I'm not sure what has happened to Damo but the last few times haven't been great. The food isn't as fresh as I would prefer. I couldn't finish my Maguro this last time we were in. In this weather the two times we have been by it has been sweltering inside. They wont open the front door to even let a slight breeze in. They need some air circulation inside. The few items that are still good are any eel dish and the teriyaki. Pretty much anything cooked. Also the service is hit or miss. We aren't ever sure if they are mad at us or not. It depends on who is working that day. Unfortunately there are better sushi spots that aren't too far from here that I would rather try.
Damo Sushi has been at this location for quite some time now, and have had only a couple of changes to the ownership throughout its many years here at this shopping center. Right across the street from California Grand, and in the same shopping center as Pollo Pollo and Moa, it's one of the oldest spots here. I mainly just come here nowadays when I'm out for the night of drinking with some friends. Sushi quality wise, it's not quite the same as it used to be, but then again, Damo has not been great for well over a decade now, so that's not saying too much. Well it's not great, it's also not bad. The quantity of the rolls are generally not all that generous, and the rolls do not quite fill you up. Luckily, because I'm usually just here now when I'm up for a drink, the booze will help handle the rest of the filling. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though. Pricing wise, they're okay. Not too expensive like some of the many, many sushi spots that are in the area just a couple miles down Contra Costa/Concord Blvd, but also not cheap. Not that anything is cheap nowadays anyways. It's averaged priced. Service, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the staff seems very disinterested, other times they're nice enough to pay attention to you enough to appear that they care. Never had great service here for several years now as the staff turnover is fairly constant over the years, so that could be part of the problem. Decor, is exactly the same as they were when they did their first big remodel all those many years back, but they do have outside seating too for those who are interested, and it's their own seating area not the shared tables at Pho or Moa. Overall, Damo is alright. It's not going to be a place that I would go to first when I think of sushi, but is a place I'd go if I were with my drinking buddies. They do have decent prices on the alcohol at least, and gives good amount if you're into sake, but otherwise, it's not my first, second, third, or umpteenth option that comes to mind first when I'm just craving sushi.
Came here for linner. You know our one big meal of the day -late lunch but early dinner. Loved the salmon they used for the sashimi. Wish I would have ordered more of it. The portions were perfect. The price is affordable. My Fiancé got a 3 item bento box and said it was well balanced and cooked.
I was overcharged today 8/3 by the young lady. I am a frequent customer and was never charged dinner price for a lunch bento (12:15pm). How does a lunch bento become dinner price??? Pls make that make sense. This makes me not want to return to this establishment due to the dishonest pricing. I asked for a refund, and she said 'no, charges were correct..' I was very disappointed and will no longer recommend.
Ordered doordash. Rock n Roll Spider roll Saba Nigiri Unagi Nigiri Saba nigiri was a weird wet mush texture (I have had saba before and never tasted like that), and the spider was so so... I'd order the rock n roll and Unagi Nigari again next time. Those were very good :)
Dill pickles, instant miso, chicken katsu sitting in its own urine of a broth, and hoisin water with grey chicken. This place is nothing more than a cry for help. At least our server was kind and attentive which garners the extra star.
I guess you can't say that Doordash is totally corrupt. They brought business to this restaurant that is outside of my usual route around Walnut Creek, Concord, and Pleasant Hill. I wasn't going to find them on Yelp that's for sure. They are 18th on the list if you Yelp 'Vegan sushi'. No wonder they never caught my eye. What I do with Doordash is I make sure the price on the app is the same (or very close) to either their website or Yelp's menu photos. Otherwise it's a no from me, dog. They don't inflate their Doordash prices. Since I'm a cheap bastard, that's a +1 in my book. We had ordered delivery from here twice before I even realized where this place was located. When I got a 50% off pickup offer was when I looked them up. They're located in the dinky little strip mall where Big 5 is and several other businesses that suspiciously look like fronts. Yes, I'm looking at you lamp store that keeps all the lamps on in the shop, yet has no customers. Would hate to see that PG&E bill! Since we've only ordered delivery and takeout so far, I can't attest to the dining experience. They have some outdoor dining and looks like indoor is open now as well. Anyways, to the food. They do go beyond that usual avo/cucumber roll here. Although, all of my favorite rolls have avocado of some sort. Not that that's a bad thing. You can't go wrong when a place has a roll called Vegan Choice on the menu. They also don't skimp when it covered to the wasabi and ginger. Don't know how many places that we've placed a large order, only to be served enough for just me. Sure I go buckwild on the spicy green stuff but why you gotta punish me? What could they do to earn five stars? Put more vegan labeling on the menu and offer a greater variety of Vegan rolls, soups, and appetizers. They do currently list a few veggie soups as having "no meat" but you never know what that means unless you ask. I know right, you would think that means no animals in my food but I've been tricked one too many times to believe a place without asking. If they step up their V game, I'm all in on this place.
When I opened my take out, I saw how small the portion sizes were and had to get more food somewhere else. The contra costa roll is the tiniest roll I've ever had for the price. The spider roll meets the bar for price and taste/size. It tasted really good but that deluxe roll legit had 1 lick of advocado, and was just crab in rice. Pretty much blinked and the food was gone. Glad I tried it but probably wouldn't go back, I'd like to be full after paying $30 after tax for just myself, for a meal. If you don't have a big appetite this might work well for you!
First time eating here. I was on my lunch break and I was craving sushi, so I'd thought I'd give this place a try. I ordered the 49er roll. 1. The rice on the roll was hard! 2. To make it even worse, while I was chewing my food, I felt something weird in my mouth, so I spit out the food on my napkin... AND there was HAIR. I lost my appetite. I know this wasn't my hair because my hair is a different color. I didn't even tell the waiter, I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I just ended up not tipping. This was the worse Sushi experience I have ever had. PSA: Sorry if the photos are disgusting, but I needed to take pictures for proof!! I am literally disgusted, never coming back.

