I think we ordered too much feom their menu, their flavor is satisfying & portion is big! The servers are very nice and there is enough space inside. It is worth the money we spent...

Mixed celery with beancurd

You will always be on 10-15 min wait. Do not get the fried calamari. It's over cooked, dry with a burnt flavor. I would also not get the spicy big plate chicken over flat noodle. It's very gene rot with chunks of chicken thigh but chintzy on the noodle. It's not dry. It has copious amounts of loose sauce that is so spicy it will numb your tongue. The winners are mixed celery with beancurd, and the braised pork pita burger.

Beef rib bones added to beef noodle thick flat noodles. Yumm!

Got my yaba daba doo... internal Fred Florine out here with great homemade noodles. These rib bones are intense, tender and flavorful. Wish the soup would be spiced like a Taiwan version. Clearly Lanzhou is different. Noodles were al dente and stick to your bones for sure. Favorite place in Concord area.

Pork and shrimp XLB
Olivia C.

First time at the Concord location of Impression of Lanzhou and let me tell you, I can see why there's a line out the door at the Berkeley location which I'm closer to. Never tried it in Berkeley as it is packed with students so came to the Concord location with my friend. We were quickly seated and asked if we wanted to use the QR code on the table to order or paper menus. We went with the paper menus and there's quite a bit being offered. My friend decided on the cumin lamb fried rice and I opted for their signature beef bone noodle soup. You can decide the noodle thickness (4 different options including flat wide noodles) which I thought was cool. I opted for the thick noodles. We decided to share an order of the pork and shrimp xiao long bao (XLB) as well. The lamb fried rice came out first and it smelled so good! Shortly after my hand pulled noodle soup came out with two large bone pieces with a good amount of meat on them. I gave my friend a small bowl of the noodle soup and one of the bones with meat to try and I took some of her cumin lamb fried rice. She tried the noodle soup first and we both commented on how the server was correct in saying the thick noodles were chewy. Just the way I liked it. The soup, noodles and bone were all very flavorful and the combination of the noodle, beef, daikon and green onions was spot on. My friend jokingly said she wondered if they'd give her a to go box for the bones to make broth with. The cumin lamb fried rice also didn't disappointment. Many pieces of flavorful lamb and the cumin definitely was a standout. The portion size was also solid! While we were digging into our dishes, the XLB came. These are standouts. I would've wanted another small plate with ginger so my friend and I could have our own plates but I opted to use my bone plate for the XLB vinegar they had on the table. The XLB were juicy and had a good amount of filling. The only thick part of the wrapper was the top but that was to be expected in how it was constructed. With all that soup, the wrapper was probably the right thickness to hold it all in without being potsticker thick. There were so many tables and I liked that they were spread out so people could have their space. There is parking and though the shared lot for this large strip mall seems full, many people are always leaving because of the Ranch 99 shoppers. I'll definitely be back!

Oil spill noodles with beef bone added

I was craving Lanzhou noodles, and had this place bookmarked for a while to try, so I suggested going here for lunch with my mom last week. We went on a Friday around 11:30. It wasn't that busy when we got there, so plenty of seats available. My mom and I both got the oil spill noodles. I added beef bone and tea egg, and my mom added chicken and tea egg. At the regular spiciness level, I didn't think it was spicy at all. I think I might kick it up a notch next time. The noodles were good, and the overall taste was pretty good, but I have had better. The beef bone was cooked in broth, and was tender and tasty. I definitely need to try the noodle soup next time. You can choose different noodle size, but the default for the oil spill noodles is the wide noodles. The service was quick and attentive. We also got an order of xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings), but I forgot to take a picture. The dumplings were flavorful, and a good amount of broth inside. Overall, if you like noodles. I would recommend the place. I'll definitely go back to try more items.

tofu skin

I was excited to try this place out since good hand-pulled noodles are hard to find in the area. The bone in noodle soup is definitely the highlight. The broth is rich and the noodles have that perfect chewy texture you can only get when they are made fresh. The seaweed salad had a surprising spicy kick to it, which was a nice change from the usual sweet Japanese style. The tofu skin dish was just okay, a bit on the bland side compared to the rest of the meal. One gripe is the parking lot can be a headache during peak hours, so try to go during off-hours. Overall, solid Northern Chinese food.

