I'm not sure what has happened to Damo but the last few times haven't been great. The food isn't as fresh as I would prefer. I couldn't finish my Maguro this last time we were in. In this weather the two times we have been by it has been sweltering inside. They wont open the front door to even let a slight breeze in. They need some air circulation inside. The few items that are still good are any eel dish and the teriyaki. Pretty much anything cooked. Also the service is hit or miss. We aren't ever sure if they are mad at us or not. It depends on who is working that day. Unfortunately there are better sushi spots that aren't too far from here that I would rather try. read more

Damo Sushi has been at this location for quite some time now, and have had only a couple of changes to the ownership throughout its many years here at this shopping center. Right across the street from California Grand, and in the same shopping center as Pollo Pollo and Moa, it's one of the oldest spots here. I mainly just come here nowadays when I'm out for the night of drinking with some friends. Sushi quality wise, it's not quite the same as it used to be, but then again, Damo has not been great for well over a decade now, so that's not saying too much. Well it's not great, it's also not bad. The quantity of the rolls are generally not all that generous, and the rolls do not quite fill you up. Luckily, because I'm usually just here now when I'm up for a drink, the booze will help handle the rest of the filling. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though. Pricing wise, they're okay. Not too expensive like some of the many, many sushi spots that are in the area just a couple miles down Contra Costa/Concord Blvd, but also not cheap. Not that anything is cheap nowadays anyways. It's averaged priced. Service, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the staff seems very disinterested, other times they're nice enough to pay attention to you enough to appear that they care. Never had great service here for several years now as the staff turnover is fairly constant over the years, so that could be part of the problem. Decor, is exactly the same as they were when they did their first big remodel all those many years back, but they do have outside seating too for those who are interested, and it's their own seating area not the shared tables at Pho or Moa. Overall, Damo is alright. It's not going to be a place that I would go to first when I think of sushi, but is a place I'd go if I were with my drinking buddies. They do have decent prices on the alcohol at least, and gives good amount if you're into sake, but otherwise, it's not my first, second, third, or umpteenth option that comes to mind first when I'm just craving sushi. read more

