Combination of tonkatsu, gyoza, and spicy tuna roll.
    Patrick J.

This place has a nice clean, modern decor which is unusual for Pleasant Hill. The food is quite good and is generous. The tonkatsu and gyoza I ordered was not too greasy and good. The spicy tuna roll was the right proportion of rice to tuna. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. This place only takes reservations for larger parties so it is better to arrive early.

Food: The lunch specials offer generous portions and excellent value. We also ordered the chirashi to go, which was beautifully presented and generously portioned. The seafood was fresh and enjoyable, though I wish it included a wider variety beyond fish, such as squid and uni, along with a more generous serving of ikura. Service: The service was excellent. Since it was our first visit, our server was especially patient, welcoming, and happy to answer our questions, making us feel comfortable throughout the meal. Ambience: The ambience was exceptional. The tables were thoughtfully spaced, providing plenty of privacy, and the chairs were very comfortable. Even the restroom was spotless and tastefully decorated, reflecting the restaurant's attention to detail. Overall, while this isn't a traditional Japanese restaurant, it has many wonderful qualities. With its comfortable setting, attentive service, and generous lunch offerings, it's an excellent place to enjoy a relaxing lunch with friends.

This place was a nice surprise. I ordered the zaru soba with tempura. You don't see that on many menus, so it was a tasty change. I will say that the one shrimp in the tempura assortment was the tiniest tempura shrimp ive ever seen. It was more of a vegetarian meal, which was fine. I also ordered some nigiri to test that for possible future visits. It did not disappoint. Service was great. Booths could use solid barriers between them as I had to listen to some fool talk non-stop about his work with some poor coworker. I will definitely be back.

This has become my top sushi spot in concord. The restaurant is very nice and cute. The staff is extremely pleasant and professional. The food quality is amazing. And the menu selection is great!

Nobuya Kaisen Box! Again, Premium ingredients - so yummy and fresh!

This is now my favorite Japanese restaurant especially if you like Sashimi!!!! We love the Nobuya Omakase and Nobuya Kaisen Box. The 4 owners, 1 couple owns Ozora, 1 couple owns Banju (formerly Pollo Pollo). Based on that, we went to try their new venture as we always loved Ozora & Banju. Nobuya's decor is so nice and upscale and extremely inviting & warm. We were pleasantly surprised that the price is so reasonable (esp. we ordered the high end Omakase and Kaisen box). Highly recommend!!

My very pregnant friend chose Nobuya for dinner so she could get their fried rolls, her favorite. I immediately locked in on the Nobuya Omakase box ($69) when I looked through the menu and other reviews. The presentation felt like a proper treat (like a box of chocolates lol), and with the wasabi/ginger came a side of 10ish strips of seaweed. I appreciated the option to make your own mini hand rolls with the sashimi and sushi rice with roe :) Good amount of parking (there is a lot and street parking) and our server was lovely. Bathrooms are huge (you go one at a time, no stalls) and the interior is very reminiscent of Japan. Stunning space!

Nobuya is a great new addition to the area offering a trendy sushi and Izakaya spot! The ambience and food offerings make it a great spot for a casual or a celebration meal. When we got there at 6 on a Saturday there was wait as expected. However, the wait wasn't too bad. The service was great as our main server and everyone who tended to us (including a man at the sushi bar) were all very welcoming and helpful! To get an assortment of items, my partner and I got the Agedashi Tofu, Sashimi Selection, Kushi Sampler, and Gozen w/ chicken katsu and Mixed tempura. They started our party off with Miso soup which was a nice addition! The stand outs were the sashimi selection which had really delicious, fresh sashimi and the Gozen which had solid dishes. The agedashi tofu was okay. The tofu was fried nicely, but the sauce was so subtle in flavor, you really had to dip the tofu in to taste it. However, the flavor of the sauce was delicious when you could taste it. Next time, I would skip the Kushi sampler. It tasted good, but the price was a bit hefty. The chicken skin was especially a small amount compared to other yakitori spots. There was not many kushiyaki or yakitori spots in this area, so this is a good spot to get it without going too far! Overall, a GREAT restaurant. The food was solid, and I will definitely be back! Also heads up, the parking in this area is not the greatest as many things are cramped into that area.

Avocado roll: Avocado and cucumber, clean and simple

If Sasa is your bar for sushi, Nobuya in Pleasant Hill clears it. Found this spot through Yelp, read the reviews, and went to see for myself. Glad I did. We went on a weekday right when the doors opened, which turned out to be the smart move. No trouble parking and no wait for a table. The room is quiet, well lit, and has a traditional elegance to the woodwork and screens that most sushi places in the area skip. The menu runs deep: daily specials, starters, bowls, noodles, skewers, nigiri, sashimi, and two full pages of rolls. We ordered Edamame, the Rainbow Roll, Alaska Roll, Seaweed Salad, Cherry Blossom Roll, and an Avocado Roll. Every plate landed fresh and clean. The Rainbow Roll was the standout. Each piece tasted bright and the fish was clearly handled with care. If you order one thing, make it that. The Seaweed Salad deserves a callout too, well dressed and a step above the usual version you get around here. Service was the other high point. We were greeted on arrival, and almost the whole staff said goodbye on the way out. Professional and friendly at every turn. The pace moved fast across the board: seated quickly, order taken quickly, food out quickly, payment quick. No dead time waiting on anyone. One planning note worth knowing. Reservations are only for parties of six or more. For a smaller group, walk in early like we did and you should be fine, especially on a weekday. We left full and satisfied. For fresh fish, a calm room, and staff who clearly care, this is an easy return. Go at opening, get the Rainbow Roll, and save room for the Seaweed Salad.

