DISHONEST, RUDE EMPLOYEES. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! Last weekend I found myself in need of a new key for my drill chuck. I went to Walt's and gave the employee the model of my drill, but he was unsure which key would be the right one. I asked if I could just buy the one that seemed most likely, and return it if it did not fit, and he said that would be fine. The key did not fit, so I returned the following day, but much to my surprise the girl at the register refused to complete the return. I explained to her what had previously expired, and ask that she find the employee that I had spoken to, however she was adamant about not providing any customer service. I asked to speak to the manager, but she just kept chatting on her headset and saying the manager wouldn't say anything different in person. I cant recall the last time that I saw such disrespectful behavior from a cashier, and what kind of manager hides behind a radio connected to their cashiers ear and refuses to talk face to face with a customer that has a legitimate complaint??? Since moving to the neighborhood a couple of years ago, I have been shopping at least a couple of times per week at this Ace Hardware, but Home Depot is only an additional 10 minute drive from Walt's, and knowing I am not dealing with dishonest, disrespectful people is worth the drive (plus the prices are far better there). Congratulations Walt's Ace Hardware on losing a long time, repeat customer, over a $5 customer service issue. read more

Lost my business over an $8 piece of cut glass that they cut for me, and wrapped in paper. When I got it home and unwrapped it, there was a chip out of the edge of the glass. They said they couldn't replace it once it had left the store. Mind you, I wasn't asking for a refund, just a piece of glass without a chipped edge. Perhaps I should have checked their work, and unwrapped the glass before I left. Clearly, it's glass and people can break the glass after it's left the store and then ask for a return, but I had been very careful with the glass and the chip was on the very edge of the glass. I've never met Walt but I have to imagine he's proud of his Ace, and he should be. You know, Ace is the always the "little pricier but good service" store and, for my two cents, the service is worth it. Don't get me wrong, if I'm just buying a board or a shovel, I can get it cheaper elsewhere and I can handle it myself. But when I have to get nuts/bolts/fasteners -- just stupid little items that I can find on my own but would rather just have someone help me -- Ace is my destination of choice. They've got great floor employees who are always able to help me (even if it means asking another employee for support) and that's actually very refreshing. read more

Great place to get something fast. Prices at times higher that home depot but it beats driving far for one thing.

They refused to take an item back even with a receipt and in same unused condition saying they discontinued the item. Considering it's an "Ace" brand spray paint item, I find it unacceptable. This is why people shop at Home Depot. Won't be returning here. read more

I've gone to those location about 5-6 times now, and it has always been a great experience. I am greeted when I walk in the door, and offered help right away to find exactly what I'm looking for. Will and Eduardo have helped me when I've gone in, they were both super knowledgeable and helpful, very friendly also. They found exactly what I was needing without wasting any time, and they answered all off my questions. I like this store because it's not overwhelming like Lowe's or Home Depot. The customer service has been exceptional everytime I've gone. While prices may be slightly higher than larger places at times. You can't put a price on great customer service and convenience of getting exactly what you need right away. This is my go to place for my home hardware needs! read more

This hardware store has great service. Everyone is friendly as soon as you walk in. Wes helped me several times throughout the day and kind/understanding/patient every time. They don't have the best selection and the prices are a little higher than Home Depot or Lowes, but you can't beat the customer service and quick in/out time. read more

Walt's is my go to hardware store. I have been served by Walt's Ace Hardware for about 17 years now and they almost always have what I need. Because of their apparent focus on things that are needed for older homes, this store often has items that can't be found even at Home Depot or Lowe's. Was in the store yesterday. Assistant (?) manager Wes asked if I needed assistance soon after I walked in confused as to where to find things. I had 3 items I wad looking forward and Wes took the time to walk me to each location and discuss my best options. I also needed keys cut for an unknown (at the time) lockbox. Home Depot was unable to make the key cuts for me because they had limited styles of keys. Wes said they didn't have an exact match but told me 9 out of 10 times, the "Y" key works. I was hesitant about having 2 keys made if by chance they wouldn't work. Wes assured me that if they don't work, he would refund me and said he would make 2 cuts for me and guarantee them. The "Y" key was bigger than my original key, so there was some concern that the keys wouldn't work. I get home and both keys worked perfectly. I am so grateful to have a manager take over 15 minutes with me to give me one on one time so that all my needs are met. It's easier to find help at these smaller hardware places than in the bigger Home Depots. I really appreciate the customer service I received yesterday. Thanks Wes and Selena! read more

EXCEEDINGLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I picked up a set of caster sockets at an Ace store in Phoenix yesterday; subsequently found out they were the wrong size. I tried to exchange them at Walt's Ace hardware store this morning and was told they do not accept returns or exchanges from other Ace stores. In my opinion this is exceedingly poor service. Ace hardware is a chain of stores nationwide; it makes no sense at all to let an individual franchise operate in this manner. It is an inconvenience to customers at the very least and is the reason I will not return to shop at Walt's Ace hardware again. There are plenty of other hardware stores out there with excellent customer service. read more

