salt and pepper tofu with fried rice from lunch special menu
Keefe I.

If you're looking for some quality Chinese food in the concord/walnut area, this is the spot. Local, family owned, mom and pop restaurant that does it the right way. Service is quick and efficient. This unassuming small restaurant surprised me with the quality of their food. I ordered the salt and pepper tofu and was pleasantly surprised by the crispness and fluffiness of the tofu as well as the generous portion. Especially for a lunch special combo. I also strongly recommend the Peking Chicken off the lunch special menu. Can't recommend China Palace enough if you're in the mood for great Chinese food.

I don't think it's an oversell to claim this might be the best Chinese food in Walnut Creek, at the very least. Not the entire East Bay but definitely Walnut Creek. The food is by no means dirt cheap (nothing is anymore these days) if you don't get the lunch specials but you still get absolutely fantastic value in very generous portions and solid customer service. It's also not in downtown Walnut Creek proper which means it's in an actual parking lot with plentiful parking spots and no need to pay for it. All this to say, China Palace is going to be my family's go to for Chinese food whenever we're in Walnut Creek.

I had a fantastic experience here! Every dish we ordered was delicious and full of flavor. We had the orange chicken, veggie chow mein, garlic shrimp, veggie egg rolls, siu mai, and veggie fried rice, and every single item was excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and it was clear that a lot of care went into the food. The service was just as impressive. Judy took great care of us and was incredibly friendly, attentive, and prompt throughout our meal. She made us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. If you're looking for great Chinese food with outstanding customer service, I highly recommend this restaurant. We'll definitely be back!

Such a hidden gem! The flavors were amazing, portions were huge, and everything came out piping hot. Perfect comfort food when you're craving classic Chinese dishes. Great service by Judy! Thank you :) Highly recommend!

Shrimp and wonton soup

We were in the area and I was craving for Chinese food. With 2.1k reviews for an average of 4.5 stars, I thought it was going to be good...but it was regretful at the end. The service was ok, the food was ok, and definitely was just ok with the price they charged! We ordered four dishes, including the shrimp wonton soup, fried rice, general Tso's chicken, and tofu vegetables. The shrimp and wonton soup was not that flavorful. The average price of about $20/dish was painful. Did I order the wrong dishes. I don't know, but I agree with another reviewer, I won't be coming back since the price was so high for just simple dishes at a normal Chinese restaurant.

Chicken lettuce wrap

I visited this restaurant for the first time and had a good order. The chicken lettuce wrap was really tasty, the hot and sour soup is good, and the shrimp with vegetables was just okay, but overall I enjoyed the meal.

OK we've been on the hunt for an authentic Chinese restaurant in Concord. We stumbled upon China Palace. When we walked in we were greeted and we sat down. The owner Judy was very engaging and she asked how we found out about the place. She proceeded to tell me that her husband makes the sauces from scratch etc. And her nephews are the cooks as well. She was super friendly. We asked how long she's been there and she told us 13 years I can't believe I've never even seen this place .. She was so engaging . We ordered honey walnut prawns, Mongolian beef, chicken chow mein, steamed rice and general tsaos chicken . We ordered 2 beers as well. This place did not disappoint!! The honey walnut prawns and the chicken had a glaze on it but the batter itself stayed crispy the whole time! A lot of times it can get soggy. Everything had lots of flavor . We definitely will be back, we can wait to try other items on the menu

China palace was very kind and accommodating to our timing request & vegan modifications for our employee event lunch. The food was delicious but plain because we had to modify for vegans so that is a factor but everyone loved the food & requested it again next year!

Walked in here for some hot and sour soup, and had some fried rice and Sichuan chicken. The food was typical and nothing to write home about, but the service was kind, prompt and caring. It showed in then greeting their patrons and asking about them courteously. Stop by and support this restaurant if you're in the area!

Another fantastic experience at China Palace. Hands down our favorite Chinese restaurant in the East Bay‼ Judy , the owner and her family always treat us like family The food is phenomenal and plentiful The setting is small and very cozy.

I honestly don't know where to begin. The owner gave me aunty vibes lol and I love that! I felt like I was home. She made sure I was ok and the food was prepared properly. I ordered the crab puffs (crispy, flavorful and a good size portion). The sweet and sour pork came right out the wok! Hot crispy with fresh veggies mixed in. And last but not least, the bbq pork fried rice, the star of the show! That reminded me of my childhood favorite restaurant (Golden Palace), ironically this place is called China Palace and that's what caught my eye. Needless to say, I'm glad I paid a visit because the service was awesome and the food was amazing!