Beef noodle soup with pickled cabbage

Legit noodle spot (among other items on their menu) located in a busy strip mall in Concord that includes lots of other eateries and at least one coffee shop. When you order a noodle dish, they have a few noodle options including hand pulled and varying widths, etc. The place felt like a cozy mom and pop type cafe with cool design along the wall. Ordering was pretty simple. It was cold and rainy outside so my niece, nephew, and I all ordered variations of the beef noodle soup. I got the beef noodle soup with pickled cabbage for a bit of acidity to blend with the savory rich beef noodles. The soup and noodles here are very tasty. Not much different if at all from many of the noodle soup places I've eaten at in the SGV area in SoCal. We almost ordered some soup dumplings as well...but ultimately decided the large bowls of noodle soups were more than enough for us (maybe next time!) If you're craving some authentic, delicious noodles/ soup/ dumplings. This place for sure scratches that itch. Seems like plenty of parking with its own lot, but with these places, they can get really busy.

Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodle Soup
Jillian L.

The best hand pulled noodles in the area! I had the pickled cabbage beef noodle soup because I was craving something sour and it hit the spot! I ordered it with the small flat noodles and they were perfectly cooked and bouncy. My parents had the spicy beef noodle soup and it wasn't spicy at all and could use a bit more flavor. The beef is sometimes a hit or miss in that soup and can be a little tough. We also ordered the XLBs and they had really good flavor! The skin was just a little bit thicker than other places I've been today. A solid place to go to when you're craving noodles or noodle soup and I definitely will be coming back again. Service is great and they're attentive, tea is free, and parking is plentiful!

The best in the area for sure, there is now also another location in Berkeley. You can choose from 5 different types of noodles for each and there is a whole array of different flavors of either dry mix or soup noodles for your enjoyment. I have been quite a few times at this point and each time it did not disappoint. The appetizers are also great, we particularly like the pig ear and mixed cucumber and black fungi. If you haven't been, definitely give it a go.

After wishing for hand pulled noodles to become available near me for the longest, Impression of Lanzhou has delivered me my dreams in the form of Tomato Scrambled noodles and wontons with spicy chili oil. Have been here on multiple occasions, and leave satisfied (and sometimes overly full), every single time. This visit was no exception. Ordering is made easy through a QR code that you scan at your table. You can order more food as you go using the page it directs you to, as well as pay so there's no need to wave down a server for the check. After we ordered, our food came out rather quickly since our appetizers were just salad (maybe 15 mins). And then our main dishes came shortly after. It was my best friend's first time here, so we got a little excited when we ordered. This is what we got: Shredded potato salad (3.5/5) - this dish had an interesting texture. The potatoes are raw so they have a crisp bite to them. The seasoning they used seemed pretty standard, a soy and sesame based sauce. Fun to try something new! Mixed celery with bean curd (4/5) - this had a similar taste to the potato salad but a little more bland. I think what sold us more on it, though, was the texture of the bean curd was so satisfying to eat! So we definitely liked this a bit more than the potatoes. Pickled pepper with black fungus (5/5) - this was our favorite of the appetizers we had! This had texture, tanginess, and was delightfully spicy! If you get any appetizer, get this one! Signature spicy wonton (5/5) - I don't think you could ever go wrong with wontons in chili oil. We absolutely smashed these, they were so good! Spicy and umami in all the best ways. Also a must order! Tomato scrambled noodles (5/5) - if you're a fan of tomato egg, then this is the noodle dish for you. It's that same comforting dish but with the added chewiness and QQ of a thick noodle paired with it. We also demolished this whole thing! The noodle pulls on this dish go crazyyyyy. Definitely a fun-to-eat dish!

Pork & Chive Dumplings

We came to Impressions of Lanzhou for dinner because my husband had been there before and really wanted me to try it. We started with the pork and chive dumplings, and they were definitely the highlight -- juicy, flavorful, and they practically burst in your mouth. So good! For my entrée, I ordered the chicken chow mein with flat noodles. It was good, but I felt like it could have used a bit more flavor. My husband ordered the spicy big plate chicken, but when the food arrived, we were actually given the wrong dish. At first, we didn't realize because it didn't seem that big, but after a few bites, my husband noticed there was no chicken. We let the waitress know, and she quickly realized the mistake and reordered the correct dish. By the time the right dish came out, we were already pretty full from sharing my meal and eating part of the incorrect one. The big plate chicken is HUGE -- definitely meant for a group (probably around 5-6 people). It has a lot of ingredients, including large chunks of ginger that can be hard to spot, which I personally didn't love. We ended up taking it home, but honestly didn't eat much of it afterward because it was a bit overwhelming and hard to pick out what was what. The staff were very friendly and handled the mistake well, and overall the food was good. I'd come back again, but mainly for those dumplings -- they were the real standout!

