This is the worst shopping trip I've ever endured. Stopped in simply for some wrapping paper & tape while killing time before a show- what I encountered was a nightmare of an extremely RUDE employee & a customer verbally abusing me because of the employee's manner.
Yes, the store is a little chaotic around this time of year. No, I didn't have an issue finding what I needed (fully in stock which was surprising due to current demand). There were plenty of design options for wrapping paper & an abundance of tape, ribbons, tags, etc... all was well & I was checking out less than 15 minutes later. The young man at the register was very kind, but seemed tired & almost "burnt out". ...that seems to be a theme here. Because the next employee I encountered made my entire experience terrible.
I needed a bite to eat before the show- with the concessions area at the front on the way out, I opted to stop & grab something real quick. The ONLY thing available was Pizza Hut breadsticks. I asked about other items but the lady at the counter told me "I need to make more"... so, to be simple I chose to take the breadsticks. And noticed there was no marinara, parmesan packets or anything- so I asked if I could get a condiment. She told me "no, I have to make some". ...I asked if that would be possible & how long it would be. And that's where it all went severely downhill.
No one else was in line when I arrived at the counter. I didn't understand how a simple cup of marinara or a packet of parmesan would entail her having to "make" it. She ignored my question, again when I asked if it would be possible to get either. Pushed the box of breadsticks towards me & then gave her attention to the next person who happened to walk up a few seconds behind me. I know for a fact I was NOT rude or pushy, only said "I'll go ahead and wait here if you could tell me how long it will be until you're able to 'make' a packet or cup..." and was ignored.
The next person asks for popcorn. There was a full machine behind the counter & she told that customer none was ready & they'd have to wait- for her to fill a bag. ...they stand next to me, also confused why a 30 second task means waiting.
That one got tired of waiting & ended up leaving after 5-10 minutes. While I *politely* asked again if I could get a simple condiment. But this time, the lady who walked up w/ her kid to order decided to make it her business & begin verbally harassing me because I asked. Yelling that breadsticks don't come with anything & calling me a 'Karen'. So instead of being professional & handling the matter, the employee chimes in on the mockery, turns her back to me & tells the customer "sorry she's so rude, ignore her & let me help you"... wtf?!?
There is no sense in standing there & being treated so poorly. Walking away was the best option, but not before I got one, final insult hurled at me: "thanks for your business, b*tch!". Wow.
I certainly hope that isn't the way other customers are treated for asking a simple question & coming in with the mindset they'll be receiving the complete order of what they're paying for. Maybe she was having a bad day & the chaos of other shoppers was weighing... but I don't feel asking for a condiment should have been handled like that!
Granted, it wasn't in her control how the customer opted to involve herself & chime in on berating me. But, that wouldn't have taken place had she simply responded to my question or taken a moment to grab a packet or cup & hand it over the counter. It clearly wasn't personal since the poor young lady right after me never got her bag of popcorn, either. But I really didn't appreciate being snubbed then harassed over such a minor request.
My suggestion to this Target location: the blonde girl working the concessions needs some serious help with customer service etiquette. Besides her poor attitude & manner towards me, involving another customer to egg them on in harassment was unacceptable. It is safe to say I'll never step foot in this store again & will take my business where I'm treated with respect. No snack is worth being verbally abused & had I not already checked out I would have immediately dropped my items & walked out. read more
