When you start selling chicken that's stabbed to death in the deep fryer, you know it's time to close shop and revise your business, recipes and the slightest drop of pride you might have left in the product you offer. As a specialty chicken eatery, all you do is chicken. How do you, in all your right minds, sell trash like this? The drumsticks I ordered were only edible from one side, because they were stabbed on the other side while in the fryer which caused the chicken to become super chewy, and crust burnt. This chicken was a big regret, and i hope Vons Chicken re considers their intentions in existing as a business. We ordered the rice cake (very spicy so beware), half spicy crunchy wings and half mild. I really enjoyed the rice cake and the texture. The wings were good, but dry. We had the boneless so maybe that's why it was dry, but it lacked the sauce. I felt like the sauce was drizzled lightly over the chicken so wasn't as flavorful as the pictures looked. I will come back because my son really loved the mild wings. I just hope I get more sauce on the chicken next time. As for service, there was only 1 person taking care of the 3 tables with patrons and there were a few takeouts. Can you say, overhyped and overpriced?! I never understood how places can charge $1 for a chicken wing... especially when they're just average. My hunt for tasty local chicken wings continues... I was in the area one night and decided to finally try this spot out. It wasn't Wing Wednesday, but my cravings still got the best of me of course. I had heard good things about Von's, especially from the Oakland location which I haven't yet been to. I walked in and definitely wasn't warmly greeted... I literally waited for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. I guess that was the first sign. When I finally did get acknowledged, I was given a menu and I sat down at the counter. I decided to get my order to-go this time around since I had some other things that I needed to get done that day. Looking at the menu, the price for these wings seemed a bit steep. $12 for 10 wings with a $1.50 upcharge... because they're wings. And this is JUST for the wings; no sides included. Um, what?! That's just too pricey for my liking. But I was already there and my craving wasn't subsiding, so I bit the bullet and ordered. They have several different flavors available as well many different sides including fries and kimchi fried rice. I decided to order a half size (10 wings) of their garlic chicken wings. As I waited, I scoped out the interior. There weren't many people inside, but it seemed like a nice spot to catch a game or to chow down on some wings after watching a movie since the theater is near by. Nothing too spectacular about the decor, but they have a decent amount of seating and a TV that's located on the back wall. I also noticed that they have a counter/bar top located right up front. I will say that their bathroom was immaculately clean and had an automatic air freshener inside which was an added bonus! It took them a while to prepare the wings, but they did offer me water while I waited. When my order finally arrived, the aroma of garlic happily graced my nose. They definitely smelled good, and for a moment I contemplated whether they might actually be worth the price. Unfortunately, they weren't. They weren't bad, but they weren't a home run either. I could definitely taste the garlic, but it was still lacking flavor. As much as I love sauce on my wings, these wings were just way too saucey for my taste. I probably should have ordered a side of something because I was still hungry after eating the wings. Who would've thought that a Korean fried chicken chain straight out of Seoul would land in Concord of all places? But man, I'm so happy they did. In true Korean fried chicken fashion, you don't have to worry about the chicken getting soggy in transit when you order for takeout - At least for the ones that aren't covered in sauce. With that said, I would still highly recommend also trying their crispy yang nyum chicken, which is covered in a super delicious sweet & spicy sauce. We ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken (mild), Honey Butter, and Crispy Yang Yum (spicy) to taste a variety of flavors for our first time. You can also choose oven baked but it's Korean fried chicken for the win! I believe it's the double frying technique they use that helps create a crispier texture and it's less oily. The Crispy Fried Chicken was excellent. You can't go wrong with it. The Crispy Yang Yum was sweet, spicy, sticky, lick your fingers good. And the Honey Butter was a little unexpected but in a unique way. It is heavy on the sweetness, almost like candy. If you close your eyes and took a whiff, you would think you were having dessert. But you need to try it so you can check it off your foodie bucket