The Grilled Skewers here are great. We had a variety, from Chicken Hearts, Lamb, Fish Balls, Tripe and the table favorite Chicken Skin. Perfect pairing for a beer and soju. Yang Zhou Fried Rice was also very good. Service was quick. You order thru an app which makes things so easy if you need another round of skewers like we did. I want to love this place but there's a few things hurting the restaurant. 1) the egg fried rice isn't on the menu and sometimes they say yes, other times they say no. When it is served, it's priced way too high. It should be simple and affordable: rice, egg, soy sauce, chicken powder/flavoring (din tai fung style), & green onions. That' shouldn't be $15+! 2.) it's always super cold inside, making the experience miserable. 3.) would be great if they spent money on a remodel -- but most restaurants in Concord/Pleasant Hill are run down with no desire for an enjoyable space. No, the landlord special of grey laminate vinyl plank is not the answer. I don't want the same floor in my sh***y $3k apartment as my restaurants too. 4.) Skewers don't always come out hot. Inconsistent. 5.) It's always a huge struggle to get chili crisp oil. No, I don't want Mexican hot sauce. Please have the owner & staff visit skewer spots in Singapore/Malaysia/HK. I've been coming to this spot for a while on and off now, and it's always been good, but ever since the new ownership took over, it's even better! The skewers are cooked perfectly, super flavorful, and the quality. You can really taste the difference. I've brought my friends here recently, and they've all loved it too. Finally tried this place. We went to the Oyama BBQ in Newark before, and the menu here is different. Duck neck - 3.5/5 This is on a more spicy side. Don't recommend ordering this if you can't eat spicy. Skewers (beef, lamb and chicken wings) - 5/5 Very nice skewers. Well seasoned and very tender. Cucumber salad - 3.5/5 I didn't expect this is a spicy dish. It is seasoned in chili oil, so it is a little oily. Not a big fan. marinated shredded potatoes - 4.5/5 The potatoes salad is crispy and refreshing. It goes well with skewers. We also tried their spicy fried chicken cubes, it was the bomb, all the ingredients were amazing, melting in your mouth. I absolutely love Chinese skewers- it's always a go-to if I want some late night grub. I was more than thrilled to see there's a skewer place closer to me and I don't have to drive out to the city or to SJ! You order from your phone via a QR code on the table. We ordered a bunch of skewers- from beef, lamb, fish balls with roe, tripe, etc. I can't remember all of them but they were pretty tasty. Keep in mind that all the skewers have the same seasoning- some sort of xinjiang spice mixture. The skewers were tender and not over cooked. I ordered some sort of mala soup that had enoki mushrooms- I forgot the name of it. I would skip out on it since it's literally just enoki mushrooms and malatang soup. It's nothing special. I had the worst dining experience here last Friday. We were a party of two and initially received our food in a reasonable amount of time, as there were only 2-3 other tables occupied. However, things went downhill when we placed an additional order around the same time a larger group with kids arrived and ordered a lot of food. Although both our orders were submitted around the same time, their table kept receiving food while we got nothing. When we asked the waitress about our order, she was extremely rude and claimed that our food takes longer to prepare (we only ordered 4 extra items, seriously?). Eventually, we gave up, asked for the check (that was fast for them to do), and left. There were still parts of our order missing at the time we left. I don't understand why we were treated this way. Honestly, it felt like discrimination. The only difference I could see was that we were students, and the other group appeared to be more "adult" and could potentially tip more, I guess. read more

I've been here twice now and both times we were happy with the food. I came here to eat skewers, the 2nd time around it seems they reduced the skewer options but their entrees now have more options. Bummer I came with a 3 yrs old so i couldn't order spicy entrees but they looked really good. The skewers were good. We Especially like the beef and lamb. The chicken skin, pig skin and pork belly were too dry, wouldn't recommend these. The jajagmien was very oily, but the portion was generous and there were lots of chicken meat in it. Yang chow fried rice was good and fragrance but could use more toppings/meat in it. Haven't been to the store in a while, but ordered plenty via DoorDash since my last review. My updated review: Oyama BBQ is still botdotcom. In fact, I would say better than when they first opened. This place has since perfected its cook time and seasonings for each type of skewer. The beef tendon was tender and melt-in-your-mouth with a subtle chewiness. The garlic cloves were like soft pillows (yes, I love garlic and can eat them raw). The eggplant is no longer bland per 3 years ago and is now beautifully charred with a minced garlic mixture. You cannot go wrong with ordering beef, lamb, scallops and oysters. There are a few new items on the menu and the restaurant has launched a steam pot 锡纸 series. I feel like this is probably the first for a Chinese restaurant out in our area, so I was super duper excited. We got the duck blood and vermicelli steam pot and clam and vermicelli steam pot. First things first, the broth used to cook the two pots are the same so my recommendation is to get the clam and vermicelli. The vermicelli was cooked al dente and the clam meat was supple and flavorful. The spicy, garlicky and kind of mala chili oil broth elevated the taste. Nothing bad about the duck blood and vermicelli pot, we were just expecting a non-spicy Nanjing version with tofu puffs (IYKYK). I also think cubing the duck blood would work better for texture versus a flat slice. Service is better than before. The owner used to be there all the time and he had somewhat of an RBF, so I could see how that may irk people. Order via QR code. Last call for the kitchen is 11:20pm. read more

