Chicken teriyaki
Ivy S.

I'm not sure what has happened to Damo but the last few times haven't been great. The food isn't as fresh as I would prefer. I couldn't finish my Maguro this last time we were in. In this weather the two times we have been by it has been sweltering inside. They wont open the front door to even let a slight breeze in. They need some air circulation inside. The few items that are still good are any eel dish and the teriyaki. Pretty much anything cooked. Also the service is hit or miss. We aren't ever sure if they are mad at us or not. It depends on who is working that day. Unfortunately there are better sushi spots that aren't too far from here that I would rather try.

Overcharged

I was overcharged today 8/3 by the young lady. I am a frequent customer and was never charged dinner price for a lunch bento (12:15pm). How does a lunch bento become dinner price??? Pls make that make sense. This makes me not want to return to this establishment due to the dishonest pricing. I asked for a refund, and she said 'no, charges were correct..' I was very disappointed and will no longer recommend.

Toyoko roll and toyoko sashimi both good

Came here for linner. You know our one big meal of the day -late lunch but early dinner. Loved the salmon they used for the sashimi. Wish I would have ordered more of it. The portions were perfect. The price is affordable. My Fiancé got a 3 item bento box and said it was well balanced and cooked.

Damo Sushi has been at this location for quite some time now, and have had only a couple of changes to the ownership throughout its many years here at this shopping center. Right across the street from California Grand, and in the same shopping center as Pollo Pollo and Moa, it's one of the oldest spots here. I mainly just come here nowadays when I'm out for the night of drinking with some friends. Sushi quality wise, it's not quite the same as it used to be, but then again, Damo has not been great for well over a decade now, so that's not saying too much. Well it's not great, it's also not bad. The quantity of the rolls are generally not all that generous, and the rolls do not quite fill you up. Luckily, because I'm usually just here now when I'm up for a drink, the booze will help handle the rest of the filling. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though. Pricing wise, they're okay. Not too expensive like some of the many, many sushi spots that are in the area just a couple miles down Contra Costa/Concord Blvd, but also not cheap. Not that anything is cheap nowadays anyways. It's averaged priced. Service, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the staff seems very disinterested, other times they're nice enough to pay attention to you enough to appear that they care. Never had great service here for several years now as the staff turnover is fairly constant over the years, so that could be part of the problem. Decor, is exactly the same as they were when they did their first big remodel all those many years back, but they do have outside seating too for those who are interested, and it's their own seating area not the shared tables at Pho or Moa. Overall, Damo is alright. It's not going to be a place that I would go to first when I think of sushi, but is a place I'd go if I were with my drinking buddies. They do have decent prices on the alcohol at least, and gives good amount if you're into sake, but otherwise, it's not my first, second, third, or umpteenth option that comes to mind first when I'm just craving sushi.

There's a new owner/management. Sushi rolls aren't as good as it used to be; the quality of the rolls have gone down.

Top left: Rock n Roll (sorry, already ate 2 pieces) 9/10 Spider 4/10 Saba nigiri 2/10 Unagi 9/10
Mandy H.

Ordered doordash. Rock n Roll Spider roll Saba Nigiri Unagi Nigiri Saba nigiri was a weird wet mush texture (I have had saba before and never tasted like that), and the spider was so so... I'd order the rock n roll and Unagi Nigari again next time. Those were very good :)

Couldn't finish this and got In N Out immediately after.

Dill pickles, instant miso, chicken katsu sitting in its own urine of a broth, and hoisin water with grey chicken. This place is nothing more than a cry for help. At least our server was kind and attentive which garners the extra star.

Vegan Choice, Edamame, Inari, Avocado, Mushroom Avocado.

I guess you can't say that Doordash is totally corrupt. They brought business to this restaurant that is outside of my usual route around Walnut Creek, Concord, and Pleasant Hill. I wasn't going to find them on Yelp that's for sure. They are 18th on the list if you Yelp 'Vegan sushi'. No wonder they never caught my eye. What I do with Doordash is I make sure the price on the app is the same (or very close) to either their website or Yelp's menu photos. Otherwise it's a no from me, dog. They don't inflate their Doordash prices. Since I'm a cheap bastard, that's a +1 in my book. We had ordered delivery from here twice before I even realized where this place was located. When I got a 50% off pickup offer was when I looked them up. They're located in the dinky little strip mall where Big 5 is and several other businesses that suspiciously look like fronts. Yes, I'm looking at you lamp store that keeps all the lamps on in the shop, yet has no customers. Would hate to see that PG&E bill! Since we've only ordered delivery and takeout so far, I can't attest to the dining experience. They have some outdoor dining and looks like indoor is open now as well. Anyways, to the food. They do go beyond that usual avo/cucumber roll here. Although, all of my favorite rolls have avocado of some sort. Not that that's a bad thing. You can't go wrong when a place has a roll called Vegan Choice on the menu. They also don't skimp when it covered to the wasabi and ginger. Don't know how many places that we've placed a large order, only to be served enough for just me. Sure I go buckwild on the spicy green stuff but why you gotta punish me? What could they do to earn five stars? Put more vegan labeling on the menu and offer a greater variety of Vegan rolls, soups, and appetizers. They do currently list a few veggie soups as having "no meat" but you never know what that means unless you ask. I know right, you would think that means no animals in my food but I've been tricked one too many times to believe a place without asking. If they step up their V game, I'm all in on this place.

