It was extremely flavorful. I was surprised how much brisket they stuffed in the sandwich. It was very generous. I ordered the 8-piece chicken wings with a side of loaded potato. I asked the toppings be served separately. When the chicken wings arrived, it looked dry. In fact, they were dry, not juicy. When you add on the BBQ sauce, it was better. This is only a review for the food, the service was great and the ambiance was chill. I have to say this is the most disappointed I've been while eating BBQ, I had high hopes for this place. Meats: Brisket and tri-tip were both really dry, the hot links looked like it was tossed in the microwave at most a 3.5/10 on all the meats I tried. Sides: Mac and the beans at most a 2/10, total waste of $$. I love me some BBQ and I'm always on the lookout for a good places closer to home, but this place wasn't it. The flavors are bold, smoky, rich, and ridiculously satisfying without feeling overly heavy or greasy. The meats are consistently tender, juicy, and full of that real wood-smoked flavor that good BBQ is supposed to have. Their smoking process really comes through in the taste :P And when they're on, the ribs are that perfect fall off the bone goodness that makes you stop talking for a second just to appreciate what's happening! What I really appreciate is that the meat usually isn't too fatty. You still get all the flavor and richness, but it feels balanced instead of overwhelming. Ordered pick up and got the brisket philly, the hot link sandwich, and St. Louis ribs. The brisket phiilly was SO yummy. The brisket was very tender and they give a generous amount of meat. Add in some cheese and grilled onions, absolutely fire. There's a little sweetness in the sandwich as well which I think is coming from a homemade jam. My husband's hot link sandwich was good too. Though I think it was literally just hot links and bread, no other sandwich fillers. But i enjoyed the flavor of the hot links and felt they have the perfect t amount of spiciness. The ribs were okay. Some pieces more tender than others. Probably my least favorite of the 3 things we tried. They packed up 2 bbq sauces, one original and one spicy. One time was to catch a friend's band play on the back patio, which is set up nicely for that purpose. More recently we popped in for lunch before seeing a matinee at the Campbell theater, only a 2-minute walk away. We were greeted quickly and warmly, placed our order, and took our number to our table on the patio. Our food was brought out promptly. Wow! I came here for the first time last night to meet up with friends for a double date and had seriously so much fun. Upon our arrival, Josh greeted my husband and I at the door. Since it was our first time there, he explained where everything was and we felt immediately at home. We were quick to notice their amazing beer selection not to mention all the items at the menu. This is one of my favorite spots to go for lunch. But sometimes you need to tell the good and the bad. Been here twice in the last month .So i thought the first time was a flook. Definitely a 3.5. The BBQ was good but not memorable. If I were in the area I'd definitely eat here again, but if someone was asking me for a recommendation for barbecue places I wouldn't necessarily send them here. The ribs were wonderfully seasoned but a little dry, definitely needed to use BBQ sauce. The brisket was delicious. Mac and cheese was ok. This restaurant gets a solid 4 stars. On the night we went (a Thursday), it was crowded, with live music and a great vibe. The food was quite good. My son and I shared (meaning I ate about 6 chips and he ate the rest) an order of brisket nachos. Great flavor, the chips were just the right level of crunchiness, there was an abundance of toppings, and a good amount of brisket. I had the Jerk wings which were quite good. My son had a plate with brisket and St. Louis ribs, both of which were excellent. We shared 3 sides: the baked beans, which were good, if a little sweet, the Mac and Cheese, also quite good, and, my favorite, the coleslaw. Why was it my favorite? Because it's vinegar-based! Not a drop of detestable mayonnaise. Basically, I ate almost all of the slaw, my son at almost all of the Mac and Cheese, and most of the beans. Portions are generous, and we took food home. The menu has all the foods one would expect in a barbecue restaurant. There are salads, things that non-meat eaters can eat, and a really nice beer and wine list. The service was stellar. Friendly, informed, and just the right level of attention. They have a beef rib on (I think) Sundays, and smoked prime rib also on the weekend (possibly Friday too). Tonight my brother and I decided to check out Slow Hand BBQ in Martinez. We kicked things off with the Brisket Nachos and Jalapeño Poppers. The nachos were surprisingly good -- and that's saying something since I'm not usually a nacho guy lol. The poppers, though, were a bit of a letdown -- soggy and seemed like they'd been made a few hours earlier. Still, even soggy bacon is better than no bacon, right? For dinner, I went with the Two-Meat Plate featuring St. Louis Ribs and Brisket, with coleslaw and sweet potato tots on the side. The sides just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The ribs were decent, but the brisket was the real standout -- tender, smoky, and full of flavor. My buddy had the St. Louis Ribs and Tri-Tip; he really enjoyed the ribs but wasn't impressed with the tri-tip. Service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was cool -- laid-back and perfect for a casual night out. They also have a solid beer selection, which definitely adds to the experience. Overall, Slow Hand BBQ has some bright spots (especially the brisket and service), but a few items could use a little more love to make it a home run. I just happened to be downtown here in Martinez running errands when that delicious smell of BBQ hit my nose and I just had to know where it was coming from.. ended up being here at Slow Hand. And boy am I glad I came, walked in and was welcomed by a very cool dude named Josh. Ended up getting the Pit Burger and I didn't even get a chance to take a picture because I inhaled it, was so DAMN GOOD! That's where the positives stopped. The food this time was really bad. We got the two and two combo with brisket and chopped pork with mac and cheese and bbq beans. The meat was really dry, the mac and cheese was so bland and watery and the beans were so sweet they were inedible. I was so excited to come back, but the food just wasn't good. Both the brisket and Tri-Tip were overcooked and dry, with very little smoke flavor/no smoke ring. Thought it was a fluke but all the yelp photos look the same, overcooked, dry and grey. And from the moment we walked in, the gentleman (we assumed he was the owner) was very welcoming and invited us in. He gave us a rundown of their offerings and gave us the feeling of being guests in his home. That is always a huge plus! The food itself exceeded our expectations. We ordered a variety of items from appetizers, to sandwiches and plates. Everybody enjoyed their meals and we left there feeling stuffed. The portions are generous and can be good for sharing depending on how hungry you are. The nachos comes in an individual order, or a sheet, but both sizes are good to share.
