I don't know how they do it, but this store always seems to have whatever I'm in need of, in a space a fraction of the size of Home Depot. And while I'm getting my necessity, I always walk by yet another item I wouldn't have expected them to carry. Example: I'm in getting keys made one day and as I pass the light bulb aisle they have one of those HUGE vintage style edison bulbs that is probably 12 inches tall, at a price close to what I've paid for them on Amazon. They do a great job of sharpening my kitchen knives every year, too. Next time you're in need of, say, FRN-R-50 fuses for your out of commission A/C unit, try out Karsten's. There's always someone posted at the door to point you towards what you want and answer your questions. read more

All of the staff at this location are amazing, but I'd specifically like to thank Rob! After trying to replace a few baseboards in our house and absolutely butchering the cuts, we called multiple stores and no one would help us except this place! I'm embarrassed to say but we had to bring our boards in twice to get the cuts the right measurements (our fault), and he did it gladly and laughed with us about it. 10/10, Rob deserves a raise! read more

I'm starting to understand why my husband is so enthusiastic about hardware stores. As a not very handy individual, I'm loving the fact that I can bring in something like a bolt or screw (somehow 2 disappeared during a re-assembly!) and a helpful employee will not only instantly recognize the size and type but I don't have to buy a dozen to put away ("just in case" ) never to be found again. I popped into Karstens hoping I might be able to replace the broken part on my blinds. Of course, they had it! I also wandered around aimlessly and spotted several of those "you never see any more" items that will be used as stocking stuffers and I found a treat for the backyard birds. I spotted a few gift items for "difficult" people as well. The store is clean and laid out pretty logically even to me. Assistance was offered and even options suggested. Went in to get a copy of a car key made. Dave who takes care of keys made it a priority to get it done. Went above and beyond to get me out of there with a working car key! Irked stopping in today. Approached at the door, asked where I could find a caulk gun, was told that "in California you can't call it a gun." Me: "Is that some kind of political statement?" Are we in Cali??? Curtis seemed caught off guard, was I agreeing with him? Or voicing my displeasure? Perhaps he was confused by my correctly worn mask, since his was hanging below his nose. Since I'm going through chemo currently, I really didn't want to hear political commentary from a guy who can't wear a mask correctly. The inability to commit to either being respectful of others, or obvious selfish azzhole I know to steer clear of, didn't have me feeling confident in the courage of his convictions, or any hardware advice. After I shooed him away from me by caulk guns, he could be heard bellowing at other guests. Each one got some sort of political commentary; Curtis seems to have a thing against California, reusing "in California you can't...blah, blah, blah" I wasn't the only customer who seemed to want to escape his realm. Most of the staff wore masks, which I appreciate. An older gentleman was stocking shelves, no mask. Also no political bs. I can see he isn't wearing a mask and avoid him. He may or may not be vaxed, yet I know he isn't masked, nor approaching me. Half-masked Curtis comes into the aisles I'm in a few times to follow up, "I'm enjoying shopping, thanks," as I quickly stroll away each time. Little bit goes by, comes into my aisle again, talking to himself as he looks for a part. Taking his time. I get the vibe he's trying to figure me out still. His mask now hangs on his chin. Full on chatting away with himself loudly as if I'm supposed to interact. Jaw wagging. After several minutes, returns to the phone to tell a customer he doesn't have a part. Ok, so he isn't full on nuts. I'm just freaking irritated by his whole demeanor. His approach, his slovenly cockiness, his stupid mask. Curtis needs to be more professional. Politics don't belong at the hardware store. Either wear the mask or don't. Stop trying to do both. It's disingenuous. Likely won't shop here for a while, if at all again. Due to chemo, I don't like to go where employees aren't masked. I don't want to give money to businesses that aren't inclusive. People with compromised immune systems are the ones dying from CV19, which is currently STILL CLIMBING to an all-time high peak. Why should I care about your business, your livelihood, if you don't care about mine? I'll spend hours at Home Depot. Opens at 5am, employees are masked. Store is airy, aisles are wide. Relatively empty that early. I get to be a part of the world for a while. The garden center is my zen. I'm redoing a vintage camper, so I'm spending a lot of time and money in hardware stores. Several times weekly. This Ace is less than a mile from my house. The Home Depot I prefer is about 5 miles away (there's a closer one, I don't like it). I mention the above because I'm hopeful the manager will see it and make adjustments. At the end of the day, every other employee was beyond kind, helpful, professional, and appropriately masked. Except Curtis, the maskless stocking guy, and the garden center lady (outside I have no issue with). Even the Ace guy who delivered an order to me recently was masked! So I dock 1 star in the hopes that the manager, owner (and others in my community) might see this and try to understand what that last TWO YEARS have looked like for someone who is at high risk. We are tired too. We want "normal" back. We want to interact with the world, we just don't want to risk our lives. Sole parent, 1 kid (whose life has been pretty messed up for years now), have some compassion and humanity and wear a mask. If a piece of cloth threatens your freedom, YOU WERE NEVER FREE. read more

I took 2 sides of a bicycle basket in, looking for a tool I could use to cut the metal wire to the correct size. In the end, Kevin very kindly cut the pieces perfectly. Amazing!!!!! When I asked "how much", he just shook his head, no, no charge! This Ace store has been my go to before, but just thought they should have a shout out for how accommodating they were to me. I was receiving alerts when I started my car that the key fob battery was low. I called the service department at a Buick dealership and was told they would replace the battery for $99 ! Thinking that was an extreme charge for a relatively easy task (they told me I would be in and out in ten minutes!), I called Karsten's Ace Hardware to inquire if they had the battery that I needed. They not only had the battery but would replace it without any charge for the installation. I had two fobs and they replace both of them with a two pack of batteries FOR LESS THAN $10!!!!! This is a perfect example of why we should support local enterprises whenever possible. The entire staff was friendly and have been very knowledgeable any time I have gone in with a problem or question. You get personal assistance with people that are your neighbors. The store is exceptional clean and well stocked. I highly recommend Karsten's Ace Hardware. Their staff of exceptional people will welcome and assist you. read more

This place is the hardware store to go to in this part of Phoenix. The staff are always asking you if you need help and are knowledgeable. I prefer to shop local. Home Depot is nearby. I use Home Depot for things that this place does not have. I would rather shop here and spend money with a local businessman than spend it at Home Depot. Even if it costs a little more. They pretty much have everything here that I need. Great service. read more

I had a great experience at this location. I found the staff to be really helpful and friendly. They typically go out of their way to help you and offer great advice and tips. They carry great products. John and Matthew were especially helpful and really went above and beyond. John helped me pick out a garden hose that I didn't know existed that literally changed my garden hose life! And Matthew was so patient and informative when helping with a product I was interested in. In the past, they also gave great advice about bringing in a picture and helped me solve problems on my own! Very personable and approachable at this location. read more

Amazing to have Karstens ace hardware in the neighborhood! They have saved us so many times to just ooo in and find exactly what we need. Also the drive up in the back to fill propane is the best and easiest way to do this. Also all employees so friendly and helpful always!
