We were almost super sad thinking our beloved Doug's had potentially closed, BUT ALAS! They only moved their Boulder location to the shopping center Baseline and Broadway. Doug's is a quaint brunch eatery with that grandma and grandpas dining room feel, and the classic great tastes as well. Today consisted of Grandma's Hotcakes, and I chuck'd it up (which they add double the amount of blueberries or chocolate chips) getting both a blueberry and chocolate hot cake. The restaurant, tends to be popular, and though they were extremely busy, the wait staff was EXCEPTIONAL, being attentive to our water and drink glasses needing refills. We return to Doug's each trip we make back to the Boulder area as they have the quintessential Huevos Rancheros which my wife has yet to meet its equal. But don't take my word for it alone, go get you some pronto pardner! read more

These used to be exceptional as they seemed to be cut from fresh potatoes, but have changed to what appear to be typical frozen hash browns. Fine if you're coming for pancakes and nothing else. This weird fusion they are trying to do with diner food and Mexican just doesn't land. The "carne asada" burrito takes like canned beef, with the salty gravy and all. It's not fresh carne asada, nor maybe carne at all. Salty pot roast chunks in brown gravy and then smothered with presumably more canned sauce. Ordered a few entrees and nothing was really good for how simple it is. Hate the feeling of wasting money on a bad meal, such a bummer. read more

We have been going to this Doug's location for a long time. Started out when they were on Arapahoe. Service is a mixed bag. Sometimes you get a really good waiter, and sometimes you get a server that just ignores customers. This time is was an ignoring waitress. Had to get up from our table and ask for a check because they were killing time at the front desk. This was on-top of poor service throughout by what we could tell as a new hire waitress as we had not seen her before. Hate to say it but its time to give up on this Dougs because you never know what kind of service you are going to get. Food is fine. You just need to luck out on the server. read more

How does a restaurant lose long term customers? Doug's has it figured out, apparently. Maceo and I have visited Doug's at least one hundred times (no exaggeration). We ate there for years when it was located at its previous address, near Arapahoe and Folsom, and we've been eating there since it opened at its current location. Our most recent visit. And why we won't return. December 10th. I ordered the Carne Asada Papas, while Maceo ordered the Ranchers. We had a lovely meal. Satisfying as always. After the plates had been cleared, Maceo mentioned that Doug's always cooks over-easy eggs perfectly. When he said that, I realized that the over-easy eggs I had ordered as part of the Papas hadn't been on the plate. They had been forgotten. No big deal. The plate of food was so substantial- hashbrowns covered in green chile sauce, cheese, and carne asada- that I hadn't noticed the absence. When the server brought the bill, I mentioned the lack of eggs with my meal. To be clear, the server was very nice and apologetic, and went to speak with the manager (or the person who was filling the manager role at that moment). This manager(ish) person came over to the table. He wasn't overtly unpleasant, but nor was he pleasant. He said he had taken $3 off the bill for the eggs (which was fine), but then he proceeded to make clear he was suspicious of my claim. He said that the server had asked if everything was okay when the food was brought to the table, and I had said yes, and if there were a problem I should have said so at the time. I told him I hadn't realized at that point, but he was clearly suspicious, and was also clearly grudging about the $3 deduction from the bill. The manager had a choice to make as he approached the table. He could have said something to the effect of, sorry about the issue, I've taken $3 off the bill, have a good day. Maceo and I would have left feeling the matter was resolved. But instead the manager chose to make clear his suspicion, make clear that he was only grudgingly taking $3 off the bill, and not once, in any way, say, sorry about the issue. The crazy thing is, it was a very minor issue. People forget things all the time about all sorts of things in life. I know I do. So the absence of the eggs was the most trifling of things. But this manager chose to treat us with suspicion and not-pleasantness. He turned the trifling matter into something that was rather insulting. All over $3. For $3 that manager lost very good and long term customers. And did he really think that these two pleasant people were trying to scam him out of $3? That we created an elaborate ruse to get a $3 refund? It boggles the mind. But he chose to tacitly suggest that this is exactly what we were doing. A detail: our bill rang up on December 10th at 10:04:15A. The cashier is listed as Patricio. (Maybe he was the guy who was suspicious of our dastardly egg scam? The great egg scam of 2024. Not sure.) read more

