OK we've been on the hunt for an authentic Chinese restaurant in Concord. We stumbled upon China Palace. When we walked in we were greeted and we sat down. The owner Judy was very engaging and she asked how we found out about the place. She proceeded to tell me that her husband makes the sauces from scratch etc. And her nephews are the cooks as well. She was super friendly. We asked how long she's been there and she told us 13 years I can't believe I've never even seen this place .. She was so engaging . We ordered honey walnut prawns, Mongolian beef, chicken chow mein, steamed rice and general tsaos chicken . We ordered 2 beers as well.This place did not disappoint!! The honey walnut prawns and the chicken had a glaze on it but the batter itself stayed crispy the whole time! A lot of times it can get soggy. Everything had lots of flavor . I've lived in Walnut Creek for the past three years and have mostly had great experiences with local restaurants, which is why this one stood out for the wrong reasons. I was raised in Oakland eating some of the best Chinese food you can find, so I know what good Chinese food tastes like. Unfortunately, this place was just mid, especially for how expensive it is. What made the experience worse was the customer service. The staff was incredibly rude, and what really concerned me was the way they responded after my partner left feedback. Harassing customers for leaving a review is not professional and is not a good way to run a business. Feedback should be taken as an opportunity to improve, not something to attack customers over. A better approach would have been to reach out and try to remediate the situation or address the concerns raised. Because of this experience, my office and my family will not be ordering from this location again. The issue isn't just the price, it's the lack of respect and basic customer service. read more

The food was extremely greasy, the Mongolian beef plate was horrible, The chowmein and kungpow chicken were greasy, the Mongolia beef didn't even taste like beef. the quality was horrible! Coming back from a theater outing in SF, our group of 6 decided to try Chinese Food for a change. China Palace came up as a place close to the Pleasant Hill BART station. Upon entering the restaurant was very pleasant and at 6:30pm was quite full. Got seated right away and placed an order for wine and was presented with menus that offered a very good selection. I don't think it's an oversell to claim this might be the best Chinese food in Walnut Creek, at the very least. Not the entire East Bay but definitely Walnut Creek. The food is by no means dirt cheap (nothing is anymore these days) if you don't get the lunch specials but you still get absolutely fantastic value in very generous portions and solid customer service. It's also not in downtown Walnut Creek proper which means it's in an actual parking lot with plentiful parking spots and no need to pay for it. It was the first visit for my daughter, who lives in Southern California, along with her husband and my grandson, so it made the evening extra special. My wife and I went in and yes we happen to be black, and we were not greeted, and when our order was taken it was with what came off as disgruntled and rude. Ordering was speedy. **Menu prices had gone up since out last visit several years ago. This was predictable. Food service was fast, with excellent presentation when served. However, one dish could have been served hotter. Serving portions were large, judged an advantage to ensure take home opportunities. One drawback is the location. Located near one of the busiest intersections, the parking lot is a challenge to enter/exit and is strangely configured. USE CAUTION. Overall, above average. I decided to order Fish Filet w/ Bok Choy, Egg Flower Soup, and steamed rice. The Fish Filet w/ Veggies was very good. There was a generous amount of fish, and the bok choy was tender and easy to eat. Steamed rice was a huge amount of rice. The negative thing was I didn't like their recipe for Egg Flower soup.