Moved it on napkin to see if I was trippin.... Bruh

We'll be back :D We were seated immediately on Sunday afternoon. The staff are gracious and very attentive. Interior is modern and minimal and kinda looks like it used to be a Chipotle LOL OYSTERS: Kumamotos are my fav :3 Topped with some sort of horseradish, masago, green onion combination~ GOLDEN EGG SAMPLER: SO MUCH QUAIL EGG. I think this would have been better shared with two others (so much... yolk...), but fresh & delicious nonetheless OCEAN BREEZE ROLL: Minimal sauce to highlight the fish flavor...! With just the right amount of rice; not too vinegar-y, either. You can really taste the sweetness in each fish. I'm super impressed~ MATCHA CHEESECAKE: Light in sweetness but dense. Very creamy with distinct matcha flavor. We loved it! For their Mother's Day special, they offered a free piece of jewelry (???) for any receipt total over $100. I chose a black metal ring. Never seen a deal like this before...? Though... The only bummer is the use of AI everywhere in the restaurant, from the art on their Yelp to the sushi-themed playlist ^^;; Ofc I wouldn't ding them a star for it, but it does affect perception of their authenticity a bit. Still a great restaurant-- my hope is that patronizing them more will lead to working with real artists...!

The gratuity already starts at 20% if you don't use "custom amount"! There's also a credit card surcharge. This place only had paper placemats, there aren't even chopstick holders. This isn't some mom and pop noodle shop, is it?? I am a party of (1), why would I pay a 20% gratuity? I had no special requirements, but I asked to refill my water on both occasions.

The staff were all nice, super attentive. The restaurant was extremely clean! The moment I sat down I was greeted by my waitress which I loved! Now let's get to the food! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll for my appetizer and the chicken teriyaki as my main entree, and a lemonade for my beverage. Everything was a 10/10! I got full off my appetizer so I ended up eating a few bites of my entree and taking the rest home. All that food for literally that amazing price! I see why they were packed! We planned ahead and made a reservation since we had a large group, and our table was already ready when we arrived, which I really appreciated. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. You can truly feel the family-oriented vibes--they took the time to get to know us and checked in throughout the dinner without being overbearing. The menu has so many good options that it was hard to choose, so I went with a 3-item bento box. I ordered the salmon teriyaki, mixed sashimi, and mixed tempura. The bento also came with miso soup, salad, and a side of rice. The portions were HUGE--I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day (not complaining at all!). The fish was fresh, the salmon teriyaki was flavorful, and the tempura was perfectly crispy and delicious. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

They treat everyone who walks through that door like family and the service is extremely friendly. They are also very family oriented. They were always chatting with our kiddos and other kiddos at other tables. The amount of food they give you is crazy. The rolls were humongous! We were too hungry and I forgot to snap a photo, but they were HUGE. Our 2 item bento boxes were also XL. There was so much food! It was actually a little overwhelming. 1 piece of sashimi is actually 2 or 3 (they slice it really thick---which I'm actually not a fan of). The tempura was delicious. They were big pieces and I felt like they were prepared and fried well. Not overly greasy and the batter was nice. The fish seemed fresh, but I really don't care for thick slices of sashimi. Overall, everything was good, but the fish threw me off. I feel like you lack finesse when you do thick pieces of fish. The rolls also had so much rice. If you value quantity over quality, definitely recommend. If you value quality over quantity, I'd maybe skip.

We'd always only gone for their lunch menu before, but we were really craving sushi and sashimi last night, so we thought Fuji would be the best place to go since we were starving!! We noticed that the dinner menu wasn't that much different from the lunch. Seems like only a handful of items are added, so we still made sure to try some of those dinner-only items. One was the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab, and it was absolutely delicious! The whole thing was edible, so there was no need to de-shell the crab, and the tempura batter was nice and crispy. The crab also didn't taste fishy at all. I also liked that they served it with a tempura dipping sauce on the side because it helped refresh the dish and cut back on the greasiness a little bit. Another thing I was really super curious to try was the Smoked Salmon. I did order it, but I think the guy working at the sashimi section misheard me and ended up giving me regular salmon instead - boo! I wanted to go back and order more later, but by that point I was already really full, so I decided not to be greedy. Other than that, everything else was pretty much the same as the lunch offerings. In general, my brother and I really like this place. It's definitely our go-to spot when it comes to all you can eat sushi and sashimi. My brother and I love getting a huge plate of sashimi with a variety of fish like Salmon, Yellowtail, Mackerel, and even Unagi too. I also love how quick the service was, and they impose no limitation on how many times we can order or how many items we can get each round. We just feel really comfortable eating here. We'll definitely come back again in the near future!

Honestly this is best ayce sushi I've been too and find myself coming back often! I love sushi and…read morehave been to a number of other ayce sushi places and tbh, none of them compare to Fuji when it comes to both price, quality, and consistency. For the price, it's very affordable as you pay a flat price and can order everything off the menu. There's no extra charge for sashimi either which I found that all other ayce sushi places do and even with the extra charge for sashimi at other places, their sashimi is often small and the quality is low or just poorly prepared. At Fuji, the sashimi is always consistent and they provide great cuts and variety of sashimi like salmon, eel, tuna, mackerel, and more. I love that it's already included as part of the price and there's no hidden or extra fees. The rolls taste great as well! You can easily grab the rolls from the shelf where they put the freshly made rolls or if you don't see the rolls you want, you can ask the sushi chefs to make them. Personally, I find it more worth it to ask the sushi chefs for sashimi, hand rolls, and the aburi (seared) salmon which is my personal favorite here lol. For the appetizers, you need to order with the waiters but luckily they're very quick and attentive! The fried oyster is really good. The space itself is pretty large and you'll either be seated at a table or at the bar but if you're able to choose, definitely go with the bar! The bar includes the rotating conveyor belt which often has salmon nigiri and other small dishes which makes it more convenient to sit there. This review has been long overdue tbh but I've been here enough times and the quality, consistency, variety, and price is what makes me keep coming back!
