Great place for quality sushi downtown. Went with a mix of rolls and the fish was fresh. The dining area is pretty small and can feel a bit cramped during busy hours (especially the outdoor seating area). Tried out some of their creative rolls, which can be ... interesting. My preference was to stick to just the regular stuff.
Our friend ordered the Lobster California Roll with soy paper instead of nori, and after all the years I've been eating sushi I had never seen anyone do that. We copied him. Delicious, and the best thing on our table. First visit for us at Toyosu, over on Locust in Walnut Creek right next to Matsu. The sushi menu runs deep, from straightforward nigiri up to omakase and A5 wagyu, and the quality was very good across everything we ordered. Long sake list too, plus beer and wine by the glass or bottle. Plan around the size of the room. Small place. If you want to sit down without waiting, be there when they open, otherwise expect around 30 minutes. Parking is paid street parking with a big garage nearby, so you won't circle for long. Service was the standout. Nothing was open inside when we arrived, so we took the covered patio out front, and they asked whether we'd want to move indoors if a table opened. We said yes and ordered. A spot freed up after our first round and they came straight over and moved us. Doing that on a full night, unprompted, is not nothing. Noise was better than I expected. The room fills up, but we talked normally the whole meal. Ask for the soy paper wrap. Not printed anywhere on the menu, but clearly an option, and a good change if you're tired of nori. Bring someone who's actually into sushi and order wide. We'd go back.
Strolled into to Toyosu for lunch and got the Hokkaido don and chirashi lunch special to share with my mom. The fish was fresh and tasty. I especially loved their salmon in each of the bowls. It tasted nice and fatty and creamy. I loved the other fish as well though! I also felt that they did their tamago very well. Typically when I get tamago I feel like other restaurants don't get the texture correct and it can come out overcooked/rubbery so I don't end up finishing it. The tamago here was the perfect texture and the flavor/sauce made it really delicious. The texture of the rice in each bowl was great as well. The servers were both really nice and attentive throughout our meal which is always appreciated. I highly recommend sitting outside on the patio if the weather is good! Luckily, the patio is fully covered so the sun doesn't beat down on you which is great!!
The service was really fast, and everyone working there was friendly. Everything tasted fresh and was well made. What we didn't realize before going is that they have a very unique menu. They don't really serve the classic sushi rolls we were expecting. We mainly went because my daughter really wanted sushi, but unfortunately she didn't like the options they had and barely ate anything. I also found the portions on the small side. The prices themselves weren't unreasonable, but they felt a bit high for the amount of food you get. That said, I personally enjoyed what I ordered. It just wasn't the kind of sushi experience I was expecting. I guess this visit taught us that next time we'll check the menu first instead of choosing a sushi place based only on the ratings.
Fresh fish and great food. We got the spiderman roll, firecracker and tekka don. They were made well and everything was fresh. It seems like the restaurant also owns the yakitori place next door which im super interested in. There were three outdoor tables which were nice for people watching. Overall will come back.
Decided to come here for lunch on a Wednesday after heating how good their rolls are. They did not disappoint! I tried the ring of fire and trifecta rolls. The fish was fresh and everything was flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly. Loved the cherry blossom decor too!

I went here on a Sunday afternoon and wasn't sure if it was too late since they were closing in less than an hour for dinner service. They welcomed us in and service was quick and staff were very friendly. We ordered the omakase, sake honey roll, lobster California roll and tempura. The food was quality was great! Fresh fish and the tempura was fried perfectly. I will say that a couple of the nigiri pieces were a bit stringly but other than that the fish was fresh. I would return when I am ever in the area.
This sushi was some of the best I've had, the freshness of the fish was outstanding. The different types of rolls were all so enticing it was so hard to pick just a few. The service was fantastic in this quaint little spot in Walnut Creek. I do wish they had a full bar but the drinks they did offer were fantastic. I will definitely be back here again to try more of their signature rolls.

Service wasn't super fast because every seat was filled, but that's to be expected. My one little nit is that I wish they weren't playing AI generated videos on the tv. It's just an off-putting thing to have to watch while eating. Other than that, would recommend!
Still our favorite sushi spot in the Bay. Excellent fresh seafood and the service is always so good (Rainbow is the best server). Their miso soup is very tasty with fresh mushrooms. And their mochi ice cream is a great way to finish the meal.

