I'm in the East Bay again. I never been in this part of Concord. Fried chicken is soul food. I don't have fried chicken everyday. I don't get how some people out there can have fried chicken everyday. But fried chicken, is glorious. This looks like a fried chicken shack. When I arrived, the television here happen to be showing reruns of Breaking Bad. It was at the part about Jane Margolis. I already saw it, but it was good seeing it again. Anyways, it was unusually empty here when it should be packed. They say the American G.I. brought fried chicken to South Korea. A lot of people out there regard Korean fried chicken as the superior fried chicken. The best fried chicken are double fried. It makes it extra crunchy. A lot of people out there have all sorts of different versions of party wings. They were some big wings, for what it was. I went with the Yang-Nyum. It got Gochujang in the sauce. And I was thinking it was only going to be coated like a lot of other wings out there, but these absorbed a lot of the sauce. Some people out there say they don't like Sweet Potato unless it's boiled, roasted, or baked. I always liked Sweet Potato Fries. It was scrumptious. This is probably one of the better Korean fried chicken places on this side of the bridge! Perfectly crispy, not saturated in oil upon being served, and excellent flavor. Tried 3 of the 4 fried chicken options and was satisfied with each flavor! My favorite by far was they honey butter chicken which was both sweet and savory. Ordered a side of sweet potato fries to accompany the meal as well. The fries were the only thing average about the food. As for the service we were promptly greeted and our order was taken relatively quick. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She was always quick to refill waters and provide extra napkins and we never felt like we had to hunt down our waitress for any other need. Overall I was extremely satisfied with our experience here! Now in regards to the previous reviews about pests and the restaurant being closed, I cannot speak to that as I did not know that prior to coming here. This is by far some of the best service and chicken! Multiple languages spoken, fast service, asked for extra spicy and I think they delivered! When you start selling chicken that's stabbed to death in the deep fryer, you know it's time to close shop and revise your business, recipes and the slightest drop of pride you might have left in the product you offer. As a specialty chicken eatery, all you do is chicken. How do you, in all your right minds, sell trash like this? The drumsticks I ordered were only edible from one side, because they were stabbed on the other side while in the fryer which caused the chicken to become super chewy, and crust burnt. This chicken was a big regret, and i hope Vons Chicken re considers their intentions in existing as a business. We ordered the rice cake (very spicy so beware), half spicy crunchy wings and half mild. I really enjoyed the rice cake and the texture. The wings were good, but dry. We had the boneless so maybe that's why it was dry, but it lacked the sauce. I felt like the sauce was drizzled lightly over the chicken so wasn't as flavorful as the pictures looked. I will come back because my son really loved the mild wings. I just hope I get more sauce on the chicken next time. As for service, there was only 1 person taking care of the 3 tables with patrons and there were a few takeouts. Can you say, overhyped and overpriced?! I never understood how places can charge $1 for a chicken wing... especially when they're just average. My hunt for tasty local chicken wings continues... I was in the area one night and decided to finally try this spot out. It wasn't Wing Wednesday, but my cravings still got the best of me of course. I had heard good things about Von's, especially from the Oakland location which I haven't yet been to. I walked in and definitely wasn't warmly greeted... I literally waited for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. I guess that was the first sign. When I finally did get acknowledged, I was given a menu and I sat down at the counter. I decided to get my order to-go this time around since I had some other things that I needed to get done that day. Looking at the menu, the price for these wings seemed a bit steep. $12 for 10 wings with a $1.50 upcharge... because they're wings. And this is JUST for the wings; no sides included. Um, what?! That's just too pricey for my liking. But I was already there and my craving wasn't subsiding, so I bit the bullet and ordered. They have several different flavors available as well many different sides including fries and kimchi fried rice. I decided to order a half size (10 wings) of their garlic chicken wings. As I waited, I scoped out the interior. There weren't many people inside, but it seemed like a nice spot to catch a game or to chow down on some wings after watching a movie since the theater is near by. Nothing too spectacular about the decor, but they have a decent amount of seating and a TV that's located on the back wall. I also noticed that they have a counter/bar top located right up front. I will say that their bathroom was immaculately clean and had an automatic air freshener inside which was an added bonus! It took them a while to prepare the wings, but they did offer me water while I waited. When my order finally arrived, the aroma of garlic happily graced my nose. They definitely smelled good, and for a moment I contemplated whether they might actually be worth the price. Unfortunately, they weren't. They weren't bad, but they weren't a home run either. I could definitely taste the garlic, but it was still lacking flavor. As much as I love sauce on my wings, these wings were just way too saucey for my taste. I probably should have ordered a side of something because I was still hungry after eating the wings. In true Korean fried chicken fashion, you don't have to worry about the chicken getting soggy in transit when you order for takeout - At least for the ones that aren't covered in sauce. I'd pass by this Korean fried chicken spot every time I'd watch a movie at Brenden Theatres (Pre-Covid). Well, I am a total fan. This chicken here is amazing and everything fried chicken should be- crispy, crunchy, sweet, salty, spicy, juicy, you name it! We ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken (mild), Honey Butter, and Crispy Yang Yum (spicy) to taste a variety of flavors for our first time. You can also choose oven baked but it's Korean fried chicken for the win! I believe it's the double frying technique they use that helps create a crispier texture and it's less oily. The Crispy Fried Chicken was excellent. You can't go wrong with it. The Crispy Yang Yum was sweet, spicy, sticky, lick your fingers good. And the Honey Butter was a little unexpected but in a unique