Another great meal! The bowling alley was rented out for a private party, but the restaurant was still available. There were three of us so we had the chicken bbq, the dolsot bibimbap, and the seafood pancake. The dolsot bibimbap was great, especially after we left it alone when it arrived sizzling on our table. This place has great banchan. Special note for the fishcake, sprouts, and the tofu. The seafood pancake had a ton of seafood and was nice and crispy - one of the best I have had. The food was really good, very authentic and decently priced! The spot is really low key and in/next to the bowling alley which i like. Most Korean spots are crowed and loud to the point where you can't have a convo with your dinner crew this wasn't that place. If you're coming alone though the server there was really chill and wouldn't mind keeping you company. Lol probably one of the best servers we ever had tbh. Be careful if you have any characters on your debit card though he came for my BB8...smh...the audacity. BB8 is cute sir! I was skeptical because I judged a book by its cover but was blown away by this place. It's so yummy and filling. While the ambiance isn't anything to leave you speechless it does add character to KeunJib. I've been to some very nice looking places that have served some pretty terrible food so trust me on this that they may be attached to a bowling alley but do not sleep on this place. I ordered the bibimbap with beef and it was over flowing with fresh veggies, a fried egg and beef. They also use the purple rice which most Korean places around here just use regular white rice which I find a let down. I also had the tofu soup and it was delicious and perfect for a cold rainy day. Don't let the fact that this place is in a bowling alley keep you from a delicious experience. I admit I was a bit skeptical but I was really impressed with everything we had. All the bonchon included kimchi, bean sprouts, daikon, broccoli, zucchini, fish cake and tofu. I think the tofu was my favorite but all were tasty. We ordered two entree's and an appetizer. The spicy chicken wings were very crispy and flavorful with a nice bit of heat. My wife chose the beef soft tofu soup. It came out still bubbling hot and was amazing. My wife orders this soup almost every time she has Korean food and thought it was one of the best she's had. I chose the squid and pork belly stir fry. Tender slices of squid and pork with carrots, zucchini and onions in an addicting Korean chili sauce. (I wanted to lick the plate.) The entrees were served with forbidden rice which was a nice touch. Our overall experience was excellent. Great service everything came out quickly and hot. The staff were polite and attentive. We will definitely be coming back and looking forward to trying some other menu items. read more

In my opinion it is the best Korean food in Contra Costa County. Keunjib is an unassuming Korean restaurant attached to Paddock Bowl, a local bowling alley. The shop serves up common american fare such as burgers, fries, and the like, while also serving great korean dishes to both their sit down and bowling customers. My personal favorites here are the Chicken Teriyaki plate and the Rice Cake soup, but I honestly have tried most of their menu at this point and you can't go wrong! I thought it was kinda cool that this little restaurant was connected to a bowling alley. It's a hole in the wall I'd say. We ordered kalbi short ribs, shrimp fried rice and Philly cheesesteak sandwich and French fries. The menu has Korean food and options of bowling alley food i.e. French fires, burgers, pizza etc. I'd say it's pretty awesome to have this as bowling alley food. Food: it was ok nothing to really talk about. I don't feel like there was a wow factor. the amount of food was good enough for one person. (I guess I expected more). KeunJib checks every box! I love Korean food, my husband can take it or leave it. I can great a great Korean meal, with fantastic banchan and my husband can get a great cheeseburger with fries....think I'm kidding? Go for yourself. It's a mother son duo serving up some great kalbi and soft tofu soup! We've been here at least 5 times and I've never had a bad meal. But, my latest food experience with them was so bad that I don't think I will be buying food here any longer. We ordered takeout last week: chicken, beef bulgogi, Japchae, and tofu soup. The Japchae noodles were way over cooked and so they all clumped together. Both the beef and chicken were so full of black pepper, it was as if the chef accidentally dumped too much black pepper on? The flavors don't even taste Korean