Wow, China Palace is definitely a solid spot for Americanized Chinese food! We stopped by on a whim because we were in the area running an errand, and I'm glad we did. They have lunch specials that come with a rice plate, a small vinaigrette salad, and sweet and sour soup. A lot of Chinese restaurants give you free sweet and sour soup, but I usually don't even bother with it because I never like it. Theirs, though, was actually really good! My wife and I shared the sweet and sour shrimp and Mongolian beef, and both were hits. The shrimp had a nice crispy batter, and the sauce was on point--sweet and tangy without being too heavy. The Mongolian beef was especially good. The beef looked like each piece was individually floured and pan-fried before being tossed in the sauce, which gave it an extra layer of flavor and texture. We also learned that one of the older ladies is married to the gentleman who owns the restaurant and he makes all of their sauces from scratch. Would definitely come back. I've been going to China Palace since I first moved to WC 9 years ago. Never had a bad meal there until recently. The last 2 times I was there, it was not good. The first time was for lunch and I ordered off the lunch menu, which I normally don't do, so I thought maybe the quality isn't the same for lunch items as regular items. The 2nd time was for dinner and we had a lovely array of items. None of the dishes looked the same as they used to and not one was as good as it used to be. This is so disappointing. Considering how lousy our dinner was and how much their prices have gone up ($105 for 2 people), CP is sadly off my list. Also, considering the same people own it and how much prices have gone up, one could hope they didn't have to skimp on quality as well. But no. And I get it that prices have gone up everywhere, but these prices were outrageous compared to what they were previously. Judy, the co-owner, is the same wonderful person she's always been and I know they all work their butts off, but this was unacceptable. Makes me really sad as as the first review says, this has been my go-to Chinese for years. read more

Just the hole in the wall Chinese we were looking for. No frills no drama, this place hit the spot for good Chinese. Not greasy, flavorful, China Palace is sure to have what you're looking for. The only "disappointing" thing was that they did not have the appetizer sampler available anymore and the calamari was not available at the time that we ordered. But not a super big deal. When I went in to pick up, they were just direct and straight to the point, which I think is what some people confused with being "rude" in some of the other reviews I read. If you're looking for some quality Chinese food in the concord/walnut area, this is the spot. Local, family owned, mom and pop restaurant that does it the right way. Service is quick and efficient. This unassuming small restaurant surprised me with the quality of their food. I ordered the salt and pepper tofu and was pleasantly surprised by the crispness and fluffiness of the tofu as well as the generous portion. Especially for a lunch special combo. The experience here goes beyond the delicious food. The moment my family and I stepped in to this cute room, we were greeted by the lovely owner and her family. We were seated instantly and tended to right away. The drinks we ordered came out before we even noticed the server walk away. They gave us great recommendations of the fried prawns, and Mongolian beef that were both fantastic. We also had the chow mein and orange chicken which was fresh, crispy, and very apparently homemade. All of this food was topped with a homemade chili paste with a delicious smoky and spicy flavor. I don't think it's an oversell to claim this might be the best Chinese food in Walnut Creek, at the very least. Not the entire East Bay but definitely Walnut Creek. The food is by no means dirt cheap (nothing is anymore these days) if you don't get the lunch specials but you still get absolutely fantastic value in very generous portions and solid customer service. It's also not in downtown Walnut Creek proper which means it's in an actual parking lot with plentiful parking spots and no need to pay for it. All this to say, China Palace is going to be my family's go to for Chinese food whenever we're in Walnut Creek. read more

My new favorite resturaunt ! Awesome little spot right off Treat Blvd exit! Excellent food and a beautiful ambiance. The staff and owner are all very polite and have a great personality. Everything came out hot and fresh! My family ordered the egg rolls to start and they were crispy with a perfect crunch. Next we had the Broccoli and Beef (which is my personal favorite). The broccoli was not mushy like most places, it had a nice fresh bite to it and the beef was deliciously prepared. If youre anywhere within 10 miles of this place its a MUST. Highly recommended, but don't take it from me, go and treat yourself and support a family owned restaurant that truly cares about their customers and the quality of their food. 5/5 read more

I called and ordered, was given a 25-minute quote, arrived exactly at 25-minutes and my food was ready, warm, and nicely packaged. I ordered at about 4:30 PM, so beat the dinner rush. My daughter had her usual - Chicken Chow Mein and Beef Fried Rice, and I tried something new - Imperial Chicken. The chow mein and rice were as good as always, and once I tasted the Imperial Chicken I had to finish the whole thing :) We first discovered China Palace when we were in temporary housing several years ago and have been a patron for more than a decade. The service was ok, the food was ok, and definitely was just ok with the price they charged! We ordered four dishes, including the shrimp wonton soup, fried rice, general Tso's chicken, and tofu vegetables. The shrimp and wonton soup was not that flavorful. The average price of about $20/dish was painful. Did I order the wrong dishes. OK we've been on the hunt for an authentic Chinese restaurant in Concord. We stumbled upon China Palace. When we walked in we were greeted and we sat down. The owner Judy was very engaging and she asked how we found out about the place. She proceeded to tell me that her husband makes the sauces from scratch etc. And her nephews are the cooks as well. She was super friendly. We asked how long she's been there and she told us 13 years I can't believe I've never even seen this place .. She was so engaging . We ordered honey walnut prawns, Mongolian beef, chicken chow mein, steamed rice and general tsaos chicken . We ordered 2 beers as well.This place did not disappoint!! The honey walnut prawns and the chicken had a glaze on it but the batter itself stayed crispy the whole time! A lot of times it can get soggy. Everything had lots of flavor .