way. It is heavy on the sweetness, almost like candy. If you close your eyes and took a whiff, you would think you were having dessert. But you need to try it so you can check it off your foodie bucket list. The fusion of flavor really works! The menu is fairly simple. You can select between oven baked or fried, mild or spicy and wings/drums/combo. They also offer a few side dishes such as cheddar fries, japchae (glass noodles) or kimchi fried rice. We only focused on ordering the chicken for now. Our food came with complimentary pickled radishes and coleslaw. Found this place through Yelp. We were craving fried chicken and to our pleasant surprise we found a spot focused on Korean fried chicken in Concord. The last time I had Korean fried chicken was about a couple of years ago in Berkeley in a Korean pub spot off of Telegraph. I saw high ratings for this place, so I thought I'd give it a try. There's street parking but I parked in the parking garage. I always try to find street parking when I'm picking up a take out order, but it's difficult. The restaurant is small and cozy. It's clean. There's a tv in front of a counter with seats. They sell beer on draft which goes pretty well with the Korean Fried Chicken. They have Shock Top, 805, Stella Artois and Deschutes IPA. Employees are friendly and welcoming. It's a bit slow to get the food out, but worth the wait. We ordered the following: Crispy Yangnyeom Chicken (Half- Mild - Combo - 2 drums, 6 Wings) for $12.99 - The sauce is amazing. It's sweet and thick, and goes really well with white rice. (For takeout, we cook rice at home). The skin is still crispy despite being heavily coated with the Yangnyeom sauce. The chicken is moist and juicy. The size of the drumsticks and wings were much bigger than I expected. Overall, the chicken was flavorful and tasty. I couldn't get enough of it. Vons Special Sauce Chicken (Half - Mild - Combo -2 drums, 6 Wings) for $11.99 - Sauce wasn't as good as the Yangnyeom but satisfactory. It was a bit underwhelming after tasting the Yangnyeom. The chicken was cooked perfectly tho, and the flavors was were good, but not great. A tiny bit disappointed as the flavors were much glorified on the previous chicken. Why was our little party of 2 getting the shaft? So we get the mini salad and the dressing is tasty. I wanted to enjoy it with my wings but it came after... then again we crush the salad & the rice comes way later. Just totally out of sync and not how I like to enjoy my meals, especially family style. If anything I would understand if the wings came last as that was the main event. Overall, I just felt like taking care of two parties on a Sunday afternoon should not be that difficult and just because a slightly larger party who ordered much more food than we did comes in, that does not give you the right to forget about us. I love love love fried chicken. It can do no wrong in my eyes. I've been waiting for try Vons for a while now and finally ordered DoorDash the other night, I am not sure if I like it here. First is the pricing. They are pricy, for some fried chicken I think there are many way better joints for much cheaper. Maybe their portions are big? Or the flavors are unique? Naw not really. Being a foodie spending money on food is not an issue, but this is just honestly not worth it. Second the flavors, we tried the crunchy fried drums, spicy and non spicy. Spicy is not that spicy, even the kids can eat them. Drum is regular drum size it's not like it's super sized. It's cooked ok, not like juicy inside because they probably made an incision to check if it's cooked all the way and dropped it back in the fryer, it's a bid on the dry side and you see the small cut on all the drumstick. And honestly If you don't know how long or what temp your chicken should be in the oil for, you probably shouldn't be in a fried chicken business. Thats your whole business model and you don't even have it down. I also ordered the 10 piece wings, half honey butter and half cheddar. Honey butter was not overly sweet, I kinda like it, cheddar powder was meh. Again size was just ok. There are way too many better places. Because the chicken are already on the dry side. Leftovers are just hard after you put them in the toaster oven. So if you just order from here, get what you can eat in one setting, leftovers are not recommended. I probably won't return. read more

Although I've only been here twice, the chicken has always been on point! I've tried the crispy fried chicken (both mild and spicy) as well as the roasted garlic chicken and was very satisfied! The fried chicken is always cooked perfectly with the right amount of crunch to it and less grease than one would expect. The flavor is within the chicken, not just on the fried skin. The roasted garlic chicken is oven-baked and well seasoned and juicy. Complimentary (and unlimited) pickled radish and cole slaw are provided. I've never liked cole slaw, but the one they serve here is pretty bomb! I definitely asked for seconds! I had a taste of the kimchi fried rice, but it was nothing in comparison to the chicken. The sweet potato fries were tasty, but won't be a loss if you opt not to order it. So good, it's hard to find takeout that is good quality. Big namers like kfc or Popeyes are not as reliable as far as consistently getting fresh hot crispy fried chicken. Vons is very similar to bon chons which is also a great fried chicken spot. Fresh crunchy chicken, even if it's slathered in sauce. Coleslaw and the pickled veggie is a nice compliment and not overly heavy like a mashed potato or mac & cheese side. In a nutshell: Vons is a spot you should definitely check out. For a half order (8 pcs) of their spicy house special sauce chicken, a bottle of strawberry soju (8 shots total), and an order of fries came out to $29 and some change. The chicken was juicy and the house sauce was pretty tasty with a nice kick (6/10 spiciness rating). Their fries are probably the best that I've had in the Concord area and fries are a staple in my diet. Next time I make a trip to Von's I'm going for their kimchi. Update: Ordered the half order of their crispy spicy wings (10 pcs) and I really dig that the boneless wings are not just chicken breast pieces. But the honey butter was extremely salty and was packed with msg or artificial sweetener on top. After scraping off the msg/sweetener topping it was a little better. Best chicken ever! Fresh and flavorful. New owners as of October 2018, so friendly and sweet. I recommend ordering Crispy Fried Chicken Mild Combo. They have a special on tab for $3.99 a glass which is way cheaper than the movie theaters. I would recommend coming here before going to the movies. The chicken takes about 15-20 minutes depending on how busy they are but it's seriously worth the wait. The size of chicken is very big compared to other fried chicken places.
