Salt and pepper chicken wings, fried fish filet, chicken with mushrooms, Peking pork chops.
Larry M.

First time at 'express' 30 year customer in San Ramon and Pleasant Hill prior to this. Menu about the same, a bit trimmed down. Most items prepared the same, the S&P fish filet had a different coating, but same flavor. Reasonable prices on the 3 item entree menu, $45 for 3 entrees! As always, S&P chicken wings were excellent!

This is a new local gem for Pleasant Hills. Got it for to-go and the food was so good and so fresh. Not super greasy and the oil felt clean. Their service is amazing!! Highly recommend~~

Three brothers returns, always one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in this area, they return with a more limited menu in the space next to their former store. We ordered their hot and sour soup, soft tofu, and green beans. Still recommended.

Stir fried rice noodles with beef and stir fried veggies with shrimp.

Fry rice noodles with beef. Beef tastes off and the noodle were drenched with oil and no flvaor. We didn't eat the beef. There's better at other places for less price. The shrimp with veggies was good but I wanted the lunch special with rice. It was my first time there, the menu was not clear and I didn't get the lunch special I wanted. Probably the most bothersome part was eating off the plastic containers even when we said we wanted to dine in. It was uncomfortable eating there. You have to serve yourself water. Some seats were really dirty. They only have one person up front handling everything. Not a restaurant experience, it is "express". Best to order to go, I guess.

The…read moreone thing that really stands out the most to us is their Sichuan Beef Stew Noodle Soup, which I've praised so many times in my previous reviews so I'm not gonna repeat myself so that I don't sound like a broken record, but it's just so good! Another thing we ordered when we visited this restaurant yesterday was the Sichuan Cumin Beef. I honestly forgot how much we liked this dish. The way they cooked it yesterday was incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor (savory, very cumin-y and spicy!) , and even the veggies were fully infused with it. It went perfectly with steamed rice. I want to give a warning though, because this dish was extremely spicy, which I personally loved. I liked it so much that I ended up ordering another one to go so I could keep eating it at home over the next few days, lol. I also want to give a shout out to the guy who was basically single-handedly running the restaurant yesterday. He saw us walk in carrying a car seat and offered us a high chair, but he flipped it upside down so we could safely place the car seat on it. Such a simple back but genius. On top of that, he was super friendly the entire time. The restaurant was pretty empty, which is pretty normal for this restaurant whenever we visit it, although they seem to get a lot of takeout orders - happy for them. The empty restaurant actually worked out perfectly for us since we had a baby with us, haha. Overall, it was a really good dining experience, and I'd definitely keep coming back whenever I'm in the area.

While he was working incredibly hard, it's unfair to both the staff and the customers to have a "one-man show" during dinner rush. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and a full hour for food--which is nearly impossible when you have a hungry toddler with you. We ordered a non-spicy dish (lotus root) for our toddler, but it arrived spicy anyway. Since we couldn't wait another hour for a remake, she ended up just eating white rice. To top it off, our beef tripe and blood in hot pot broth dish arrived without the blood. When we finally flagged Rambo down, he explained they intentionally exclude it because some customers find it "smelly." As a Chinese customer who specifically ordered the dish for the blood, I found this frustrating and deceptive. If an ingredient is being removed from a titled dish, guests must be notified upfront. We enjoyed the flavors of the spicy tan tan noodles, lotus root, black pepper lamb, and ma-po tofu, but the management needs to hire more weekend staff. We'll stick to takeout from now on.

At 12:30pm, at the height of lunch time, there were only 2 customers in the restaurant. I was greeted by a pleasant lady who led me to my table. I ordered their lunch special Kunpao Chicken that came with hot and sour soup, a small tasty egg roll and steamed rice. The Serving was generous and the chicken was delicious! The soup wasn't too sour, authentic but not overpowering which I liked. After my meal, I had enough delicious leftover for dinner. There were just 3 customers, including myself, the whole time I was there. It's sad because the place looks nice and clean, and the food was great. Lunch specials come with soup ( mom liked it, I didn't), plain white rice, eggroll ( definitely frozen ) and your entree. We chose fried fish. Mom got the spicy and it was way too spicy. They offered to replace when they saw her trying to catch her breath. She can usually do the hot stuff. So we both ended up with salt and pepper fish for $16 each. It was fine, not great. I imagine I won't be back.

The flavors are mouthwatering every time, and somehow the broccoli is always cooked perfectly. Crisp, tender, vibrant, and never overdone, which honestly says a lot. What really keeps us coming back, though, is the service. It goes above and beyond in a way that still catches me off guard. Here, they really try to work around your schedule, and that small detail says a lot. One small note, just to be fair... when ordering for pickup, and even once during pickup, my wife felt the person at the door was a little brisk with her. She jokingly compared it to dealing with a car dealership, in regards to their "attitude" with her. I've never personally had that experience, so apparently I'm the designated pickup person now. And they always give my daughter an extra fortune cookie IF/while we're waiting so... that's a plus, for my daughter lol!! Even with that, we keep coming back because the food is just that good. If you're looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine in Walnut Creek--not Americanized, not watered…read moredown, not "suggestion of spice"--Sichuan House is the real deal. This is a restaurant where the menu doesn't just list dishes...it teaches you something. The moment you open the menu, you know you're in the right place. The Cold Plate (冷盤) section alone reads like a passport stamp to Chengdu: BEEF TRIPE & BEEF FLAKE (夫妻肺片) - tender, numbing, and electric with Sichuan peppercorns. If you know, you know. Sliced Pork with Spicy Garlic (蒜泥白肉) - silky, rich, and packed with real chili heat. North Sichuan Green Pea Jelly (川北冷粉) - hot, sour, spicy, and addictive. Spicy Pig Ear (紅油豬耳) - crunchy, aromatic, and perfectly done. Jellyfish Salad (葱油海蜇) - refreshing, light, and authentically seasoned. These aren't "safe choices for the American palate." These are dishes straight from the Sichuan playbook, and they are done properly. And then the entrées -- highlights worth calling out: Sichuan Tea-Smoked Duck (香辣樟茶鴨) - smoky, spicy, fragrant; a dish you don't see done right very often. They nail it. Boiled Fish Fillet in Chili Oil (水煮魚片) - a must-order for anyone who really understands Sichuan cuisine. Beautiful heat and numbing balance. Cumin Beef or Lamb (孜然牛/羊肉) - bold, aromatic, and cooked with confidence. Dry-Fried Green Beans (干扁四季豆) - textbook execution. The menu is huge, but instead of feeling generic, it feels like a curated journey through Sichuan: hot pots, clay pots, seafood, offal, noodles, cold appetizers, and delicacies you rarely see outside China. This is one of the few restaurants in the East Bay where I'd confidently send someone who says, "I want real Sichuan." Service is warm, portions are generous, spice levels are honest, and the prices are more than fair for the quality and effort in these dishes. If you love authentic food--actual Sichuan food--this is a must-visit. --Elliott L., Walnut Creek "Here for the peppercorns, stayed for the joy."