Tasty or WasteY???? Not sure.... If the waitress were friendlier it might have made the experience better. Maybe it was a language barrier. The food was just ok. The bathroom was dirty. It was dark. Probably would'nt recommend. But there is a couple of restaurants on both sides that we will probably try on our next visit. Hopefully the atmosphere is better and the bathrooms are cleaner. read more
I have been eyeing this restaurant for 2 months now and finally went. Food, service, and ambiance were all great. Food quality was fantastic. I loved every dish! The specialty rolls are on the smaller side, but the rice to fish ratio was pretty decent. Not a bunch of rice. But still very filling. For the quality and neighborhood, I feel this is very well priced. I would absolutely go again. The carpaccio is fantastic. Highly recommend. I think it would be a good idea to order the omakase, a few specialty rolls, and some appetizers. read more

Exquisite quality. Their Chirashi is my favorite dish. The chef's touch on every dish felt very meticulously prepared. Ambience is something to be desired as this not a place to enjoy quiet romantic dinner. read more

Came in for dinner and was seated right away. The place is small and intimate and has about 10-12 tables. I can easily see this place filling up during meal hours. This place is a solid sushi spot. The omakase I got tasted fresh and I was able to fully appreciate each fish. And this is coming from someone who doesn't order raw sushi a lot. Presentation of each dish was also very nice. You can tell they're not rushing anything and they are giving each customer high quality foods. Service was fast, nice, helpful. 5 stars all around for me read more
Very interesting menu here! There's a lot of small bites that contain uni - something you don't see often in more suburban areas. And overall, the prices seemed quite reasonable for what you're getting as well! I ordered a Uni Tempura ($26) and Hokkaido Don ($35). The Uni Tempura included 4 pieces. Unfortunately, I found that once it was fried, the uni didn't taste like uni anymore :( The outside tasted like salt and vinegar chips. I guess uni just isn't meant to be fried, so this will just be a one time thing for me. The Hokkaido Don had a beautiful presentation, and I was pleasantly surprised to see uni and ikura and a good amount of fish for only $35! Definitely a great value meal. The uni wasn't the best quality though and had some bitter tastes to it, but I honestly wasn't expecting top tier uni at this price point, so I'm not complaining too much. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid sushi spot for this area! read more
Came here on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate my best friend's birthday. We got one omakase nigiri and one premium omakase nigiri to share so we could try a large variety of the raw fish. My favorites were the smoked pieces, as well as anything that was a belly since it's fattier and more melt in your mouth. We also got the daily special - mixed salmon poke bit with crispy rice and avocado. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced! Service was at a good pace and the waitress was really nice. I would recommend coming here if you're craving yummy sushi. read more

Went here for a late lunch on a Saturday. We got the Sake Honey and Ozu rolls as well as a bowl, and 1 miso soup. Good service. Super good and fresh sushi. Went a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about this meal. This was high quality. Place felt clean enough. Bathroom was ok, kind of icky for me. But not a big deal. Located downtown, Lesher Center for the Arts Parking garage just across the street. Street parking also available. Would recommend. I'm definitely coming back. read more
I came here to celebrate a friends birthday as she recommended it. The restaurant is very small and they do not take reservations, but we walked in on a Friday evening and got seated immediately for a party of 5. We started with the agedashi tofu, which was solid, and I ordered the Sunshine Roll and O-Toro Nigiri for my main. While the quality of the fish was good, the portions were very small for the price--$19 for a six-piece roll and $17 for two tiny pieces of toro--leaving me both hungry and disappointed as I've been to other local sushi spots with the same quality fish, better portions. I might return to try the omakase, but I wouldn't recommend this place for rolls given the poor value. read more