We met some out of town guests here for brunch and the whole group was delighted with the location, the service and the food. The chilaquiles were crunchy and flavorful. The sausage was a perfect accompaniment for me. 3 of us in our group ordered this and we all enjoyed our meals. The portions are large so make sure you are hungry! Of course we always like getting another meal out of our leftovers, too. Our table of 6 shared one cinnamon roll and from someone who is not a frosting-on-my-cinnamon-roll woman, I thought it was a superb roll. The other dishes our table ordered were a breakfast burrito, the basic breakfast and the pecan pancakes. Everyone had great things to say about their choices. The only wish was that the pecans be toasted or something other than just chopped and put on top of the pancakes. The mimosas and Bloody Mary drinks were delicious and so reasonably priced! We were seated right away by friendly staff and our server was great and friendly. read more

We love this place. It does tend to get quite busy during weekend brunch hours, but the food is great, the service is usually good, and the bright neighborhood ambiance is cheery and comfortable. The southwestern items on the menu are excellent, and so are the breakfast and lunch standards (pancakes, eggs, omelettes; burgers, Reubens, etc.). This is a new addition to the Basemar shopping center. It has undergone a lot of changes in recent years. Many years ago, this space was a French Bakery and later a different breakfast oriented restaurant. Though it will take a while for the new businesses to make this shopping center vibrant again. Bu there is now promise. The advantage to a situation like this is that for Boulder, there is lots of free and accessible parking. It has a convenient spot to access, being near the junction of Baseline, Broadway and near the accessory to US 36. They do have a broad based menu and they are waiting on an alcohol license here. The former version of this restaurant, in a differernt part of town did not. They still have a lot of the original menu items but seems to have added a few categories and undergone a slight name change, not sure about ownership. I expect them to be very busy on weekends as Boulder is a big brunch location but on a weekday morning, we had our pick of nicely covered and spaced patio tables. Much bigger, safer and more friendly outdoor space than before. Also, the indoor space is bright, airy and pleasant. Much more cheerful and well lit than the other space. The food was fine, the portions were huge, if anything, so big for me as to be a bit overwhelming. But the prices are quite moderate, especially for Boulder. I would like them to include more blueberries in the pancake though. And perhaps offer a much smaller portion on the orange juice. My husband enjoyed his meal too, But even he could not finish his. I am sure we will be back again. And I am really glad they are helping revitalize this shopping center. read more

Wow. Where do I even begin? There is so much to say about my colossal amount of time spent in this restaurant. I walked in hoping to sit down and get a quick bite with my family. Little did I know, I was in for a wild ride. As we sat down and placed our order, I was looking forward to eat my food. However, as 20 minutes turned into 30 and 30 into 40, 40 turned into two hours with NO FOOD! Ridiculous. Time after time they kept telling us 10 more minutes. (It was nowhere near 10 minutes). When the food finally came out, I proceeded to eat the most mid food ever. The funny part was when I was handed the check. I chuckled to myself and was so distraught as to how my food could've possibly cost that much. Definitely NOT worth the wait and I will never dine here again. I encourage all of you to STAY AWAY! I got the waffle with eggs and sausage and my husband go the pancakes. OMG he go two pancakes with eggs and the turkey and jalapeño sausage. The pancakes we so huge we took them home after he ate his fill and shared them for breakfast the next morning and even on the next day the were delicious! My sausage was delicious but my husband said the turkey sausage was dry. Coffee was better than most and if you want an expresso drink they have them too. I would definitely go back. Sophia, my server, was extremely friendly and attentive without being overly pushy. I made an error in order my coffee and she was swift to make both and allowed me to try them both! The omelette was perfectly cooked and all the ingredients were extremely fresh. The banana bread wasn't a superstar, however was your typical banana bread. Mateo popped over to make sure everything was ok, so between the two of them, we were well taken care of! Friendly and happy staff, just what I like and appreciate I am a big breakfast person and I will come back to this restaurant every time I visit Boulder. The breakfast was fantastic! Next time I think I should splurge and try the cinnamon roll! I especially liked the way they treated my granddaughter and let her color a picture that was promptly hung on the entrance wall, which made her very happy. The basic breakfast is excellent! Eggs, bacon or sausage, hashbrowns, and a panfried biscuit. The Panfried biscuit is especially good. Don't be in a hurry and don't be surprised if it takes a while to be seated even if the restaurant is mostly empty. It will likely take 15 or 20 minutes or maybe even longer get your food after you order. Your order may not arrive as expected. For instance, you might get eggs over easy instead of the scrambled that you ordered but of course they can correct it. Many tables have a nice view of the foothills to the west of Boulder. Very pretty. Oh l almost forgot your breakfast comes with a little tiny paper cup full of delicious jam. read more