anymore with all that pepper. It reminded me of bad "Chinese" food in an airport takeout place. The gentleman who runs this place is very rude. After taking our order, the man was on his phone the whole time laughing at videos. We both ordered dolsot bibimbop bowls. Food wasn't special, and only side dishes were kimchi and yellow radish. Kimchi was extra sour and the radish was saltier than what I've tried in the past. After we ate and requested for the check, he noticed we brought a seaweed snack to eat with our bibimbop. He scolded me and my pregnant wife saying no outside food. We didn't know so we apologized. Since the service and food wasn't exactly spectacular we decided not to tip. When he saw this he followed us out and said to never come back. We weren't planning to but he definitely drove it into the grave with that response. I went yesterday for my first time ever. Cool spot inside of a bowling alley. Nice menu, nice staff, a bunch of characters who visit here. I got 2 spam masubis! They're were huge and super good with seasoned brown rice. Very yummy. I want to go back again immediately! I got the cod fish and chips. Came here with the fam. Its a nice small restaurant, family owned. It's located within paddock bowl but it does have its own entrance in the contra costa blvd side. Bowlers and anyone can also order burgers and fries. We came for the Korean food and we were so happy that we did. The service was amazing, the man that helped us was quick, the food was served quickly and the small appetizers that were served were always refilled when low. We ordered fried shrimp, and the spicy pork and they were both so good we ordered a second one. We loved the small appetizers that came with it. Our favorites were the kale (so good!!), the tofu cubes with a red sauce, the cucumbers, and the pickled garlic The waiter also offered my little one kid chopsticks, he loved that and used it to eat his meal. This is an interesting Korean restaurant because it's located in a Bowling alley, so half of the people here are eating Korean food and the other half are ordering burgers and fries to be delivered to their alley. We came in on a Friday night and it was a lot more packed than I expected. We ordered: - BULGOGI - This was tasty and marinated well, but be warned, the pictures (mine included) make it seem like a larger portion than it is. If you're hungry, you might not be satisfied just eating that! - YUK GAE JANG - A delicious beef and vegetable stew. Loved the savoriness of the broth, and they included a lot of gosari (fernbrake). The banchan were all pretty solid. Their fish cake was particularly tasty. +1 star because they checked in on us to see if we wanted to refill any side dishes. Overall, this place is a solid Korean restaurant in the area. Nothing mind-blowing, but good Korean comfort food. I felt a little like royalty. We were seated immediately and handed menus. He brought us both glasses of water right away. We selected the kimchee fried rice, JP Orig bbq rib, and spicy pork BBQ. Everything served in the bachan spread was delicious. It's a vast spread of sweet, spicy, fresh, and pickled goodies. Our food came out lightning fast. They will ask you how you want your egg prepared for the fried rice. If you know what you are doing, you will go with the traditional Sunnyside and let the yolk silken into the rice. I really like spice and the kimchee served in the bachan held more concentrated kick, so I mixed that into my rice. The kale salad served with the ribs was fresh and wonderful. The server saw me struggling with the chopsticks and ribs, so he brought over a sharp knife and fork. Don't get me wrong, I could have gone in caveman style but didn't want to get that messy. The meat was very tasty, cooked thoroughly retaining a bite. The sauce was soooo good. The spicy BBQ pork was our favorite, served sizzling on a hot plate with onions and peppers. Again, the BBQ sauce has such a depth of sweet and savory notes.The seasoning mixture of spices they use really sing. It comes with a closed container of rice, to retain the heat. Korean restaurant...inside a bowling alley? Yes, I'm not kidding! KeunJib operates inside of Paddock Bowl, a 65-year-old bowling alley across the street from the California Grand Casino near the Pleasant Hill/Pacheco border. This place totally flew under my radar until I came across a review here some months ago. I finally got a chance to try them out earlier tonight with my friend Sarah. We arrived at 6:30pm and parked in the large on-site parking lot. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young Korean man in his 20s. Since there were no other diners, we had our choice of seating and we picked a table in the back. A quick glance revealed a clean and bright interior. A large wall menu, a couple Golden Gate Bridge pictures, and a TV pretty much made up all the decorations. Dishes written in English and Korean could also be seen on the walls. The same young man soon brought us water and menus. Aside from traditional Korean dishes, this place also offers American fare such as sandwiches and hamburgers. They also have exotic Korean stuff such as jokbal (pig trotter), soondae (blood sausage) and pig offal. After some deliberation, we decided to stick with a few mainstream Korean dishes and got the seafood pancake ($9.99), spicy BBQ pork ($12.99), and spicy seafood tofu stew ($12.99). The seafood pancake arrived first. It was cut into eight pieces and served with individual dipping sauces. The pancake had a nice crust on the outside and was soft and chewy on the inside. Pretty big pieces of frozen seafood were used and they tasted fine. They used quite a bit of scallions and red pepper strips, which gave the pancake some nice flavor and texture. Prior to the arrival of the main dishes, an array of eight banchans were brought to us. While most of them were pretty ordinary, there was one that was exceptional. It was made with ferns from Mt. Shasta that were marinated in sesame oil. The flavor was good and texture wise it reminded me of really good broccolini. My spicy seafood tofu stew was surprisingly good. It came bubbling hot. Prior to service, an egg was cracked into the stew tableside. The stew tasted like it was made with some kind of broth instead of water. While a good amount of zucchini, onion, and tofu were used for the dish, the seafood was a bit lacking, which was the only flaw. I asked Sarah about her spicy BBQ pork. She told me it was okay. The staff was very friendly and chatty. I found out this restaurant is owned by Paddock Bowl and the chef used to work at Ohgane in Oakland and Mixed Grain in Walnut Creek. With T/T, the check came out to $48, which was not bad at all. I'm glad I found this little hidden gem. I thought the food was good and the service was friendly. Of course you can't compare them to the best Korean restaurants in the South Bay or L.A. But for Central Contra Costa County, this is not a bad Korean option. Hence, I am giving them four stars. An avid bowler, who calls Paddock Bowl my home...for bowling, I've always come across KeunJib, even though I had never actually eaten there myself. As it's attached to Paddock Bowl, and typically, bowling alley food have generally been, well, bowling alley food, it was never something that appealed to me. The inside was never much to look at, with limited seating, and the backdoor leading directly into the bowling alley, it's exactly a place you'd come just for the atmosphere. However, the expression, looks can be deceiving comes to mind, and KeunJib certainly proves this to be true. Located across the street from a small shopping strip (where Los Panchos is located) next to California Grand Casino, it sits at the end of Paddock Bowl. The place itself has a small sign on the outside, but to be honest, it'd probably be easier to just look for Paddock Bowl to get to KeunJib, as you won't have as hard of a time seeing that huge sign. Parking is fairly ample, as it is a bowling alley, and also where the old California Grand building is located, so there should be spots regularly, except during nights when there are multiple bowling leagues going on at the same time, then it may be difficult to find a spot since even league bowlers would generally have a hard time getting a spot, or at least, one that is closer. We talked a bit about the decor. It's a bit dingy, and small. As it's clearly meant to just be a part of the bowling alley, and not a separate entity, there's about a handful of tables available, but not really made for large parties, but okay for anywhere from a party of 1-4 people. May not be great for people who are a bit claustrophobic, but should be fine for everybody else. The service here is great. The owner is very friendly, and chatty (in a good way), and always attentive when there are customers abound, even if it's those from the bowling alley. If you're here to bowl, he'll also bring the food directly to your lane for you. Good guy to talk about sports with as well, so if you're looking for a topic of conversation, there's a starter for you if you need one. There's two separate menus, the regular menu which is the typical bowling alley type food (burgers, sandwiches, fries, and so on), and then the