    Eggplant in garlic sauce

We did take out. We asked for mild spicy Szechuan beef and eggplant in garlic sauce. The beef was overcooked and dry and a little too spicy for me though it was fine for my husband the eggplant had a good flavor. We got the impression that the portions are bigger if you eat in.

Warm inviting service. Food was excellent! Fresh, quality ingredients...food was well prepared. Not oily-winner! All dim sum was very good except the pork/shrimp dumplings ‍. Great meal...

Location is in a strip mall so lots of parking. Costumer service is above and beyond. They are so friendly here. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The menu was huge! We ordered so much food for our party of 8. Everything was fabulous. My favorites were: the salt pepper fish filet- the fish was so fresh and flakey and not greasy at all. Fantastic! The Szechuan chicken was to die for! This was everyone's favorite dish. It had the perfect amount of spice and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I also loved the American-Chinese options of orange chicken and general Cho's chicken. The kung pao shrimp was perfect as well! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and I loved the contrast to the crisp bell pepper. We also enjoyed the soup dumplings, fried rice, chow mein, orange tofu, a scallion pancakes, and dry fried green beans (which had a lovely ginger kick to them). All the dishes tasted fresh and the flavors were on point. This is my go to Chinese restaurant now in our area. You got to come try this place!

Been a regular at Tasty Szechuan, especially for dinner, and it can definitely bring the heat and numbing spice, but also has a variety of dishes to enjoy even if spicy food isn't your thing. Located between a Little Caesar's Pizza and an international Mediterranean market, it can be easy to miss off Treat Blvd, but that would be a mistake. Tasty Szechuan does a pretty brisk takeout business but we really like eating in to enjoy the food at its freshest. We have always experienced friendly service here with our cups of cold water flavored with lemon and hot tea kept full. The seating arrangements can be a little tight with a mix of booths and tables, but they make it work. The decor feels more like the 80's but the place is clean and they have signs up about the various dishes they offer. PROs: - Spicy Szechuan dishes can really be spicy if you want it which is great - Mapo tofu had great flavor and kick - Sautéed bok choy with black mushrooms isn't spicy but cooked really well and consistently each time - Silken tofu with crab roe was a creamy surprise and terrific over rice - Beef tendon noodle soup included tender beef pieces, hearty broth and noodles with a good chew - Steamed soup dumplings which were flavorful and had a good dough - Various boiled dumplings Dishes that were less of a standout for our palate were the orange chicken (which is a favorite of some in our family but I found to be too sweet), the crab-fried rice where the crab didn't really stand out, and the wonton with chili oil (great chili oil but the wontons were not as flavorful as we expected). Overall, we are still exploring the large menu and can't wait to get back again soon!

Mom and I came here for lunch just by chance and we were blown away! The service was outstanding! Sylvona was fantastic, as was the young man working along side her but I didn't catch his name. The vibe was so easy breezy in there, mom and I just chatted away. The food was extremely tasty as well. We both had honey walnut prawns. It tasted amazing. We also had pot stickers. You could taste the freshness of the food. They boxed our food for us so neatly afterwards. The entire experience was 5 stars. I really dig the cups they serve the water in and it came with a lemon!!;) Next time mom and I agreed to be more adventurous with our orders. The rest of the menu looks delicious. Don't you love leaving a restaurant now a days feeling like it was money well spent? We will definitely be back.

Aug 24, 2025 2 pm Solid four stars We went here for a family lunch. A few observations. One male waiter talks to fast when repeating our order. This may have caused some confusion. A woman comes over ten minutes later to tell us "Sorry, we are out of Dancing Prawns." We told her we hadn't ordered Dancing Prawns. She said "Oh good, you didn't order Dancing Prawns." The Walnut Prawns we ordered were brought out much too early. Better if they were timed closer to our other items. They forgot to bring us our cola.. To the young waitress. You are charming and attentive but perhaps look up what Sichuan peppers are and how they make for a numbing mouth sensation. We had to fact check you. There are two Choose Your Own Gender bathrooms. The one I used was clean but I had to wrestle with the towel dispenser. It is unclear if it is supposed to be motion activated or not. Some noisy man from Oakland seemed to have stopped by just for a glass of water and to chat up the charming waitress. Seemed to go on for about 30 minutes. I would ask my employees to discourage that. The food was satisfying. Nothing overly impressive but it was a solid Good. I felt the price was fare. The place looks clean and organized. (Organized but for that Dancing Prawn thing.)

Tonight was our first time here, it was delicious! We came with our 6 year old and the staff were so attentive to us as well. We definitely will be back again. The pictures don't do the food justice, it was divine. The place was super clean and the panda stuffed animals they had to welcome you in - so adorable. My favorite thing was the garlic fried rice, I almost finished the whole bowl by myself. Can't wait for the next visit.

I have no known food allergies, so if I'm eating a meal and my tongue starts tingling and my lips get slightly numb, then I'm probably eating yummy szechuan cuisine. Tasty Szechuan delivers the experience perfectly! This isn't the nearest szechuan food to me, nor is it the cheapest, but I find myself opting for this choice over others because it Tasty Szechuan is consistently great. Mapo Tofu and Eggplant String Beans are my go-to dishes, and they never disappoint. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. Plenty of parking in the large lot, and lots of seating inside.