Me and my daughter came here mid week and we instantly loved the high ceilings and how clean the place was. We were immediately greeted and seated. We ordered the Krazy Kat, Contra Costa and Fair Way Rolls. All were so delicious and the fish was fresh (the first thing my daughter noticed) The service was polite and fast. We will definitely be back. read more

One of my favorite Sushi places. This time we shared the Yoshimame (fried edamame with lemon pepper sauce) and an order of Karaage chicken. My friend had the Chicken Teriyaki bowl and super California roll combo and I had a Contra Costa roll and some nigiri. Serviice was quick and friendly. read more

Okay I have been thinking to visit this place so I finally did. Restaurant was huge. There was so much empty table when we came in which saddens me. Food was surprisingly delicious. I never finished my bento but I did! Holy moly it was freshly cooked and good pricing! Decent amount! I totally recommend this place! I shall come visit again! Thank you. read more

Friendly staff and clean restaurant. Good food with great selections for their bento boxes. Reasonable price for their dinner bento with great portions. We will definitely go back when we are in the area. read more

Hadn't been here in years. Still a great experience. We arrived kinda late (8:20pm), closing in half hour. We were hungry after truck shopping. With limited options that late on a weekday, we chose Damo. We were seated right away. Here's where I only give it 3 stars. I ordered Godzilla roll & Double S roll. Here's my issue. The godzilla states on menu thats its fried... with jalapeno, cheese, spicy tuna w/unagi sauce. I honestly don't believe I got the right roll. As seen in my picture the Godzilla roll (left side) doesn't appear to be fried and no unagi sauce. The Double S is made with spicy salmon, crab & cucumber. No issues there. I didn't say anything about Godzilla roll to waitress. Why not? Well because it looked and tasted ok for one. For two, I was starvin Marvin!! For three, they were closing soon and I didn't want to go anywhere else. I dealt with it. I also had ginger tea & miso soup. Mmmmm yummy. Hubby rolls were Damo Special roll & Ace roll. read more
First time coming here with my friend on a Tuesday afternoon. Not busy, maybe four or five tables were full and the place is pretty large compared to most sushi places I've been to. I ordered the Crazy Scallop Roll and Unagi Nigiri along with miso soup. The miso was great, the unagi nigiri was melt in your mouth good, but the roll was a bit disappointing. It seemed noticeably smaller than any roll I've had and the ingredients were very scarce. The presentation wasn't that impressive either. It didn't taste very fresh to me and it definitely didn't satisfy my sushi craving :/ I asked for a box to bring the rest of the roll home in case I got hungry again. I was going to ask for dessert when our server decided to bring our checks to our table, which disappointed me even more. I was also thinking of bringing a different roll home for my dad, but getting my check brought to me definitely cut it short and I decided that if we're going to be rushed out of there, the place probably doesn't deserve my business. Not impressed by the service and food overall was alright. I probably won't be coming back unfortunately. read more