Spicy pig ears

My parents have been trying to bring us to Impression of Lanzhou since they discovered it a few months ago. This little spot offers a variety of appetizers, rice combos and their special hand stretched noodles. Their menu is pretty simple, pick a noodle soup (if that's what you're there for) and a noodle size. Three of us got the Signature Beef Broth noodle soup while my husband tried the Braised Beef Noodle Soup. Both were really good but if you are looking for a little more umph and flavor go for the Braised Beef as the signature if mainly beef broth with hints of star anise, green onion and cilantro similar to pho. The noodle portions are generous and check out the two huge beef ribs that come with their signature soup. My husband really enjoyed the Braised Beef. He noted there was a lot of flavor and meat was tender. In addition to our noodles, we got the pork and chives dumpling and spicy pig ears. Both worth trying. The dumplings are not to doughy, delicious and filled with soup and meat. They come out steaming hot so be careful not to burn your mouth with the soup insider. The spicy pig ears were thinly sliced and marinated in their spicy sauce and jalapenos. They were not overly spicy, crunchy and easy to eat. I convinced my 9-year-old to give it a try and he ended up liking it. Overall, Impression of Lanzhou made an impression. Great soups and appetizers for comfort on a cold rainy day or any day!

Lanzhou beef noodles
Benny C.

This place is jaw dropping delicious! I got the lanzhou beef noodle soup and added a side of braised beef and extra noodles. I was not ready to be served an entire whole bowl of extra noodles and broth! First off, the broth, was amazing. I don't know how they made it, but it was near perfection. The noodles were super al dente and chewy, yet soft. The beef was super tender. The portions were insane! I almost didn't finish my extra noodles! The broth touched a next level element of savory-ness that I actually still vividly remember to this day. All in all, such a solid spot for noodles and dumplings. I also got the pork soup dumplings and the juices that came out of it I wanted to bathe in. It was oh so good that I can't stop thinking about it!

I've heard of Yi Ji Chang Fen but only tried it today. I've eaten so much dim sum in my lifetime, so my standard for dim sum may be higher. We came around 5PM on a Saturday and there wasn't anyone really there. It could be because dim sum feels more like a morning or lunch thing, or it could just be because we were there for a very early dinner. Between our party, we shared: - Marinated Chicken and Mushroom Rice Roll - Stuffed Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - Steamed Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce - Black Gold Egg Custard Buns - Chicken Feet with Herbs - Dry Style Beef Chow Fun And one Honey Lemon Tea for me. The honey lemon tea was a comfort for the cold day. Maybe a bit too much honey, but still good for the throat during the dry season. The chow fun came first and surprisingly it was not bad. There was a bit of 'wok hey' there and it stands out as one of the better dishes we had. As for the rice roll - I wanted to try something less conventional and I've never seen chicken in rice rolls, so I thought it would be interesting to try. It was quite disappointing though. Their rice roll was bigger than normal in width so with rice rolls being a struggle to pick up already, the bigger size made it an even bigger struggle. Everything just slipped out of the rice roll and it wasn't evenly wrapped. There were some bunched up layers on the edges. I think the chicken just didn't pair that well either and it was lacking in ingredients. Maybe the more conventional rice rolls would be better. For the two types of chicken feet, I normally like the one in herbal soup. If made well, the chicken feet has a nice flavor to it. For Yi Fen's herbal chicken feet, their portion was pretty good, but flavor was less prominent. I enjoyed the chicken feet in black bean sauce more because the flavor was better. Lastly, for the stuffed sticky rice and black gold egg custard buns, I suspect that these are not made in-house, but rather store-bought. The sticky rice lacked ingredients and the rice was a little harder than if made fresh. And the perfectly shaped black buns with a golden brush stroke on top (which I've seen all over the internet) seemed too elevated-looking compared to everything else. I'm not the biggest fan of molten lava buns, but they came out nicely. I didn't have any, but the molten lava custard was pretty runny. All in all, an okay experience. Service was a bit lacking. I don't recommend the dim sum dishes, but if I happen to want congee, I may give this place another go. Apart from the dim sum and rice rolls, the noodles I glimpsed from other customers looked not bad. I wonder if other locations are better.