Came here for linner. You know our one big meal of the day -late lunch but early dinner. Loved the salmon they used for the sashimi. Wish I would have ordered more of it. The portions were perfect. I guess you can't say that Doordash is totally corrupt. They brought business to this restaurant that is outside of my usual route around Walnut Creek, Concord, and Pleasant Hill. I wasn't going to find them on Yelp that's for sure. They are 18th on the list if you Yelp 'Vegan sushi'. No wonder they never caught my eye. What I do with Doordash is I make sure the price on the app is the same (or very close) to either their website or Yelp's menu photos. Otherwise it's a no from me, dog. They don't inflate their Doordash prices. Since I'm a cheap bastard, that's a +1 in my book. We had ordered delivery from here twice before I even realized where this place was located. When I got a 50% off pickup offer was when I looked them up. They're located in the dinky little strip mall where Big 5 is and several other businesses that suspiciously look like fronts. Yes, I'm looking at you lamp store that keeps all the lamps on in the shop, yet has no customers. Would hate to see that PG&E bill! Since we've only ordered delivery and takeout so far, I can't attest to the dining experience. They have some outdoor dining and looks like indoor is open now as well. Anyways, to the food. They do go beyond that usual avo/cucumber roll here. Although, all of my favorite rolls have avocado of some sort. Not that that's a bad thing. You can't go wrong when a place has a roll called Vegan Choice on the menu. They also don't skimp when it covered to the wasabi and ginger. Don't know how many places that we've placed a large order, only to be served enough for just me. Sure I go buckwild on the spicy green stuff but why you gotta punish me? What could they do to earn five stars? Put more vegan labeling on the menu and offer a greater variety of Vegan rolls, soups, and appetizers. They do currently list a few veggie soups as having "no meat" but you never know what that means unless you ask. I know right, you would think that means no animals in my food but I've been tricked one too many times to believe a place without asking. I have been wanting to eat here having passed it multiple times. We tried a month ago and arrived an hour prior to posted close time, when we arrived they were mopping the floors. We decided not to enter since we didn't want to smell cleaning products while eating if we were welcomed in. My boyfriend and I decided to go on a date night here last week we called ahead to make sure they were open even reserved a table. Their was a good amount of tables filled we were excited. I ordered a two item bento with beef teriyaki and mixed tempura which was a good nothing special. The bento came with a side salad and miso soup. I loved the salad dressing the miso soup was salty and very warm. The beef was tender flavorful and tempura basic. My boyfriend ordered nigiri which was horrible. I'm not a chef but just looking at it you could tell it was not fresh at all. I don't know how they could serve this to anyone. The nigiri was discolored and wasn't fresh it looked warm and old. He tried a few pieces and he even had to spit it out due to flavor tasting unpleasant. I'm not sure how a Japanese Restaurant that serves raw food can overlook the freshness of what they are serving. We will never go back and suggest everyone else not to. Makes me question the quality of the other food they are storing and serving. The staff onsite said they were unable to issue a refund and made me call the manager (I'm familiar with the POS system they use and this is not true). The spider roll meets the bar for price and taste/size. It tasted really good but that deluxe roll legit had 1 lick of advocado, and was just crab in rice. Pretty much blinked and the food was gone. To make it even worse, while I was chewing my food, I felt something weird in my mouth, so I spit out the food on my napkin... AND there was HAIR. I lost my appetite. The godzilla states on menu thats its fried... with jalapeno, cheese, spicy tuna w/unagi sauce. I honestly don't believe I got the right roll. As seen in my picture the Godzilla roll (left side) doesn't appear to be fried and no unagi sauce. The Double S is made with spicy salmon, crab & cucumber. No issues there. I didn't say anything about Godzilla roll to waitress. Why not? Well because it looked and tasted ok for one. For two, I was starvin Marvin!! First time coming here with my friend on a Tuesday afternoon. Not busy, maybe four or five tables were full and the place is pretty large compared to most sushi places I've been to. I ordered the Crazy Scallop Roll and Unagi Nigiri along with miso soup. The miso was great, the unagi nigiri was melt in your mouth good, but the roll was a bit disappointing. It seemed noticeably smaller than any roll I've had and the ingredients were very scarce. The presentation wasn't that impressive either. It didn't taste very fresh to me and it definitely didn't satisfy my sushi craving :/ I asked for a box to bring the rest of the roll home in case I got hungry again. I was going to ask for dessert when our server decided to bring our checks to our table, which disappointed me even more. I was also thinking of bringing a different roll home for my dad, but getting my check brought to me definitely cut it short and I decided that if we're going to be rushed out of there, the place probably doesn't deserve my business. So... Let me state first that even though we enjoyed our food, we almost boiled in this restaurant! I was almost dripping with sweat, because they didn't have the AC on on an almost 90°F day... That's pretty lame, but not the end of the world. Still had great flavor! We also had the Tempura Appetizer, mixed, decent assortment of veggies including a broccoli which is my favorite! My girlfriend loved the shrimp, she said it tasted very fresh and the tempura was very crispy! On to the SUSHI! We got 3 rolls... I ordered the Lion King... I ordered this roll because, I'll be honest... I will NEVER pay $9 for a Philly roll, which is my go to. Anyway, Lion King was good, flavorful and delicious. But, it had like 4 pieces that were drenched in mayo, like plain mayo & it was terrible. I wiped it off and it was fine! My girlfriend ordered 2 rolls, she ordered the Krispy, and then realized that they had Tako (octopus) rolls. She had to try it, cause she actually loves octopus... Krispy was good, a little more fishy than I'm into, but great size and I'm a sucker for deep fried rolls, lol! And, my girlfriend loved the Tako! She said it was fresh, and she is going to continue ordering it when we go to sushi... All in all, this is a great little place! And, we'll be back sometime! read more

My family has been to Damo Sushi several times. We come here mostly for the ramen and sashimi. I love the tonkatsu ramen with chashu. I love sukiyaki but not from here. The beef they use for sukiyaki is very tough to chew. I always forget, order it, and regret it. When they're busy, they forget to refill our hot tea or iced water. It's an ok place for me. read more

This place is great! I've been going here for quite some time now; my boyfriend and I love it! This restaurant remains to be one of our favorites due to not only great sushi, but fast and attentive service. Another good thing about this place is it's size (high vaulted ceiling) and available television that always has a pro sports game on (on occasion a projector that displays on one of the walls as well) Now, on to the sushi!!!