I asked for cucumber and avocado roll and got a tiny little only cucumber mess and asked for vegetable gyoza because I cannot eat meat and they gave me beef gyoza that wasn't even good. Would not recommend. read more

So... Let me state first that even though we enjoyed our food, we almost boiled in this restaurant! I was almost dripping with sweat, because they didn't have the AC on on an almost 90°F day... On to the important stuff though! Service was good, quick and attentive, which is all I care about! And, when she realized I was dying she turned the ac on!!! Unfortunately, that was towards the end of our meal. Still! I was very happy! We started with Miso (yeah, even though it was hot. I wouldn't have if I'd known they weren't using the ac....) which was great, but had like very little tofu... I had 2 small peices of tofu in my bowl, and my girlfriend had 1... That's pretty lame, but not the end of the world. Still had great flavor! We also had the Tempura Appetizer, mixed, decent assortment of veggies including a broccoli which is my favorite! My girlfriend loved the shrimp, she said it tasted very fresh and the tempura was very crispy! On to the SUSHI! We got 3 rolls... I ordered the Lion King... I ordered this roll because, I'll be honest... I will NEVER pay $9 for a Philly roll, which is my go to. Anyway, Lion King was good, flavorful and delicious. But, it had like 4 pieces that were drenched in mayo, like plain mayo & it was terrible. I wiped it off and it was fine! My girlfriend ordered 2 rolls, she ordered the Krispy, and then realized that they had Tako (octopus) rolls. She had to try it, cause she actually loves octopus... Krispy was good, a little more fishy than I'm into, but great size and I'm a sucker for deep fried rolls, lol! And, my girlfriend loved the Tako! She said it was fresh, and she is going to continue ordering it when we go to sushi... All in all, this is a great little place! And, we'll be back sometime! read more

My family has been to Damo Sushi several times. We come here mostly for the ramen and sashimi. I love the tonkatsu ramen with chashu. I love sukiyaki but not from here. The beef they use for sukiyaki is very tough to chew. I always forget, order it, and regret it. When they're busy, they forget to refill our hot tea or iced water. It's an ok place for me. read more

This place is great! I've been going here for quite some time now; my boyfriend and I love it! This restaurant remains to be one of our favorites due to not only great sushi, but fast and attentive service. Another good thing about this place is it's size (high vaulted ceiling) and available television that always has a pro sports game on (on occasion a projector that displays on one of the walls as well) Now, on to the sushi!!! Here is a fun trio we just recently had: The Godzilla Roll is crunchy and spicy- containing a generously sized jalapeño chunk filled with spicy tuna & cream cheese (YOWZA!) DAMO SPECIAL ROLL is mine and lovey's 'Go-To' Roll- filled with crunchy shrimp tempura, spicy tuna & cream cheese / topped with avocado, tuna & white tuna (also known as butterfish)... All under a duo drizzle of sweet unagi sauce & spicy mayo (SWEET SPICY AND CREAMY; YUMMMMM!!) Then to cleanse our palates, we always finish off with the 'O-So-Refreshing' 49er Roll - containing crab & avocado / topped with fresh salmon and a thinly sliced piece of lemon. #HappyBellies read more

We asked this through Uber Eats, it's just THE WORST ramen and sushi we've ever had around. The "ramen" is just water with plastic-like noodles, no meat or veggies, just 3 tiny stripes of carrot. Don't waste your money like we did ! read more
