    Wonton in Chili Oil (10)
    Robert C.

This is always a good quick meal spot, especially after we play a round at Boundary Oak. We did the self-order on the tablet at the table. It's easy to use. We got our usual large orders of everything! The potstickers, chili won ton, and XLB were the standouts. The Har Gow was just ok this time... could use some water chestnuts for texture. All in all, good food and service.

Worthy of a good chuckle! Glad I didn't get stage fright

3 adults for dinner and we had some leftovers! Here's the deets.... Shanghai chicken chow mein - Very filling but super tasty. Nice texture to the noodles. Wife didnt like how long they were but the son and I didnt mind. Twist and bite!  Shrimp egg fried rice - rice was perfectly done, nice amount of egg and veggies mixed in, nice flavors.

A solid option for dim sum, served quickly in a no-frills restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Food was good overall and came out fast. Here's what we had: Crab & Pork XLB (4.5/5) Shrimp & Pork Shaomai (4.5/5) Cucumber Salad (4/5) Pan Fried Pork Bun (4/5) Ordering from a tablet at our table was convenient. Employees were friendly. They were busy with the lunch rush so it took a while to get our check. You can also serve yourself water and tea but I didn't realize this until we were on our way out. This is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking.

First time here , clean and cute very convenient to order there is a kiosk in each table or u could also order in front so no line which is great . We had chicken chowmein , black garlic ramen and the chocolate dumplings and a taro boba drink. The chowmein is delicious tasted fresh , the ramen was also good but the broth/soup it came with could be warmer /hotter . The boba came with cubed ice which I was not expecting the flavor was ok , the chocolate dumplings that came with a sea salt cream foam was good as well there is the element of surprise it would have been a lot better if the wrap was extra thin so it will just melt in your mouth and to probably give a choice of dark chocolate or milk . chocolate . The whole experience though was great . Will come back to taste their other dishes which is fairly priced

Me and my friend order siomai,, beef roll and tonkatsu. To my surprise CHAN come to our table and ask me if I want to split into two bowls our soup. I said absolutely. I was so happy the hospitality and his gesture. Not every owner come by and acknowledge the costumer in a busy time. Also ISAAC is accommodating and and so polite to ask and give me hot tea one of my fav. On top of that food so delicious. I definitely go back here with all my friends again thank you so much again Chang for the delicious food

Not as good as expected. I came here on a Saturday and this place was busy. It is in the same plaza as Trader Joe's and has plenty of parking around. To order, you do it at the register. It can be a bit overwhelming if there is a long line and you don't know what to get. It is best to step aside to look at the menu. The line moves fast. We ordered various dishes: - Egg Fried Rice with Chicken was our favorite! It looks simple but it tastes good. -Wonton in Chill Oil: I usually love this dish at other places, but I was disappointed. Something about the taste of the dumplings did not appeal to me. They were bland and very basic. -The Fried Shrimp had a lot of batter and very little meat. It was good, but it was dense because of the thick batter. -Cucumber Salad: The cucumbers were big and garlicky. It tasted fresh, but it was also okay. -Popcorn Chicken: The chicken pieces were very fried. I was not a fan of them, and I wouldn't recommend this dish. -Beef Rolls: Several people were eating this, and the dish was good. It has a bit of a sweet taste to it, but the dish is good overall. My daughter likes it. -Pork XiaoLongBao, you can't go wrong with this dish. They were good. Overall this place is a solid 3. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. They are known for certain dishes and I think that's why people come here.

Black & Gold Molten Lava Buns

We came here for a family Sunday lunch, and it was pretty chill. You know the drill: order at the counter, grab a table, wait for your food. Food was affordable and came out pretty quick, within 15 minutes! You can also see them food prepping and cooking behind the window which we enjoyed. Here's the lowdown: Pork XLB (soup dumplings): Actually really good! The broth was hot and tasty, and the dumpling skin was on point. Beef rolls: Just okay for me, the beef could've been a little more tender. However, my mom really loved them! Tonkotsu Ramen: A bit disappointing, but what I would expect from place that doesn't specialize in ramen. It did taste like they used packaged noodles. But here's the real star: those black and gold molten lava buns. Holy wow. I've never had anything like them before. The warm salted egg custard inside was crazy delicious!

Overall this place was pretty good! The service was nice and the environment was well decorated. The grilled squid had a great sauce, however the flavor in the chicken ramen was slightly lacking. We also got pork soup dumplings but they did come out pretty late compared to the rest of the food. However overall the food was good!

The Walnut Creek/Concord area has seen a recent boom of dumpling restaurants, with about half a dozen opened within the last 18 months. 88 Bao Bao joined the fray about six months ago by opening a new shop in the Oak Grove Plaza, right at the border of the two aforementioned cities. My family and I came here for dinner on 03/31/2024. It wasn't too busy when we walked in at around 6:45pm. The staff greeted us and told us to sit anywhere we please. We opted for a table towards the back. Menus and ordering sheet were brought to us by one of the staffers. Unlike full-service restaurants, ordering was done at the counter with the marked ordering sheet, and payment for the meal was required in advance. We ordered five items - Crab and Pork XLB, Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (har gow), Shaomai (shumai), Popcorn Chicken, and Cucumber Salad. The total, with T/T, was about $72. Here's a quick recap on what we got: 1) Crab and Pork XLB - Good. The XLB skin had the appropriate thickness and held the filling well. The filling was juicy and flavorful and the crab and roe mixture on top tasted fresh. Personally, I prefer the crabmeat and roe be mixed in with the pork filling. Also, no julienned ginger was offered. 2) Har Gow and Shu Mai - Both were tasty. They were made the traditional Cantonese way. Chopped fresh bamboo shoots and shiitake mushrooms were added to the har gow and shu mai fillings. These additions are a rarity nowadays, even in dim sum restaurants. The only negative was the har gow skin was a tad thick. 3) Popcorn Chicken - Okay but not great. More seasoning needed. 4) Cucumber Salad - Cool and refreshing. The taste of the marinade was more on the sweet side. Service we received was terrific. The staff was enthusiastic, welcoming, and helpful. Overall, 88 Bao Bao is a nice addition to the Walnut Creek/Concord dining scene. Their dumpling offerings are authentic and delicious, and the pricing is reasonable. My family and I will be back. 4 stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site. - Major credit cards accepted. - Outdoor seating available.