Don't shop here! They have no customer service!! I went in to buy a hose for my swamp cooler. There was a young kid that helped me cut a piece of hose. But he cut it too short. I went back the next day to exchange it and the manager refused. its a $4 piece of hose that they buy in bulk. Nope. its custom cut. yeah cut wrong by your employee! nope. can't return it, can't exchange. i was sol.. they are POS!!! read more

Bought a 4 inch Clogbuster for $35.99 the first time I went to use it blew up. When I went to return it I was curtly advised it was non returnable. I know I could have returned similar item at other stores which I will shop in the future. I found same type of product at Harbor Freight for $7.99 that's where I would buy one in the future. read more

Like many weekend handy- women & men, shop at Lowes & the Depot for the common items when we know exactly what we want and need no assistance from a store clerk. However when you need help out of a jamb or helpful advise Walt's is the professional to see. The clerks are knowledgeable, constantly looking for customers to assist and resolve your project dilemmas. They have a bolt room to die for as well as isles of self-serve hardware bins. If they don't have a strange item you are trying to find, someone there will give you an idea where you can find it. They are a little pricy, compared to the Depot's of the world, but guess you are buying service when you shop there that is much cheaper in the long run as opposed to a plumber, painter, carpenter, ect... Oh did I forget, clean well organized store with friendly well groomed employees! read more

Return policy on paint is bogus. Despite reading the Ace Online return policy on FAQ, unhappy with the paint, 30 days to return statement, Walt's Ace Hardware does not follow this guarantee on mixed paint. The store manager was more concerned that she would have to sell the paint at a discount. It isn't until you purchase the mixed paint that you are informed "on the receipt" (who reads those???) that Walt's will not accept "customized" paint back. That is a lie- back in June/July, I found (and purchased) a gallon of mixed paint returned, a misty breeze, on their return shelf-at a discount- and had another gallon mixed to match. So their return policy on mixed paint is contradictory - or they like to pick and choose which customers to help. And then she had the nerve to blame me for the purchase of mixed paint! My mistake was shopping and being a loyal customer to Walt's in the first place. Never again, I rather go to a big hardware store, they at least give the customer consideration and try to work with them if the customer isn't happy with their purchase. read more

Just left Walt's Ace Hardware. I purchased an outlet two months ago. Did not use it, Did not open package. I had the receipt, but did not read that no returns after 30 days. In fairness, they did offer a merchandise credit. I do not live on the west side of town so I did not anticipate going back so I refused the credit and took my purchase and left. This return policy is as bad as Best Buy, (which I refuse to purchase anything at). This just give more justification to going to the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. I've been going to Walt's for over 30 years. They are always friendly and go out of their way to help you and are knowledgeable in doing so. Yesterday, Edwardo patiently explained a plumbing repair I was attempting. He told me what I had to do and I could return any parts I didn't need for a refund. This has become a horrible store and i will never spend another penny there. I jad been there at least once a month for years. Recently i bought a jig saw there for a project. When i went to use it, it was defective. It was late, they were closed so i finished my project without it. The next day i brought it back, showed them it was defective and they agreed, but would not take it back. Roy, the manager, even admitted it was defective and made cheaply. He told me that if i wanted it to work, i needed to spend more money on a more expensive tool. Then they told me they would exchange it for the same saw, but they do not have any and if i wanted something else, i needed to pay more money. I would not pay another dime so Roy checked and said a new saw wohld be in on the truck in a few days. A day later i got a call that they are not getting any more of that saw in but they would give me a similar saw. Still wod not return my money even though as a corporation they wont carry that saw anymore because it was cheap. Dont go here, they have no customer service and dont value your business at all. read more

I will never go back here again. My water shut off valve for my toilet came off the pipe and I needed a new one. I was told by an employee not how simple it was to attach one to the pipe, which it is, but that I needed all purpose rubber cement to attach the valve to the pipe. I, like a fool, bought it ($6.99) thinking he knew what he was talking about. I waited the 2 hrs he told me to wait for it to dry and the valve came right off and I had to deal with the dangerous chemicals of the cement. I looked up youtube videos and found some advice that was way more helpful and found out I didn't need rubber cement just a pipe wrench. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and have gone to Walt's if I ever needed any hardware supplies but I will never go here again. Being exposed to a dangerous product unnecessarily because of a guess from an employee who refused to ask another employee for help or to confirm what he said to me has made so upset that I have felt unsettled for days now. Avoid this place. It's worth the drive to another hardware store. I bet my life my on it. Literally. read more

I can't understand why people would drive out to a big box store and fight the crowds where they are lucky if they can find anyone who knows anything about hardware.
