Surprisingly, the dill scramble was really good (tasted some of my friend's). The thing that stole the show to me, was the turkey sausage. Turkey-based "meat products" aren't really all that fantastic to me. Turkey Bacon is kind of gross generally, so I was expecting not to like it, but it was REALLY good. Get some. Breakfast was mostly lousy today, sorry this place is not what it used to be. Really gummy blueberry pancakes, overseasoned potatoes, mass-quality sausage patty & ham, and tiny tiny fruit cup side. A few visits in 2013/14 were only mediocre as well. The food doesn't stand up to the better and more recent breakfast joints that have set up in Boulder. This place is far too cute and yummy to be in this little strip mall but it is. If I hadn't checked out the reviews before we went, I definitely wouldn't have thought twice about this place. I chose the banana walnut waffles after a fierce battle with the menu. Everything looked so tasty and I practically had to restrain myself form eating my friend's breakfast as well. Their coffee is also pretty good, but I'm more of a recreational drinker so take that for what it is. The staff were great. We had a couple people helping us because I think someone was training but they didn't hesitate to check in on us which can sometimes happen on a slow day. We were all able to personalize our omelets and other dishes to our personal desires. We tried each of everything from what people got and it was delicious. For a drink we got the Boulder latte, and that was great. I loved the flavor. I recommend trying that if you are in to coffee. A decent variety of breakfast items, including vegan options, but just average on taste. It's still a good option for breakfast, especially on weekends, at least it's better than any chain restaurants. The staff is fun and friendly, but the tables, both indoors and outside, are too close together - not much privacy or room for good conversation. We keep returning because it is a much better option than a lot of other places. Sometimes just being "good" is ok. Give it a try and see for yourself. read more

Well. I can't say how the food was, because we left after sitting for 25 minutes. Waiters walked by and we attempted to get someone's attention. But, no one asked us if we'd been helped until we left. Too little too late. Update- I gave it another try. Sat at the bar. Had a lovely and attentive waitress who really took care of me. This was the best eating experience we had on our trip to Colorado. We had breakfast and the breakfast potatoes are the best I have had. The Boulder Latte is perfection. Went there a couple of weeks ago. service was horrible. The waitress was more interested in talking to other waitresses than doing her job. I had to ask another waitress for my drink as it never came. They food took forever to come and then when it finally came it was cold. we were never asked how things were. could not get anyone's attention. When the check came it was wrong as they said they would put my bacon on the side since they would not be able to make it crispy for my burrito. they charged me for a side of bacon. $50 dollars later and asked for a manager but one never came. We waited to eat breakfast here this past weekend, and the wait wasn't bad because of the seating outside. It was very basic breakfast food with a lot of different options for all diets, served without any flash and with average ingredients. The food itself was disappointing, and my french toast was made with that white fluffy Wonderbread type of bread, which was surprising that a local cafe wouldn't pick something of better quality. What stood out here and earned some stars was the stellar service. The employees here were an absolute delight, and you could tell they genuinely cared about providing the best customer experience. They all seemed to get along and enjoy their jobs, and the atmosphere was great. I also gave some stars because I know the Walnut Café does a lot for the local LGBT community and cares a lot about giving back to the community. Summary: Food wasn't stellar but it was ok and served hot, but the service was fantastic and I will try to come here again to support such a positive local business. read more

love this place!! they have both indoor and patio seating - we have always gone patio since they can be quite busy. their food is always quick and delicious, as is the coffee. their servers are very friendly too! they had no problems with our friend's dog on the patio and there seem to frequently be other dogs there. highly recommend the pecan banana pancakes! read more

I was recommended this place by a close friend so we came to check it out! We came in around 11 am on a Friday and were seated right away. Quaint, cozy atmosphere. I wish the tables for 2 were a tiny bit larger. But that's okay, the food makes up for it! I had the Mexican omelette without olives and onions. So tasty and the salsa was delicious! As for sides I ordered the blueberry corn bread- oh my gosh, my favorite part of this meal. Corn bread was so warm and tasty! And I also had grits which were very tasty as well. My boyfriend had the Marcos eggs which I am definitely getting next time. Cream cheese with eggs? Yes please. I also really liked the coffee they served. Pretty rich. I have given this place two shots now and will never come back. The first time I was here I received poorly microwaves food and when I asked to have it warmed up it took another 20 minutes to come back out. This time I ordered eggs with grilled chicken and received maybe a total of one ounce of chicken. This picture is from before I even started eating. Walked right up on a Sunday morning at 8:30am for a party of two. We were seated right away, although the restaurant was very busy. The service was prompt, the food was terrific, and the prices are very fair. I got a pretty basic meal - eggs, bacon, pancakes, and coffee - but I use it as a benchmark at any new breakfast restaurant, and Walnut Cafe did not disappoint. However, the star of the meal was my girlfriend's Sunrise Sammie; an absolutely incredible breakfast sandwich served on rosemary bread. All the drinks here are great! And the service is lovely! And oh my god, the tuna melt will make your day. You do have to specify that you want it as a melt, it is on the menu as a cold tuna salad sandwich. Better as a melt though. Plus they have nice pickles. The wavy potato chips take me back to my days as a youngster. Crinkle cut is king! It's really nice to see the servers overcoming the challenge of their new computer system. I went to meet a friend in Boulder recently for brunch and recommended the Walnut Café even though I hadn't ever been. My friend however used to go all the time and she was more than happy to meet me there thankfully. One thing I really appreciated about this place on a Saturday morning was the very light wait. I walked in and we were able to get a table in about 10 minutes. Since I wake up ungodly early these days (babies, geesh) I had already had breakfast and was ready for lunch at 11. They had quite a selection of sandwiches and you could order them as halves, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I went with a half grilled cheese (made with 3 kinds of cheese, yum!) and a salad. It was pretty standard, but good. I also ordered a side of blueberry cornbread because how do you say no to that when it's an option? You just don't. While it was by no means revolutionary, it was a decent meal with friendly service and I can see why my friend was a regular here. I'd go back for sure. read more