list. The fusion of flavor really works! The menu is fairly simple. Found this place through Yelp. We were craving fried chicken and to our pleasant surprise we found a spot focused on Korean fried chicken in Concord. The last time I had Korean fried chicken was about a couple of years ago in Berkeley in a Korean pub spot off of Telegraph. I saw high ratings for this place, so I thought I'd give it a try. There's street parking but I parked in the parking garage. I always try to find street parking when I'm picking up a take out order, but it's difficult. The restaurant is small and cozy. It's clean. There's a tv in front of a counter with seats. They sell beer on draft which goes pretty well with the Korean Fried Chicken. They have Shock Top, 805, Stella Artois and Deschutes IPA. Employees are friendly and welcoming. It's a bit slow to get the food out, but worth the wait. We ordered the following: Crispy Yangnyeom Chicken (Half- Mild - Combo - 2 drums, 6 Wings) for $12.99 - The sauce is amazing. It's sweet and thick, and goes really well with white rice. (For takeout, we cook rice at home). The skin is still crispy despite being heavily coated with the Yangnyeom sauce. The chicken is moist and juicy. The size of the drumsticks and wings were much bigger than I expected. Overall, the chicken was flavorful and tasty. I couldn't get enough of it. Vons Special Sauce Chicken (Half - Mild - Combo -2 drums, 6 Wings) for $11.99 - Sauce wasn't as good as the Yangnyeom but satisfactory. It was a bit underwhelming after tasting the Yangnyeom. I love love love fried chicken. It can do no wrong in my eyes. I've been waiting for try Vons for a while now and finally ordered DoorDash the other night, I am not sure if I like it here. First is the pricing. They are pricy, for some fried chicken I think there are many way better joints for much cheaper. Maybe their portions are big? Or the flavors are unique? Naw not really. Being a foodie spending money on food is not an issue, but this is just honestly not worth it. Second the flavors, we tried the crunchy fried drums, spicy and non spicy. Spicy is not that spicy, even the kids can eat them. Drum is regular drum size it's not like it's super sized. It's cooked ok, not like juicy inside because they probably made an incision to check if it's cooked all the way and dropped it back in the fryer, it's a bid on the dry side and you see the small cut on all the drumstick. And honestly If you don't know how long or what temp your chicken should be in the oil for, you probably shouldn't be in a fried chicken business. Thats your whole business model and you don't even have it down. I also ordered the 10 piece wings, half honey butter and half cheddar. Honey butter was not overly sweet, I kinda like it, cheddar powder was meh. Again size was just ok. There are way too many better places. Because the chicken are already on the dry side. Leftovers are just hard after you put them in the toaster oven. So if you just order from here, get what you can eat in one setting, leftovers are not recommended. I probably won't return. read more

The roasted garlic chicken is oven-baked and well seasoned and juicy. Complimentary (and unlimited) pickled radish and cole slaw are provided. I've never liked cole slaw, but the one they serve here is pretty bomb! I definitely asked for seconds! I had a taste of the kimchi fried rice, but it was nothing in comparison to the chicken. Vons is very similar to bon chons which is also a great fried chicken spot. Fresh crunchy chicken, even if it's slathered in sauce. Coleslaw and the pickled veggie is a nice compliment and not overly heavy like a mashed potato or mac & cheese side. For a half order (8 pcs) of their spicy house special sauce chicken, a bottle of strawberry soju (8 shots total), and an order of fries came out to $29 and some change. Their fries are probably the best that I've had in the Concord area and fries are a staple in my diet. Next time I make a trip to Von's I'm going for their kimchi. Vons Chicken is the second KFC joint in the area (the other is Pollo Pollo in Pacheco). I found this place totally by accident. I had a rare night off tonight and decided to grab dinner with one of my PD colleagues. We were looking for a place to eat in Concord and discovered Vons Chicken had taken over the space where I Love Ramen and Noodles used to be. For those of you not familiar with Concord, Vons Chicken is on Salvio Street, next to Brenden Theater. There is a parking garage adjacent to the business. We walked in at around 7:20pm and the place wasn't too busy. We were greeted immediately by one of the owners. At our request, she seated us at a table in the back corner. The interior appeared clean but dark. I noticed the new owners kept a lot of the old furniture and stuff from the last business, including the two flat screen TVs. Our