Korean menu. While the non-Korean menu is fine for those who happen to be at the bowling alley for leagues or tournaments, but for those who are coming here for a sit down food experience, you would definitely want to go with the Korean menu. The price for both menus are reasonable. The Korean menu is about on par with all the other Korean restaurants in the area, with one caveat. There is no lunch special menu here, so it could get slightly more costly if you are just here for lunch compared to other places which do offer lunch specials. Food time! What is the signature marking of any Korean restaurant? The Banchan, and the Galbi. I am happy to report that both of these things were delicious and KeunJib. I'm actually surprised the Banchan they offered here were actually varied, but also delicious, and of course, they offer free refills which is a plus. I was a bit disappointed there was no fish cake, but the beansprout was more than enough to make up for that. I do see other people with pictures of the fish cake, so maybe I need to ask for it next time. I'm sure it's probably delicious as all the other Banchan dishes though, so I look forward to that. Let's get down to the Galbi. While the sauce they used was tasty for sure, and the portions were okay for Galbi, one thing that is important to note is how you like your Galbi. For me, I'm okay with both meatier Galbi, or fattier Galbi, so in my case I enjoyed it quite a bit since all the flavoring of it was well done. If you are someone who does not like your Galbi to be so fatty, or in general have difficulty with chewier meats, this may not be your best bet. I can definitely see people who aren't interested in chewing the fat, so to speak. Again, the flavoring was well done, and something I quite enjoyed, but may not be for everyone. Can't judge a book by its cover, looks can be deceiving, or whatever other idiom you'd like to use, this is a pretty good way to explain KeunJib. While it's not going to be a Korean restaurant that will blow you out of the water, considering where it's located, compared to the quality of the food they serve, it's certainly got a night and day thing going for them. Combine that with the friendly service, and fairly priced menu, it's not a bad place to find yourself if you want some Korean food. Just be aware that this is meant to be very casual dining experience, and to temper your expectations when it comes to the dining atmosphere. Will definitely try out some of their other items on the menu in the future, especially since I'll be there for league nights. read more

Tucked away across the Grand Casino, and attached to the Paddock Bowl, is KeunJib Korean Restaurant. Their Korean selection is on par, with prices right on the verge of below average to average. We ordered the Dae Ji Bulgogi (spicy pork), Kim Chi fried rice, and the Chicken wings. All really exceeded my expectations. They do throw in some peppers with the Bulgogi which is something I don't prefer usually, but the flavors were still really great. The Kim Chi fried rice, with a runny fried egg on top, was delicious. Flavors were well balanced, though I may order it without the protein next time, since we had the bulgogi, but as a dish by itself it was perfect. And oh those wings. Korean's do wings right. I haven't had a bad Korean wing, and KeunJib keeps that streak going. Crispy, yet saucy... perfectly breaded... flavorful...Amazing!! I Highly recommend the chicken wings (may be extra time to cook when its busy, luckily for us it wasn't) They also have your standard bowling alley fair, which I'm sure is great, because you really can't mess up a burger, or sandwich, or fries at a bowling alley... but that's not why you come to this place. HELL, if i was drunk and bowling, some Kim Chi Jjigae would really hit the spot! Highly recommend this place, its a small joint, and while people say they had bad service, we didn't experience that. I ate here while bowling with some friends next door. Yes, it's weird to have a KBBQ cafe next to a bowling alley. Plus it also serves burgers, fries, and sandwiches for those who want something more American. If you want to eat while you bowl, you can get it to go and they'll deliver it to your lane. Got the bulgogi plate #39 which is bulgogi beef with rice and a side of kale salad. The difference between this and the bulgogi bowl is that the bowl has stir-fried veggies instead of the kale salad. The food was surprisingly good. The rice even had a sprinkling of furikake seasoning on top for fun. Kale salad was enjoyed by both me and my friend, who didn't know what to expect of Korian food.