Very delicious!!! Judy is great!! Very friendly staff. Nice and clean. Again the food is fabulous!!

Really, no notes (I know from me that shocks most of you; granted you're justified in your expectations of such). Service is a little on the slow side but everyone is really nice and working hard so no dings there. One thing I'd love to see on the menu is steamed green beans with garlic. I adore those with XLB. Overall is it a Din Tai rip-off? I wouldn't say that, more like an homage for half the price and without the two hour wait. You won't leave disappointed or hungry. Give Dough Zone a shot.

Here's what we ordered: Shrimp Fried Rice (6.5/10): The portion was good, but it was lacking a bit of flavor. Some bites were seasoned well while others tasted a little bland, so the seasoning felt uneven. Once I added the chili oil, though, it gave the rice a nice kick and made it much more enjoyable. BBQ Pork (10/10): My favorite dish of the meal! It was affordable, incredibly flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The balance of tender meat and just the right amount of fat made every bite delicious. Chicken Feet (9/10): Great flavor with a nice kick. You can really taste the jalapeño, which adds a subtle spice without overpowering the dish. Fried Shrimp Meatballs (8/10): These were a little on the oily side, but they had great flavor. The dipping sauce paired with them perfectly and really brought everything together. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Between the excellent service, tasty food, and reasonable prices, I would definitely come back whenever I'm craving dim sum!

The BBQ pork buns, shu mai, potstickers, and especially the turnip cakes were all super good. The combination fried rice was delicious, not oily at all, and the portion size was very generous. We also ordered the General Chicken, salt and pepper fish, mapo tofu, and Singapore noodles. We definitely ordered enough for very hungry people, and still had plenty left to take home. The space itself is very welcoming and open -- clean, comfortable, and not overly stuffy. The servers were attentive, friendly, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. This isn't always created equally. lol some places it almost looks like they served frozen store bought siu Mai, but this was legit! Honey walnut prawns - I'm obsessed with this!! We all left knowing we'd definitely be back with our families and friends. The ultimate highlight for me was a surprisingly unique Salt and Pepper Squid. I am not usually a squid lover, but this beautiful dish instantly enticed me. The squid was presented almost like cauliflower and cooked to crisp perfection, complemented by vibrant red and green peppers. What is often a tasteless ingredient was bursting with rich umami flavor! The Changsha Chicken Clay Pot was packed with flavor and tender chicken. Similarly, the Seafood Tofu Clay Pot--a Cantonese classic--was exceptionally well prepared. The Cumin Lamb was incredibly tender; while I don't eat lamb myself, the rest of our table absolutely loved it. Even the Orange Peel Chicken (or General Tso's)--a classic Americanized Chinese dish with fried chicken in a sweet and sour sauce--was a big hit with those who ordered it. Lunch was also served with their signature pickled vegetables, fried peanuts, and a choice of hot and sour or corn soup--all of which were delicious. Located in a quiet corner of the Countrywood Shopping Center, Sichuan House is a spinoff of the highly popular Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill. Over the years, the menu has evolved to suit local tastes by incorporating popular Cantonese specialties and non-spicy options alongside traditional fare. I accidentally found Kung Fu Kitchen by reading another Yelper's reviews who was at the same Stretch Zone I was trying out in Clayton. Like others have mentioned, the shrimp is plump and succulent. I enjoyed the shrimp in my chow fun. The chow fun itself had good texture albeit too much soy sauce. The Hong Kong noodles were beautiful to look at and had everything you can imagine on it. There were two kinds of mushrooms, chicken, beef, sweet peas, shrimp and bok choy. The sauce in the Hong Kong noodles was not very strong but the amount of high quality toppings made up for it. The dry braised green beans had good crunch and there was a generous amount but the flavoring was also on the light side. This is good for people on low sodium diets. Both the Hong Kong noodle dish and the green bean dish were generously sized but the chow fun dish is more of a one person dish. They come on nice bright white plates. Prices were not cheap but it is the norm for the area. We paid close to 60 dollars after tip for three dishes at lunch and had some leftovers. They have very good lunch specials on the weekdays that give you plenty of food for about 13 dollars a person. People near us were enjoying their lunch specials. However, I advise taking to go on hot days because it was 95° inside the restaurant and there was no AC. I was wearing a thick hoodie today and it was pretty hot the entire time I was eating inside.