server came by with menus and water. Vons's menu is very simple. They offer oven baked and fried drumettes and wings, plus a few other side dishes. For drinks, they have sodas, beers, and sojus. The following was what we ordered: - Half order (5 drumsticks) of Spicy Crispy Fried Chicken ($11.99) - Half order (5 drumsticks) of Spicy Crispy Yang Yum Chicken ($12.99) - An order of French fries ($3.99) My colleague and I were each given a small plate of Korean radish and coleslaw for the meal (ask nicely and they will give you more). I highly recommend eating them in between the pieces of chicken, as the spiciness and the high heat of the chicken can be overwhelming if you are not prepared for it. The order of French fries was the first to arrive. They were hot and crispy but a little underseasoned. A little bit more salt on the fries would be perfect. Both types of chicken arrived arrived soon after. I tried the Spicy Crispy Fried Chicken first. They looked totally benign but surprisingly packed a strong spicy punch! I was caught off guard by the spiciness and had to eat a couple pieces of radish just to cool my tongue down a bit. The batter was very crunchy and the chicken was moist. I liked it a lot since I enjoy spicy food. If my limited Korean language knowledge is correct, Yang Yum Chicken means fried chicken smothered in a sticky red sauce. Vons's version of the sticky red sauce reminded me of the taste of spicy Peking spareribs. Unlike the other type we ordered, the spicy heat of this one hit you at a much slower pace. Again, the drumsticks were fried to perfection. They were hot and crispy and very enjoyable. Service was excellent. Our server came by several times with extra napkins and water. I spoke with a couple of the owners and they told me this Vons is less than two weeks old and affiliated with the one in Sunnyvale. With T/T it came out to about $40. It may be pricey for some, but trust me it is worth it since Vons's chicken is much better than the Colonel's. I will definitely go back for more! Finally - no less than 14 minutes later - we got our drinks. Guzzle guzzle guzzle we were so thirsty. Strike 1 that took way too long. Shortly thereafter, we notice the table that arrived and placed their order after us starts receiving their apps... hmmm why does the party of 4 get special treatment? Then we got our chicken (whew! What a relief!)Yay! We dug in. Yum yum so delicious. As were crushing wings, we again are waiting... and waiting... and waiting for our fried rice and salad. Nothing... then again the party of four gets more apps, their wings & a large garden salad BEFORE US. Not cool. We ordered a mini salad. Why did ours arrive after theirs? Why was our little party of 2 getting the shaft? So we get the mini salad and the dressing is tasty. I wanted to enjoy it with my wings but it came after... then again we crush the salad & the rice comes way later. Just totally out of sync and not how I like to enjoy my meals, especially family style. If anything I would understand if the wings came last as that was the main event. Overall, I just felt like taking care of two parties on a Sunday afternoon should not be that difficult and just because a slightly larger party who ordered much more food than we did comes in, that does not give you the right to forget about us. I could also tell they were more concerned with their delivery orders than those in the actual restaurant, namely our party. It's hard to thoroughly enjoy a dining experience (even when the food is quite tasty) when the service is lacking. I really want to try their honey butter chicken so I'll come back and give them another try. I hope they do better next time! read more

Best chicken ever! Fresh and flavorful. New owners as of October 2018, so friendly and sweet. I recommend ordering Crispy Fried Chicken Mild Combo. They have a special on tab for $3.99 a glass which is way cheaper than the movie theaters. I would recommend coming here before going to the movies. The chicken takes about 15-20 minutes depending on how busy they are but it's seriously worth the wait. The size of chicken is very big compared to other fried chicken places. I was super excited to have a Korean chicken place open up in concord! We got the yum yang chicken wings, and spicy potstickers. The potstickers come in mild and spicy, and they were not spicy as all. I think our server might have messed up? The wings actually came out pretty quick despite all the other reviews saying it took pretty long. Not sure, if I ordered the right wings which makes this place so popular. I just got what everyone else got. The wings were saucy and had a kick. It kinda tasted like sweet and spicy hot wings. The meal came with radish and coleslaw. Overall the wings were okay. I would like to come back and try some other items before turning down this place. read more
