While the service was great, the food was mediocre. Some of the fish was a bit dry and everything was on the salty side. The kids menu only comes with teriyaki chicken option, no beef. Which is what we wanted for our daughter, but they said we'd need to order off the main menu for that. I'm sorry but our child is not going to eat a $28 meal of beef teriyaki. That was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere was your typical volume of noise. They sat us next to the separating wall and we noticed a layer of dust on the ledge as well as on the decorative wooden partition. Appears it hasn't been cleaned in years. I came in for lunch, was sat right away. Waiter came quickly too. I asked him for his recommendation as they had lunch specials. He recommended the iron chef or the illustrated combo. I went for the iron chef and it did not disappoint. It was a perfect serving for me. I forgot to ask for no mayo. However, the sushi was still delish. I don't like mayonnaise. My granddaughter who lives in concord wanted to come here because she heard it was good. Well, I'm here to tell you. I ordered food and it wasn't good. Everything was bland. The sushi was average the chicken teriyaki lunch with bland, white rice and we had to ask for extra teriyaki sauce. The small piece of chicken wasn't flavored or cooked well barely any sauce on it. The extra sushi roll that we bought with shrimp in. It had the shell on the shrimp I almost choked on it not expecting it. The iced tea was obviously a powdered mix not fresh iced tea. Came and sat at the bar. They were pretty busy for a Wednesday night inside. Ordered a Japanese fashioned which was good and strong. Also ordered a hamachi fin. While it tasted good, same sauce as the other ones, presentation was not as good as the one in Roseville. It looked rushed with the jalapeños thrown on the plate. The hamachi was small and about half the size of the location in Roseville. Went today for BB's 16th, and it was another great experience. We were seated at the sushi bar, which is always my favorite place to sit. We were especially happy to be served by Chef Tyler, the lead chef, who has many years of sushi experience. It's always a treat to watch him work -- the care, precision, and consistency really stand out. We ordered the Judy Two Roll, the DMC Roll, and the Kaizen ribs. Both rolls were made to perfection, and the torch presentation on the DMC roll was fun to watch. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced. The Kaizen ribs were flavorful and a great addition to the table. BB also got to spin the birthday prize wheel and won a cute Mikuni glass, which was a nice touch and made the celebration feel special. Food is always great here, service is consistently amazing, and there's hardly ever a long wait. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Today's visit was honestly amazing. I really wish we got the name of the chef at the sushi bar, but both of them made our rolls perfectly. It was very busy (Christmas shopping), so parking was rough and the restaurant was busy, but they still managed to make our rolls with no mistakes (we have modifications). Located in the veranda shopping center. Come during a weekend and it is hard to find parking. I went on a weeknight and plenty of open spots. I used to come to Mikuni's for lunch all the time. The dinner menu changed a while back and I miss the bento box dinner option which is no longer available. I met a friend for dinner and we both wanted the bento box although she ordered a few small plates that made it her own bento. I opted for the beef curry dinner. The warm curry on a cold winter night hit the spot. Mikuni is always a good choice in the veranda if you decide to ice skate for a bit or do some shopping and then head over to lunch or dinner. They did have a dinner special for two people which might be a good choice on our next visit. read more

It shouldn't have been over$60. Some of the mainstay signature dushes have also been changed for maximum profit, removing the fish and making them add-ons. Went in on a rainy Sunday after church. Was given a 20 min wait estimate so we just roamed the area until they texted us that our table was ready. The actual wait time was only about 10 minutes. We sat in the covered and heated outdoor patio and the ambiance was clean, inviting and spacious. Our server Flo was prompt and pleasant. Food was very good! Started off rocky but was quickly turned around once mentioned-- we sat there for maybe 10 mins without as much as eye contact, let alone water, menus, or any kind of acknowledgment once seated. It was my first time trying Mikuni. It definitely will not be my last!! The menu selection here is ginormous. So are their rolls. One sushi roll was enough for me to get full. I don't remember exactly what I ordered, but it had raw scallops and spicy mayo on it. It was delicious. The cocktails are also good! I ordered a lychee drop. They have the cutest kids menu. My toddler had the tofu nuggets with rice and edamame. The tofu shaped nuggets had carrots