Happy Family (Prawn, Scallop, BBQ Pork, Chicken and mixed vegetables) and steamed rice
    Martha G.

Chef Choy, will be closing its doors permanently in June once their lease is up so we decided to show our support. Our lunch service was quick, and delicious. We started with hot and sour soup, had the right amount of sour and great flavor. I ordered the Chicken with Black Bean Sauce (it was salty for me) and fried rice. My friend ordered the Happy Family and steamed rice. Both luncheon specials came with appetizer: fried wonton & egg roll (they were not greasy) Let's show our profound gratitude and support as they approach their final months.

It went great the lunch plate was excellent serve very hot . I think it's the only way to serve Chinese food . I had beef and tofu excellent just like my mom use to make comes with an egg roll and a won ton fried rice was very good . My wife had the general Taos chicken dish all breast meat very good . Sorry to hear they are closing this summer some time hope they change their mind. I be sorry to lose this place . The server are very attentive and the place is clean that's important for a Chinese restaurant . Soup was served very hot . Try this place out before they close you won't be sorry

Went to Chef Choy a couple of times to get takeout items. So far Ive ordered Mongolian beef, hot and sour soup and Wonton soup. All were delicious!!! The Mongolian was flavorful and the meat were tender. I took it home and ate it with white rice! The sauce was tasty and wished it had more! So, both soups were not disappointed, thank goodness! They tasted like how they supposed too. I'm happy about that. If it didn't, I wouldn't return! Overall, I'm satisfied and can't wait to try the other items in the menu! You should too!

Ordered take out for a big party at work. They have a great lunch special where you get a main item, rice and an egg roll. Since my coworker loves this place I thought well let's give it a go! I'm Jesse's so many great things and this place has been around for ever. I had my go to spot in Martinez but once they switched owners.... It hasn't been the same. Many people ordered off the lunch menu, everything from broccoli beef to sweet and sour pork. Everyone's dish looked extremely delicious! I myself thought about ordering from the lunches because you could choose chow mein as your main dish but then rice with it... to many carbs! I got myself a regular order of chicken chow mein and it was a healthy portion! Filled with massive chunks of chicken, nice thick noodles, and just delicious flavors in your mouth. The service was quick, ordered and ready in 20 mins, from the inside it looks like a Chinese restaurant, now they are competing with the Philippine restaurant next door.

I've eaten her plenty of times and I like there food But this trip was not good We ordered Togo which it took longer then expected but it's New Year's Eve I get it. My husband ordered chow fun and found metal in his noodles. Definitely disappointed.

Solid Chinese food for a decent price. Large portion with lunch specials available. Hot and sour soup was tasty, chicken is tender and egg roll is crispy. Been here twice when nearby. Pretty decor and friendly staff.

Egg fu young with bbq pork on top, steamed rice, vegetable spring roll and one fried wonton chip, both with sweet n sour sauce.

3.5. It was good, just not quite my kind of place. I've really been craving good old egg foo young. I had it one local place that was bad (they're out of biz) and one place where it was tasty, but surprising to me, a big wide flat omelet - guess I'm picky. I've always had a rounded thicker pancake or patty, the sort-of flying saucer shape from the bottom of the wok... chef choy serves that. I walked in at lunch, they weren't very busy. I was seated quickly. No egg foo young on the lunch menu, but when I mentioned that to my server, she said they could do it as lunch special. Two minutes later, my hot 'n sour soup was on my table. 75-90 seconds later, my entree plate arrived. When I said "wow, so fast!" Server replied with "seven people in kitchen" (maybe she said eleven?) I didn't notice until later, but the check was placed on my table with my entree. It's a generous portion. I've never had egg foo young with the protein on top rather than in the cooked pancake. I'm guessing it's their efficient method... start all varieties the same, then put different protein on top with sauce. I ordered pork, it came with generous portion, big slices of pork... weird to have to cut into bite size pieces to eat. It was tasty. It occurred to me that it arrived so fast, I wondered if they were partly pre-cooked/prepared... but I guess a small omelet would cook in 2-3 minutes. I paid and was out of there in less than 25 minutes of being seated. Very reasonably priced - I think my lunch plate was $15 + tax. No complaint. I'd recommend the place to someone who likes Cantonese food, and wants lunch in a hurry. But I'll stick to the more flavorful Sichuan places around the area, or what seems like more authentic Chinese noodle or dumpling places. And maybe, every once in a while, I'll try another Cantonese place for the egg foo young as I remember it.

We ordered one lunch special combo chow fun and one beef chow fun

The flavor is…read moreremarkably similar to the spicy beef noodle soup I tried in Taipei--rich, savory, and packed with intensely spicy chili oil that can make you cough if you slurp too quickly. The noodles are thick and bouncy, and the beef chunks are incredibly tender. It's a deeply comforting bowl, especially during the winter when a warming soup hits the spot. The restaurant wasn't too busy on a weeknight, though they seemed to receive a steady stream of phone orders, which was great to see. There were also a few dine-in customers while we were there. Parking was very easy since they had their own private lot. One thing to note: when we dined in, there was only one staff member handling everything--answering phone calls, greeting guests, taking orders, and bringing out food. Because of that, it could be a little hard to get her attention at times, but she was friendly whenever she came by.

While he was working incredibly hard, it's unfair to both the staff and the customers to have a "one-man show" during dinner rush. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and a full hour for food--which is nearly impossible when you have a hungry toddler with you. We ordered a non-spicy dish (lotus root) for our toddler, but it arrived spicy anyway. Since we couldn't wait another hour for a remake, she ended up just eating white rice. To top it off, our beef tripe and blood in hot pot broth dish arrived without the blood. When we finally flagged Rambo down, he explained they intentionally exclude it because some customers find it "smelly." As a Chinese customer who specifically ordered the dish for the blood, I found this frustrating and deceptive. If an ingredient is being removed from a titled dish, guests must be notified upfront. We enjoyed the flavors of the spicy tan tan noodles, lotus root, black pepper lamb, and ma-po tofu, but the management needs to hire more weekend staff. We'll stick to takeout from now on.

This is a restaurant where the menu doesn't just list dishes...it teaches you something. The moment you open the menu, you know you're in the right place. The Cold Plate (冷盤) section alone reads like a passport stamp to Chengdu: BEEF TRIPE & BEEF FLAKE (夫妻肺片) - tender, numbing, and electric with Sichuan peppercorns. If you know, you know. Sliced Pork with Spicy Garlic (蒜泥白肉) - silky, rich, and packed with real chili heat. North Sichuan Green Pea Jelly (川北冷粉) - hot, sour, spicy, and addictive. Spicy Pig Ear (紅油豬耳) - crunchy, aromatic, and perfectly done. Jellyfish Salad (葱油海蜇) - refreshing, light, and authentically seasoned. These aren't "safe choices for the American palate." These are dishes straight from the Sichuan playbook, and they are done properly. And then the entrées -- highlights worth calling out: Sichuan Tea-Smoked Duck (香辣樟茶鴨) - smoky, spicy, fragrant; a dish you don't see done right very often. They nail it. Boiled Fish Fillet in Chili Oil (水煮魚片) - a must-order for anyone who really understands Sichuan cuisine. Beautiful heat and numbing balance. Cumin Beef or Lamb (孜然牛/羊肉) - bold, aromatic, and cooked with confidence. Dry-Fried Green Beans (干扁四季豆) - textbook execution. The menu is huge, but instead of feeling generic, it feels like a curated journey through Sichuan: hot pots, clay pots, seafood, offal, noodles, cold appetizers, and delicacies you rarely see outside China.