My friend's and I decided to check out a different sushi location in downtown Walnut Creek. This place is smaller then I am used to so if you have a big party you might have to give them a heads-up. We didn't have reservations and got lucky that a table was leaving just as we got there. One thing to note is that the whole party has to be there to be seated. We shared the poke tower and one other roll that I can't remember the name. I got the Chirashi bowl which was 5 stars! The rice to fish portion was perfect, the rice I believe had some seasoning, I want say either furikake or seaweed shavings. The fish was the perfect cut and it melted like butter when you bite into it. I will definitely go back just for Chirashi bowl. We ended our night with matcha donuts soo good, no picture as we ate it all so fast. read more
We have wanted to try Toyosu for awhile, but with only two (usually full) outside tables it took a rainy day for us to stop by. Food wise, I ordered the Farmers Market and an Avocado roll and both were amazing! The Farmers Market in particular tasted so bright while still being lightly savory. Their hot tea and Choya soda drink (lemon) were also fantastic, though our appetizer, the mixed tempura, wasn't a good fit. The vegetable choices were mostly nightshades, such as eggplant, pepper, and sweet potato, and didn't work for me as I'm nightshade free. The service was prompt and friendly and we enjoyed our meal. All in all, we'll definitely be returning! read more

Dropped by here for a quick lunch and was impressed with the quality of the food as well as the friendliness of the staff. For me, this looked like a hole in the wall, and I was glad I popped in. I had three items ordered since I wanted to be able to try things where I could see the quality of how they cook/prepare things. The tempura I started with was served fresh out of the fryer and had the wonderfully thin and crispy batter that I love and crave from tempura. For my main lunch, I had the Sake honey roll and the Hamachi Shotto. I didn't know what to expect from the shotto but it was amazing and fresh. I couldn't finish all of what I ordered so I ended up driving it back home and it still tasted great. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely return here. read more
Great quality fish and fish-forward rolls! We came here for the first time but will be back again! We got the premium omakase nigiri and every single piece was excellent. The two rolls we got were, like I said, fish forward. It doesn't have all the frills and fillings that most sushi places have, which I liked. The seating is pretty limited, but it wasn't too busy on a Saturday night. The service was great. I highly recommend! read more
The sushi here was incredibly fresh, and the service was excellent! The location is perfect--within walking distance of other great spots in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. Definitely worth the cost, and I'll be back to try more items on the menu! One thing that would be great is if they had a full bar vs only wine / beer. read more
A surprisingly great lunch spot. We came here while in Walnut Creek to be at the KP hospital down the street. The place was pretty busy, and they only had 2 wait staff working, so it made the experience less great than it could have been. The food was fresh and very healthy portions! Honestly I didn't think I'd be as stuffed as I was walking out of here. My wife got the tempura bento, and I got the one with sashimi. Just great fresh sushi and food. The katsu was very crisp and the dipping sauce was super fruity and flavorful. The sushi was very fresh tasing and was an nice addition to the full meal. The place is small and quiet, surrounded by othe small shops. There is a good amount of indoor seating and I believe the have outdoor available as well. I really enjoyed coming here, I just wish we got a little better service. We ran out of water after 15min and I had to waive down a person a few times for her to come over for us to get some more. Otherwise a very nice place. TL;DR: Great lunch option. read more

One of the better sushi spots I've been to recently. They have a good variety of well-made rolls, but what got me thinking about coming back were the more sophisticated items on the menu - this is a spot with uni, ika, wagyu, and caviar if that's what you're looking for in the area (it's been a bit difficult for me ever since the owners of my fav spot moved states a few years back). I thoroughly enjoyed everything we had and will definitely return soon. The only thing I didn't love was the dessert, but I'd still be open to trying another one next time I'm in. really fresh fish and the taste is delicious. the store itself is right in downtown so a good place for sushi. service was also really nice and attentive. the only thing is it is a bit on the higher end but still nonetheless really tasty read more

No, it's a more traditional sushi restaurant. Every order must be placed with the servers.
Do you take reservations?
They do NOT take reservations (checked November 2024).

We absolutely allow dogs at our tables outside. We love to see all our friends! If you schedule reservation, please request an outside table. We hope to see you soon!

Haven't seen this, their prices are reasonable, their lunch hours the portions are still plentiful while being ~$5 or so off of the dinner prices for the entrees. Getting lunch from them is definitely a good deal!