and peas in them. It was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance is nice as it's located inside the Veranda. The restaurant is spacious, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was great. Even though we came a busy Sunday, our food came out in a decent time. The staff here is on top of their game. We had just finished watching a movie and decided to walk over to Mikuni to eat a late lunch.Their lunch prices stopped at 4pm. Mikuni has indoor seating and outdoor seating and we sat outside in their patio since the weather was perfect. Their patio area was very nice and we liked how the tables were spaced so you felt you could maintain your privacy as you ate your meal. We choose the calamari as an appetizer. It had a nice flavor and was not overly breaded. The calamari tentacles were surprisingly small, but it was a great appetizer to start the meal with, however for the price, they don't give you a lot of calamari. . There are a lot of different foods items to choose from on the menu and the Bento box stood out to one individual because of the assortment of food items. She choose the chicken and California roll. The interesting thing was Miso soup was not offered as part of the meal, but the salad was one of the items included in the box. The Bento box was a great way to try different dishes and the amount of food was ample. The person who ordered this meal enjoyed the flavor of the chicken and everything in her Bento box. My experience at other sushi places was miso soup was a nice addition to the meal, but missing at this restaurant . Two of the individuals choose the Unagi Donburi bowl. We were given plenty of unagi, which tasted good, not great. It needed to be grilled a bit longer. The lunch price for this was $29 and if you wait for dinner, it was much more. We wouldn't order it again, but if we did, we would ask for the unagi to be grilled a bit longer to give the edges a bit of a crunch. That is part of the enjoyment of eating unagi. We were told their rolls were great , but we will stick to our other sushi place in Pleasant Hill. Our regular sushi place has reasonable prices and consistently good food. The one great aspect of the meal was the service. On this beautiful Saturday afternoon,7/26/25, our server was Mauricio. When our daughter told him that one person in the group was allergic to sesame oil, he made sure there was no sesame oil or seeds on the Unagi Bowl and added a wooden marker in the rice with the words ALLERGY . If you see the picture, one Unagi Bowl had sesame seeds and the other didn't. He also had a wooden marker on the calamari appetizer with the words ALLERGY so no sesame seeds or sesame oil would be added to that dish. We really appreciated Mauricio's diligence and attention to making sure the food served would not cause problems. Great server and kudos to him! Mikuni is a really great sushi spot. Sushi is my favorite food and this place has incredible rolls and high quality fish. The servers are really kind and attentive. The ambiance is nice, very on brand decor with fish and nautical art pieces. We got the special which is $75 for 2 people. It was nice because we got to try some new stuff. The salmon shichimi was super fresh, the jalapeños were actually spicy which was nice. The Ebi Piff was warm, crunchy and cozy. Flavors were really good and the sauce was sweet which complimented its umami flavor. We got two rolls, both salmon heavy and both delicious. The spicy salmon roll had tempura dusted on top and the Fresh Roll was refreshing with cucumber and a ponzu dipping sauce. Having the ponzu dipping sauce was different and interesting in a good way. For dessert we got the Sweet Treat which is tempura fried ice cream. It was light, not too sweet and tasted a pit like a funnel cake. We always have nice meals here. The whole center is beautifully decked out for the holidays, complete with a charming man-made ice rink just steps away. It adds such a fun, festive vibe to the evening. We sat at the bar and had fantastic service from Chloe and Kiara, who were both friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to chat with. They always make great recommendations and elevate the whole dining experience. To start, we ordered my all-time favorite appetizer: the BBQ White Tuna. It's flavorful, tender, and usually perfectly seared. This time it wasn't quite as seared as usual, but still delicious enough that I'd order it again without hesitation. The Lychee Martini was another standout -- the garnish was the largest, juiciest lychee I've ever seen. And the signature edible umami button flower served alongside it made the drink an unforgettable experience. That burst of umami on your tongue followed by the sweet floral lychee? Incredible. For sushi, the Albacore Pepperfin is a MUST. The citrus-soy dressing with the sliced jalapeños gives it the perfect balance of bright, savory, and spicy. For nigiri lovers, the Hamachi Aburi 1 and Hamachi Aburi 2 are absolutely to die for -- buttery, flavorful, and perfectly torched. The Sake Aburi 1 and 2 