If you hear alot of dings, you better hurry and get yours in soon. The wait is worth it though. Lamb skewers are the absolute legend here. Perfectly grilled and tender, we order about 6 for the 2 of us each time. They are seasoned well and are so tasty. No other meat compares even though the chicken is moist and the chicken skin is crispy. We always go back to the lamb. Smashed cucumber salad is soooo good here. Oyama is my family's new guilty pleasure! Some of the items here are really a 5/5! By now, we have come here several times and I can report on several menu items. I've been to other locations/similar restaurants and this place has some good items that are a must try! There is plenty of parking around and even though they are often busy, we usually get seated right away. Now for the food: -Beef Skewer, Chicken Skewers, Lamb Skewers 5/5: I've had the beef, chicken and lamb. I'm not a huge fan of the lamb one. It is a bit salty for me but my husband loves it. The beef is my favorite and chicken is good too. -Soy Sauce Fried Rice 4/5: it is pretty good and we ordered this a couple of times until we tried the other fried rice. -Egg Fried Rice 5/5: this is delicious and so far our favorite fried rice. They did take a while to bring it out which is the one thing I don't like because I usually want to eat it with the skewers. -Steam Bun 5/5: so delicious!!!! It is a tab bit sweet but I wouldn't call it a dessert either. It balances the flavors well. -Cucumber Salad 5/5: very fresh and delicious! It's a good side dish for all the meat items. -Chicken Wings 4/5: very good and fresh. My daughter loved them! It comes with two. -Quail Eggs 5/5: I love them. They are season quail eggs, a bit salty but a good complement to the food. -Vinegar Spinach 3/5: this was not the dish for us. We tried it but I'm not sure I'll order it again. It has a lot of vinegar. The flavor was not it for us. -Egg Plant 1/5: this was not good at all. It is a steamed eggplant with a lot of garlic on top of it. I wouldn't order it again. -Chives 4/5: they are a bit salty but we like them. I wouldn't get them every time I come here but once in a while. -Vegetables skewer 5/5: they look like the chives but taste better and less salty. Instead order the vegetables! -Spicy Oysters 4/5: my husband likes them but it is a $20 dish and the oysters are tiny. This is more of a once in a while dish. Over all we love this restaurant! It's been a while since we've been to Oyama but they are open for dine in, so we decided to go for a treat. They are known for their skewers but they have a lot of other options as well. For skewers we got chicken, beef, chicken wings, lamb, bread, potatoes, bacon wrapped enoki, and yellow croaker. Most everything including the potatoes are a tad spicy, but in a good way. The chicken wings were not as spicy (good for me!) but smokey and flavorful. The bacon wrapped enoki had a generous amount of mushrooms. We even got the bread which was a brioche slice, sweet and lightly buttered. All the meats were tender and deliciious! The eggplant was also loaded with garlic! The glass noodles and eggplant absorbed all that yumminess so don't order if you are a vampire. The scallops were rich and also came with glass noodles. The scalllion pancakes, egg fried rice, and soy sauce fried rice were greasy but in an authentic Chinese way. Needless to say we ate every bite of everything. This is a great way to sample a lot of different things. But as others mentioned, it's not cheap. But definiteky worth it for that special treat. read more

Love Chinese style BBQ skewers! This place is legit. This type of food is usually served by Street vendors back in China or Taiwan and it is quick and inexpensive. Their spices make the kebab so delicious and it is frequented by Chinese diners so you know it is pretty authentic. I am so glad I have oyama in our neighborhood. We ordered three fresh vegetables, dried bean curd with hot pepper and Chantte spicy fish. The vegetable dish has a very good flavor. We thought the bean curd dish was vegetarian, but it had meat, so it would be nice if the dishes had descriptions. The bean curd dish might be the saltiest dish I've ever had at a restaurant. The fish dish was also pretty salty and had the most Thai peppers I've ever seen in a dish. They were half the dish. This gem blew me away. I went with a group of 10 on a Saturday night and the kind severs were able to sit us together without a reservation. The menu had a variety of meat, fish, veggies and noodle options for everyone. The chicken skin, fish, and lamb skewers were my fav. The chili seasoning on everything was well balanced, packed with flavor but not too much heat. The kimchi and egg fried rice were great to have along side of the skewers.
