Met up with family at this restaurant for a weekday lunch. I'm not well-versed on Korean cuisine, and there are only a few dishes I feel safe ordering with the short ribs being one of them. Our group ordered the 2 meat/2 soup special for 4 persons and it was definitely enough food for our group. Wow, I am never coming back. Management may see this and not care because I'm one person out of many and they make enough money. But sheesh I felt racism aura all around. Something against Filipinos? Or me? Did I do something wrong? I ordered bibimbap and so did my dad. My sister got tofu soup. My mom was sharing soup with her. It was obnoxiously loud because there was a birthday being celebrated at the table in the middle (not the staff's fault but maybe this got on the staff's nerves?) I asked for 1 refill of the side dishes. 1. Waitress gives us a refill. So that's the initial set of side dishes and 1 refill. As my dad goes up to the back portion of the restaurant to pay, I ask for another refill of side dishes. Lady with shorter hair says, "no." with a stern look of disgust. I go, "uhh..okay." Really weird, that's never happened before, ever. My sister and mom left a few minutes prior and got their tofu soup to go because of how loud it was--we weren't done with our meal they just wanted to get out of there. If the soup was still on the table and all 4 of us were sitting down, would she still have said no? We then left a $5 tip (I wanted to give $0 actually after what just happened). As I left the table and went out the door, I saw the waitress looking at our table from the back where you pay, she was checking to see if we even left a tip (because my dad didn't put a tip on the bill as we like to leave cash tips). Just all around bad vibes. I very rarely give 1 star reviews. Actually the food here is unfortunately phenomenal, so if you've never had a bad experience here go ahead and continue eating here it's great. Food portions are terribly small for the price you pay. It's a flat out rip off for the cost. Maybe if their service was good it would justify the cost, but their service as described above, despicable. I know my thoughts are all over the place but I'm a bit rattled still at what just happened. I finished eating there 7:48pm, it's 8:03pm as I'm typing this on my phone in the car while the memory is fresh. That's how irked I am. They did not refill our water or ask to refill our water until I asked, and I only asked once. I saw they asked other tables if they wanted refills of water. That, plus the side dish refill and the short haired lady who's probably the owner saying no? I never want to come back. I felt disrespected, unappreciated, and felt racially profiled like because I'm Filipino she didn't like our kind there or something. The vibes were really off. I'm never coming back here voluntarily. At least that's how I feel right now. My experience, 0/5. The food, unfortunately 4/5, Score: 1 star because that's the lowest I can give it. Because the look you gave when you said, "no." When I asked for the refill of side dishes, you might as well have spit on my face. That's how it felt. We got takeout tonight and the meat eaters (kalbi, spicy pork) were very disappointed. The meat was like half or more fat. Pictures of 2 pieces of the kalbi (which is a $40 dish) posted to demonstrate. I got the tteokgook which was still good but I only eat the rice cakes and soup. read more

But I noticed a huge change to the menu. They added more items and of course up'd the prices. We waited a long time for someone to take our order. And when we finally ordered, it took awhile to get our food. We ordered the pork shoulder bulgogi, oyster pancakes, seaweed rolls, and short ribs. Everything was delicious including the sides. Delicious food with quick service in Park N Shop. Korea House has a cute small shop vibe with open seating and pictures of the yummy food on the wall. The meal came with an assortment of appetizers, including fish, kimchi, and vegetables. There is also a convenient call button for when you want your bill or need service! This was very helpful for when we asked for a refill of some of the appetizers. I ordered the LB1 (Bibimbap with Bulgogi). It was a huge amount, including lots of vegetables and rice and an egg. Easy choice for me to go with the chicken and galbi bento and when friend arrived he was hoping for the cold noodle dish which they had! Have been to several Korean places in the Concord/Walnut Creek area and this place is hands down the best. Haven't tried everything on the menu yet but everything I have had has been excellent. Last time we were here for lunch, they included a soup which I expected again this time around but when we didn't get any, I asked if they still offered it and the lady said not during the summer months. I later realized looking at other tables, they got jab chae for their table. Wish I knew that before because we ended up ordering the lunch jab chae that cost $16.95 while everyone else got it as a banchan dish. My friend and I are on the hunt to find great Korean food out here! I moved to this area from Oakland, so I have a high bar and this place met it! Things we ordered: *Kimchi mandu (steamed) - neither of us particularly loved these. That said, my biggest qualm was that they were a bit oversized and fell apart. But also, I'm guessing part of this is just my own preferences. *Sweet and spicy wings - these were delicious! No notes. *Small spicy bulgogi - I really appreciate that they have different portion sizes so we could try more things. But more importantly, the bulgogi was delicious! *Tofu soup - I didn't have this, but my friend loved it! One more thing that I want to highlight was the banchan. We went for lunch and there were lunch specials as well as regular entrees. We split a kalbi and chicken bulgogi dishes. There were 12 banchan dishes - my favorite was the potato. The seaweed wafers were surprising. We also got one bowl of steaming rice each. The service was efficient- we got our banchan dishes first, followed shortly by our bowls of rice, and then the sizzling entrees. In terms of quantity of food, it was just enough - the two of us finished almost all of the food. If we were to come back, we will try the lunch special. I went in for dinner during my lunch break at work (8pm) and it was moderately busy. Despite this I was seated immediately and had my food order within minutes. I got an all veggie Bibimbap topped with soft tofu served in a stone bowl. The server brought me out an assortment of 4 different appetizers before my meal, which consisted of bean sprouts, spinach, pickled radish and kimchi-like marinated cucumbers. So happy to have stumbled upon this Korean spot in Concord. The inside ambience feels cozy and homely, yet implements quality of life features such as a button to call the server over for the bill. The food was beyond delicious. I got the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and galbi (bbq short ribs). The bibim naengmyeon had the perfect amount of sauce/broth. The noodles were much easier to chew and swallow compared to other places. The galbi was cooked nicely with flavorful meat and charred edges. I'd definitely get these items again. The banchan also hit the spot. They served some sort of jelly banchan which I had never tried before but thought was delicious! The glaze was really good. 7/6/24 Preface. I don't like noise pollution. So its 4TH of July weekend, 12:30 PM, a hundred degrees in the shade and one of our neighbors has a damn Mariachi band in their back yard. Wife : OK Now Spoon in Berkeley was our go-to for Korean but they made a menu change that left us hanging, so we have parted ways. (cabbage swapped out for lettuce). We are seated promptly and order BBQ short ribs and a coke. The food and presentation is perfect. Sizzling and many tasty extras to enjoy with our ribs. The servers are friendly and responsive. Smiling and attentive. The ribs were so delicious that we worked up more appetite. They disappeared quickly so we ordered tofu mushroom soup. The soup came out quickly and boiling hot. Ample mushrooms of different varieties and more little dishes of condiments to replenish our empty bowls. . We even a surprise in the soup. Some children started up with the noise pollution but the food was so enjoyable that I almost didn't care.
