Ok so I've been wanting to try Von's chicken and just finally made it happen. We were rolling thru the area and my fam and I decided to stop for a quick bite. I wasn't exactly sure what or how to order. I asked The man at the counter what he recommended and he pointed out the most popular. which was the special sauce chicken. Batter is way over done and recipe has changed, they changed the quality of the drum sticks, they buy smaller size and butterfly them in a way that makes them look bigger. Oil is old as you can tell the batter is darker than it usually is and they nuked my chicken to the point where chicken was completely dried out! This place used to be so good but you can tell they are doing everything to save a buck which I get, but raise the prices and keep food quality the same, don't make the batter thicker and chicken smaller! I heard about this business and tried to get to the Berkeley location but it had changed to a different business. The service was quick and they brought the food to our table on actual plates. Full disclosure, I've never been inside the Vons. I only ever DoorDash (I know, I know). That being said, I absolutely ADORE the manager/owner and I've ordered enough times from them that they likely know my "usual" which is the 6 piece boneless lunch special, crispy hot, with rice. One time I had ordered and was delivered the wrong item. I called DoorDash and they refunded me, but I also called Vons to check and make sure I was ordering the correct item and that their menu didn't change. The gentleman who answered the phone was very apologetic, offered me a refund (I told him I was already issued one through DD), and when I ordered the next time, he remembered me, wrote me a note to apologize, and gifted me a can of soda. Serious wow. During covid lockdown this has honestly been my best local restaurant find. A few things. 1) the location is very hard to find- even with GPS. Do not go onto Galindo! 2) you can order online and I highly recommend that since there isn't an outdoor waiting area. Now for the food. This location is in the perfect spot! It's right next to Brenden Theatres, the parking garage, and across from a nice little bar/club. I came here for dinner with my boyfriend for date night and it was so convenient to come here. It's a small little spot, but there's actually a lot of seating to allow for bigger groups. We both ordered the special or deal that comes with less chicken, but it was the perfect portion for each of us. I love getting the honey butter chicken every time I come to Vons because it's so crispy and the honey butter balances out any greasy feel that usually comes with fried chicken. The customer service was a little slow, but they were very attentive when they took our order and checked on us frequently throughout our meal to make sure everything was ok! Chicken wings are pretty tasty with mild spicy. Its not as authentic Korean chicken as you will taste in the Korean restaurant but they are very crispy and the sauce is delicious. Potstickers are just ok. They are using the same sauce as the chicken wings which i think it's weird even though i like they sauce. I don't think it goes along with the potstickers.