    Dumplings in chili oil
    Robert H.

Parking - located at corner of Treat and Oak Grove (Trader Joes /Petsmart) next to the high school Service - prompt and friendly Food - pretty good. When you need a dumpling fix this is a good choice XLB - solid. A bitty doughy for me but it works. No ginger tho. What's up with that? Dumplings in chili oil - my favorite Potstickers - good. pork bun - my only disappointment. Too doughy for me.

Beef noodle soup, wonton with red chili oil.
    Julie Y.

They've changed to thicker noodles which I love because they are chewy, the beef slices are tender & flavorful. The broth is also flavorful and not greasy at all. Overall tasty and healthy beef noodle soup.

    Do they serve alcohol?

    No, they don't.

Are there halal options and is this a pro-Palestine establishment?

I don't believe there are halal options. This is a great place to eat that serves everyone that enjoys delicious dim sum and not having to drive far. Dim sum menu is not large but satisfies the craving!

I've heard of Yi Ji Chang Fen but only tried it today. I've eaten so much dim sum in my lifetime, so my standard for dim sum may be higher. We came around 5PM on a Saturday and there wasn't anyone really there. It could be because dim sum feels more like a morning or lunch thing, or it could just be because we were there for a very early dinner. Between our party, we shared: - Marinated Chicken and Mushroom Rice Roll - Stuffed Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - Steamed Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce - Black Gold Egg Custard Buns - Chicken Feet with Herbs - Dry Style Beef Chow Fun And one Honey Lemon Tea for me. The honey lemon tea was a comfort for the cold day. Maybe a bit too much honey, but still good for the throat during the dry season. The chow fun came first and surprisingly it was not bad. There was a bit of 'wok hey' there and it stands out as one of the better dishes we had. As for the rice roll - I wanted to try something less conventional and I've never seen chicken in rice rolls, so I thought it would be interesting to try. It was quite disappointing though. Their rice roll was bigger than normal in width so with rice rolls being a struggle to pick up already, the bigger size made it an even bigger struggle. Everything just slipped out of the rice roll and it wasn't evenly wrapped. There were some bunched up layers on the edges. I think the chicken just didn't pair that well either and it was lacking in ingredients. Maybe the more conventional rice rolls would be better. For the two types of chicken feet, I normally like the one in herbal soup. If made well, the chicken feet has a nice flavor to it. For Yi Fen's herbal chicken feet, their portion was pretty good, but flavor was less prominent. I enjoyed the chicken feet in black bean sauce more because the flavor was better. Lastly, for the stuffed sticky rice and black gold egg custard buns, I suspect that these are not made in-house, but rather store-bought. The sticky rice lacked ingredients and the rice was a little harder than if made fresh. And the perfectly shaped black buns with a golden brush stroke on top (which I've seen all over the internet) seemed too elevated-looking compared to everything else. I'm not the biggest fan of molten lava buns, but they came out nicely. I didn't have any, but the molten lava custard was pretty runny. All in all, an okay experience. Service was a bit lacking. I don't recommend the dim sum dishes, but if I happen to want congee, I may give this place another go. Apart from the dim sum and rice rolls, the noodles I glimpsed from other customers looked not bad. I wonder if other locations are better.

Service is slow and must be prompted to get any attention which is fine but different from other…read morelocations. The food is better than Berkeley and congee was the right consistency and my kids liked the food. Would be a great location if service is better. Whether you're in town for jury duty, work, or play, here is a good lunch spot. I walked into Aberdeen Café during the lunch hour. Booths lined the wall on one side, and the bar was on the other. Korean pop music played softly while other customers ate lunch. I was seated at the booth and was served a glass of water to start. I got the #2015 Salt and Pepper Fish Filet lunch special with hot and sour soup of the day, egg roll, and substituted-in fried rice. I was served the hot and sour soup first. It was a wonderful appetizer. The classic spicy pepper and sour vinegar were balanced. The bits of crunchy mushroom and soft tofu added interest and texture to the thick broth. This was comfort in a bowl. The entree was delicious. The fried fish was hot off the wok when it arrived, steaming on the plate along with fried rice, broccoli, an egg roll, and some sweet and sour sauce. I enjoyed the fish; the heat of the jalapeno slices and the salt elevated the light crispiness and mild sweetness of the fish. The fried rice was light and fluffy with bits of egg. The sauteed broccoli had a solid crunch, and the vegetable egg roll was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This was a good, satisfying lunch at Aberdeen Café. When I'm in the mood for comforting Cantonese food again, I'll be back for more.

As I was serving the soup, I noticed something unusual. When I picked it out and placed it on the counter, it was clearly a yellow worm. Completely shocked, I contacted Uber Eats customer service. They only offered a refund for the soup, not the chow fun, because the issue wasn't visible in that item. But honestly, how am I supposed to feel comfortable eating anything else from the same order after finding a worm in one dish? I then called the restaurant to report what happened, and instead of addressing the seriousness of the issue, the manager asked what we wanted them to do and even offered free food. That response was disappointing and didn't feel appropriate given the situation. It's unfortunate because we've ordered from here before and the food was good, but after this experience, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the rest of the meal. Dinner and our appetite was completely ruined and it came with a price.