are also amazing and melt in your mouth. We finished with dessert: vanilla mochi (a classic and always delicious) and their green tea tiramisu, which was a revelation. Lightly sweet with hints of matcha, it's the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. Great Food, But the Vibe Fell Flat One thing I'll always be proud of is giving honest feedback in my reviews, and while Mikuni had fresh sushi, the energy just didn't match the quality of the meal. My 22-year-old daughter and I decided to try Mikuni for the first time. I absolutely love Japanese cuisine, so we were excited to finally try this place out on a busy Sunday afternoon before heading to the Sephora next door. We wanted a quick bite and chose to sit at the bar. The hostesses seemed overwhelmed, so we figured sitting at the bar would help ease the flow. We were greeted warmly at first by a friendly bartender who handed us drink and food menus and said to let him know when we were ready. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but fair for the location. Moments later, a female bartender came by like "Top Flight Security" and immediately asked my daughter for her ID. No greeting, no smile, just straight to the question. The shift in tone was instant and uncomfortable. I ordered a Sake while my daughter looked over the drink menu, only to realize she'd forgotten her ID but had a photo of it. Understandably, the bartender told us she couldn't serve her alcohol, which we completely respected. But then she added, "I could lose my job by serving you, and honestly, you shouldn't even be sitting at the bar." Yikes. What a thing to say while continuing to take our order. What caught us off guard wasn't the policy, it was the energy that followed. Her tone and body language were cold, curt, and uneasy. We felt watched rather than welcomed, and it cast a shadow over what could've been a really pleasant first visit. Meanwhile, a group next to us was watching TikToks at full volume which went completely unchecked while the bartender seemed laser-focused on making sure my daughter didn't sip my drink (which she didn't). It just wasn't that serious. That said, the food was great. The hamachi in the sashimi entrée was fresh, and the unagi hand rolls were spot-on. The ambiance was lively and modern, and I can easily see why the restaurant is so popular. With just a little more warmth behind the bar and maybe a quick water refill and a smile, this could've been a five-star experience. I'll gladly give Mikuni another try, and next time, we'll make sure my youthful daughter has her ID in hand. I think I even wrote on the merchant copy: "Do better. Be better." I piled it up on my side until someone else came to collect it. She did come to check up on us from time to time. Food was decision but sushi is on the pricier side. I've been to Mikuni in Davis but not in Concord till now. It was pretty crowded so I was expecting to wait given the option of being seated inside or outside. I opted for inside because it wasn't too loud but was seating rather quickly. The server is very pleasant and when asked if certain items were seasonal she was very thorough in helping me as to making a decision on what would a good choice oh and that is the same with my questions on their wines. Overall the food is good and service was great. I went with a friend on a Saturday night around 5:30PM and had a 30 minute wait. The location of Mikuni is perfect because it's in the Veranda which has plenty of stores you can window shop in while waiting. I ordered the 49er Jack roll and thought it was very good. This was my first time getting a roll with tuna and scallop because I'm not the biggest raw seafood fan but I was impressed! The service however was sub-par. We waited about half an hour for our food, and once we were done, it was slow to get our check. Overall, good food but service could be better. read more

We put our name down for a party of 12, and it took about an hour to get seated (which was to be expected). Paige was our server and she was awesome! Miso Soup (4/5) - Can't go wrong with an order of soup to start. Really nice since it was chilly outside! Garlicky Edamame (5/5) - I am a sucker for edamame, especially when it's seasoned. This was garlicky, salty, tangy from the lemon juice, and fresh from the cilantro. Yum!! Probably my favorite thing I ate. And they give you a decent amount for sharing around the table. Sakakawe Handroll (5/5) - I love a good salmon skin handroll, and this one was no exception. The skin was crispy, nice freshness form the cucumber, and it was seasoned well. Even hubby liked it! Japanese Mafia Roll (5/5) - Omg yes!! We loved this roll! It had everything we love in it. Scallop, shrimp, crab, salmon & cream cheese, all torched to perfection. Rich, creamy, and filling! Philadelphia Roll (3.5/5) - This was hubby's choice. I'm normally not a fan of this roll, but that's just my preference. Still decent though. After everyone finished their meals, we had Paige bring out a cake that she stored in the fridge for us when we got there.