Parking: its in a plaza so plenty of parking. Seating: we came around 2pm and we were seated fairly quickly. Service: excellent service. From the staff taking our order, to checking in with us and even to checking out. They were so kind and even packaged our food to go for us. Food: incredible taste. We had the sweet and sour chicken as well and their sweet and sour ribs, veggie chowmein and some beef dumplings. Everything came in a pretty big portion and was delicious. Overall, amazing service for delicious food. Completely worth the visit.

A solid Szechuan experience with that characteristic mouth numbing spice. The decor inside is super cute including the stuffed pandas that greet you and it's quite spacious so I don't expect too much of a wait even on a weekend at dinner. The staff is really friendly and helped make some recommendations for us on the menu too. The dishes are large and there's definitely going to be enough for leftovers. All in all, a great spot to come for lunch.

Holy one of the best Szechuan spots in the Bay Area and rivals China Village in Albany. The service was amazing and all the servers were super friendly and offering recommendations when needed. As for the food, the food was the highlight. It had just enough spice to get the tongue going, but still managed to be so so flavorful. When I am in the area or craving szcheuan, l'll def make sure to come back here!

Ask the Community - Tasty Szechuan

Is there peanuts in your food? We are allergic to peanuts.

They told me no for the items we ordered but I'm not sure they understood the severity. Can't confirm if cross contamination is a concern. And given one of our entrees had to be brought over from another restaurant, I would not trust it.

Open on holidays? Christmas Eve, Christmas Day?

Yes, the restaurant is open on Thanksgiving holidays, both Thursday and Friday.

Do they have lunch special menu?

Yes. During the week they have several offerings that are described as more Americanized and they come with a huge mound of white rice, but nothing else, except that a pot of tea is provided for all tables.

This is a restaurant where the menu doesn't just list dishes...it teaches you something. The moment you open the menu, you know you're in the right place. The Cold Plate (冷盤) section alone reads like a passport stamp to Chengdu: BEEF TRIPE & BEEF FLAKE (夫妻肺片) - tender, numbing, and electric with Sichuan peppercorns. If you know, you know. Sliced Pork with Spicy Garlic (蒜泥白肉) - silky, rich, and packed with real chili heat. North Sichuan Green Pea Jelly (川北冷粉) - hot, sour, spicy, and addictive. Spicy Pig Ear (紅油豬耳) - crunchy, aromatic, and perfectly done. Jellyfish Salad (葱油海蜇) - refreshing, light, and authentically seasoned. These aren't "safe choices for the American palate." These are dishes straight from the Sichuan playbook, and they are done properly. And then the entrées -- highlights worth calling out: Sichuan Tea-Smoked Duck (香辣樟茶鴨) - smoky, spicy, fragrant; a dish you don't see done right very often. They nail it. Boiled Fish Fillet in Chili Oil (水煮魚片) - a must-order for anyone who really understands Sichuan cuisine. Beautiful heat and numbing balance. Cumin Beef or Lamb (孜然牛/羊肉) - bold, aromatic, and cooked with confidence. Dry-Fried Green Beans (干扁四季豆) - textbook execution. The menu is huge, but instead of feeling generic, it feels like a curated journey through Sichuan: hot pots, clay pots, seafood, offal, noodles, cold appetizers, and delicacies you rarely see outside China. This is one of the few restaurants in the East Bay where I'd confidently send someone who says, "I want real Sichuan." Every bite was packed with flavor (savory, very cumin-y and spicy!) , and even the veggies were fully infused with it. It went perfectly with steamed rice. I want to give a warning though, because this dish was extremely spicy, which I personally loved. I liked it so much that I ended up ordering another one to go so I could keep eating it at home over the next few days, lol. I also want to give a shout out to the guy who was basically single-handedly running the restaurant yesterday. On top of that, he was super friendly the entire time. We ordered a non-spicy dish (lotus root) for our toddler, but it arrived spicy anyway. Since we couldn't wait another hour for a remake, she ended up just eating white rice. To top it off, our beef tripe and blood in hot pot broth dish arrived without the blood. When we finally flagged Rambo down, he explained they intentionally exclude it because some customers find it "smelly." It included Hot and Sour Soup, an Eggroll, and a Fried Won Ton. I wish I had discovered Chef Choy restaurant sooner. Good 50/50 portions of Mongolian Beef and Rice. Thinly sliced beef was tender and easy to eat. Fresh fried rice was soft and moist. The service was prompt and attentive with 2-3 servers on the floor. I read Chef Choy has been around for about 30 years. It has a nice asian decor with soft lights. When I was there at 12:45pm, and the place was 70% full. I definitely want to go back, but I better hurry. Sadly, I read an article that said Chef Choy may close in June 2026 because they can't renew their lease. I hope they can reopen elsewhere, and we can enjoy their dishes.