I had to check out the new sushi spot in town. The inside is very cute and modern and clean. Service is very fast and friendly. Our table we were seated at was awkward, the staff were constantly wheeling dish carts past us. And we were kind of in the middle of the restaurant. This is why I took off a star, I just felt uncomfortable. We received free miso soup which is such a lovely perk! I ordered the orange head roll which was spicy salmon on top, crab meat and avocado inside. It tasted very fresh. Very yummy! The only bummer was there was a piece of what seemed like shrimp shell in one of the bites. Price was reasonable for the size and quality. My friend ordered the spicy tuna roll and I tried it and it was good! She also got a California roll. They were good sized rolls. All in all a nice new spot. I'll be back to try other rolls and see if maybe I can add another star!

Truly had such a great experience dining here. The staff and management took such great care of us and checked on us routinely. The vibe is clean, and great for a date night as the interior gives off an elevated vibe that's still approachable and unpretentious. Everything tasted fresh and I was pleasantly surprised by how "clean" the tonkatsu tasted! Would highly recommend that if you're not in the mood for fish. The omakase box is a great option for those who want to try out something new and visually gorgeous. I'd recommend the baked mussels over the baked scallops in terms of depth of flavor. My only qualm was that the miso soup was a bit too salty, but other than that, everything was delicious and beautifully plated! I love how the bento box comes out. It re-imagines how a bento can be in the best way possible. Would love to come back and try the croquettes next! :)

New classy and delicious Japanese took over the previous KBBQ/Japanese AYCE spot. They definitely leveled up! They did a lovely job of renovating the interior to make it more aesthetically pleasing and inviting. The staff was also very welcoming and sat us in a spacious comfy booth. We ordered and recommend: - 3 item box with chicken teriyaki, Saba shioyaki, mixed tempura - Premium omakase - 9 piece sashimi - Rolls: Chuck Norris, Sora, Ichiban -hamachi kama - fried banana ice cream dessert We loved our meal and finished every bite. Very fresh fish with ample portions, especially the omakase. All sashimi lovers need to get this. The staff even gave my son a cute Nobuya ebi nigiri stuffy keychain- nice touch! Would definitely return- also appreciate the free parking lot.

We (4 of us) got seated right away for dinner at 6:35pm or so, but it took around 20 mins to be given water and to order our food. It seemed there were a lot of takeout orders and they were possibly short staffed since there was just one person packing the takeout orders and seating us / taking orders and bringing the food. After we ordered, we got our waters and it took another 30+ mins for the first couple dishes and even longer for the others. We were there for 2 hours! Ugh!!!! The food itself was good and portions were satisfactory as they were above average. A lot of izakaya a was above average, especially the wait time haha. We tried the following- Gobo chips- more of gobo tempura. It came with a mentaiko sauce which I really enjoyed. Pretty greasy and a lot more batter than I prefer with gobo chips. Gyoza- pretty standard, but good. A Special Roll- soft shell crab inside with avocado and salmon outside were the highlights. Few pieces, but decently sized. Pretty good roll overall. Ocha-zuke- Love these tea / dashi rice with pack of flavor and wasabi. Got both the salmon one and the spicy cod roe ones. Both were good. Love chazuke. Chicken karaage- says 5 pieces, and they were humongous! Tonkotsu ramen- didn't look so appealing, but was alright Bento box with chicken, mix tempura, California roll- he liked the box. I didn't try anything here. I'd come back if it was guaranteed that the food wouldn't take sooooo long. The person serving was nice and had great attitude. They def checked on regulars more often.

The staff is consistently friendly and attentive, and I never feel like it's a hassle to ask for extras or sides, which is something I really appreciate. There's also plenty of parking, which makes the experience even easier. I think the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food, atmosphere, and overall experience. I'll definitely keep coming back!

Tried the lunch set at Tanoshi Japanese Food and was pleasantly surprised by how good the value is…read more The lunch set is only $14, and you can add another item for just $4, so you get a pretty filling meal without spending too much. I got the chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki. Everything tasted really fresh and was nicely prepared. The chicken katsu was definitely my favorite it was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and had great flavor. The salmon teriyaki was also tasty, although I thought the salmon portion was a little on the small side. The option to add another item for only $4 is a great deal too. Definitely a good spot for an affordable and satisfying Japanese lunch!