This cafe is fantastic. There are a lot of healthy, not so healthy, meat and vegetarian options. I devoured the the Skip Scramble which is 2 scrambled eggs, Cheddar, mushroom, and vegan sausage. I got the potatoes and the blueberry cornbread as my sides. I especially enjoyed the potatoes, which were well-seasoned and spicy. Their coffee is pretty good too. I also tried the Boulder Fare Boulder Scramble, which has no eggs, just tofu and the Huevos Rancheros with eggs. The two dishes were basically on opposite ends of the salt spectrum. I enjoyed the Boulder Scramble more, but some might find it bland. I was especially impressed with the service at Walnut Cafe. They provide blankets for you if you sit outside, and despite how busy it was, we got our food really quickly. My friend also ordered a ginger chai latte that she didn't like (it was too gingery) and they gave her a regular chai latte free of charge and with a happy attitude. Prices and portion sizes are both reasonable. I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to return. I also had the Santa Fe Chicken Salad Wrap from Walnut A Go Go. It's spicy and tasty, but pretty messy towards the end because the sauce drips out. read more

This is the closest I've ever been to being in love with a restaurant. This place is SUPER FAST. They get your food out to you before you've even ordered! Ok well that's just not even possible, but it's really fast. The staff is incredible. They are my favorite restaurant staff I've ever met. The food is SO GOOD. It's so cheap, and the atmosphere is social and lively. The pie is to die for! Dana, the owner, is a wonderful woman! She donated a kidney to her brother! I mean come on! Also I LOVE peanut butter and I asked her to make a peanut butter pie which she did. It was the best I've ever had. For a while I tried to convince the waiters there to name a drink after me. It's called "The Neal Special". If you ever run into the server Micah, ask him for the Neal Special. He'll know what you're talking about. It's Chocolate milk with nutmeg and vanilla. Apparently just chocolate milk was too conventional to have named after me. I tried to get him to tell the whole barista staff about the drink, but I don't think he did. This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Boulder...so much so that the few times that I do get my lazy ass up and go get some food when the sun is still in the Eastern skies, this has been my go-to place. While the menu may seem smallish at first glance, the options are actually good, especially for vegetarians like myself. The location is accesible, the outside dining is comfortable, the espressos and coffees are fantastic and the price is right. I have few complaints with the Walnut Cafe....perhaps the main one being that they need to chage their paintings they have up. Got to the Walnut Cafe around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon to find a line of patrons waiting outside. Gave our name to the lady at the counter and had a short chat before being told the wait was about 15 minutes for a party of two. Didn't mind being sat outdoors enjoying the sunshine, but we were rather hungry (first meal of the day). Luckily, we were soon seated and greeted by the server who took our drink order (just coffee) and returned with water but then didn't return with the coffee for about 5 minutes. Our actual food order was also slow to be taken and I spotted another couple who were sat after us had their food orders taken by another server. The waiting aside, the food is delicious. I particularly liked their vegetarian options and ordered Dana's Tempeh Skillet. Alas, the server didn't mention they were out of tempeh so got the vegetarian sausage substitute which was fine. The side order of buttermilk pancakes was soft and fluffy and a great sweet addition after the savory. The Breakfast Burrito order from my companion looked generously portioned but I was enjoying my plate too much to sample any. Overall, the food made the wait worthwhile. I'm curious to return because I'd like to sample more from their menu and also see how the service is the second time around. read more

This is the best place to get breakfast, the energy is great, staff is friendly and fast. I never eat in because is always so full but is so worth it. I always call and pick up. My favorite is the pest quesadilla is delicious and filling. If you want something sweet try their pies! They are amazing and a good portion size. HATE IT HERE! They are SO rude and the food is not good. You want eggs and toast? Then maybe you'll have success here. Other than that, I can make better in my own kitchen. They're not accommodating at all and you get the feeling they just want to get you out of there the second you're seated.
