (dead cow version). Both were really good burgers. The free toppings, normally secondary in importance, took the spotlight. The onions and other toppings were cooked well, kind of like the animal-style burgers at In and Out (but slightly better, actually). The only thing that was disappointing was the fries. They were left to sit on the counter while the rest of our meal was finished and grew cold. Better servers could do this. read more

UPDATED 1/12/18 Things have changed! Maybe there is new management or something because now the malts and shakes are about half the size they were for the same price. Today my cheddar bacon burger was almost bloody in the middle, they fries were so salty they were hard to eat and the staff was different and did not have that fun energy I enjoyed. The person working the register was very nice, but the line staff was different and had no joy. As I was looking at my wife's raw burger I saw someone else going up to the counter with their food also. This is a serious bummer! I really liked this place! I am kind of surprised by the 3 star reviews. This place is the okayest burger place in Eugene, and that is its genius. The environment is super friendly and the prices are very low. This has now become a family favorite in Sundays when we want to eat out but not break the bank. The decor is a nod to throwback burger places like an in-n-out burger, without being over the top. Just friendly and easy. Food quality: i see it as a little nicer than five guys burgers, delicious all around, sure a bit heavy (it's a burger, folks), but the truffle fries are fantastic and the burgers themselves are from home-made beef patties. Terrible experience. Bad food. Bad service. Waited in line at least 20 minutes to order. They had some soccer team party in the private room but only had one person taking orders for the party and everyone else. Then, we waited about 40 minutes for our food to show up. 2 of us. We ordered a wedge salad, bacon cheeseburger and truffle fries. When the food finally showed, they said they ran out of bacon for the wedge salad and offered $1.50 refund or a kid sized milk shake. I then noticed my fries didn't have the truffle on them. She left with my order to fix the fries and bring the shake. When I got it back, I noticed my bacon cheddar burger also had no bacon. I asked for the manager. A high school kid came over and said he was the supervisor. I told him the whole meal had been delivered wrong and that they should comp it. He said if they gave a refund they'd take the food away. He said all they could do was give a $2.50 refund for no bacon on the bacon cheeseburger. I said forget it. A few minutes later when we had mostly finished eating (and it wasn't good), another person came over and said they were making bacon and it would be ready in about 8 minutes. Did we want some bacon to go??????? Really? I reiterated that other places would comp the order when they got it all wrong. She said they couldn't do that. She said to come back some other time and things will be better. Right. I told her it wasn't likely we'd come back. And then, to top things off, we hear a kid working the grill rudely yelling "We were out of some stuff and we're busy. They think we should give a refund?????" The whole restaurant could hear. As a family we are always looking for places that fit within out budget but aren't just plain fast food. Dickie Jo's is a great in between place when it comes to that criteria. We often go here as a family as it is really great for kids. They even have a room in the back that you can reserve for parties, with lots of room wich makes it great for birthday parties. The food is always fresh and tastes great. One of my favorites is the Bacon Blue Burger. A clasic and always delivers. I also enjoy the fact that they have hard ciders and beer on tap here. The fries are crisp and the sauce is a great addition. Dickie Yo's is right next door and a great finish to a nice family meal. We come here often and plan on coming a lot more. The outdoor seating in the summer is great, and I do not believe we have ever had a problem with the service. read more

This review is for tonight's visit only. So I'll preface this by saying usually we have a great meal here and the place is run well and clean. But tonight, the place was an absolute disaster. It was a mess, and nothing was stocked. Obviously short-staffed. The workers that *were* there were working their butts off and were handling things as well as they could. The food actually was good and came out quickly. Fro-yo topping stations completely empty. Drink stations empty. Tables filthy. Pay these people more. Stopped in for a quick lunch after an appointment in town. There were two signs stating they were short staffed, so there may be a longer wait time. It was about 11 on a Wednesday, so not busy at all. I was a little sad that the attached yogurt shop wasn't open for business, but was able to finish my burger with a peanut butter banana shake. Staff was on top of everything. Eye contact, and a gentleman came after me and the cook let him know someone would be with him soon.
